Jackson is my original character, but I don't own CSI.

Sorry this is a bit late, but I wanted to write a sequel to You May Remember Me. I wondered what Riley would think of Jackson's text. And I still may eventually write a story where they meet again. Anyway, hope you enjoy... And pretty please review!

Riley sighed quietly as she arrived at her house. It was a long day - actually, a long week. But she pushed through it, trying not to think about what day it was. She plopped her purse down on the couch and sat down. All she wanted to do was hibernate and forget about work when her cell phone chimed.

"Ugh," Riley groaned as she pulled her phone from her back pocket. Among the sale alerts from her favorite store and various texts from work and family, she saw a text marked Spam. Thinking it was another advertisement, she rolled her eyes and hit "view".

The words "you may remember me" stared back at her. She thought about deleting the message, but clicked on it. She wondered who it was - an old classmate or family member she'd lost touch with. But when she read the words, her heart dropped.

You may remember me.

I wish I could remember you.

I'm 15 now...I guess you know that.

Tears came to Riley's eyes as she realized who sent the text. The son she gave up, the child she hadn't seen in 12 years. She smiled sadly when she realized she couldn't call him her child anymore. He hadn't been her child for a long time.

Sighing softly, she continued reading.

Dad's okay.

That brought a soft smile to Riley's face. She always knew Greg would be a good father. She had to smile when she read about Greg's taking his grandfather's car. A part of her couldn't believe she had a child that was nearly old enough to drive.

I've got a little sister.

Riley couldn't help but smile reading about Jackson and his sister. He clearly loves his sibling.

Anyway, she looks a little like me too. Mom...

A tear fell down Riley's cheek and she couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness. She knew Morgan was more of a mother to Jackson than she'd ever been. As much as she wished she could have been a mother to Jackson and she and Greg could have raised him together, she knew Jackson had a family that loved him very much. She had to admit she was proud of the young man Jackson was, even if she couldn't take any credit for it.

I don't know why I'm writing this or even if I'm going to send it. I guess... I guess I just wanted you to know that I'm OK. You don't have to write back. I just wanted to...I don't know, get in touch. I'm good.

The words on the phone blurred as more tears formed in Riley's eyes. She always had Jackson in her mind and heart. In the back of her mind, she wondered if Jackson would ever try to find her. Now, reading his words and knowing he really was okay, she felt at peace. Even though she couldn't really call him her son, Riley still loved him very much.

You don't have to worry about me. I hope you're OK. And if you want to text me back, I won't be mad.

Riley read the last words in the text. She gently kissed her finger and marked the message as Not Spam. She cried softly as she read the message. She thought about when she left Jackson with Greg and several times before that. This person that she didn't know how to be a mother to seemed so grown up. He was loved and doing well, and that's all she ever wanted for him. She knew he was really good. That's all that really matters.

She cried softly as she read over the message again. As much as she missed him, she was proud of her son and knew he was really, really good.

Wiping away tears, Riley added Jackson's number to her phone. She didn't know if she would text him back, but she felt like this was a way to keep him close. She knew he was safe, happy and loved. No matter how she felt, he was more important.

"Happy birthday, Jackson," Riley whispered as she held her phone close. She smiled softly, knowing her son was really okay.

The End
