Ever After High/Twisted Wonderland cross, in which Vil is the Evil Queen's son. Needless to say, he's not too happy about people wanting him to follow in his mother's footsteps. And before any of you ask, "Violet" is the pseudonym Vil is using because he refuses to have anyone associate him with his mother.

It was Legacy Day, and everyone was eager to see the next generation of Snow White and the Evil Queen swear in to follow their destinies. Especially Violet Queen, the daughter of the Evil Queen... no one knew anything about her as she had been raised away from the other fairy tale bloodlines.

The girl who walked up to the podium after Apple White (the next generation of Snow White), was incredibly beautiful. She wore darker clothing and her raven black hair was well kept. She also wore a fashionable crown made of gold, rather than the darker one most would expect. Her clothing was extremely trendy and of the latest fashions. She wore heels without a single misstep and her very aura reminded people that she was royalty and they had best show her the proper respect.

She wasn't a queen...yet...but there was no doubting her bloodline.

Violet walked up to the podium with a flat look on her face. It was clear she was not amused by the scenes that the book showed of her poisoning Apple and being subsequently banished and hated for it.

However she accepted her key and after a moment, spoke.

"I solemnly swear to follow the path of the Fairest Queen and pursue the path of true beauty," said Violet, and turned the key before anyone could process what she had said.

Headmaster Grimm's expression went from shock to outright panic, which no one expected.

It soon became clear why as the Storybook of Legends exploded into magical flames, and burnt itself to a crisp before a bewildered Violet Queen.

"What have you done?" he demanded, irate.

Violet simply glared at him.

Wait, wait, wait...this isn't how you're going to start, is it?

What's so wrong with that?

Proper stories need a beginning! Starting at the big scene first tells the readers nothing!

Oh very well... it all began a week ago, with the beginning of the new school year...

If there was one thing that annoyed Vil, it was being blackmailed by his biological father. Everyone knew Ever After High was a subpar education at best, but his father had insisted he attend at least one year as a student. If only so Vil could properly inherit his mother's legacy, regardless of how she might feel about the matter.

After all, his father had been kind enough to send his only son away shortly after it became apparent that his mother greatly disliked the fact she had not given birth to a daughter.

Vil had agreed to it on one condition...that he didn't have to apply under his real name or gender. He flatly refused to let anyone know he had attended Ever After High as a student...particularly since it was well known that the headmaster had a bad habit of brainwashing his students into following their ancestor's stories with no regard of their own preferences.

After all, it had been headmaster Grimm's subtle manipulations that had caused his mother to become so isolated she had little choice but to follow the path of the Evil Queen. She had been good friends with the previous generation of Snow White until that point.

To that end, Vil had adopted the persona of "Violet Queen" since everyone was under the impression his mother had given birth to a daughter.

The moment he entered the school, Vil was utterly disgusted. It was clear that the students had been thoroughly brainwashed...particularly Apple White who was eagerly telling all and sundry how 'happy' she was to follow in her ancestor's footsteps and allow herself to be poisoned just to inherit her role as queen.

It made him seriously wonder if these idiots had never actually read or heard of the original stories, because in the original fairy tale the evil queen had gone to Snow White's wedding with her prince...only to be made to wear red hot shoes fresh from a forge and forced to dance until she died.

Vil made a mental note to avoid that girl like the absolute plague, because there was no way in the name of the Seven he was going to humor her antics.

A few hours later...

Vil's only thought when he saw the room assignment for the year was...

'For the love of the Seven, why?!'

It was like a nightmare that refused to end. Not only had the idiot twit singled "Violet Queen" out because of their respective roles in the story, but she had insisted on decorating the room as if she already knew what the heir of the Evil Queen would like.

Vil's side of the room was so cliché and dark it was beyond appalling. Never mind the decorations, the area was entirely too dark for him to do his make-up in the morning, and the less said about the aesthetics, the better.

Originally he had been annoyed that his luggage was delayed due to some scheduling mishap...now he was just plain relieved. Who knew what sort of damage this idiot would have caused behind his back with her antics?

Vil's estimation of Ever After High and it's curriculum only dropped further the second he realized several courses that he had chosen were dropped and 'villainous' ones were put in their place.

And his ire only rose when he went to speak to Baba Yaga, the faculty adviser about the matter.

"Headmaster Grimm changed them? Why?" demanded Vil.

She looked a tad nervous, but steeled herself.

"The courses you picked are more oriented towards the...good...fairy tales, or are for heroes only."

"Are you telling me that Headmaster Grimm thinks it's acceptable to alter a student's classes on his own whim and what he deems 'acceptable'?" said Vil, irate.

Baba Yaga said nothing, but her silence was particularly damning.

"Is there any way to change the courses he removed?" asked Vil, annoyed.

"Depends on what you want to take," she said.

It took a few tweaks and a bit of compromising, but eventually Vil was satisfied with the schedule he had. He refused to be nudged in any particular direction just because he was the next "Evil Queen".

Seven, how he detested that name. It had taken a lot of careful prodding to realize that Grimm had essentially tried to erase the true stories of the Seven from his realm of influence. For what reason he went to such lengths or why he decided it was necessary, Vil had no idea. However the level of brainwashing happening was disgusting.

On a related note, Vil's missing personal items had finally arrived. The first thing he did was cast his signature spell on everything, down to the last brush. He simply couldn't be careful enough about any of it, not after what that idiot girl had pulled the very first night.

He still hadn't finished removing all those ridiculous decorations she insisted on putting up. Her taste in décor was absolutely atrocious.

"What a mess this is... How am I supposed to survive an entire year with a roommate like that?" complained Vil to himself.

"Well someone's being a sourpuss!" said a cheerful voice.

Vil turned to find...the Mad Hatter's daughter. Maddie, if he remembered right.

"I'm stuck rooming with someone who's got the wrong sort of madness in them," explained Vil.

"There's a wrong sort?" said Maddie, tilting her head.

Vil raised an eyebrow.

"Would you consider someone who is eager to eat a piece of poisoned fruit with no real guarantees that it's filled with a sleeping potion and not something lethal to be the right sort of mad?"

Maddie blinked. Thought that one over seriously, then looked at Vil.

"Well when you put it like that, that is the wrong sort of mad," she admitted.

"I just don't get why she's so eager to eat a piece of fruit and rely on something as dubious as true love's kiss. What if Daring isn't her one true love? She'd be setting herself up for a sleep as long as Sleeping Beauty's daughter Briar if she's not careful. Or worse, what if he gets side tracked and takes longer than expected?" said Vil, pointing out flaws in the story. "How does she know Daring is her prince? What if he's meant for someone else?"

Maddie stared at him.

"Wow, you put a lot of thought into that."

"Compared to Apple's thought process, you're positively sane," said Vil.

Maddie stared at him. That was the first time anyone had ever said something like that to her.

Vil sighed.

"I almost wish it was possible to get a part-time job. Then maybe I could rent a cheap apartment or something away from the dorms and avoid that idiot completely."

Maddie seemed to consider something.

"What about working part time in a cafe in exchange for a discounted rent?" she asked.

Vil looked at her.

"My dad always has trouble finding part-timers willing to work, mostly because very few people are willing to follow Wonderland rules even off the clock."

Vil didn't even have to think twice about it. Compared to living around that spoiled brat of a princess with delusions of grandeur, having to follow Wonderland traditions was cake-walk. Besides, the Queen of Hearts was one of the Seven.

Maddie lead Vil to the hat-shop/cafe her father ran.

Vil could sense the obvious love between them and it made him smile.

"Maddie said you had a part-time position open?" asked Vil.

"I'm sure your parents can supply whatever funds you need for school. It wouldn't do for the Evil Queen's heir to take on a part-time job," said Maddie's father.

Vil sighed.

"It's less about the money and more along the lines of 'I need alternative sleeping arrangements'," explained Vil. "For reasons I will never understand, the headmaster made Apple White my roommate. On the very first day, without even asking me, she redecorated my half of the room in a fashion she believed was 'appropriate' for a future Evil Queen."

"Wait, she did what?" said Maddie horrified.

"She decorated my half of the room, without asking me if I wanted it decorated in the first place. Thankfully, due to a scheduling mix-up my things arrived late, but I dread to think of what she might have done if they had arrived on time," said Vil. "She also never shuts up about being the next Snow White, and seems to believe I fully intend to follow such a ridiculous path."

"Well don't you? I mean it's rather hard for anyone to stand up to Headmaster Grimm," said Maddie's father.

"But there's more than one variation of the story, is there not?" smirked Vil. "Come Legacy Day, I'll announce to the entire school I plan to follow the path of the Fairest Queen, which is the alternative title for the 'Evil Queen'. He can't exactly complain because I decided I'd rather honor the original heritage of one of the Seven, rather than the overused plot he's been pushing for years now."

Maddie and her father stared at him.

"Wait... did you call her the Fairest Queen? Where did you hear that ancient title?" said Maddie seriously.

"I wasn't raised in my mother's castle. My father left me with one of his cousins and I've been living under another name for years. I'm actually here under a pseudonym so no one associates my name with this place," said Vil flatly. "If I wasn't being blackmailed into attending, I never would have stepped foot in the school at all."

"So you respect the true Queen of Hearts, not the image that Grimm has presented," said Maddie's father slowly.

"I respect the Queen of Hearts and the spirit of Strictness she represented," said Vil. "Just as I honor the Fairest Queen and the spirit of tenacity she had. I would be more than happy to learn and honor the traditions of one of the Seven, if given a chance."

Maddie's father smile at that was broad. It was so refreshing to meet someone who gave the Queen proper respect, as opposed to the image they were forced to keep around Grimm because of what the previous Evil Queen had done.

Coincidentally it took all of three days for Lizzie Heart, the future Queen of Hearts, to become besties with Vil over the matter of the Seven.

She was just as irritated at having to maintain such a low-class image of the Queen as Vil was having to be around Apple on a near constant basis.

(Coincidentally the Evil Queen was downright cackling at the ripples her son was creating with his actions. She didn't even care if he was crossplaying as a girl under an assumed name. Grimm had it coming.)
