Try as she might, the small dragon couldn't seem to make anything happen with her squeaking. A few chirps and squeaks echoed around the gigantic walls as if taunting her amidst the scary situation, her eyes darting around for any possible way Mother could be coming from...
Looking up, her thin yet surprisingly elastic tail swirled around her form, still firmly sitting down. The light above shone arduously, causing the entrance of warmth in the hole which seemed to soothe Small One to some degree. The light had seemingly descended upon her small frame, forcing Small One to avert her eyes as it became especially hard to look up, but all the while quite relaxing to sit still. Her wings felt warm, her back especially so, and the ground around her began lighting up slowly but surely.
The relaxing feeling quickly spread through her body as she closed her eyes, and a purr escaped her chops. The pressing feeling that had been creeping up at her core subsided for now.
It felt good... For a while, anyway.
Not taking too long to escape the trance of the jovial light, Small One would open her eyes back to the reality that she was in, moving over to a more shadowy part of the ground to continue her looking up. It didn't exactly help that the light shone so brightly but it was manageable now, unlike the time she stood in it, which was curious to the small hatching, not that it was more important than the matter at hand.
Chirp!
Chirp!
She continued on in a nigh desperate attempt at making Mother show up.
Before she knew it, the creeping feeling made itself known to her core again, which halted what would've been a third chirp.
Though harsh on her midsection, it was unmistakable, even at such an early age. A feeling any being is made aware of from almost the very first breath they take.
Hunger.
Chirp!!!
This one was much louder, and this time seemed to do the trick to some degree.. at sending a small patch of rocks down toward her.
Small One, though at first unaware of the consequences of her chirping, as she was doing so whilst having her eyes closed, quickly jumped up as if she was given springs for legs once three small rocks fell from the light above.
Small One landed on the ground a few inches ahead, her wings jumbled up slightly as her tail was making roundabouts around her nubby crest, hanging.
Quickly getting up from the uncomfortable position, Small One looked at where she previously stood to see the fallen rocks, which could only be described as pebbles from a human's perspective.
Lowering her head slightly, she sniffed, taking in the smell of the small formations before her.
Chomp.
And thus, the first ever meal had been acquired.
Or it would've, were it not for the said rock being as dusty as it was, quickly prompting Small One to cough it back up. Her body shook for the slightest bit due to the roughness of it.
She definitely wasn't eating that again.
Small One's midsection then proceeded to make itself known to the world, quickly startling her yet again, only this time, she frantically looked at her belly with a perplexed expression. It took her a moment or two to realise it was the pressing feeling she had felt for a bit now.
Chir-
Her following chirp was once again cut short as something was yet again falling from above.
A bit braver this time, Small One looked up..only to hear a more louder screech coming from the falling thing, which quickly sent her into a panic, making her back up to the wall until-
Thud.
The sound was harsh and excruciatingly loud considering the environment, yet the thing which fell did not make any more noises after that.
Small One would look at the fallen thing. Much bigger than the rocks, and only bigger than herself by a negligible margin
Nostrils flared slightly.
It smelled good.
Slowly but surely, she stepped toward the aparrent carcass. Green fur lined the top of its body as it lay motionless on the previously warm ground. A light color would divide the top part of its body from the lower, which had four long limbs lay contorted in differing ways. The head was mostly fine, though the horns, albeit small, did seem somewhat damaged from the fall.
A low rumbled could be heard from above as a shadow briefly looked down from the top of the hole, though Small One only caught a glimpse as it turned away.
She could only guess that it was Mother, dropping food. Though unsure of why Mother didn't come down herself, Small One's stomach drove her toward the belly of the dead herbivore.
Chomp.
A weird, puffy taste entered her mouth, accompanied by the strong taste of blood, which she instinctively found as delicious.
Instinct followed after, the small dragon eating at her heart's content.
In about an hour, she had chewed through most of the carcass, her previously white head now having quite a red tint to the snout.
A now satisfied dragon sat on her back, the light that was once touching the ground gone and replaced with a somewhat mesmerising darkness. Her wings splayed out to her either side, Small One purred in content. Her belly full, she could only sleepily watch the darkening above, small, white dots becoming visible within it.
Small One looked at them with curiosity, but she could only care so much right now as an overcoming feeling of comfort made itself known, her small chops parting in a quick yawn.
Her eyes slowly closed after that, losing herself in the calming darkness above..
Briefly illuminated by a red streak, Small One blinked slightly awake. Gone as quick as it appeared, she wasn't sure what happened above, but it was clear that there were more important things right now...
She fell asleep like the pebbles did from above.
Woe, 2nd chapter be upon ye.
Turns out I had one more in me for the time being. Enjoy whatever I wrote here for Small One. She has a long way to go.
