Chapter 512 Gift Bagged
"
Scarlett felt that something was up with Jax. There was just something about the way he was looking at her. He had put the bag next to her in the booth and was watching her expectantly. No matter what was in that bag, she was going to love it whether she liked it or not.
She wasn't sure if it was the haircut or the idea of spending an intimate weekend with him, but he looked even more handsome than usual. His blonde hair was slicked back and he seemed like this young blonde god—a young blonde god that was all hers.
The gift bag looked inviting with its beautiful drawings of wild flowers. She began searching through the scrunched up bright blue tissue paper. It didn't take her long to find the gift. It was too big to miss. There it was in all its glory—a small kitchen sized red fire extinguisher.
She didn't lift it out of the bag because it might be too heavy for her and she didn't want to strain her back.
Jax was definitely up to something. She wasn't sure what his intentions were, but he was looking pleased with himself. His lips were quirked up in a smile.
"I was hoping for a SAMCRO T-shirt to sleep in," Scarlett said brightly, "but this is nice too." He was definitely trying to play her and she was going to play along and see where this was going.
Jax chuckled looking so damned pleased with himself.
"It has a practical purpose," he said.
"Let me see if I can figure it out," Scarlett said pretending to think by looking at the space above Jax's head, "it can be used for putting out fires and since you got a nice small one, I can use it for self-defense when I'm a little stronger. Thank you," she said, smiling sweetly. "It's perfect it. I love it."
Scarlett noticed that Jax's eyes always took on this shade of intense blowtorch blue when he was up to something. They were this color now. She wondered what was really going on and why she hadn't figured it out by now.
"It's to put out fires, but a very special type of fire." Jax said watching her intently.
"A kitchen grease fire because you aren't supposed to put water on them," Scarlett said.
Scarlett could hardly wait for the pay off because there had to be more to this fire extinguisher present unless he really did think this was a good present. Some men gave women really bad gifts. Maybe she'd overestimated him and he really wasn't up to something and she was misreading the look in his eyes. Maybe he was just really looking forward to this weekend and sex.
"Remember when we first started seeing each other? You used to always tell me you were defective."
Scarlett's face flushed under the intensity of his gaze. She remembered those days. She never expected to feel that intense physical desire that romance novel heroines experienced and then she met Jax. Somehow, he'd gotten under her skin and brought her to life when she hadn't even known she was dead. She'd really believed she was defective.
She nodded her head, her eyes locked on Jax's face.
"That night in your motel, I promised myself that one day I was going to make you burn for me."
Scarlett's heart pounded in her chest. She also discovered a heartbeat was pounding in a place she knew she didn't have a heart.
"Uh-huh," she whispered.
"I'm going to make you burn for me today. I don't want any accidents in case it gets out of hand and you accidentally burst into flames," Jax said gravely, his lips fighting to keep from tilting up into a smile.
He was looking at her and she could feel the sexual tension between them sizzle. He hadn't touched her yet she was already feeling the heat.
"Feel confident about that burning for you thing, do you?" she asked, her voice unsteady.
"I do," he said.
There was something seductive about Jax's sexual confidence. It wasn't all just talk either. The man could kiss her into a coma of bliss. If sex was half as good as he promised, she might die from pleasure. It would be worth every second though.
"Confident?"
"I'm Jax Teller. Wouldn't you think?" Jax asked grinning.
She had to give it to him; his confidence did have some justification. . Wherever he went, she saw the hungry way women looked at him. Every time the waitress came to their table, she had that look in her eyes. There was no doubt in Scarlett's mind that the waitress would hook up with Jax if he gave her the slightest encouragement, but he didn't. He was friendly and polite not even a little flirtatious. It made her feel good to be with a man other women wanted.
"How about splitting some deep fried ice cream?" Jax suggested. "You look like you could use some cooling off."
"Glad you thought about getting the fire extinguisher."
"Just trying to take care of the woman I love."

Author's Note: I've been writing this story and Taming Ava more slowly than usual because I've got a new stealth story that I've been working on and just recently finished. It's called Fighting Destiny under the name AlwaysWrite2Much.
It's a dark take on Jax/Tara and it opens with Tara in the bottom of a pool, her feet tied to concrete blocks. The story reveals what happened that put her there. I know a lot of readers won't read Jax/Tara stories because they don't like Tara, but it's a good story more of a suspense story than a Jax/Tara love story.
When I get the idea for a story, I know the beginning, middle and the end. This story came to me complete. I knew not only the beginning, middle and end, I knew all the chapters in between so I knew I had to write it while the idea was so fresh in my head.
I hope you'll give it a try even if you do hate Tara. She's less annoying when I write her than she was on the show.
