Chapter 50
Short Trip
Bella
"What? Emmett, you know I don't like parties!", I said.
"You did enjoy the last party," he said with a grin, taking me in his arms. "And this time it's just you and me celebrating."
He looked at me with his wonderful eyes and even though I was a vampire, my legs felt soft.
Alice came out and threw two pink suitcases on the back seat.
Emmett laughed.
"Al ... we're not going away for a month. It's just a short trip!", he said and rolled his eyes.
She just shrugged her shoulders.
"A woman can never have enough clothes."
"Short trip? What are you up to?"
He grinned maliciously and lifted me into the car.
I could resist, but he gave me a passionate kiss and I melted.
"Bye, guys, see you tomorrow night or something ..."
Then he sat in the Jeep, put the pedal to the metal and headed south on Route 101.
"Emmett. May I know where we are going?"
He shook his head.
"Surprise."
He was driving three times the speed limit.
I gave up asking further and sat back.
Six hours later we were speeding through the Nevada desert, and I didn't suspect anything good. He drove off the road into the desert, toward a mountain range nearby.
"What exactly are we doing in the middle of the Nevada desert?", I asked, completely confused.
"Hunting, of course," Emmett said, jumping out of the Jeep.
He reached across the loading area and had four bottles of 'Jack Daniels' in one hand and four ropes in the other.
"Emmett!"
I wanted to sound reproachful, but just had to laugh at the idea of what he was planning.
I hopped out of his huge jeep and was with him at vampire speed. It was already seven o'clock in the evening and at this time of year the sun had already disappeared behind the horizon.
"Are you going to let me in on your plan now?", I asked with a glance at the ropes and the whiskey.
"Las Vegas without alcohol is not Las Vegas! So let's catch four grass-eating nasty bighorn sheep and give them something to drink. "
He grinned broadly, because I could also imagine the rest. Then he threw me two ropes, which I caught without problems.
Las Vegas. By the time we turned onto NV-376, I was sure he was going to drag me to Las Vegas. I rolled my eyes, but since we were here, we could have a little fun.
"Well, first one to catch his two sheep and tie them to my Jeep wins," Emmett said.
"And what is the price?"
"I don't know, I didn't think about it."
I couldn't help but laugh out loud.
"The winner gets to decide what we do first in Las Vegas," he decided, twitching his eyebrows.
Oh God, if I didn't want to end up in a strip show, I had to win.
Without waiting for his "Go", I jumped north to the rocky hills where I smelled a herd. I wasn't particularly thirsty, so it was easy for me to just catch the animals and not immediately slam my fangs down their throats. I tied both of mine to the jeep and leaned casually against it, as if I had been waiting for hours, when Emmett arrived with his sheep under his arm.
"Won!" I purred as he also tied his bighorns, and we began to water them.
He looked at me grimly.
Somehow I felt guilty just getting the poor sheep drunk like that, but we would kill them quickly and painlessly.
"And what are we going to do for an hour?", I asked and put my hand on his chest.
I pushed him backwards until he was leaning against his Jeep.
I had to take advantage of it while I was still stronger than him.
I pressed myself against him and our lips met in complete unison. I ran one hand down to his crotch and gently stroked the bulge in his pants.
Emmett groaned at the touch and pressed me closer, his hands already under my sweater.
An hour later we were lying naked on the sandy ground when Emmett said that the alcohol should now be in the blood of the animals. So we drank the blood, put on our clothes, and drove on - under loud protest on my part. Emmett said it would be a while before we would even notice anything from the alcohol and besides, a drunken vampire still drives ten times better than a human.
After driving on for an hour, we arrived at the huge shining city.
I was really overwhelmed.
"The MGM?", I asked in horror as we stopped in front of the hotel's entrance.
"Come on, Bells, for one night," he said, pulling out his black 'American Express Centurion Card'.
If I wasn't already slightly drunk, I would never have allowed him to do that.
But somehow we were already at the reception, where Emmett reserved a Skyloft for one night and pulled out the card again.
Our suitcases were brought up and we went to the elevator.
I hoped that a Skyloft was not one of the expensive rooms.
Emmett pressed the top button.
The most expensive were always on top ...
"Em? How much did the room cost for one night?"
"Not much ..."
And before I could ask further, he pressed me against the elevator wall and kissed me.
He was really sneaky!
I pushed him away from me as the elevator arrived at our floor with a slight 'pling'.
"How is it that we're both indirectly down two liters of whiskey, but after an hour we're still not totally staggering around knocked out on the floor?", I asked as we walked down the hall.
"I don't know, it kind of spreads slower in our body. Maybe because of the poison or something. Ask Carlisle, I'm sure he knows," and he stopped smiling in front of a door and opened it.
Oh ... my ... God!
I walked straight ahead to the opposite side of the room or rather the loft. It was huge and the whole wall was made of glass. In front of it was a balcony with a pool. I turned around and looked at the rest. Even just the living area was huge, with white designer furniture and dark wood.
I went to the bedroom, where a king-size bed with Italian silk linens was just waiting to be smashed.
Before I thought any further, I turned around and looked for the bathroom. The walls were made of small white gold tiles and there was a large bathtub and shower.
As in every room, there was a flat-screen TV.
"Emmett? Was there even a more expensive room than this?", I said.
He joined me in the bathroom and pushed my two suitcases in.
"Nope. Let me take a quick shower, then you can go into the bathroom and get ready," he said, grinning to himself.
After all, there was no point in resisting it and slowly I felt the alcohol warming my cold body from the inside.
I went out and let him take a shower.
I didn't want to sit on the designer furniture with my dirty clothes, so I stood in front of the window and looked at the dazzling and never sleeping Las Vegas.
I heard Emmett turn off the water and tie a towel around himself. I went into the bathroom and stroked his arm as I passed.
He was just too perfect to be true.
In the bathroom I opened the first suitcase.
Oh Alice! How could I expect her to pack even one piece of clothing of mine. The suitcase was full of cocktail dresses from various brands. We were only here for one night!
Among gold sequins, silver silk, and red chiffon, I found a piece of soft beige fabric. I took the dress out from among the others and put it on the suitcase. In the other suitcase she had packed makeup utensils, hairspray, shoes, contact lenses, jewelry, and cream-colored lace underwear. I heaved a sigh.
In the room, I heard Emmett chuckling softly.
I quickly hopped in the shower and then put on the underwear Alice had chosen and the dress. It was cream rather than beige, was strapless and ran tightly along my body to mid-thigh. The cut was simple and classic.
I left my long brown hair open, because it went well with the color of the dress. I applied very little blush on the cheeks and mascara on the eyelashes.
I had never needed much makeup before and with my new beautiful face, certainly not.
When I went to choose a pair of shoes, I saw that Alice had only packed high heels. From the looks of it, there was a matching pair of shoes for every dress, because I found a pair that matched the dress perfectly.
Still the dark brown contact lenses in the eyes and I was ready.
The whole thing took no more than five minutes. Vampire speed really had its advantages.
I walked a few steps back and forth in the bathroom without tripping.
I was probably already drunk enough to walk safely in high heels. Then it struck me that since I was a vampire, I had never tripped. I wasn't clumsy at all anymore. Why was it only now that I noticed this?
I walked outside and saw Emmett enjoying the view of Las Vegas.
He was wearing a suit ... wow. A Greek god in a suit.
"Em?", I asked, and he turned to me.
I did a pirouette.
Since when could I do that in high heels?
"How do I loo ..."
Already he was with me and put his hands on my back.
"Perfect," he said and kissed me.
I smiled and took his hand.
"Well, let's go to the casino," I said enthusiastically.
