Chapter 2: the team officially formed
At Metropolis High, Jake, Izuku, and Diana were sitting in the principal's office.
"So, you two are transfer students from Japan?" he asked.
"And you are from Greece?" he asked Diana.
"Uh, yes sir," they nodded.
The principal nodded, glancing at their records. "Well, Metropolis High is a diverse school, and we welcome students from all over the world. What brought you here?"
Jake spoke first, "We heard about the unique opportunities and programs here. Plus, it seemed like a great place to further our education."
Izuku added, "And we've always wanted to experience life in the United States. It's a great way to learn and grow."
Diana nodded, "I came here to broaden my horizons and learn from different cultures."
The principal smiled, "That's wonderful to hear. We hope you all find what you're looking for here. If you have any questions or need any help, my door is always open."
"Thank you, sir," they replied in unison.
Jake and Izuku walked out and compared their schedules when Kwasi and Ravage popped out.
"How did you come up with that lie about being transfer students?" Kwasi asked.
"I don't know, dude, I just went with the flow," Jake said.
"You think they have cheese?" Ravage asked.
"I don't know, Ravage. You two just stay low, alright?" Izuku said as Ravage went back inside his pocket and Kwasi flew back inside Jake's.
"Wait, where's Diana?" Jake asked.
"I'm not sure," Izuku replied.
"Come on, let's go find her," Izuku said as the two searched for their friend.
They hurried down the hallway, scanning the bustling corridors of Metropolis High for any sign of Diana.
"I hope she didn't wander off too far," Jake muttered, checking each classroom they passed.
"I'm sure she's around here somewhere," Izuku reassured him, his eyes darting from side to side.
Suddenly, they spotted Diana chatting with a group of students near the school entrance.
"There she is!" Jake exclaimed, waving her over.
Diana noticed them and excused herself from the group, jogging over to where Jake and Izuku stood.
"Hey, guys! Sorry, I got caught up talking to some new classmates," Diana explained.
"No worries. We were just worried you'd disappeared on us," Izuku said with a smile.
"Yeah, we were about to send out a search party," Jake joked, earning a chuckle from Diana.
As they walked together towards their next class, Diana filled them in on her conversation with the other students, and they continued to compare their schedules for the day.
"Looks like we have English next," Izuku remarked, glancing at his timetable.
"Same here. Let's head over before we're late," Jake suggested, leading the way down the hallway.
With Diana back by their side, the three friends made their way to class, ready to face whatever challenges Metropolis High had in store for them..
Making it through the second half of the day, Jake, Izuku, and Diana sat in the cafeteria, trying to figure out how they were going to survive here.
Little did they know, Barbara Gordon was eyeing them along with four other girls. One had long brown hair and was dressed in green, another was a short girl with puffy brown hair in a bee-patterned outfit, the third was a muscular girl with short blonde hair, and the last was a girl with long purple hair. These were Jessica Cruz, Karen Beecher, Kara Danvers, and Zee Zatara.
As Kara laughed, a chunk of spaghetti flew out and hit her in the face. Growling, she looked around to see Karen eating spaghetti with a smile on her face. Angered, Kara grabbed her burger and threw it, hitting Karen in the back of the head.
Karen turned around just in time to see Kara about to throw another burger when Jessica grabbed a tray and whacked the burger away.
"Leave her alone, you big bully!" Jessica said.
"My hair!" Zee exclaimed in shock as the burger hit her instead. "My hair!"
Grabbing a carton of milk, Zee threw it at Jessica, who dodged it, resulting in the milk soaking Jake and Izuku.
"Hey!" they both exclaimed, standing up.
"No one hurts my friends," Diana said, getting up and preparing to throw some of her food.
"Don't do it," Jake said, intervening before Diana could act.
"Guys, you should duck," Izuku warned suddenly.
"Why?" Jake asked.
"Yeah, why? I don't see any ducks," Diana remarked.
"Okay, because of that," Izuku pointed out.
"Food fight!" Barbara declared, and soon the entire cafeteria joined in, with food being thrown everywhere until a teacher walked in and saw the chaos.
The cafeteria erupted into chaos as food continued to fly everywhere. Pizza slices sailed through the air, mashed potatoes splattered against walls, and pudding cups landed on unsuspecting students.
Jake, Izuku, Diana, and the rest found themselves caught in the middle of the madness. Karen retaliated by launching a tray of spaghetti across the room, narrowly missing Barbara who ducked just in time.
"Take cover!" Izuku shouted, grabbing Diana's arm and pulling her behind a nearby table.
Diana glanced around, spotting Kara and Jessica engaged in a fierce food duel, while Zee attempted to shield herself from incoming projectiles with a lunch tray.
"This escalated quickly," Diana remarked, dodging a flying meatball.
"Tell me about it," Jake replied, narrowly avoiding a stream of orange juice.
Just as the chaos seemed to reach its peak, the cafeteria doors burst open, and a stern-looking teacher marched in, her expression a mix of shock and disapproval.
"What is going on here?!" she exclaimed, trying to be heard over the commotion.
The food fight gradually died down as students noticed the teacher's arrival. Barbara sheepishly stepped forward, trying to contain her laughter.
"Um, it was... uh..." Barbara started to explain, but before she could finish, the teacher's gaze fell on the messy cafeteria and the guilty faces of the students involved.
"Everyone, clean this up immediately!" the teacher commanded sternly. "And you," she said, pointing at Barbara, "Principal's office. Now."
As students began reluctantly picking up bits of food and wiping down tables, the teacher ushered Barbara out of the cafeteria, leaving behind a scene of food-splattered chaos and bewildered students.
"Well, that was unexpected," Izuku remarked, helping to gather up trays and napkins.
Diana nodded, suppressing a laugh. "I guess we've learned not to underestimate lunchtime at Metropolis High."
Jake chuckled, shaking his head. "Definitely not your average school day."
They worked together with the other students to clean up the mess, sharing amused glances and relieved smiles, grateful that the food fight had come to an end without any serious consequences.
"After the food was picked up, the teacher walked back in with a stern expression on his face.
"I just looked at the security cameras and I saw that you seven were also part of it," he said, pointing at Jake, Izuku, Kara, Diana, Karen, Jessica, and Zatanna. "You seven are coming with me to the principal's office."
The group of seven students walked in silence down the hallway, led by the stern teacher, towards the principal's office. Jake and Izuku exchanged puzzled glances when they noticed Zatanna among them.
"Isn't she the one who helped us out with Bunny Moth back in our world, from the future, during the Time Protector battle?" Jake whispered to Izuku.
"Yeah, she is," Izuku replied quietly. "But it seems like she doesn't know us here."
Zatanna walked alongside Karen, her expression unreadable as they entered the principal's office. Principal Westwood looked up from his desk, his face a mix of concern and disappointment.
"Please have a seat," Principal Westwood said, gesturing to chairs arranged in front of his desk. The students complied, sitting down with uneasy expressions.
"I've just reviewed the security footage," Principal Westwood continued, folding his hands on his desk. "It's clear that a food fight broke out in the cafeteria, and you seven were prominently involved."
Kara started to speak up, "Principal Westwood, I-"
He held up a hand, cutting her off. "I understand that lunch periods can be chaotic, but this kind of behavior is unacceptable. It disrupts the learning environment and creates a mess that others have to clean up."
The students exchanged guilty looks, realizing the gravity of their actions. Jessica nervously shifted in her seat, while Diana looked down at her hands, clearly regretting her part in the food fight.
"Each of you will have detention after school today," Principal Westwood announced firmly. "And I'll be contacting your parents to discuss what happened."
There was a moment of tense silence before the principal sighed, his expression softening slightly. "I know you're all new here, and I hope this serves as a learning experience. Metropolis High has rules, and we expect all students to follow them."
The students nodded silently, understanding the consequences of their actions. Principal Westwood dismissed them with a stern reminder to behave better in the future, and they filed out of his office, subdued and thoughtful.
Outside, Jake and Izuku exchanged another glance, both still processing the unexpected encounter with Zatanna and the consequences of the lunchtime chaos. They knew that their time at Metropolis High was off to a rocky start, but they were determined to make amends and prove themselves as responsible students in their new school.
After school, they were all brought to detention.
"Detention on the first day of school, this is definitely the worst day ever. I really miss UA," Izuku said.
"Yeah, I know. We didn't even get detention in Mr. Aizawa's class. At least he didn't act like we're going to get expelled on the first day," Jake said.
"Jake, Izuku, why are we in this room?" Diana asked.
"Is this just detention? This is where people go who honestly didn't do anything," Jake yelled, annoyed.
"Detention on the first day of school," Mr. Chapin said as they all took their seats.
"I hope you all have good attorneys," Zatanna said.
"Why? You gonna sue because I have better aim than you do?" Kara asked.
"I knew it was you who threw those potatoes!" Zatanna pointed.
"Now let's not start fighting again," Jessica said.
"For the record, if I offended anyone, I'm very sorry," Karen said.
"I'm going to go see why my friends and I are in here," Diana said before walking out the door.
"And there she goes," Jake said, when the door opened to reveal the teacher and a police officer not five minutes later.
"Wow, that was fast," Izuku said.
"Cutting class on the first day of school. Get in while I find out which homeroom you're in," Mr. Chapin said as Diana walked back in.
"I'm sorry, guys, this world of men is so complicated," Diana said.
"It's fine, we just have to wait," Jake said.
"Yeah, it's going to be fine," Izuku said as Barbara walked over to Diana.
"You're that Wonder Woman, right? The one who was fighting that giant monster with those two heroes yesterday?" she asked.
"Please, that's no Wonder Woman, it's just some cosplay girl," Kara scoffed.
"I am no girl. I am Diana, Princess of the Amazons. I alone survived the 21 tests of the Tournament of Athena and Aphrodite. I am no girl, but a woman," Diana declared.
"Trust me, princess, you do not want to start with me," Kara smirked.
"Is that a challenge?" Diana asked as Kara stood up.
"For you," Kara said.
"Stop!" Izuku said, getting Kara's attention. "Do not mess with Diana, it's a bad idea."
"Please, messing with me is the bad idea," Kara smirked.
"Very well, then I will let you have the first hit," Diana said.
Grinning, Kara threw a punch, but Diana dodged with ease before kicking Kara in the stomach.
"Don't say she didn't warn you," Jake gulped.
Growling, Kara continued her attacks, but Diana dodged them all. "Why won't you stay still?!" Enraged, Kara punched Diana, sending her smashing through a hole in the wall, surprising everyone.
"What the hell was that noise, Jake?" Kwasi asked, flying out of his pocket.
"Yeah, I'm trying to get some sleep here," Ravage added, flying out of Izuku's pocket as well.
Barbara gasped when she noticed the kwamis.
"Um, meow," Kwasi and Ravage said simultaneously, hoping they could fool her.
Meanwhile, Diana and Kara fought, wreaking havoc in the entire classroom. Suddenly, a giant green mattress spring appeared, pushing them apart.
"Both of you, stop!" Jessica commanded, green energy emanating from a ring on her hand. "Fighting is never the answer!"
"Yes, the answer is running away!" Karen exclaimed, putting on a high-tech suit that caused her to shrink down to the size of a bee. She attempted to escape but kept banging into the window.
"Hey, um, Izuku, you should do something," Jake suggested.
"Okay," Izuku agreed, activating Full Cowling as green electricity surrounded his body. He jumped up, propelled off the wall, and landed between Diana and Kara, catching both of their punches and surprising them.
Izuku stood firm between Diana and Kara, his Full Cowling enhancing his reflexes and strength. Diana and Kara both paused, taken aback by Izuku's sudden intervention.
"Izuku, what are you doing?" Diana asked, her fists still clenched.
"I'm stopping this fight," Izuku replied calmly, his eyes focused on both girls. "We shouldn't be fighting each other."
Kara scowled, folding her arms. "She started it," she muttered, nodding towards Diana.
Diana bristled, ready to retort, but Izuku held up a hand. "It doesn't matter who started it. We need to calm down and talk this out."
Jessica stepped forward, her green energy dissipating as she approached. "He's right. Fighting won't solve anything."
Karen, still struggling with her bee-sized suit, finally managed to deactivate it and return to her normal size. "Yeah, let's not destroy the school further," she said, glancing at the mess around them.
Barbara, still bewildered by Kwasi and Ravage's appearance, finally spoke up. "Um, what are those?" she asked, pointing at the kwamis.
Kwasi and Ravage exchanged nervous glances before Kwasi spoke up. "Oh, uh, we're just... um, mascots! Yeah, school mascots!" he said with an awkward grin.
Ravage nodded vigorously. "Yep, just mascots. Meow!"
Barbara looked skeptical but decided not to press further for now. "Okay... well, maybe we should all take a breather and figure out how to clean up this mess," she suggested, trying to diffuse the tension.
Teacher's coming." Zatanna said
Almost immediately all of them scrambled to try and make the room look the way it was before they left. Even kwasi and ravage flew around trying to help. Rolling her eyes Zatanna took out a wand and recited a spell.
When Mr. Chapin opened the door, the classroom was cleaned up and they all were sitting in their seats.
"Everything alright in here?" Mr. Chapin asks.
"Yes, Mr. Chapin." Zatanna said acting like nothing happened.
"Alright, forgot my keys." He said taking his keys off a hook and walking out.
"The second he closed the door, Barbara popped out of her chair.
"Aha! I knew you were all super! I knew it when I saw you dent that car door because no ordinary person could do that. Then I saw you with all those gadgets on the bus, and magically, you had your backpack, which I thought was weird. And then you three, when you walked to school, were saying that you missed UA, whatever that place is called. And those aren't mascots," she said, pointing at the two kwamis. "And finally, when you were talking to that cute boy about some corp, I started the food fight so we would all end up in detention together. I didn't count on you showing up, but it was great because you all ended up revealing your powers to me! Batgirl!" Barbara said quickly.
"Uh, did anyone get any of that?" Izuku asked, confused.
"Great, another cosplayer," Kara groaned.
"Huzzah! A sister! I had feared I would have to bring peace to the world of man all by myself, but now I have a sister to help me," Diana said, hugging Barbara .
"Actually, six sisters and two brothers," Barbara said, gesturing to everyone in the room.
"No way. I use my powers and I get in trouble every time," Kara complained.
"Not me. I'm not fighting anyone," Jessica said firmly.
"I don't know, like, we just came to the city and stuff," Izuku said, uncertainly.
"Plus, we just helped out with that monster that one time. Yeah, it was fun and stuff. Maybe, I don't know," Jake added.
"I'm an artist, not a police officer," Zatanna stated.
"I'm not really that good at it," Karen said nervously.
"Cowards! I speak of destiny! The mantle of the gods I thought was passed down to me has been passed down to you as well," Diana proclaimed.
"Come on, guys, don't you want to be heroes with secret identities and stuff?" Barbara asked.
"Uh, the thing with secret identities is, for them to be secret, one must pass as a normal girl," Zatanna pointed out.
"Alright, tell you what. You guys give being a team a try, she'll teach us about being heroes, you give her a makeover. Deal?" Barbara proposed.
"Who am I to say no to a makeover?" Zatanna replied.
"Okay," Karen agreed.
"I'll try too, but only to support Karen's brave decisions," Jessica added, as they all looked to Kara, who had yet to respond.
"Ugh, fine," Kara groaned in defeat.
"Jake, Izuku, what about you two?" Diana asked.
"Fine. Well, the Watcher did say we have to find a team, right?" Jake said.
"And this is the perfect team," Izuku added confidently.
First stop for Diana was the mall to find herself a new wardrobe.
"By the white beard of Zeus, what is this place?" Diana asked.
"Normal teenage lesson number one: Don't say stuff like that. Lesson number two: You gotta look the part—big pictures, big letters, be bold," Barbara said, handing her a big sweater.
"Leather, lots of leather," Kara added, handing her some clothes.
"Lesson number three: Your phone is your life," Barbara continued, showing all the stuff she could do on the phone, which ended up confusing Diana.
"Here, try these. These clothes are made from organic material," Jessica said, while Karen held up another big sweater.
"Dress to not draw attention to yourself, but not too much, or you risk drawing attention to yourself," Karen advised.
"Now get in there and be normal," Barbara said, pushing Diana into the changing room. However, when Diana came out, she was wearing every piece of clothing the girls had given her.
"Alright, I can't take any more. I'm stepping in," Jake said, walking around the store and grabbing a few different clothes before returning to Diana. "Here, take those off and just put these on."
Closing the curtain, Diana stepped out wearing a red sweater over a white shirt and a blue skirt.
Everyone looked at Jake, surprised.
"When did you learn to pick out girl clothes?" Izuku asked Jake.
"Me and Fang did it for Eri when she first came to live with us," Jake explained.
Everyone, meet Diana Prince," Jake announced proudly.
"And these clothes give me the appearance of a normal teenage adolescent?" Diana asked, looking down at herself as they all nodded in agreement. "Good, now it is my turn
At the top of a building, they all stood in a line.
"If we are to be a team, I need to know your abilities. You, name, rank, skill," Wonder Woman said, turning to Jessica first.
"Oh, uh, hi. I'm Jess. I'm a cadet in something called the Green Lantern Corps, and I was given this power ring by these weird aliens. They're sorta like space cops... you know, the whole thing is really complicated. I can make stuff with this ring," Jessica explained as her ring glowed, creating a flower pot.
"That is so cool. Do a pogo stick," Barbara exclaimed, and Jessica promptly created one. "And a burrito."
"With this ring of the gods, you may create any weapon imaginable to beat down your enemies?" Wonder Woman asked.
"Well, yes, but I don't believe in violence," Jessica replied.
"Admirable. What shall you be called?" Wonder Woman inquired, watching as Jessica's ring glowed and changed her outfit to a green and black costume.
"Green Lantern. Kinda comes with the ring," Jessica said.
"And you, Batgirl?" Diana asked, moving down the line.
"I can do all sorts of stuff. Though I don't have magic or alien powers, I invent all sorts of things," Barbara replied, changing into her costume and telling them some random story.
"You lack focus. Next," Diana said, turning to Jake and Izuku.
"Hi, my name is Jake Evans Ookami, and this is Kwasi, my kwami," Jake introduced.
"And I'm Izuku Midoriya, and this is Ravage, my kwami," Izuku added.
"What are your powers?" Wonder Woman asked.
"You already know ours, actually," Jake said.
"Yeah, but I don't think the rest of them know," Izuku said with a smirk.
"Just say the word, Izuku," Ravage chimed in.
"Yeah, let's show them what we can do," Kwasi said eagerly.
"Kwasi, spots on!" Jake commanded as his wristband glowed, transforming him into Beetle.
"Ravage, claws out!" Izuku commanded as his ring glowed, transforming him into Shadow Claw.
"These are Miraculous. They help us transform into heroes. As the guardian of the Miraculous, I'm allowed to give anyone or take Miraculous from people," Beetle explained.
"And my other power is called One for All. It's a power that's been passed down for many generations. Now I have it," Shadow Claw added proudly.
Wonder Woman observed Jake and Izuku's transformations with keen interest, her expression thoughtful yet intrigued. The others in the group watched in awe and curiosity as Beetle and Shadow Claw showcased their abilities.
"Miraculous transformations... and a power passed down through generations," Wonder Woman mused, nodding approvingly. "Impressive."
Barbara grinned widely. "So cool! You guys are like a real-life superhero duo."
Jessica nodded, impressed. "It's amazing how diverse our abilities are. From alien technology to magical rings and ancient powers."
Kara looked intrigued. "So, you guys fight villains with these powers?"
Jake nodded. "Yeah, we use them to protect our world from threats. Kwasi and Ravage help us a lot in our battles."
Izuku added, "And One for All is a powerful quirk that enhances physical abilities. It's been passed down to me to fight against evil."
Diana's gaze was focused as she processed the information. "You all possess unique strengths. This could be an advantage for our team."
"Absolutely," Barbara agreed enthusiastically. "We each bring something different to the table. Together, we could be unstoppable."
Jessica looked around at the group, a sense of unity growing among them. "It's clear we all have a sense of duty to protect others. Maybe forming a team isn't such a bad idea after all."
Diana nodded, her resolve firm. "We must work together, learn from each other, and trust in our abilities. Metropolis will need heroes like us."
"And what are your, as you say, hero names?" Diana asked.
"Just call me Beetle," Jake said.
"And I'm Shadow Claw," Izuku added.
"And you?" Diana said, turning to Zatanna.
"You can call me the mysterious, the fabulous, and awe-inspiring Zatanna," she said, changing her clothes to a magician's costume complete with a hat.
"Impressive. Have you any other talents?" Wonder Woman asked.
"I can turn a red heart black. Ever seen a jumping jack? Look behind your ear," Zatanna said, as Wonder Woman looked and revealed a card hidden behind her ear.
"What sorcery is this?" Wonder Woman asked, as Zatanna pulled multiple scarves out of her hat. "I've seen enough. Though you possess many skills, you must learn to channel them into a cause, our cause. And this outfit will not do, think of another," Wonder Woman said, causing Zatanna to growl.
"Try a cape," Batgirl suggested.
"What can you do?" Wonder Woman asked, as Karen was putting on her high-tech suit.
"Uh, well, I..." Karen pressed a button and shrank down to the size of a bee. "Ugh, the wings aren't supposed to buzz like that. I'm working on rocket launchers, but the whole thing's messed up," Karen said as she landed on Wonder Woman's finger. "I wanted to be big and strong so people would notice me, but instead I'm even smaller than before. I should just go home."
"You possess far more strength than you realize. You simply lack confidence, little Bumblebee," Wonder Woman said.
"I actually prefer The Indestructible Gamma Phased—"
"Stick with Bumblebee, it's easier to say," Shadow Claw interrupted as she turned back to normal.
"Agreed," Batgirl said.
"Way better," Beetle nodded as Wonder Woman walked up to Kara.
"I've seen your incredible strength. Is there anything more you can do?" Wonder Woman asked.
"Not to you. I'm no hero, Princess. That's for chumps," Kara scoffed.
"You could be the greatest hero the world of man has ever known. You simply lack motivation!" Wonder Woman said, grabbing Batgirl and throwing her into the air, shocking everyone.
Acting quickly, Kara took off her jacket to reveal a blue costume with an S on it and flew after her.
"Are you insane?!" Shadow Claw asked.
"Why did you throw her like that?" Beetle asked.
Diving in, Kara caught Batgirl before she hit the ground, surprising everyone.
"Alright, fine. I am a Super. I call myself Supergirl," she admitted, as they all smiled, seeing their team coming together.
With Kara's admission, the group exchanged excited glances, realizing their team was taking shape.
"Impressive catch, Supergirl," Wonder Woman remarked with a nod of approval.
"Thanks. I guess I'm in," Kara said, slightly out of breath from the quick save.
"We're all in this together now," Barbara declared, her eyes gleaming with excitement. "But we need a name. A team name."
"How about 'The Elemental League'?" Jessica suggested tentatively.
"Hmm, it's okay, but I think we can do better," Jake remarked, thoughtful.
"What about 'Fusion Force'?" Izuku proposed. "Because we all bring different powers together as one."
"Fusion Force... I like the sound of that," Karen said, adjusting her high-tech suit.
"Or maybe 'Unity Syndicate'?" Zatanna suggested with a flourish.
"Too formal," Kara chuckled. "How about 'Mystic Vanguard'? It's got a mystical ring to it."
"Mystic Vanguard... I like it," Wonder Woman nodded thoughtfully. "It reflects our diverse abilities and our commitment to protect Metropolis."
"How about 'Miraculous League'?" Beetle suggested suddenly. "We're a unique team with extraordinary abilities and a sense of justice."
"Miraculous League," Barbara echoed, smiling at the group. "I think we just found our name."
The team nodded in unison, feeling a sense of unity and purpose as they embraced their new identity. With their powers combined and their resolve strong, the Miraculous League was ready to face whatever challenges awaited them in Metropolis..
