. . . . .
Death trap.
Rin's mind and gut screamed in warning. She pushed the feeling down. She'd pick any other option if she had one, but she didn't. The only one she knew with the prowess to teach her or do what was wanted wasn't in the village. So despite the worry and concern in Lunamon's eyes, when the digimon told her where to find her other option she leaped at the chance.
Of course, she debated. The conflict in her mind kept her up early in the wee hours of the night, leaving her bogged down day after day. Against her better judgment, she came weaponless. They wouldn't appreciate it if she had done anything less.
Lunamon was her only weapon and she was waiting outside. She spent many hours copying the scrolls by hand. She double, no triple checked, that they couldn't be found anywhere else. And she prayed, and hoped that this was enough. Lunamon protested to Rin's own frustration.
"Stay. Here." She finally snapped. "Only follow me if you sense I'm in trouble."
Lunamon seemed to freeze. She nodded, large ears flopping. The curly spiral on top of her head drooped. Her pink eyes dulled ever so slightly. "Okay, Rin." She murmured.
And that was that. She walked down the long hall. Why someone needed an office underground was beyond her, but that's what it was. The hall was dark for a long way, save for lit candles in the distance. The hall brightened as she made her way towards them.
The hall opened up to a large room. Vials labeled in a code she didn't know lined the wall to her right. A setup for something else she wasn't sure of lined the left wall. She saw him. He sat at the table in the middle of the room, pouring what little heart and soul he had over the scrolls on the table. Long, silky straight black hair hid his face. But she knew who it was. And yet, her eyes were drawn to the unsettling decor of the dimly lit room instead.
"Rin Nohara." The man's voice seemed to hiss.
She jumped, and looked at him. Lunamon's warnings tore through her mind, and she debated turning around and running the other way. "Orochimaru."
The man looked at her, and his lips shifted into something like a smile. "Do come in, said the snake to the rabbit."
She took a deep breath, and stepped forward. "You know…" She pushed herself to speak, despite her shaking limbs. She shifted her grip on the scroll she was carrying so she didn't drop it. "Danzo is going to use you and throw you away like a whore will when she realizes your dick can't do what your tongue can."
She looked around the room as she spoke, circling around to the other side of the table he was seated at. She took in his unnaturally gray skin, and his equally unnatural yellow eyes. The only thing familiar was the look he gave her. He was just as bored of life as Kakashi was.
A tense silence filled the room. Orochimaru's killer intent washed over her, testing her. Her breath hitched. She braced herself, swallowed the bile trying to push its way up her throat and pushed her fears into a wide grin. She was not copying these scrolls by hand again.
The nauseating chakra cut off as the man chuckled softly, amused. "Kiri really was your Ame. So afraid of death you went the other way and circled right back around." He leaned forward, hissing. "What can I do for Minato's bitch?"
She placed the scroll on the table and unsealed it. "Get Obito mobile again on my terms, and when Danzo inevitably declares you've outlived your usefulness, Team Seven will not assist Konoha in your capture."
Orochimaru looked at her. "What an adorable attempt. It's been ages since a baby chuunin tried to threaten me."
She gestured to the pile of scrolls on the table. She waited as he picked one up and examined it. His eyes shifted as he read the information. She knew he understood it far better than she currently could. He was probably memorizing the scroll as he read it.
"I do believe you've forgotten that Team Seven includes Minato Namikaze." He didn't look at her as she spoke.
She noticed how he forced the name with such vitriol from his lips. She held in a shiver. Took her time to formulate her response. If he took the scrolls and kicked her butt in return, there wasn't really anything she could do about it. She could only hope Lunamon was fast enough.
"Minato hasn't been a part of Team Seven since the council started dragging him screaming into the position of Hokage." Rin shifted her weight to a leg, with a hand loosely on her hip. "You're on your own with him. Same as us. At least you'll have a sharingan on your side."
He lowered the scroll just enough to look at her over the document. Rin held in a huff of disgust and annoyance. Too many people focused so much on Obito's disabilities, they stopped paying attention to what he could still do. It grinded her gears. Now she just had to hope Orochimaru didn't go around her, kidnap Obito, rip out his eye and run to the bank. But if there was anyone from Konoha besides Tsunade Senju who had the medical progress and even desire to challenge themselves to this task, Orochimaru would be it.
She pushed down the guilt in her stomach. 'I'm sorry, Shizune.'
