Chapter 1: The Exchange
Growing up as a child of SAMCRO, especially to one of the First Nine, was not easy for anyone, specifically for a girl.
Being apart of SAMCRO, it was hard to make friends and meet new people.
It was easier to hang out with people from the club, people who understood her and her lifestyle.
She just made it her mission to throw herself into school and be the best she could to get out of her situation.
Unlike many of the other kids in the club, she was a brainiac. That is all she thought about while she was growing up.
She wanted to see the world outside of Charming and the only way to do that was to get good grades so she would be able to leave and get out of California.
That was why her relationship with the club playboy Abel Teller was such a shock to everyone, especially her dad.
If her mom was still alive, it would have been a shock to her too.
She could still remember her dad screaming and yelling that this was not happening, and he would never allow his daughter to be with Abel Teller.
She was the strong silent type, which is different than the other girls in the club, which is why their relationship was such a surprise.
When they got together in high school, it brought her out of the shadows and to the forefront of attention.
No one could believe they were together, especially the guys in the club.
It took a lot for them to work their up to being a normal happy couple, but as they grew up, they were finally able to achieve that achievement.
When she found out that a year into their marriage the love of her life and father of her child cheated on her, she was devastated.
The news broke her.
However, because of how she was raised, Mia grew up strong.
She wasn't like the other Old Ladies who let their men get away with everything.
There was no way she was going to be made a fool of.
It's one of the main reasons that she moved away for school, to college, so she could make a new life for herself and teach Abel a lesson.
When her daughter was born, she made the decision to attend medical school in Oregon.
That way, her family could have Rogue River watch out for them.
However, being the type of person she was, she wanted her daughter to be raised by both parents.
It's the only reason she decided to come back.
"Grace, come on Princess, we are going to be late and your dad's waiting" she called out as she packed up her daughter's bag.
Grace was only six years old and was the epitome of a daddy's girl.
She loved going to the clubhouse and spending time with her dad and the guys.
It wasn't usual for Mia to be excited to get to the clubhouse, but she knew more charters were coming and part of them were her old friends from Rogue River.
It was surprising to Mia when Gracie wasn't bouncing off the walls, and that she was lagging when it was time for them to leave to the clubhouse.
Going through the house, she found her daughter sitting on the bed in her room, holding her SAMCRO teddy bear.
Mia walked in and sat next to her. "What's going on kiddo?" she asked.
"Mom, I don't want to go to daddy's house" Grace replied.
Mia looked at her daughter shocked. That was new. She never acted like that before.
"Why?" she asked, pushing more when her daughter staid quietly, "Grace, what's going on? Your daddy's missing you" she stated.
"But Mama, can we go see Uncle Creed? I miss him a lot" she asked.
Mia sighed, "I know you miss them, but I think they are coming to visit this weekend, so let's try and be happy for your dad's sake" she suggested.
"Okay Mama" she got up and started packing some clothes and toys.
Mia followed her around the room and helped pack her duffle bag.
Grace just picked everything she liked, while Mia made sure to pack her the things that she would really need for the weekend with Abel.
She tilted her daughter's chin up and tapped her nose, "be happy Princess" she teased before leaning over and rubbing noses for their Eskimo kisses.
"I'll try Mama" she replied.
Once they were all packed up with Grace's stuff and Mia's stuff for work, Mia grabbed her daughter's hand and led her out of the house.
"Okay, jump in the car" she instructed her daughter as she put their backs in the passenger seat.
Mia walked around the car and buckled Grace into her car seat.
It only took them 20 minutes to get to the clubhouse.
Abel said to drop her off at the clubhouse so he could take her home when he was done with business.
"Hey babe, I want you to try and have a good time with your dad okay" she said looking through her rearview mirror.
Grace looked up at her mom and nodded.
"Because your Uncle Tommy, Grandpa Jax, Grandma Chloe, and all the guys are going to be waiting for you" she added trying to cheer her up.
Gracie smiled really big.
That got her to smile and cheer her up a little.
It wasn't long before Mia pulled up to the gate.
The prospect, Terry was standing out there guarding the gate, "Hey Terry" she greeted through the window.
Terry smiled down at her and waved at Gracie.
All the guys at the club were obsessed with her daughter. She was quiet literally the SAMCRO Princess.
"Hey Little Miss, how was school? Did you get to the 'T' letter man yet?" he asked.
Grace nodded, "yeah, and I did what you told me. I used you for my example" Gracie exclaimed excitedly.
He gave her a high five through the window. "Atta girl" he praised.
"Go on through Mia" he opened the gate for her.
Mia pulled in and parked next to Chloe's jeep.
She was lucky that her daughter had Jax and Chloe. She wished her daughter would have been able to meet her father and her mother.
Big Jim and Mary would have loved Gracie.
Once she was parked, she helped her daughter out of the car and put her down by the back seat while she grabbed their bags.
Grace held her mom's hand and walked into the club.
Looking ahead, she saw Abel sitting at the bar with Tammy, one of the croweaters all over him.
Mia froze for a second, seeing him with another woman.
"Hi Daddy" Gracie called out squealing when she saw her dad.
Abel turned to his daughter and smiled, removing himself from the croweaters, making his way to his daughter.
Gracie took off, her eyes lit up when she saw her dad, running through the clubhouse, launching herself in his arms.
Abel picked her up and pressed her into his chest.
"Hi Angel, daddy missed you so much this week" he mumbled into her hair as he nuzzled her neck, enjoying the feel of her in his arms.
Kissing her cheek when he pulled aways, keeping her in his arms.
"I missed you too daddy" she wrapped her arms around his neck and cuddled herself against him.
She kissed his cheek and then noticed Tammy standing there glaring at the sight.
"Who are you? Are you daddy's friend? I am Gracie, and this is my mommy" she asked, pointing to Mia who was standing in front of Abel.
Mia couldn't help but gasp and stiffen her posture, trying to school her features but couldn't.
How could she? The whore her husband cheated on her with was standing in front of her.
"She's no one babe. Don't worry about her or about that" Abel replied turning her away from Tammy.
Abel carried her back over to her mom, who was still frozen in her spot.
Mia was stuck in the past. She was relieving everything from her past at that very moment looking at Abel and Tammy.
Shaking her head, she let out a deep breath and met them halfway.
She needed to get away from Tammy before she broke her face. She was lucky that Abel and her daughter were in front of her.
"Hi Mia" he nodded at her.
Mia put on a fake smile for her daughter's sake.
She didn't want to scare her or make her feel bad.
Seeing him there with Tammy all over him really hurt. It brought everything back.
Abel put Grace down, so she went over and stood with her mom, holding her hand.
Mia smiled down at her daughter.
The tension between Mia and Abel was beyond thick, it could be cut with a knife.
Clearing her throat, she greeted Abel.
"Hey Abel, thanks for taking her this weekend on last minute notice" she replied.
He nodded and smiled at his daughter. "Anytime Dollface" he said out of habit.
Mia snapped her head up and met his gaze at her old nickname.
Before she could even say anything, Tammy walked over and draped herself all over Abel.
She smiled and nodded at Mia. "Hi Mia" she greeted.
Mia nodded at her with a fake smile before turning to Abel.
"I packed her some clothes and toys for the weekend. I should be back by Sunday" she tried to ignore Tammy.
"It's no problem" Abel replied.
Mia pulled Grace up into her arms for a hug.
As she was saying her goodbyes, Chloe came in looking for Abel.
"Hi honey, I thought I recognized your car" she greeted Mia with a side hug and kiss to the cheek.
The young doctor smiled and nodded, returning the hug and kiss.
"Hey Chloe, yeah, I had to drop off the Little Princess for the weekend" she informed.
Grace turned from her mom's shoulder. "Hi Grandma" she greeted.
Chloe rubbed her granddaughter's back, "hi honey" she kissed the top of her head.
Turning to Mia, "is everything okay?" she asked, looking between Mia and Abel.
Mia nodded, "yeah, we are all fine. I am covering for Vickie this weekend on trauma call, so I had to drop Gracie off" she replied.
Chloe nodded, "good, I am glad to hear that everything is okay. We are having a family dinner on Sunday. I hope to see you there. Gracie will have fun with the kids, and everyone missed you honey" Chloe said.
Mia smiled and blushed, cuddling her daughter into her chest.
"Ma" Abel waved his mother's invitation off.
Mia loved Chloe and Jax, the guys from the club were her family.
She knew Abel was born into this life.
So was she, but it wasn't what she wanted.
She didn't want to change him, but something needed to change.
It was getting awkward being around everyone after what happened.
"I'll try Chloe" she sighed.
That was the best she could do.
"I'll have to see how my shift goes" she added.
Before anyone could say anything else, Tammy couldn't help but chime in, "I'll be there to help Chloe, don't worry."
Mia tensed and couldn't help but want to get out of there.
She turned and walked away from the group a little, taking a minute, trying to fight back her tears.
"You okay Mama?" Grace asked looking up at her mom.
Mia put on a fake smile and nodded. "I'm okay babe. You go and try to have fun with your dad" Mia said kissing her daughter's cheek.
She set her daughter down and crouched in front of her, "I'll see you in a couple days princess. You have fun with your dad" she kissed Gracie's head before handing over her bag to Abel and walked her over to her dad.
Mia turned towards the car when Gracie left her dad and ran back to her mom.
She picked her up and hugged Gracie on her chest.
Crouching down, she put Grace on her feet, smiling through unshed tears and raised her daughter's forehead, cupping her cheeks, "go be with your dad" she said to her daughter.
"No mama, I don't want you to be sad" she argued.
Mia pulled away from the hug and faced her daughter, 'listen to me princess, your dad and I love you and we'll be okay. I don't want you worrying about that or anything else. I am okay. I promise. Now, I have to go to work, so I want you to go have fun with your dad. For now, go put your stuff in your dad's room" she said.
She stood back up and walked towards Tammy who was at the bar.
"Hey Tammy, listen, I have to go and won't be back until Sunday. But if I find out you went near my daughter, there's not a place on earth you can hide from me" she warned before she grabbed her stuff.
"Are you threatening me?" the slut asked.
Mia chuckled, "no" she shook her head, "that's a promise" she stated as she walked out, glaring at Abel.
Abel ran out after her, calling out her as he went. "Mia! Mia" he followed her all the way to the car.
"Mia, please wait, I have to talk to you" he followed her out.
When she got to her car, she snapped, "what's your deal Abel?" she asked, her arms crossed, leaning against the driver's side of the car.
He looked up at her surprised.
It wasn't the first time she blew up on him. He got nervous around her.
It wasn't the first time he'd been around her alone to talk and he was still nervous. He didn't know how to approach her.
"What are you talking about?" he asked.
Mia scoffed and shook her head, "you don't think I was humiliated the first time? Now I have to face off with that fucking whore. You know what, leave me out of it, worst of all, you brought her around your daughter. Are you fucking insane? Hasn't that fucking skank done enough?" she yelled at him.
He looked down in shame. He did this all on his own.
It was his fault this was all happening.
"I'm sorry Mia. I didn't realize you were coming that early. I didn't do anything with her, she just came up to me" he argued.
She wiped her tears and shook her head.
"It doesn't matter. Look, none of this, matters. All that matters is our daughter. Please just make sure she is happy and taken care of this weekend" Mia cried before getting in the car.
"Wait," Abel put his hand on the car door, holding it open, stepping in between the door and the car.
"I wanted to tell you that Tacoma and Rogue River are coming down this week. Should be here by Sunday and Monday afternoon. If you can come to the dinner, we would love to see you" he informed her.
She staid quiet for a second before looking up at him over her shoulder, "Jordan and Creed coming?" she asked without a second thought.
Abel tensed, giving her a look through narrowed eyes, but nodded in response to her question.
"Why?" he asked all of a sudden.
In the car, she smiled at the jealous tone in his voice. Mia always knew he was possessive and jealous of her.
She couldn't even have a male OBGYN when she was pregnant because he was a caveman.
Laughing, she couldn't help but reply, "if I have to deal with Tammy and having that fucking whore in my face, then you can tolerate Creed and Jordan for the weekend" she teased.
Abel glared, narrowing his gaze at her, "what's the deal with you and Creed anyway?" he asked.
He knew there was something going on between his Old Lady and Creed, he just never understood the specifics.
When Mia went away to school and got through her residency, Creed was one of the main guys looking out for her and they got close, or that was what Abel got in report when she came back.
Rogue River and the Nomads weren't specific when they told Abel that Mia and Creed got close.
Mia just smiled at him. She knew that her relationship with Creed was killing him.
"I'll see you Sunday Abel" she said turning on the car.
"See you Sunday Dollface" he shut the car door and pounding the hood, watching in place as she took off.
Abel tilted his head back to ask for patience. She knew exactly what she was doing with Creed.
He was never going to be okay with their relationship and she knew it.
He also knew that he had no reason to feel jealous, but he couldn't help it. They were really close.
He also knew that he had no room to tell her anything when he was parading Tammy around.
Everyone told him to get rid of her when the whole fiasco went on, but he was more worried about Mia and the baby.
Abel didn't even think about getting rid of Tammy or banning her from the club. He was now regretting that decision.
He really needed to get rid of her.
Letting out a deep breath to calm himself and change his mind set before walking back into the clubhouse.
When Mia left the clubhouse, she made her way to the hospital and straight to work.
Mia had a busy couple of days ahead of her.
After she parked and walked through the lobby to the ER, the waiting room was beyond packed.
Pushing past people, she made her way to the trauma locker room. Opening her locker, changing her clothes, she put on some scrubs.
"Morning Callie" she greeted the charge nurse.
"Morning Dr. Teller" she handed Mia her messages.
"How was your day, Callie?" Mia asked as she went over the messages.
"Not bad thanks. Leah is waiting for you in the OR office" she replied.
Mia nodded and waved goodbye as she made her way through the hospital, but to the OR's, to the office and on-call room where everyone hung out.
"Mia, you have no idea how happy I am to see you" Leah sagged at her desk.
Mia laughed as she sat down and made herself comfortable.
Grabbing her files and reports, she started looking them over as Leah gave her report about what happened during the day.
Mia could see it when she walked in that they were beyond crazy busy.
The dayshift was itching to leave.
After giving the report, Leah noticed that Mia was really quiet, just taking it all in, going over charts.
She just took report, kept her head in the chart.
"What's going on with you?" she asked.
She ran her hands down her face.
"When I dropped Gracie off at the clubhouse, that skank was hanging all over Abel" she vented.
Leah nodded in understanding. The MC lifestyle was hard on the families most of all.
The wives and kids got hurt more than anyone.
"You are the wife. You're his Old Lady. You get the respect, not her" Leah reassured.
Mia shook her head, "it's whatever, I just need a good bloody trauma to get my mind off it" she replied.
Leah laughed and gave her friend a hug. "Just because the exchange didn't go well, doesn't mean that the weekend won't be fine" she tried to reassure her.
"I know, just, seeing him with her today, it brought everything back" Mia held her head in her hands.
Leah wrapped her arm around Mia, giving her a reassuring hug, "Mia, you need to relax and try not to think about this. Things are going to work out with Abel, you just need to have patience" she replied.
Mia smiled and wiped her tears, "Thanks Sissy, go home. I'll see you Sunday" she waved her off.
With the way the ER was going, that was going to be no problem.
Abel on the other hand was super excited to spend the weekend with his daughter.
He loved being with his family. He wanted them to be together for some bonding time.
He sat with Grace in the kitchen at the clubhouse before dinner, praying that the tension between him and Mia was not noticed or passed down to Grace.
He didn't want her to hurt any more than necessary.
Not being home with her and Mia was hard enough.
It was hard for Abel being President of an MC and balancing his family life.
He was young and stupid when he started the take over from his dad. That was why Jax stayed on to help.
"Okay Angel, how about some spaghetti for dinner?" Abel asked.
He could tell that she was upset about something.
Before she could say anything, Tammy jumped in. "I can whip up some pasta for you babe" she said.
Abel watched his daughter the whole time Tammy was talking, and it killed him. She withdrew and looked down at the table.
Abel got up and dragged her out of earshot, away from her daughter and out of the kitchen.
"Oww Abel" she whined, rubbing her arm, pulling away from him.
He was seething. Beyond pissed off at how his daughter was being treated.
"When I am with my daughter or my family, you disappear. You get involved in my family life again, my Old Lady is going to be the least of your problems. You get me?" he hissed.
She just huffed, "yeah, okay, fine" she stomped away in a tizzy.
Tammy just wanted the attention.
Abel let out a breath as he watched her walk away. He ran a hand down his face, trying to get his emotions in check.
He needed to calm down before he went back to his daughter.
Abel walked into the kitchen and leant over to kiss the top of his daughter's head.
"Are you okay daddy?" she looked up from his common room table.
She made herself comfortable by pulling out her coloring book and supplies.
"Don't worry baby, I'll make some mac and cheese and we can eat together. I am okay, don't worry" he kissed her temple again before getting to work.
Gracie smiled a sad smile and nodded, "okay daddy" she replied.
Abel kissed her head from the side, "I love you baby girl" he said.
"I love you too daddy" she smiled at him before going back to her coloring.
Abel wasn't that much of a cook, but he could at least make some pasta.
He found some penne pasta noodles and placed them in boiling water. He found some cheese to add to the pasta when they were done.
He wanted to change things up from ordering pizza or going to his moms.
"You want some garlic bread too? I found some garlic toast I can pop in the toaster" he called out, his back to her.
"Sure daddy. Sounds good" Grace answered without looking up from her coloring book.
Abel smiled in reply. She was such an easy kid, she mainly kept herself occupied.
He smiled at his princess as she went back to her books with no problem.
He really did feel back for the situation he put them in, especially his little girl.
Mia told him that cheating was a deal breaker for her.
She put up with a lot from him. He didn't blame her at all for leaving and starting a professional career.
He was forever grateful that she came back and didn't keep his daughter from him. He just felt bad for his baby.
Abel wanted his family to get back together.
Shaking his head, Abel turned back to the food.
Once the pasta was done, he mixed it with the cheese and plated it.
He scooped enough for Gracie and himself with some garlic bread.
Abel put her plate in front of Grace as he sat put his own plate next to her.
"Be careful, it's hot. Blow on it and wait a few minutes" he warned pouring them some water.
Gracie nodded and moved her coloring books to the side.
She grabbed a napkin and put it on her lap. "Daddy, can I have some juice?" she asked.
Abel smiled, "of course baby" he got up and poured her a cup of apple juice.
Before he got back to the table, Tommy walked into the kitchen.
He smiled when he saw his niece at the table. "Hey Monkey" he greeted with a kiss to the top of her head.
"Hi Uncle Tommy" she waved, "do you want some pasta? Daddy made it" she asked.
Tommy sat down next to his favorite niece and kissed her cheek.
"No, thanks baby girl, what's going on Monkey? You partying with us for the weekend?" he asked.
Gracie nodded enthusiastically as she accepted the juice from Abel.
"Mama had to work" she said.
Abel huffed out a breath and sat next to his daughter. "Yeah, Mia's on-call for trauma this weekend, covering for a friend. I have my princess with me until Sunday" Abel explained.
Tommy nodded in understanding.
"What about Tammy?" he questioned.
Abel glared at his brother. "Don't bring her up. We already had a mishap," he warned nodding his head towards Gracie.
He already messed up. He didn't want to add to his daughter or Mia's pain.
Tommy helped his niece cool down her food as he laughed at his brother.
"Let me taste Monkey" he tested a bit of her food to see if was okay to eat.
"Dig in Monkey, it's good" he said.
Gracie nodded and started blowing on her pasta as she started eating and helping herself to some garlic bread and juice.
Tommy noticed that during the meal, Grace was quieter than usual. Typically, she would be talking their ear off about school, and her friends.
He met his brother's gaze over his niece's head. "You okay Monkey?" he asked Grace.
She just shrugged and went back to eating.
Abel couldn't help but smile and think of how much his daughter was like her mom.
Mia acted the same way.
She had the same look on her face when he pissed her off.
Tommy had the same thought, "you're just like your mom, you know that?" he teased his niece ruffling her hair.
She smiled at her uncle. "That's what mama says. She says I'm her mini-me" she replied.
Tommy laughed and nodded.
"That is so seriously true, it's not even funny" Tommy agreed.
Abel shook his head at his brother's antics. He was such a kid at heart. He leant over and rested his owns on the table.
"Come on baby. Tell me what's wrong. I can't help you if you don't tell me what's going on" Abel pushed his daughter.
Grace looked up at her dad and stopped eating. "Daddy, who was that lady? She made mama cry and made her sad. We need you with us daddy, not your friend" she cried, tears rolling down her cheeks.
"When are you coming home?" she asked before getting up and running off to his old room.
Tommy looked at his brother shocked.
Something must have happened because Grace never acted like that.
"What the hell was that about? She was bawling her eyes out. What did you do?" he asked his brother.
Abel sighed and wiped a hand over his face.
"It was an accident honestly. Mia said when it comes to me or the club, Grace has been withdrawn and moody. I think it's because of Mia and me. Then today, when they got there, I was with Tammy" he said, trying to explain to his brother what happened.
Tommy leant over so he was closer to his brother. "You are a fucking idiot man. Are you stupid? Those two girls are the best things that ever happened to you. Why were you with that whore? Why the hell would you be around Tammy at all?" he asked.
He was pissed at his older brother. Abel really was the stupidest person ever when it came to relationships.
Abel held his head in his hands. It was really his fault. He messed up and made a mess of his family life, especially his daughter.
Abel nodded, "I know man. I messed up big today. The look on Mia's face when she saw me with Tammy was devastating. She just froze and then she started crying. How am I supposed to deal with that?" he explained what went on earlier.
The younger Teller shook his head, "you are such an asshole. Seriously, you are so stupid when it comes to women" he laughed.
"I can only imagine how the exchange between Mia and Tammy went. That is horrible of you to put her in that situation. You need to make this right Abel" Tommy suggested to his brother.
Abel knew that Tommy was right. He knew what he had to do.
