Chapter 12

The Past

Adam stood in the council room, standing before Sera and the rest of the high-ranking angels. Normally, the room was reserved for Sera's meetings with the middle-tier angel council, but the current events in Hell, from the news Adam got from Lilith, were important to bring up to the more prominent figures in heaven.

Lute stood at Adam's side at his request. It had been too long since he last met with Sera and the other high-ranking angels in a meeting and wanted someone's support on his side; Lute's presence helped him a lot to calm his nerves. And, of course, he had thought of an idea that may help with the particular problem Lilith was having in Hell and required Lute to be present.

Once the meeting started, Adam explained the terrible situation that Lilith has come across in Hell: an uprising in Hell, sinners growing in power, and plans to attack Heaven. According to Lilith, sinners greatly outnumbered everyone in heaven. And supposedly, even Lilith and Lucifer were having a tough time themselves keeping the sinners in line, especially due to the fact some individuals have attained destructive power somehow.

"I don't see why we should be worried," Wimdor declared bluntly. "They have no means to reach us."

"But what if they eventually do?" another high rank-king angel, Imen countered. "If they're truly becoming powerful, then shouldn't we address this threat soon?"

"Imen is right," Moro said with a frown. "Humans continue to grow in sheer numbers in Hell. That in itself is a problem because even we won't be able to control them all."

"What an unfortunate situation we are finding ourselves in," Uner sighed, standing near Sera. "And all because of Lucifer's doing."

The room didn't take long to be filled with voices overlapping with ideas and concerns. Adam, wearing a frown, glanced at Lute, who remained steady next to him. He turned back to look up at the angels, puzzled why they couldn't see that the solution to their problem was, quite literally, standing beside him.

"Why don't we just kill them?" Adam asked loud enough to get everyone to hear him. His question made the room fall into complete dead silence. Most of the angels stared at him in astonishment, leaving him to wonder if perhaps he shouldn't have brought the idea up.

"Eliminate them?" Zerachin's tone was frigid, as his countless eyes narrowed at Adam.

"I mean… yeah, why not?" Adam responded, a bit casually. "I thought sinners ain't worth our time. That's why they're in hell to suffer. Why don't we just get rid of them for good if they're just gonna become a problem for us?"

There was silence again from everyone before Sera was the one to respond. "Adam, things aren't that simple."

"Wait a moment, Adam has a point," Moro interjected calmly, sparking both confusion from everyone, and at the same time stirring something in Adam at the fact the angel agreed with him. "Sinners are nothing but defects. They are a disease that should no longer exist."

"But they are still our creations, are they not?" Vineat interjected.

"Technically, yes," Moro conceded. "However, they have proven to destroy anything they touch. If they continue to multiply and grow in power to the extent of threatening us, then not only do we face peril, but our other creations, those who have proven themselves worthy and perfect, will also be endangered."

"But we're not meant to end souls," Vineat protested.

"If souls were not meant to be destroyed, then the angelic weapons wouldn't exist," Imen brought up.

"We angels are supposed to be peaceful."

"Then what's the point of having angelic warriors?" Adam frowned, motioning towards Lute. "Yeah, yeah, I get they're supposed to be guarding heaven, but what if they can do more than that? Why not attack first before those insects do? And if they kill a bunch of them, then bang, we fix the problem."

"Maybe we need not exterminate them all, merely curb their population for the time being," Uner suggested. "Attacking and killing a huge number of them would definitely keep the rest in line for the time being."

"But… killing is wrong," Vineat said quietly.

"But we all have a responsibility to protect our world, and our beautiful creations here," Uner reminded her. "Sometimes, there is no other way around things."

Everyone glanced at one another for a moment before they all turned to Sera, who had the final say in things.

She closed her eyes briefly, struggling with her response. After a few minutes of silence, she responded. "It seems we have no alternative," she said. "We will eliminate a fraction of the sinners. However, I have conditions. This plan remains strictly confidential. No one outside this room is to be made aware."

"I have a query," Wimdor interjected. "Who shall lead the warrior angels in this extermination?"

A hush fell upon the high-ranking angels, uncertainty passing between them. Even though the majority agreed to proceed with the plan, none seemed eager to shoulder the burden of leading a mass genocide.

Adam observed their hesitation, expecting for one of them to step forward, but the silence stretched on. His gaze drifted to Moro, who met his eyes briefly. A silence exchanged passed between them. Adam felt the urge to make him proud.

"I'll do it," Adam blurted out, getting all eyes turned to him in surprise, even Imen's owlish eyes grew larger. "Yeah, why not? I know I'm not the best captain, but I can learn. Let me protect Heaven. You've all said I'm great, so let me prove it. I'll become heaven's defender," he said with amusement, glancing at Lute, who nodded in agreement to him.

Adam thought he saw Sera look at him with concern, but he relished Moro's expression that held a sense of pride. "Your offer is truly noble, Adam," Moro remarked. "To shoulder such a tremendous responsibility willingly is admirable. You make us proud."

Adam grinned at the praise and did his best to contain the warmth that swelled in his chest. "I swear, I'll keep Heaven safe from those fucking sinners," he declared loudly.

"Adam… language…" Zerachin lectured, though Adam chuckled in response, scratching the back of his head with amusement.

Adam felt a wave of anxiety wash over him, though he couldn't understand why. Standing before his squad and the additional angel warriors who had volunteered to assist with the exorcism. He was surrounded by many unfamiliar faces. Yet, having his original squad members gave him some comfort and confidence.

"Alright, you lot!" Adam announced. "Listen up. We're going down there and show no mercy. Heaven depends on us. Now, who's fuckin' with me?" The ladies hollered in agreement as Adam conjured a massive portal with a flick of his wrist. "Let's shred 'em!" he commanded, and with a roar, the warriors flew through the portal, taking them to hell. Immediately, the angels dove for their prey.

Adam followed Lute's lead as she descended upon a sinner in a flash, tackling him to the ground before she drove her spear into the man's head, blood bursting from it.

Witnessing the scene unfold below, Adam couldn't shake the unsettling sensation that gripped him. He slowly flew down to join Lute, who was just standing there, frozen, among other sinners who were in shock as well as they stared at the scene.

Adam stared at the motionless body of the man, unsure how to feel about it just when a memory resurfaced in his mind.

Adam had been flying around the streets of Germany, just like he had been since arriving on Earth with Lepin a few days ago, until he was hovering over a terrible accident.

His golden eyes were wide in sheer terror at the sight below him. A group of people scrambled frantically around a mangled body lying motionless on the stone ground, twisted in a bloody mess. The face was smashed into a mess of flesh and bone, making him unrecognizable.

Adam had seen a car strike the human with such brutal force that it sent them flying into the path of other vehicles.

Now, Adam had seen death after killing animals to survive while he was alive on Earth - the first kill was so traumatic and hard to digest, but eventually, he learned to shove such emotions aside. But seeing an actual human die, especially in such a tragic way, made his mind reel with shock and his heart pound in his chest.

The human body was not supposed to look like a crumpled mess.

Lepin glided over to Adam and glanced down at the scene. "That's unfortunate," he said calmly before he noticed Adam trembling. His expression softened right away. "Hey, it's okay, Adam. I know it looks pretty bad, but that's how things go."

Lepin's words were unable to break Adam's shaken state, whose eyes turned to him with disbelief.

Lepin offered a small, understanding smile. "It's not so bad as it seems," he murmured reassuringly. "Remember, he's just going to resurrect, either in heaven or hell. Don't let all that blood scare you."

Adam shook his head back to reality after recalling the first time he saw a human 'die'. He had later on watched others die in countless ways in his 12 years on Earth and learned to just brush it aside, just like Lepin would. And just like he had done on Earth, he let the lifeless sinner underneath Lute not affect him at all. Even though the situation was different since the sinner wouldn't resurrect. Wouldn't appear in Heaven or Hell.

Adam noticed other angels hovering up in the sky, staring at who Lute had just killed.

"What's wrong?" Adam asked her, as well as the others who seemed hesitant in their expressions on their faces. Adam hated how his chest felt tight and felt anger rise in him as well as the anxiety he was feeling earlier. "They're just scum!" he yelled out loud. "They had their shot on Earth, and now they're a damn threat. We gotta be the heroes here. Protect what matters, so come on, fucking kill them!" His words spurred some into action, and eventually, his exorcists were slicing and stabbing other sinners who were either running away or trying their best to fight back somehow.

Lute ripped her spear from her first kill before charging forward, all while Adam shoved aside the feelings and doubts, yet his heart continued to pound to the rhythm of the screams echoing through Hell.

"You've done well, Adam," Moro commended with a smile as Adam concluded his report to Sera and the other high-ranking angels on how the mission went. Moro lingered in the room, the last one with Adam, after a period of silence from Sera.

Adam chuckled in response. "What can I say? I'm a badass through and through. Never go back on my word."

Moro chuckled too, stepping closer to Adam, casting a gaze downward due to their height difference. "Adam, remove your mask," he requested.

Adam hesitated briefly. "Um, well, you see, I haven't had time to brush my hair today so-" he trailed off when he saw Moro looking rather annoyed, pushing Adam to reluctantly comply. He lifted off his mask to reveal his slightly pallid complexion and dark circles beneath his eyes. The smudged eyeliner wearing the mask all day was clear as day.

But Moro reached out to gently lift Adam's chin before using magic to remove the eyeliner off. He then smiled warmly at him. "I haven't seen your face in quite some time," he said. "I forgot how perfect you are."

Adam found himself feeling warm, a small smile appearing on his face before he leaned into Moro's touch instinctively. "Keep up the excellent work," Moro encouraged before releasing Adam and heading off.

A pang of longing surged through Adam as Moro walked out of the room. He wished Moro would have stayed a while longer with him. Yet, he took in the angel's praise deep in his chest, giving him the drive to continue to prove himself towards others.

The fourth exorcism was underway—the high-ranking angels had agreed, after the second one, to hold an extermination in Hell every year to keep the population down and prevent any potential uprisings against Heaven.

Adam was strumming his guitar idly while Lute and the other main exorcists, now wearing demonic-looking masks—which was Adam's idea to look like a 'band' of warriors—were taking down sinners at the local bar in hell. Adam watched as the group gradually dwindled, leaving him alone in the room.

With a sigh, he continued to pluck at the strings as he went over to the bar and looked up at the countless glass bottles that somehow stayed intact during the brawl inside. Adam was bored and just wanted to go home, especially to prepare for his next concert now that Sera and the others were not giving him so many duties anymore. Watching the exorcists kill had become dull. His attention was then drawn to a poster on the wall of a guitar that had a resemblance to a battle axe. He thought it was pretty cool. Suddenly, without warning, a sinner barged into the room before shooting at Adam with a barrage of bullets from a machine gun.

The bullets tore through the air, and Adam stood frozen, feeling the impact of them. The bottles behind the bar exploded into a shower of glass and liquor. Alcohol burst out with the shards, scattering everywhere and raining on Adam.

The gunfire ceased, leaving Adam still standing. His body remained unscathed, no wounds present. Yet, his robe was riddled with countless holes and was now drenched in alcohol. The pungent stench of his mask, soaked in booze, burned his nostrils.

He glanced down at himself, and Adam couldn't suppress the surge of anger that bubbled within him to see the humiliating state he was in, and all done by a being that had no right to exist anymore. All by someone so insignificant…

How dare something so disgusting fuck with the Adam?

He slowly looked up at the sinner, his golden eyes glowing in rage. And without hesitation, Adam's left arm shot out, unleashing a golden energy beam from his hand, instantly incinerating the sinner at the spot, tearing down any buildings in its wake, all while he screamed in full blind rage.

Then silence filled the air as Adam stood at the ruined bar, his breaths coming in ragged gasps as he stared at the destruction before him. Confusion clouded his mind at what he had just done. He had taken a life effortlessly; with a power he hadn't known he possessed. And the sinner didn't seem like it was coming back to life.

Did he eliminate a soul without an angelic weapon…?

He looked at his hand that trembled.

"Sir!" he heard Lute's voice cut through his scattered thoughts. "Are you alright?" He glanced up to see the concerned faces of a handful of exorcists who had witnessed the golden beam's destructive power nearby.

Adam remained silent while his trembling hand gradually steadied. Lute's question replayed in his mind, and he took notice that yes, he was fine. He had taken down a soul and felt…

He stood there, trying to understand what he felt. At first, he had been furious at what the sinner did, and now…

At this moment, he couldn't help but recall how Sera and the other angels praised his existence, how great and perfect he was. And he was starting to see at this moment, he truly was as special as they claimed, much more special…

A sense of exhilaration coursed through his veins as an amused smile played at his lips, mimicked by his mask, while he finally moved, approaching the group of angels.

"Looks like the Dickmaster is more than just a pretty face and a rock star," he quipped with a grin.

Before long, Adam found himself enveloped in a crackling golden energy, wielding his guitar-turned-battle-axe with laughter as he unleashed countless waves of beams with it, tearing through souls left and right inside a ball room with a few of his warriors hovering over him with delight.

Present-ish

After the disaster in the dining room, Adam was back in his room, utterly spent. The outburst he had had taken a toll on him, draining him both physically and emotionally.

He lay in bed, ignoring Charlie, who was asking him what had happened at the dinner while she was gone. She asked him if he wanted to talk about it. She even tried holding his hand, but he just pulled away from her after recalling Alastor's words.

In truth, he felt terrible, his heart craving for Charlie's comfort, yet he didn't want to continue to appear so weak.

He curled on to himself, his fractured arm cradled against his chest. He closed his eyes as he heard Charlie walking out of the room, leaving him completely numb and defeated.

As Charlie lay in bed, she observed the wall across from her while Vaggie settled beside her.

Vaggie was surprised to see Charlie in bed at that time, especially since on the other days, she would still be with Adam.

"Adam wouldn't tell me what happened in the dining room," Charlie mumbled. "And if I don't do something about it, things might just go from bad to worse with him." She turned to face Vaggie before she continued. "Even though today was a disaster, I think I've got a plan to help him. I'm going to need your help, Vaggie. Only if you're up for it, of course. I get it if you're not comfortable with it."

Vaggie laid there silently, watching her girlfriend. "Only if you promise to finally have a goodnight's sleep," she whispered, bringing a tired smile out of Charlie, who eventually closed her eyes.

"Yeah… I'm beat…" she admitted. "Can't be much help to Adam if I'm sleeping on the job." Vaggie scooted closer to her, their arms holding to one another in an embrace, and soon both fell asleep as the night wrapped them in a peaceful slumber.

Present

Adam was asleep but was nudged awake by Charlie who had pulled the covers off his head. He blinked his eyes tiredly and looked up to see Charlie grinning brightly. The bags she had in her eyes the days prior weren't as prominent, unlike his that just continued to look worse with his dark circles.

"Hey, sleepyhead," Charlie said warmly. "I would say good morning, but it looks like we both overslept."

The curtains in the room blocked any light from slipping through, and again, Adam barely had any idea at the time of day it was these past weeks.

Charlie placed folded clothes on the side of the bed. "I brought you some new clothes. I figured they'd be a lot more comfier than the white robe dad gave you. Go ahead and change into them. I'll be waiting for you downstairs in the meantime."

Adam stared at her with utter confusion at what she had just said to him. He slowly sat up on the bed. She wanted him to leave his room? After what he had done at the dinner table?

Charlie gave him a soft smile this time and for a moment, she looked like she was about to place a comforting hand on the side of his face but stopped when Adam tensed up. He mentally cursed himself for not allowing himself to enjoy her warmth… His gaze darted to the shadows lingering in the far corner of the room, as though expecting the piercing, glowing red eyes of a certain demon mocking him.

"Adam," Charlie said, drawing his attention back to her. "It's not good for you to always be in this room. And I think some socializing will be good for you. So, would you come downstairs for me?" Adam's gaze lingered on his lap, having the impulse to tell her she lost her mind to think he would want to talk to anyone else in hell after the events of the day before. Yet…

'You wouldn't want to disappoint her, would you…?' Alastor's words whispered in his mind, causing his chest to twist and his heart to shutter with panic. He reminded himself why he wasn't in the other dimension alone. The thought of angering Charlie to the point of her reconsidering his presence in the hotel, perhaps even prompting Lucifer to banish him back to his prison, sent a wave of dread through him.

Maybe that's why Alastor and the others were so confident to taunt him - they knew he was at Charlie's mercy.

"Yeah," Adam responded to her and managed to appear calm by letting out his words in a grumble. "Whatever…"

Adam found himself in the lounge room, settled upon a sofa, clad in dark grey sweatpants and a black T-shirt, both slightly oversized on his frame. Charlie was uncertain of his current size, since he had lost some weight - he was still not near the size he used to be when he was first created. But, for now, the pants were tightened with a hair tie at the side so it wouldn't slip down on him.

Sharing the room with him were Angel and Husk, seated side by side on the couch. Angel was uncomfortable, and not because Adam admitted he loved killing sinners, heck, Angel was used to being around murderers, but due the fact Adam continued to look so run down.

Husk was observant of Adam but would not say a word to him. Nifty sat at Angel's right, her gaze fixed on Adam' with a curious, yet amused gaze that made him feel uneasy and annoyed. Across from him sat Vaggie, her eyes narrowed at him, and he couldn't help but return the gesture back at times.

"Alright, everyone," Charlie began with a smile as she pulled a chair over to join Adam, only to pause with a puzzled expression. She turned to Vaggie.

"Not sure where Alastor is, and Cherri hasn't returned since last night," Vaggie explained as if reading Charlie's mind – Cherri had moved into the hotel few days after the battle against heaven had taken place.

"Well, I guess it's just gonna be us then," Charlie said, glancing around at the rest. "So, about yesterday…" she started, but Angel interjected swiftly.

"Just so ya know, Husk and I kept our mouths shut," Angel said.

"I just said Adam was like a lost puppy someone found in the streets," Nifty chimed in with a hint of amusement.

Adam's teeth clenched at the small demon's remark, while Charlie offered a conciliatory smile to her friends. "I just wanted to say we'll address yesterday's events later once we have everyone together, because I'm sure there were hurtful words exchanged and we definitely need to apologize to one another. Remember, friends shouldn't be mean to each other."

"Adam's our friend?" Nifty asked in wonder.

"He can be," Charlie replied, glancing at Adam, who wore a tired yet irritated expression, avoiding eye contact with the group. "But before we can get there, we've got to establish trust," Charlie continued, addressing her friends. "And what better way to do that than by getting to know each other better?"

There was little response from the group, but that didn't discourage Charlie in the slightest. "Alright, let's start by going around and sharing a bit about ourselves. If anyone has questions or wants to speak, just raise your hand so we're not talking over each other."

Nifty shot her hand up.

"Yes, Nifty?"

"Can I go first?" the tiny sinner asked.

Charlie's smile widened with excitement at seeing things starting out well. "Of course!"

"Okay, my name's Nifty," she began.

"Do we really have to say our names?" Angel asked with an eyebrow raised.

"Angel, remember, raise your hand," Charlie gently reminded him, prompting a resigned sigh from Angel.

"You know no one's gonna remember that."

"And I looooove bad boys," Nifty continued before her eyes widened with a lingering lust in Adam's direction. "Are you the baddest of them all?" she asked, causing Adam now to look completely disturbed and glance at Charlie for help.

"Nifty, please don't make Adam uncomfortable," Charlie said to her.

"Should've known better," Husk muttered.

"Well, why don't you go then?" Angel chimed in with a chuckle.

Husk shook his head. "I'll pass."

"Aww, come on, Husk, share something with us," Charlie pleaded before giving a Husk a hopeful look.

Husk crossed his arms over his chest and leaned further back on his couch before he let out a tired sigh. "Fine," he grumbled. "My name is Husk and I have a soft spot for magic shows. My old man used to take me to 'em when I was a kid, back when I was alive."

Everyone waited patiently for him to continue, but Husk simply responded with, "That's all you're gettin' outta me."

"Aww, booo!" Angel let out a bit playfully before he grinned at Husk. "C'mon, Husk, give us more."

Husk eyed Angel for a moment and couldn't suppress a small smile. "Maybe another time," he said.

"Thank you, Husk, that was beautiful," Charlie said before glancing at Adam, but felt she would push him last, so she went over to Vaggie and Angel.

Angel offered by raising one of his hands, making Charlie grin and quickly nod for him to go on. "Well, not gonna lie. I used to love cooking back when I was alive, and after yesterday, I think I might go back to it."

Charlie blinked with surprise.

"So, if anyone has any suggestions on what they want, go ahead and ask. I'll do my best to try making it."

"I think I'll definitely be taking you on that offer," Husk said with a smile.

"Are we going to have our own five-star chef here soon?" Vaggie asked Angel with an amused smile.

Angel chuckled and shrugged. "I'm not sure if I'm that great, but my sister did love my cooking," he responded. "She would always say I've always made the best food she ever had."

"Aww, I didn't know you had a sister," Charlie said.

"Yeah, her name was Molly, and we were actually fraternal twins."

Adam shifted his eyes to the tone of Angel's fur. While he was doing his best to ignore the group, something stired in his mind when he heard Molly's name. Then he quickly recalled a human soul back in heaven that definitely looked similar to Angel and had the name Molly. The realization that Angel, Hell's top porn star, was related to the kindest and best baker in heaven left him in shock.

"You're a twin?" Charlie exclaimed, taken aback. "And you never told me?!"

"Well, now you know," Angel chuckled, then turned to Vaggie. "Looks like it's your turn, Vagatha."

"It's Vaggie," Vaggie corrected as if it was no big deal, since she had been corrected him for a while now whenever Angel would purposely refer to her with a different name.

"You mean, Vaggie," Adam couldn't help but say with a grunt. The urge to correct her was too hard to ignore.

Everyone was confused and turned to Adam, while Vaggie shot him a glare. "Just because you named me doesn't mean you can dictate how my name should be pronounced," she retorted coldly.

Angel blinked in surprise. "Hold on, this fucker named you?"

"And I wish he hadn't," Vaggie admitted. She had told her friends a bit about how she and her sisters were created back in heaven and what her duties were and some other things. Though, she never told them how she received her name because it was too humiliating. "My sisters and I were assigned to him under his command after we passed our final trial. The ceremony involves the Captains naming their warriors."

"I don't fucking get why you hate your name," Adam muttered irritably. "Everyone else loved the names I gave them."

"Maybe because you literally named me after a reproductive organ?" Vaggie replied with annoyance.

Angel's eyes widened. "I fucking knew it!" he exclaimed as if he had just won the lottery.

"You named her after vagina?" Husk turned to Adam with a frown. "Seriously, man?"

"Yah, so fucking what?" Adam retorted defensively, his chin tilting up a bit. "It's a damn great name."

"Is it, though?" Husk questioned, raising an eyebrow. "I don't think you would like someone to name you after dick."

"Uh, some people called me the 'Original Dick' back in heaven, and I fuckin' loved it."

"Of course you did…" Husk muttered, realizing there was no way to change the fallen angel's mind based on what he had just said.

"Well, it's fuckin' better than her original boring as shit name," Adam defended himself. "She was called 667, for fuck's sake."

"667…?" Charlie blinked in confusion.

Angel, no longer amused, turned to Vaggie with a puzzled expression. "What the hell? Your name was 667?"

Vaggie sighed, beginning to explain the system where warrior angels were initially designated numbers before their captains bestowed permanent names upon them.

"That's…really shitty," Angel uttered out. "You guys sound like you were made by a factory."

"If you hated your name so goddamn much, then why the hell haven't you changed it already?" Adam interjected bluntly.

"Good question."

"Because I like the name Vaggie, not Vaggie," Vaggie said firmly. "Now, stop saying it wrong."

"But… it's Vaggie…" Adam argued, stubbornly.

"Adam…" Charlie spoke softly to him, placing a hand on his knee. "As friends, it's important to respect how others wish to be referred to."

"But I worked so fucking hard to name her," he whined. "And she's not even my friend!"

"She's making an effort to be your friend. And I get where you're coming from, but it's important to respect Vaggie's wishes. If she prefers to be called Vaggie, then that's what we should go with."

Adam grumbled to himself, and quickly shoved his annoyance down and looked away silently, forgetting for a second who he almost raised his voice at.

He felt Charlie softly pat his knee, which helped him feel better, even though he still was in a sour mood.

"Stop looking at me like that," Vaggie frowned at Angel, who was observing at her with amusement, who was savoring at the fact he had guessed Vaggie's name to be connected to vagina in some way.

"Alright, I suppose it's my turn," Charlie chimed energetically. "So, I love to draw, although I haven't had much time for it lately. And I absolute adore singing and dancing, something I miss doing with my mom; we used to do it all the time," she trailed off with a wistful smile, which caught Adam's attention, silently stirring memories of how Lilith and he also sang and danced together in their first years of existence.

"So… Dickmaster… you ever fucked Charlie's mom?" Angel dared to ask rather curiously, making Charlie and Adam glance at him, both having a mix of shock and disturbed expressions etched on their faces while Husk sighed.

"Angel, what the hell?!" Vaggie snapped, her voice sharp with disapproval. "For crying out loud, show Charlie some respect."

Angel chuckled at the reaction he received, shrugging nonchalantly. "What? Don't tell me ya guys ain't even a bit curious," he replied.

"Oh, I definitely want to know," Nifty chimed, leaning forward, her expression alight with curiosity, ready for Adam to give out juicy details on his sex life with Charlie's mother.

Charlie was about to tell everyone she didn't feel comfortable to talk about such matter, but Adam spoke up instead.

"Lilith and I never fucked," Adam spat, his tone dripping with offense. "Don't you ever say crap like that again."

"Awww, did the first lady turn you down?" Angel taunted, a smirk playing on his lips.

"What the hell? It wasn't like that between us. She and I were..." Adam's words trailed off, his eyes narrowing with annoyance as he looked down at his lap.

"Were like what?" Charlie quietly asked him, noticing something was bothering Adam.

Adam didn't respond immediately, and he didn't feel like he should say a damn thing, but he blamed the exhaustion when he finally opened his mouth, still avoiding eye contact with everyone. "I dunno... we were made at the same damn time, from the same damn dust. We..." His right claws gripped the armchair tightly. "We ate, played, sang, danced, did everything together..." he grumbled. "For years, it was mostly just me and her. Even though the angels wanted us to pop out more humans together, it never even crossed our minds... And even now the thought of us having sex just doesn't fuckin' sit right."

The room had fallen silent, Adam's gaze dimmed, and he felt the exhaustion he had growing heavier as he continued to cling to the memories, he had with Lilith in their first years of their existence.

He was so angry at the fact he almost had Lilith return fully to his life again… yet he's never going to get her back now.

"You loved her, didn't you?" Charlie asked him quietly.

Adam's expression tightened with emotion, his chest constricting at her question.

"Wait, hold up a sec… you said you guys were made from the same batch of dust, right?" Angel asked Adam, recalling the story told to him by Charlie a few times before; she really enjoyed retelling her mother's origin and the tragedy that happened later. Adam admitting to it just made him connect some dots, but Angel wanted to clarify some things first.

Charlie nodded in response to Angel's question, since Adam didn't bother to respond. "That's what my mom always said," She murmured. "Made to be equals."

"So, what...? You guys were brother and sister or somethin'?" Angel raised an eyebrow, drawing Adam's gaze to him with a hint of confusion in his eyes. "Sounds like, I don't know, if you two weren't getting freaky, and if you were made at the same time from the same source and were close, then… you're twins, well, I guess fraternal twins if you don't look alike, but yeah, still twins."

Adam stared at him, unsure how to take in Angel's explanation.

"Not gonna lie, but that sounds logical," Husk mused.

"And now that I think about it, wasn't Eve whipped up from your rib?" Angel asked Adam. "So, wouldn't that make her your sister too?"

"Not exactly," Vaggie said. "Imen used Adam's ribs as a template and modified it with their magic so Eve would be made up differently as they didn't want her to be Adam's equal like Lilith was."

"I… don't get it…" Angel commented slowly.

"I'm loving this!" Charlie said with glee. "Adam and Angel both have twin sisters, you guys already have so much in common! Isn't that just great?"

Adam and Angel exchanged awkward glances before Adam's face contorted one with disgust – Adam could not be any way be similar to the porn star - which brought a glare from Angel.

"Wait a minute… If… Adam is my mom's twin, then that totally means…" Charlie's eyes widened with sudden realization. For a moment, she couldn't believe it herself, but after Angel's explanation it all made sense, especially at the fact she felt so protective over Adam these past days. A spark of excitement lighting up her face as she turned to Adam. "You're my uncle!" she explained, having the strongest desire now to hug him more than ever. "Adam, we're family!"

Adam stared at her with wide eyes as her words made his stomach drop as bits of a memory flashed in his mind.

"Isn't it wonderful, Adam? We're family," Emily declared, her eyes sparkling.

Adam felt his heart twist just as the next fragments crashed into him.

"Adam is not your brother. He is not your family."

Everything around him felt cold and dark.

"You know very well what he is."

Vaggie wasn't sure what happened.

At first, she watched in dismay as Charlie got all excited over Adam possibly being her uncle. She expected Adam to take the news to his own advantage to win Charlie over more to his side. Instead, Adam turned paler, and he visibly looked visibly hurt, as if Charlie had said something cruel to him. Then he withdrew into himself, avoiding the gaze of those around him as he fell completely silent.

Charlie had grown worried and looked guilty if she had somehow overstepped somehow, especially when Adam rose from his seat and just left the room without a word.
