Max's first match back is a little more than he'd expected. He just in general hurts all over, the kind of sting he's not been used to in months now. Yeah, rehab and training to get back into the ring had brought on its own specific kind of pain, but wrestling Rush, yeah. It was a rough re-introduction to wrestling. He keeps it to himself, though, tries to look pleased and energetic as he gets off of the elevator and enters the penthouse, whistling cheerfully. "Hey, Piper, my baby girl," he greets the cat as she purrs, wrapping around his ankles.
He's just walked inside, dropping his luggage by the door, when Adam comes out of the living room and stares at him, a murderous look on his face. "Uh, Baybay?" he asks, some of his good mood slipping. "Is something wrong?"
Adam grits his teeth and walks up to him, cradling his face in his hands. "Are you alright?"
"Of course I am," Max says, biting out a strained laugh as he reaches up to curl his fingers around Adam's wrists. "What's going on?"
"Rush last night," Adam says, searching his eyes. "He could've really seriously injured you last night, and on your first match back. Are you sure you're ok?"
"Of course I'm sure," Max says. "I told you last night-"
"You were half asleep," Adam says. "I couldn't just keep you awake to ask you, but now you're here so just... let me fuss. Please."
Max sighs. "Alright. Fuss, then," he says, and to his credit, he stands there patiently while Adam looks his hand over, brushing his fingers over the lightly bruised knuckles. Up Max's arm to his just healed shoulder, easing him out of his jacket to gently manipulate the joint. "Medical said everything's fine, I'm just a little sore and bruised," he says helpfully once Adam makes his way around to Max's back. "Hip is fine, arm is ok. I made sure they did their due diligence checking everything."
Adam hesitates and then wraps his arms around Max from behind, rocking him back and forth. "I was scared," he admits. "Then I got pissed off at Rush." He squeezes Max's side, burying his face into the back of his shoulder. "I'm glad you're ok."
"Me too," Max says, patting Adam's hand. "Sorry I scared you."
"Don't do it again," Adam mumbles.
"I'll try not to," Max says with a small grin, turning around in Adam's arms to kiss him. "Come on, can we go into the living room now? Daddy wants to relax with his best girl and his best guy, what do you think?"
"Yeah, of course," Adam says. "Sorry."
"No apology needed," Max says, tapping Adam gently on the jaw. "Come on, Piper," he calls to the cat as Adam eases his hand down into Max's and they walk into the living room.
