I do not own Harry Potter
Chapter Seventeen
Sissy and Aster were inconsolable. Lucius took Sissy to the room that they were staying in as Harry took Aster back to the cottage. Bella and Andy were ready to kill, wanting to go after Albus immediately. Sirius, Severus, and Remus were throwing spells around the kitchen, loud explosions being heard from the other room. Adeline sat at the dining room table, sipping a glass of firewhiskey as everyone moved around her, all up in arms as Kreacher rocked back and forth in a corner, crying silently after Adeline had yelled at him to shut it. Her tears were gone, leaving nothing but rage behind. A rage that was going to consume her if she didn't find a way to calm herself in the next few minutes.
"He called the meeting for a reason other than to inform us that he'd destroyed the horcrux," Adeline whispered to herself, the only one listening to her being Kreacher, his large ears flapping slightly as he stared at her, waiting for an order. "Go find out what else he wanted to tell us."
Kreacher nodded, a look of determination on his face before he popped away. Adeline knew the elf was going to work extra hard to try and prove himself to Adeline again, the threat of clothes scaring him too much. Adeline sipped her firewhiskey again, her glass refilling itself as she waited. Kreacher reappeared a half hour later, the others all in the dueling room as they dueled to calm themselves.
"Dumbledore would like to speak with you," Kreacher told her.
"If I see him right now, I'll kill him," Adeline told Kreacher.
"He asks mistress to hear him out first," Kreacher told her, holding out his hand.
Adeline stood and took Kreacher's hand, appearing in Dumbledore's office as he was pulling his hand out of a potion.
"What the hell?" Adeline asked, staring at his blackened hand.
"The ring had a curse on it," Albus explained. "Severus has made me a few potions to buy me more time but I will be dead by next summer."
Adeline stared at Albus for a moment before a large smile appeared on her face. A loud laugh escaped Adeline and she worked to calm herself down.
"Tell me, is it painful?" she questioned, still smiling.
"Very," he admitted.
"Good," Adeline hissed out.
Albus sighed, staring down at his hand.
"Pansy Parkinson has been given the dark mark. Her father gave her willingly to Tom. He has given her the task of killing me by the end of the year. Severus brought me the information earlier tonight, so I called the meeting to discuss where the other horcrux may be," Albus explained.
"Oh, I'm sure I'll be able to find it just fine," Adeline smirked. "Nothing to worry about."
Albus glared at Adeline but she simply flipped him off before walking out of his office. Adeline reached the seventh floor, finding Helena Ravenclaw floating by the entrance to the Ravenclaw common room.
"Helena," Adeline spoke softly, as if speaking to a child. "May I ask you a few questions?"
"Professor Black," Helena greeted her. "How can I help you?"
"I was wondering if you knew what happened to your mother's diadem," Adeline explained, watching as Helena looked panicked.
"I don't know what you speak of," Helena tried.
"I know that you do," Adeline told her, voice still soft.
"You'll just use it like he did," she said, voice sounding strained.
"Like who did?" Adeline questioned. "Tom Riddle?"
"Yes," Helena responded and Adeline knew she would be crying if she could.
"What if I told you that I want to destroy it?" Adeline asked.
"Destroy it?" Helena asked.
"Yes," Adeline nodded. "What he did to it is unnatural. It needs to be destroyed."
"He hid it."
Helena described a room that only appears when it's needed on the fifth floor and Adeline ran towards the room of requirement. She asked the room to show her where things were hidden three times while pacing in front of it, smirking when a door appeared. Adeline groaned when she stepped inside, staring around at all of the trash and junk that had piled up over the years.
It took Adeline three hours to find the diadem, locking it away in a box before leaving the room and heading to Albus' office. She dropped the box onto his desk, rolling her eyes as she stepped through the floo and appeared in Hathor cottage. The living room was empty, along with her room, so she sent a patronus to Remus and Sirius, telling them that she had returned home for the night. She found Harry and Aster asleep on Aster's bed, Aster curled up against Harry's chest and tear marks traveling down his face. Adeline placed a quilt over them, using her wand to change them into pajamas before checking on Carolyn. She found the baby asleep for the night and thanked Tiffy before going to her own room.
Adeline climbed into her shower, sighing as the hot water hit her skin. Remus and Sirius joined her a few minutes later, all three using one another to help release the stress that they had worked up in their bodies. As they laid naked in bed, she told Sirius and Remus of Albus' hand and Pansy being marked. She told them that she'd found the diadem and had basically thrown it at Albus before returning home.
Remus and Sirius dropped Hermione and the boys off at the station before returning to the cottage and following Adeline through the floo and to their living quarters in Hogwarts. The three sighed as they headed to the staff meeting, Severus already waiting for them. Adeline sat beside him, laying her head on his shoulder and smirked when she saw the completed paperwork for a name change in front of him.
"Took you long enough," she grumbled, picking up the paperwork.
"Yes, yes. I've been a bit busy," Severus smirked.
"Harry will be happy," Adeline sighed, setting the paperwork back down.
"I'm sure," Severus smirked. "He's definitely the only one."
"I may be a little happy about it," she shrugged, giving a smirk when Severus bumped his shoulder up, causing Adeline to sit up straight just as Albus walked into the room.
He avoided Adeline, Remus, Sirius, and Severus as he gave his speech for the year, explaining that Remus and Sirius would be rotating Defense classes to avoid the curse on the Defense position. The other teachers were relieved by the news, giving Remus and Sirius bright smiles before looking to Albus again. Adeline didn't say anything about the glove on Dumbledore's dying hand, knowing it was soaked in a potion to help keep the curse from traveling. Once they were dismissed, Adeline led the men to the living quarters, calling for Tiffy to bring Carolyn.
Adeline smiled as she took Carolyn from the elf, bouncing the baby a bit before placing the baby on her hip. At dinner time, Adeline carried Carolyn through the school, smirking as Carolyn looked around curiously as Remus, Severus, and Sirius followed behind them. Minerva gasped when she saw the baby, taking her immediately as Poppy and Ponoma gathered around, cooing at the little girl happily.
At dinner, Adeline received a few curious looks as she held Carolyn in her lap. Remus and Sirius were introduced as the permanent Defense teachers, the situation being explained to the students. The applause that broke out caused Carolyn to jump and start crying. Adeline stood, carrying the baby out through a side door and calming her before returning again, the loud Hall not scaring her anymore. Adeline fed Carolyn mashed potatoes from her own plate until the students were dismissed.
Harry and Aster rushed over to their parents as they walked out of the hall. Harry grabbed Carolyn immediately, smiling brightly as he held the baby. Ginny watched on, heart eyes on full display as Harry held his little sister. Aster rolled his eyes before hugging Adeline carefully.
"Why are you being gentle?" Adeline asked in confusion.
"Well, this time last year, you were pregnant," Aster shrugged. "Figured I'd be careful just in case."
"Cheeky," Adeline rolled her eyes. "I'm not pregnant."
"Well…" Sirius offered.
"I take my potions," Adelien rolled her eyes at him.
"Can we have, like, ten more little siblings?" Harry requested.
"Hell, no," Adeline shook her head.
"Mum cursed," Aster smirked, taking Carolyn when she reached for him.
"In front of the baby," Harry gasped, shaking his head. "We're so disappointed."
"I'm going to teach her every curse word," Adeline told them.
"No," Harry and Aster glared at Adeline together.
"Alright. Alright," Adeline held her hands up in a surrendering motion. "Merlin. You'd think she was theirs and not mine. Go to your common room. Curfew is coming up."
"We have three hours before curfew," Aster smirked, handing Carolyn over to Remus when he reached for her.
"Don't back talk me," Adeline rolled her eyes, ruffling Aster's hair and causing him to glare again as he tried fixing it. "Go. Both of you."
"Love you!" they both called as they ran for the stairs.
"Love you!" Remus, Sirius, and Adeline all yelled back as they walked at a leisurely pace towards the stairs.
Once back in their quarters, Remus laid Carolyn down to sleep as Sirius pulled Adeline into the bedroom, kissing her roughly. Remus joined them a few minutes later, just watching them for a moment before stripping and climbing onto the bed. Adeline woke up the next morning wrapped up between Remus and Sirius, smiling as she snuggled further into them, all sleeping in since there was no defense or magical theory for a few more hours.
Adeline and Remus were both in their respective classrooms when the bell rang, doors open and welcoming to the students joining them. Sirius sat in Adeline's classroom with Carolyn in his lap, smiling when Harry and Aster walked into the room and took their seats. Pansy Parkinson kept her head down as she took her seat, refusing to look at anyone as she held her sleeve down on her arm, as if Adeline could see through her sleeve or sense the dark mark. Adeline waved her wand, sending composition books and pens to each of the students, subtly causing a canister to float to Pansy's lap with the poultice she'd created for Severus and Reggie long ago inside with instructions written on the side.
Pansy stared at the poultice with large eyes before finally looking up, watching as Adeline began speaking to the class.
"This year, we're going to do something a little different," she announced to the students. "As you are all aware of by now, the Dark Lord has risen again. He didn't care that we were children not even out of Hogwarts in my time and he does not care in your time, either. I wish things were different, but now I need to prepare you all to protect yourselves. So, in magical theory, we will be studying how to make spells stronger. In each of your notebooks, there are runes drawn out and explained, along with a numerical chart that is known as arithmancy. I understand that most of you are not in Ancient Runes or Arithmancy electives, however the subjects will help you become stronger and help you protect yourselves in the future. We won't be going into too deep of a dive in the subjects, so don't worry. A basic understanding is all you'll need. Everyone keeping up so far?"
Every one nodded or spoke their agreement and Adeline gave a soft smile to the students.
"Good. Now, if any of you feel as if you aren't understanding or are falling behind at any point, please do not be afraid to come see myself, Professor Black, Professor Snape, or Professor Lupin. We are here to help. If you don't want to go to an adult, ask your classmates for assistance. I happen to know that there are a few of you that take both of those electives and you'll already have the basics down, which is what we will be going over today. You can take notes in the notebooks. They are what you'll be using in this class. Pens are easier to write with than a quill and I want to get the notes out of the way as quickly as possible so that we may get into the practical part of the class."
Adeline explained runes and how they are created for the rest of the class. She went over the same basics with her fifth and seventh years that day as well, her schedule being full the rest of the day. For the first years the next morning, she explained what magical theory was like she normally would for the eleven year olds, making sure they understood at least the main point of it before explaining what she taught to the older years, smiling when the first years sat up straighter at the idea of creating spells of their own and making the spells they would be learning stronger in the future. Sirius sat in on every class, Carolyn babbling lightly behind her and causing Adeline to smile brightly every time that she heard the baby, most of the girls in her classes cooing at the small sounds.
On Wednesday, Adeline sat in on Remus' classes, holding Carolyn as she watched Remus walk around the room as he taught the patronus charm to sixth years, Harry and Aster already knowing it. He taught the fifth years stronger shields, Adeline having created said shield and used it to protect him at one point. The second years were taught how to disarm their opponents, Sirius standing in front of Remus and not fighting as Remus disarmed him in order to show the students what the spell looked like and how to perform it.
By the end of the first week, Adeline and Remus were exhausted from teaching so much spell work, trying to teach all of the students how to defend themselves as quickly as possible. Severus joined them Friday night as they sat at the kitchen table with a small glass of firewhiskey in each of their hands, Sirius sitting beside Adeline once Carolyn had been laid down for bed. Minerva, Filius, Poppy, Ponoma, Septima (the arithmancy professor), and Bathsheba (the ancient runes professor) joined them a bit later, Minerva and Ponoma bringing their own bottles of whiskey with them.
Bathsheba sat across from Adeline, smirking as she told Adeline how many students who didn't take her classes had approached her to ask about the subject because of her. Septima smiled as she told Adeline she'd been receiving the same treatment, to which Adeline simply shared a smirk with Remus, the two having anticipated that happening. The staff began drinking with one another, all having felt the excitement in the air from the students paying more attention than normal in their classes. Adeline knew it was because the students simply wanted to learn as much as possible, the idea of a war breaking out that they needed to protect themselves in hanging above their heads.
"So, Adeline, I hear you're Hermione Granger's magical guardian now?" Ponoma asked.
"I am," Adeline nodded, feeling sorrow at what Hermione had asked her to do regarding her parents. "She asked that I take over as her magical guardian for the remainder of school. She wanted to ask me a while ago but thought I would decline until recently. I believe she just didn't want to ask for help."
"Well, it's very sweet how many students look up to you," Ponoma nodded. "There's your children, the Weasley children, Miss Granger, Mister Malfoy, Mister Longbottom, and quite a few Slytherins, I believe?"
"Yes," Adeline nodded. "I understand how they're feeling better than others may."
"Because none of us understand war," Minerva smirked, rolling her eyes sarcastically.
"You understand war from the side of someone who has always been on the side of the light," Adeline told her. "The Slytherin students on the other hand have parents who are on the other side and are trying to find a way to keep themselves and their family safe while trying to undermine a Dark Lord and secretly fight for the light side. A few of us know that feeling better than others."
"You had Remus and Severus had Lily. It couldn't have been too terribly difficult," Ponoma shrugged.
"I also had Walburga Black torturing me on a regular basis, Voldemort sending hitmen to kill my parents and child, people spying on me to make sure I wasn't on the side of the light, and people on the side of the light hating me because they didn't know that I was a spy. Remus and Lily weren't always around and, even if they were, that didn't make it easier. It made it more challenging as we tried to keep them a secret from Voldemort and the Death Eaters so they wouldn't go after them when they went after Sirius."
Adeline's voice was hard, anger clear in her features. The witches didn't notice though, too much alcohol in their systems to really realize what Adeline was saying. Remus noticed though, rubbing at his chest before looking over to see Adeline glaring down at her lap while she tried to calm herself. He moved over to Adeline, lifting her to her feet and wrapping his arms around her as he continued speaking to Fillius and Sirius from a few steps away.
Adeline melted into Remus' arms, letting out a sigh as she forced herself to calm. Remus just held her close, lips brushing her forehead every so often. Soon, everyone began leaving, heading to their own living quarters as they stumbled into the floo. Adeline would typically call out the locations for them so everyone made it away safely, but at the moment she didn't really care. She just wanted everyone out.
Remus passed out hangover potions while Sirius called out locations, both knowing Adeline was trying to remain calm in the moment, but not having a clue as to what had been said. Severus sat on the couch, sober as he watched Adeline carefully, having overheard everything that had been said and angry for her and himself. Once every one but the four of them were gone, Sirius and Remus took sobering potions and sat across from Adeline and Severus.
"Is that how everyone truly feels? That we had it easy as spies because we had Remus and Lily?" Adeline whispered the question.
"Who said that?" Remus asked, eyes wide.
"They were drunk," Severus offered, not quite believing his own words. "I'm sure they didn't mean it."
"Now say it like you believe it and maybe I will," Adeline grumbled.
"Give me a day," Severus shrugged. "I'll be able to sound more convincing by then."
Adeline leaned into Severus, head resting on his shoulder. Severus leaned into her as well, not caring as Remus and Sirius stared at the two. Remus understood that Severus and Adeline had been through more than they would ever tell him or Sirius. He'd come to terms with it long ago. Sirius hated the not knowing but, from the looks that Severus and Adeline traded at times, the darkness in their eyes and the exhaustion that they hid so well unless they were thinking of the things they'd been through together, knew better than to ask.
"So, House Boudreaux," Severus smirked, lightening the mood.
"Has a nice ring to it," Adeline smirked.
"No power," Severus shrugged as he and Adeline sat up.
"A house that contains all of us, the boy-who-lived and the person whose magical core matches his, and a baby that was created by two people with matching magical cores has no power? Not to mention the fact that I hold four seats in the Wizengamot at this present moment?" Adeline questioned. "I think you've gone mad."
"Fair point," Severus nodded, laughing lightly. "I should get to my quarters."
"You could always stay here," Adeline shrugged. "We actually have an extra room."
"Do you really?" Severus asked curiously.
"It was Sirius' until he began sleeping with us," Remus explained.
"Hmm," Severus hummed, nodding. "Alright."
"You can stay more than just tonight," Adeline spoke softly.
Severus gave her a tight smile, trying to not show any emotion. Adeline wondered if she'd almost moved him to tears for a moment before realizing that she absolutely had when he'd received the forms to change his last name. She stood, holding her hand out for Severus to take. He rolled his eyes as he took her hand, allowing her to lead him to what would now be known as his room. It was large with its own on-suite, a fireplace in the corner and decorated with warm colors. Severus stared at the room in wonder before looking to Adeline.
"Are you sure?" he asked, voice soft.
"Why are you always so surprised when I present you with a room?" Adeline smirked. "After the first couple of times, I figured you would have grown used to it. You even had your own room in the muggle home before we moved back into the cottage. Has the novelty really not worn off?"
"I don't think you understand," Severus whispered to her.
"Probably not," she nodded. "You didn't have a safe place with your father, but you will always have one with me. You're my family. Never forget that."
Severus pulled Adeline into a tight hug, which she reciprocated immediately, trying to put all of her thanks and gratitude for having always been on her side through the years into the hug. Severus, as if understanding, let out a shaky breath and gripped her tighter. The two were connected in a way that they never had been with anyone else; they knew all of the terrible deeds the other had been forced to act out due to Tom Riddle and his zealots, things they'd never shared with Lily, Remus, or Sirius, and never would. They found peace in one another's violence and darkness, knowing they would always have one another to rely on, no matter what came.
After a few moments, Severus pulled away, rubbing his face to dry it. Adeline pretended to not see, even though they both knew that she had. Severus got settled in his room, Tiffy bringing his belongings to the room for him as Adeline went to her own room, finding Remus and Sirius cuddled together in the center of the bed. She smiled, leaning against the doorframe for a few minutes, just watching them before she checked on Carolyn and then joined them in the bed.
By Monday morning, Adeline had decided to not be angry at what had been said the week before, blaming the alcohol that had been consumed. Severus, Sirius, and Remus decided to follow her lead in that department, knowing that if Adeline was willing to let it go then all was fine. Adeline taught her classes with Sirius sitting at her desk with Carolyn, Remus joining him during his off classes and bouncing the baby as he walked around the room with Adeline, helping her with the students, Adeline doing the same when she had a free period for Remus.
The next few weeks were much smoother than Adeline thought they would be once they got into a rhythm with their classes. The kids came to dinner every Monday and tea every Saturday. Adeline spent Friday and Sunday afternoons with the Slytherins, taking extra care with Pansy. She spoke softly to the children that were being dragged into their parent's roles in the previous war. Pansy willingly told her the task she'd been given, looking terrified and close to tears as Tracy Davis held her hand. Adeline decided then to start teaching the Slytherins how to occlude, knowing it helped Reggie and Sev during the first war get through the worst meetings.
The morning of Halloween, Hermione approached her.
"Professor Black?" Hermione asked, sounding nervous.
"You don't need to call me that unless we're in class, Hermione," Adeline smiled gently, giving the young witch her attention. "What's going on?"
"Well, it's Harry," Hermione sighed, taking the seat opposite Adeline. "He's been acting a bit strangely."
"How so?" Adeline asked.
"He stares at the map all the time. He's convinced that Pansy Parkinson is a death eater," Hermione sighed. "He said that she's been coming to see you regularly, though. I was hoping that you could talk to him? Make him see reason?"
"I'll speak to Harry," Adeline nodded, waiting as Hermione chewed her lip. "Is there something else?"
"It's embarrassing," Hermione mumbled.
"Hermione, I'm your magical guardian. You can talk to me about anything," Adeline kept her voice light, hoping it would get Hermione to open up a bit more.
"Still," Hermione sighed.
"How about you write it down here and we'll go from there?" Adeline asked, passing Hermione a pen and parchment.
Hermione nodded gratefully, writing on the parchment quickly. She stared at her own handwriting for a moment before passing it back to Adeline. Adeline had to hold in a smirk when she read that Hermione wanted a birth control potion. Adeline nodded and waved Hermione into her living quarters, leading her to the potions lab that she had there.
"Take this tomorrow morning before breakfast. I'll send you another every month the night before you need to take it. Do we need to have a talk about being responsible or what to expect?" Adeline asked her.
"What should I expect?" Hermione asked curiously.
"Well, the first time may hurt a little. Not near as much as everyone says it will, though. Just go slow and if you don't like something, speak up about it," Adeline told her. "Communication is important when you're getting to know one another physically."
"Thank you," Hermione nodded, looking a bit relieved.
"No problem," Adeline smiled.
Hermione's arms wrapped around Adeline suddenly, the smaller girl hiding her face against Adeline's body. Adeline simply hugged her back, giving Hermione the comfort that she was sure she wanted from her actual mother in the moment. Once Hermione was calmed, she gave Adeline another smile and left. Adeline watched her go before going back to her classroom to finish grading the papers that she'd abandoned previously.
Adeline had Harry stay after class the next day.
"So, what's this I hear about you stalking Pansy Parkinson?" Adeline smirked. "How does your girlfriend feel about that?"
"I'm not stalking her," Harry fidgeted a bit.
"You're watching her on the map for hours at a time," Adeline reminded him.
"Did Hermione tell you?" Harry asked, seeming a bit annoyed.
"No," Adeline lied. "Leave Pansy be. I'm handling it."
"So, I'm right?" Harry asked, eyes widening.
"Not fully," Adeline sighed. "Just leave it, please?"
"Okay," Harry sighed, nodding.
"Go to lunch," Adeline told him.
She watched him walk down the hall, Aster waiting for him outside the door. Adeline sighed before walking into her living quarters, smiling when she saw Severus bouncing Carolyn on his knee as he read a potions article. Sirius was trying to figure out how to sneak a picture of the scene as Remus shook his head, amusement clear in his eyes before he saw Adeline. His eyes brightened more when he saw her, eyes roaming over her for a moment before Adeline rolled her eyes and waved her wand, causing his potions to appear in front of him. Remus rolled his eyes, downing the potions while keeping his eyes on her.
"Keep looking at her like that and she'll be pregnant before the school year ends," Severus spoke up.
Adeline laughed as she passed Remus, heading to their room so she could get changed, having no more classes for the day and planning to spend the afternoon at the cottage. Once she was in muggle jeans and one of Remus' sweaters, she rejoined the others. She held her hands out to Carolyn, smiling brightly when the baby went straight to her. Adeline carried Carolyn through the floo, the three men following close behind her.
"Has she eaten lunch yet?" Adeline asked.
"She did," Sirius nodded. "She was yawning before you grabbed her."
"Nap time, little one," Adeline smiled, bouncing Carolyn as she headed up the stairs.
Carolyn yawned again, eyes closing as she leaned into Adeline more. Adeline placed Carolyn in her cradle gently, rubbing her stomach until Carolyn calmed, eyes closed as she fell asleep. She smiled before turning, finding Remus standing in the doorway. She left the room, kissing Remus' cheek before going back to the first floor. Sirius and Severus were arguing over what to have for lunch when she reached the bottom of the stairs, knowing the argument would last at least half an hour before she'd need to break it up. Remus walked up behind her, lips grazing her neck and causing her to shiver.
Quietly, the two headed back up the stairs and to their room. Remus put a privacy charm on the room before grabbing Adeline, kissing her gently. Adeline smiled into the kiss, hands travelling under his shirt. Remus let out a soft growl as Adeline ran her nails down his chest. She was lifted from the ground, her legs wrapping around his waist instantly.
Forty-five minutes later, Remus was dressed and leaving the room, Adeline deciding to copy Carolyn and get a nap in, her body still buzzing slightly. Sirius woke her two hours later, smirking when he saw that she was only wearing a sheet.
"Well, hello there. I was wondering why you grew tired suddenly," he joked.
"Shut it," Adeline rolled her eyes, blushing slightly as she stood.
Adeline stretched, looking over to see Sirius staring at her hungrily. She rolled her eyes, kissing his cheek before she began picking up her clothes from the floor. Sirius grabbed her waist from behind, pulling her against his chest and beginning to kiss along her neck. Adeline felt his hand travel down her body and gasped, back arching a bit. It was another hour before she was able to put her clothes on.
Severus had already returned to the school for the rest of the night once Adeline and Sirius joined Remus in the sitting room. He smirked when he saw them, his wolf able to smell them on each other. Adeline fell onto the couch, her head going to Remus' lap as Sirius lifted her legs and placed them in his lap. Carolyn was giggling from her play mat in the corner and Adeline couldn't help but look towards her, sitting up suddenly with wide eyes.
"Are you seeing this?" she asked Remus and Sirius, eyes wide.
"Oh, wow," Sirius breathed as Remus simply let out a surprised laugh.
Carolyn was waving her hands around, causing the blocks to float in the air. She would bat at one every so often, causing it to float further into the air. The three just watched, fascinated by the display of accidental magic at such a young age.
"Do you think her magical core is as strong as yours?" Remus asked curiously, staring at their daughter with adoration in his eyes.
"Possibly," Adeline shrugged. "We can't really test it until she's a bit older."
"I wish we knew when you first showed signs of magic," Sirius whispered.
Adeline felt a sadness sweep through her for a moment before she stood. She sat beside Carolyn, smirking when Carolyn batted a toy towards her. Adeline bumped the block, causing it to float into the air with the others.
After dinner, Remus and Sirius went into the forest. Padfoot and Moony ran through the forest, both howling at the moon. Adeline spent a quiet evening with Carolyn, putting her down for bed at nine. Tiffy assured her that she'd keep an eye on Carolyn and Adeline shifted into her bird, flying into the forest to join the two wizards. She landed on Moony's shoulder as he stopped to drink from the river that ran through the forest.
He nuzzled his head against her wing before he began running again, Padfoot joining them a moment later. Adeline flew above their heads. The three playing until they grew tired. Adeline landed beside Moony, shifting back and smiling as she ran her hands down Moony's back before petting Padfoot. Sirius shifted back to his human form, conjuring a mattress and multiple blankets and pillows. Adeline put a heating charm on the area, the autumn air carrying a small chill. They fell asleep with Moony wrapped around them.
