Light, a young man of sixteen, attends his classes and maintains high grades with aspirations to be a police officer like his father. He stands at around five feet seven with medium-length light brown hair and brown eyes. He and the Yagami family all have a way of standing out. Not only is Light an achiever, but his father is chief of the local police.
Life has been very different for Light. His mother cooks almost every night, his sister even helps out. Everything is good. Though, there was also something in his mind, this world is rotting.
With his father always working extra hours and always having another criminal to track, he came to understand that criminals are making the world ill. Almost as if it was merely a virus. He often wished about a way to really change the world.
That changes today, though. With sunny skies and scattered clouds as his center of visual focus, he sees a shadow dart towards a tree in the school's yard. He couldn't keep focus on anything but that shadow until the ending bell.
Within the shinigami realm there lay a barren and blackened world. Death is beyond the way to describe the trees. Few crooked and warped figures sit in a circle playing their games, gambling like usual. There is not much for them to eat or even do and so, they play their games.
A black coated shinigami with pale white skin looks upon the crowd. He exhasperates as he approaches the others. They seem surprised.
"Why don't you come play with us, Ryuk?" One of them asks.
"I really can't." Ryuk replies.
"Oh? and why is that?" Another of the shinigami ask.
"It seems I've dropped my death note." He chuckles.
"Where'd you drop it?" The first one asks.
"The earth realm." Ryuk says, without wasting any time, takes his leave.
Finally I can check out what fell. Light thinks as he goes through the blue steel doors. He walks around for a few minutes and figures it must have landed somewhere else.
FWAP!
Light turns around and looks to see a black book. He looks around but, no one nearby to drop it. With a sigh, Light picks up the book and turns it over.
"Death Note?" Light reads quietly to himself. "What kind of prank is this?" He utters.
Light turns to put the notebook into his backpack. There's no way its real. He kept repeating in his head. Something in his gut was screaming it was the real deal. He wondered if perhaps he was just dreaming.
Light almost misses his turn on the way home. He sighs realizing just how deep in thought he was. Light gets into the train of thought, not really paying full attention to a lot until he gets upstairs and in his bedroom.
Light locks his bedroom door as soon as he enters it. He knew he had privacy now. He pulls the notebook out and opens it for the very first time.
"The human whose name is written in this notebook shall die." Light reads quietly.
