Chapter 3. Hunt.
"Its six o clock!" Jack groaned, being dragged outside by Damian.
"Good time for some quick fire practice!" Damian responded.
"We already did that last night."
"No, you burned everything and made things explode. We couldn't go further cause you raised the layer and now that its low, we can practice."
"Cant this wait?"
"We gotta hunt tonight so no!"
"Hunt?" He looked at Damian quizzically.
"Yeah. Told you you'd need to eat another today remember?"
"Right…" With unease, he remembered what Damain said about eating.
"Alright," He stopped them at the front of the hospital.
Jack looked around and noticed they were right outside the main lobby. "Here? Really?"
"This is where it's the lowest, so yeah. Now reach out your hand."
"Ok." He closed his eyes and started to change while reaching out his left hand.
"What are you doing?"
"Reaching out like you said."
"No, why are you changing?"
Jack looked at Damian, confused. "What do you mean?"
"I never told you to transform."
"But arent we…doing demon practice?"
"Remember what I said about you changing to get access to your full powers?"
"Yeah?"
"Thats why I dont want you changing right now. Practicing fire in your weaker form will lead to less of an…inferno."
"That…makes sense, Ill change back." He reverted back.
"You're getting quick with that though."
"Hrm…Now what?"
"Arm out," Jack did so, "Lets start small. Envision a candle in your palm."
"A candle?"
"Yeah, just a small soft candle flame, right in your palm.
"Hmmm," He envisioned as such, a gentle fire, one that youd see melting the wax of a candle, but instead he saw it in his palm, not burning just softly resting there.
"Good good, now lets make it bigger."
"Bigger?"
"Turn that candle into a small flame, like you're holding a torch, but not a raging tourch, more like one that some runner is carrying in the olympics."
"Hm…." Instead of a torch he imagined a warm campfire with soft flickers of flame and cracklins of wood. He felt hs palm heat up, envisioning holding such a campfire. Opening his eyes he saw the demonic fires kindling in his hand. "Wow!"
"Nice!" Damian complimented, "And its in control."
"Yeah…" Jack said in a sense of awe. The sight of him holding fire, especially demonic fire, would normally unease him but the way it was right now was soothing to say the least.
"Now blow it."
"What?"
"Blow it, yknow like a flamethrower."
"Blow it!?" Looking back at the calming flames, the thought of turning into a fiery stream was unsettling. "But…its so calm."
"Oh don't get sentimental."
"Its like a little campfire," He awed.
Damian sighed. "...Hm!? Look out!"
"Huh?"
"Monster!"
"W-where!?" Jack feverishly looked around.
"Above! its closing in, quick, fire!"
"Ah!" On impulse he blew the flames upward, a soft yet hot stream cascading in that direction. "Did I get it!?" He looked around and saw nothing. "Where-?"
"Not bad but those flames were pretty soft dude."
"...What?" Confused, he looked at Damian.
"I'll give you the benefit of doubt and say its cause your in your mortal form."
"...Damian," He eyed him suspiciously, "where's the monster?"
"What monster?"
"You just said there was a monster."
"Oh, I lied," Damian smirked.
"..." Jack took a deep breath, "Ok. I'm going back to bed."
"Wait we still have-"
"Bed!" Jack glared.
"Ok ok, damn."
Few hours later.
Jack looked at his math homework on his hospital desk, taping the pencil on the top. "Hmmm," With a hum, he wrote down his answer.
"Ehhh," Damian spoke with scrutiny.
Taking a quick glance at Damian, Jack flipped the pencil around and erased it. Taking some time to think he wrote something else.
"Mmmm."
Jack sighed and erased again, taking to rethink his answer. "...Oh!" He wrote a new answer.
"Errr,"
"Ok," Annoyed, he dropped his pencil and raised his arm, "I can't work like this."
"Hey, I'm just trying to help you."
"Help me? How is scrutinizing what I write with your hums and ers, helping me?"
"Its not my fault your writing the wrong answer."
"How bout instead of huffing you actually tell me what I'm doing wrong?"
"I could…but on one condition," He smirked.
"What is it?" Jack raised his brow.
"Once our hunt is done, we go somewhere before coming back here."
"Where?"
"Movie theater."
"What?"
"There's this movie I wanna see that's playing late tonight."
"Damian, I can't just go to a movie theater at night, I dont have the money for one, two, I'm supposed to be an injured jackal remember?"
"Who said anyones gonna see you? We're gonna sneak in through the Lower layer."
"What!? Are you crazy!?"
"Its not like anyone will see us. And before you say security, we'll stay in the Layer so, problem solved."
"Not solved! I'm not just gonna sneak into a theater!"
"Oh dont be such a goody two shoes, no one's gonna know."
"Its the principle, Damian, so not happening!" He put his foot down and continued with his homework.
"Ok…"
Jack wrote down his answere for the next question.
"Oof."
"Hrm," He ignored Damian and kept writing.
"Aie…ouch…ooh…eeh…thats bad…oh boy."
"HRRRRM!" He kept going but felt his blood pressure increase.
"Double oof…that one was actually good….that one however-"
He snapped. "Alright! Alright, fine! We'll go!" He slumped back in frustrated defeat. "Just….tell me what I did wrong?"
"Ok!" Damian took control and held the pencil, "So first of all on this one, while you did the division right, you forgot about the exponent here."
"I did?" Jack leaned in.
"Yeah, when you divide with an exponent you gotta do it like this," He wrote down the process, teaching Jack math.
Jack pushed his cart to the side, having finished lunch, laying back with a sigh.
*GRRRRRPLE*
He grunted and felt his rumbly stomach. "Hmmm."
"Still hungry aint ya?" Damian surmised.
"Yeah…I dont know why, I ate everything and got a large portion."
"Its soul hunger. The sustenance from the last soul has run out so we gotta get a new one to fill ya."
"How does that work again?"
"Y'see you drain the nutrients and process normal food much faster because of your mutated body, the nutrients from soul's is not only higher in comparison but its much more filling. It's like a compact meal."
"But I can still eat afterwards."
"Yeah, and you can still eat chips after a burger. It's not like it makes you stuffed."
"Guess that makes sense."
*Grrrrgle*
Jack rubbed his stomach with some discomfort.
"Wanna go sneak some food from the kitchen?" Damian suggested.
"Wh- No! I'm not stealing food!" Jack berated.
"It's fine, we're not gonna take much and they aint gonna notice, besides it'll help hold you over."
"I'll be fine!"
"We can just hop in the lower layer before your nurse comes and make a sandwich or five, no problem."
"Damion, I'm not stealing food!" Jack said stubbornly.
"...Ok. Your agony, not mine."
With a roll of his eyes, Jack grabbed his backpack. "I need to do my English."
"Speaking off….nah. It's too soon."
"What is?"
"Teaching you verbal spells."
"Verbal spells?" He looked at Damian with some intrigue.
"Yeah, but its a too early for that, you still need to work on your fire and we haven't seen all your powers."
"All my powers? You mean you don't know?"
"Why would I? I may have fused with you and caused your mutation but I don't know all the changes that happened and all you gained. What we know so far besides fire and claws, is those red hairs that extend like blades, you dug them deep into that Hopper."
"I don't know how I did that. You think…those black streaks under my eyes could be something?"
"Maybe, heck your eyes could do something too too, who knows. We'll experiment tonight during our hunt."
"Hm," Jack thought about it and got admittedly curious, "ok, but let's be cautious."
"No worries, like last time, I'll take charge."
"I still don't like this."
"Well it's either that or-"
"Or my friends, I get it." He rubbed his stomach.
"The chance to sneak to the kitchen is still there, might wanna do it now before you get visitors."
"I'll be fine." Jack said, grabbing his pencil.
"Ok….By the way you missed a comma there."
"Oh, thanks."
"Passed English too," Damian smirked.
"Are you a demon scholar?"
"Got straight A's."
"No way," Jack said in disbelief.
"It's true. Even got an A in Latin."
"I don't know whether to be surprised you had Latin, or that you got an A in it."
Few hours later
"Hmmm," Jack was trying to ignore his stomach's turmoil while watching tv. It grumbled and growled not like it was starving but like it missed breakfast and only had a snack for lunch. Looking at the clock, it was nearly four pm and they decided to head out at ten when things were less busy. Six hours, he thought he could make it but it wasn't gonna be comfy. A knock came at the door. "Who is it?"
"Spam and Vanexa!" Spam announced.
"Come in."
The fox and cat duo walked in. "Hey!" Spam waved.
"How are you feeling?" Vanexa asked.
"Better, there's less pain," Jack smiled, "Where's Zil and Kayla?"
"They had some volunteer work they promised to help with."
"Speaking of, you finish any homework?" Spam asked.
"Yeah," Jack grabbed his backpack and pulled out a folder, "here."
"Did you need help with the math?"
"Uh no, I think I got it, your notes were really good," He chuckled nervously, glancing at Damian.
Vanexa took the folder. "Let me see…" She looked at his math work, carefully reading it, "...Huh."
"Something wrong?"
"Opposite actually. I'm surprised you got all this right."
"Thanks, I think. Any more work you needed to drop off?"
"Nope!" Spam smiled, taking out a board game from his backpack, "I brought a board game!" As he pulled it out two chocolate bar fell out.
Once Jack saw it his hunger had kicked in, his stomach grumbling which the cat and fox heard, making him blush. "Uh..sorry."
"Hungry?"
"We could get you something from the cafeteria," Vanexa offered.
"N-no thats fine," Jack replied. He didn't want to rack up the hospital bill and give his mom a heart attack, but he couldn't deny the discomfort in his belly and seeing Spam now eat a candy bar only made it worse. He glanced at the clock, still about six hours before their hunt. "Hrmmmm."
"Something wrong?"
"Uh well….Its just….The doctor recommended me…" He thought quick, "to take a shower around this time."
"Really?" Spam leaned in, taking a sniff, "You don't smell bad."
"Uh yeah and I wanna keep it that way…But you two just got here so-"
"No its fine, we dont mind waiting a bit. Visiting hours ends at eight, right?" He looked at Vanexa.
"Right," Vanexa nodded.
Taking a seat at the couch, he looked to Jack, "So go ahead, will be right here when you get out,"
"You sure?" Jack said with some guilt, "Its gonna take me a bit, like half an hour."
"Its fine," Vanexa confirmed, sitting next to Spam, "We're patient mammals."
"..." he smiled, "Ill be quick." Shuffling out of his bed, he grabbed his walker and a pair of hospital clothing that was left out for him along with a wash back for his cast and went to the bathroom.
Once inside, Damian spoke in Jack's ear so as not to be heard outside. "Didn't you shower this morning?"
"Yeah…" Jack sighed, sitting down and taking off his leg cast.
"...You're going to get a snack aint ya?" Damian smirked.
Jack furrowed his brow and groaned in defeat. "Just a burger…or two."
"Or five."
"Shush," He turned on the shower, "Ok, lets go."
"Going," Damian shifted them to the lower layer, "The dips low, wanna bust through the floor?"
"Why do you always wanna break through things?" Jack asked while exiting.
"Quickest way is the best….way."
"Whyd you trial," Looking away from Damian and looking forward he caught a sight he didn't expect to see in a million years, "off…" Right infront of him, Spam was blushing heavily with a bashful look while Vanexa was leaning in close to him, smiling seductively and rubbing a hand on his thighs and saying something to him. "What are they…?" He trailed off, having never seen Vanexa smile before, especially like this, adding to that was the Spam's bashful sly look which soon turned sultry, coming closer to the purple cat, responding to her and bringing his hand up her leg. Jack could feel his jaw dropping at what he was watching, it nearly latching off when Spam's lips met Vanexa's.
"Oh my!" Damian smiled mischievously.
Vanexa leaned in, heating up the kiss, running her hand under his shirt and scraping her fingers through the fur of his belly. Spam's hand went up further, holding onto her rear with a firm grip, their tails coming and twisting together.
"Holy….shit." Jack said in complete shock.
"Think theyre gonna fuck?" Damain asked, nonchalantly.
"Damian!" He shot a piercing look at his demon arm.
"Wanna hear? I can make a sound path so we're not seen."
"No! Are you crazy!?"
"Nope, just curious…Oh their tonguing."
"Huh," He looked forward and saw that they were in fact wrestling tongues, keeping their mouths close but separate, Vanexa getting more handsy and tilting back with Spam's hands reaching into her pants, undoing them. Jack felt red in the face and looked away, "Lets go!" He rushed to the door.
"Wait wait wait, I wanna see where this leads!" Damian tried to pull back.
"Damian!" Jack yanked him out.
"Aww."
Jack stood in front of the door, processing what he just saw. "...Spam…and Vanexa…"
"Laying in a bed, F-U-C-" Damian started to sing before Jack squeezed his mouth shut.
"Stop it."
Damian reappeared his mouth on his arm, "Why you so shocked about this?"
"Its….well…its…Spam and Vanexa!"
"And?...wait…did you…not know?"
"No! I didnt know at all…I just…can't believe they're….together," He said in disbelief.
"Is it really that odd?"
"You dont know them like I do, but it's really just…off."
"Well apparently you don't know them that well either since you didnt know they were dating and currently making the couch wet."
"Please stop," He deadpanned.
"Might wanna sneak some Lysol on the way back."
Jack opened his mouth in an attempt to rebuttal, or showcase his annoyance but couldn't as that was a good idea considering.
Jack rode the elevator back up to his floor, making sure his mouth was clean, holding some wipes and going back to his room. On the way he noticed some of the doctors and nurses looking concerned at their desks.
"Hm." Jack hummed.
"What?" Damain responded.
"The doctors, they all looked worried about something."
"Oh yeah? Wanna listen in?"
"Its really none of my business."
"Making a sound path," Damian didn't listen and just drew a red circle before them.
"Damian…" Jack grunted.
With a press on the center, the circle expanded and surrounded them and sound was coming in. "There."
"-urth one isn't it?" One of the nurses said.
"Yes. Same thing as the others," Another sighed.
"This is becoming an issue."
"It hasn't gotten that bad yet."
"The first one hasn't even woken up yet and it's been at least three months," She slouched.
"That's true," The other nurse sighed, "it is a concern."
"What are they talking about?" Jack asked.
"Let's take a look," Damain pulled him towards them.
"Hey!"
Damian came around to look at the screen, "Hmm…"
"...Damian, this is a violation of privacy!"
"Huh…"
"Are you listening!?"
"This is…hm…" The demonic arm looking at the screen in intrique
"What?"
"Weird…"
"What?" Jack questioned, getting curious himself.
"Yknow you could just peak over."
"Im not gonna look at someone else's file."
"Ok, but you're missing out on something weird…maybe supernaturally weird."
"Supernaturally?"
"Maybe."
"...Ok, just a peek," He walked around and looked at the computer. What he saw was the nurse typing up a report for a young dog that was around his age being recently admitted. The reason he was in was cause of a sudden collapse, having been found on the floor of his room unresponsive. "Oh man…hope hes ok."
"Vitals seem to be normal," Damian stated, "got some weight to him too."
"Don't be nosy."
"He seems to mumble in his sleep and they find nothing wrong with him and dont know why hes not waking."
"Whats supernatural about this?"
"I said maybe supernatural, but isn't it weird that they can't find anything wrong thats causing his coma?"
"Well…yeah but they just got him, so there's still some testing to be done."
"True but…what bothers me is this part," Damain grabbed the mouse and scrolled up on the report, "Look," He pointed at a section.
"The patient tends to mumble but what he does its incoherent and non understandable," Jack read, "Ok so?"
"It also says the other three are doing the same thing."
"Really?"
"Yeah, see?"
"Ok…that is weird," Jack admited.
"Wanna check it out?"
"Why?"
"Could be something supernatural."
"You think so?"
"Seems like it."
"Well…" Jack was unsure, "could just be something else."
"Like what?"
"Like a sickness?"
"Uh huh…some sickness huh," Damain stated in sarcasm.
"There's only four affected, so it's not like it's some pandemic," Jack moved from the screen, everything on it going back to its original position, "let's leave it alone. Besides, I'm supposed to be getting out the shower soon."
"Ok…Think theyre fucking?" With a smirk, Damain was mentioning Spam and Vanexa.
Jack blushed at that notion, "I…hope not…"
Jack exited the restroom, spotting the cat and fox watching something on Spam's phone, turning their attention to the Jackal.
"All washed up?" Spam asked.
"Uh, yeah…" Jack answered, observing them, noticing how close Vanexa was to him and how their tails were touching, something he'd pay no mind usually but after what he saw he HAD to.
"Something wrong?" Vanexa asked.
"N-no, im fine!" He chuckled nervously, moving to his bed.
Spam pulled out a board game from his backpack. "I brought monopoly, wanna play?"
"Sure!" Jack moved his table over.
Damian came to his ear and whispered. "Try and ask about their relationship."
"What!?" Jack exclaimed in a low voice.
"What?" Spam asked, setting up the board.
"N-nothing! Can I get the top hat?"
"Uh, Vanexa usually gets the hat."
"I don't mind him using it," Vanexa commented.
"How generous of you," He smiled.
"Hm," She looked away with annoyance, or atleast what appeared to be annoyance.
The Jackal could've sworn he saw the end of her lip curl up a bit. Trying not to stare, he went back to the board and took his piece. It started out fine, but Jack was a tad absent minded during it, the twos banter and comments toward each other having a new meaning to him, almost seeming secretly flirty.
'When did they start dating? Why? Why is it a secret? What made this happen?' Jack couldn't help but think, having to be snapped out of it a few times. He had such burning questions, but no answers.
Some time later
After a few games of monopoly, the fox cat duo left right after Jack's dinner came in, bidding goodbye with Damain asking an inappropriate question about them doing a quickie, which earned him a punch. Nighttime soon came and it was time.
Jack took a sigh. "..."
"Nervous?" Damian asked.
"I guess…I really don't wanna do this."
"It's either this or-"
"Eating my friends, I know, I know."
"Let's get going then!" Damain rushed, throwing the covers off and unlatching the sleeve.
"I'm going, jeez can't you give me a minute!" Jack chastised with annoyance.
"The sooner the better! There's a rift close by too!"
"A rift?"
"Told you about them already, now c'mon!"
"Alright alright!" Jack eventually got up, taking off his cast and gown.
He got the same pair of clothing as last time and let Damian lead to where the rift was. It wasn't far, a few blocks at best to the nearby parks. They were in the lower layer so Damian just punched open the gate.
"Really?" Jack side eyed.
"What?" The demonic arm said nonchalantly.
With a sigh, he moved forward. "Do you always have to punch things?"
"Yep! Quickest way is the best!"
"Can only imagine what you're like in hell," Once he uttered that he realised something, Damian is a part of him now so he can't necessarily return to hell, "That reminds me…don't you…have family back home?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Well…you can't…see them now…I just realized that."
"Eh, not like they'll miss me."
"Why would you think that?" Jack said, worried and concerned in his voice.
"Just do."
"I think we sh-"
"There's our target," Damain cut him off and pointed forward.
"Huh?" Looking forward, he saw a red crack in the air. It was about fifteen feet long and zig zagged like lightning with small weak sparks emanating from it.
"Alright, lets call our prey!"
"Ok…but were talking about you family later."
"Yeah yeah, now turn demon," He changed himself while requesting.
Jack took a deep breath and changed himself. "There."
"You're getting quicker with that, good."
"Yeah…" He didn't really take that as a compliment.
"Alright, so in order to call us a Demon Beast, we need to bait it through the rift."
"How do we do that?"
"Easy, we raise our energy."
"Raise our energy?"
"Yeah, like dragon ball, we just gotta raise our ki, but instead of ki we raise demon energy. Like visualize that demon energy inside you rising up and powering up."
"So just…yell and charge up?"
"Pretty much…y'know except the yelling…I mean unless you want to."
"Uh, no." Jack closed his eyes and visualized what Damain said, "Hmmmm." Imaging a blood red power inside of him, he tried to rise that, thinking of that aura they get in that anime. The results came with a tingle in his body, something slowly surging through him. He kept the surge going, a thin red ambiance surrounded his body.
"Good good, keep it up!" The red crack was starting to spark and enlarge. "Little more…"
"Mmmm." Jack scrunched his face, his body admittedly feeling weird with what was pulsing through him.
"Ok…. you can stop now!"
"Phew," He slouched and relaxed. Once he looked forward, he nearly jumped. "Whoa!" The opening grew three times as big and began to widen.
"Get ready, here it comes!"
Jack raised his fist and nervously got into a boxer stance.
Emerging from the crack was a long light green scaly arm with short raged claws. It stomped on the ground and the body that it was attached to was pulled out. The face was first, having two large eyes, both round with black slit like pupils, one large eye on the top and one on the bottom, below its chin. Its mouth was arrow shaped, curving on the sides, no lips to cover its jagged pure white teeth and red gums. Its neck was short but its body was long, slithering out the hole like a snake, having two arms to pull but no legs to push, its lower body scales moving and twisting to support movement. Along its back were spines of bone, all straight and going right down the middle. Its bottom eye looked at Jack and its slit minimized as if focusing on the mutated demon. "SCRAAAAALG!" It roared and dived in towards the jackal, sliding on its belly.
"AH!" Jack screamed and jumped high above it before impact.
"Too high there Jacko," Damian commented, "we lost a chance to counter."
"Im not use to this!" Jack argued, trying to land on his feet, but nearly tripping. The monster had made a u-turn and was rushing at him, using its arm to speed up.
"Jump to the side this time and blow some flames from your left!"
"O-ok!" He was unsure but did what Damian said, jumping to the side, having it slide past, aiming out his left arm and shooting out a stream of fire. It screamed with the fire raking its scales. It did a quick turn and stomped at Jack. "Ah! Whoa!" He stepped back from each stomp, trying not to trip.
"Go under!"
"Under?" Looking forward he saw a path forward right underneath its belly. "Under!" Once it raised its foot to step again, he ran forward to its underside. Its bottom eye followed and tilted down, that was his chance. Scaping to a stop, he turned and thrusted his fist right in there. It squealed and the force of it pulled its head back.
"Uppercut!"
"Rrragh!" With a quick crouch, he leapt and dug his left fist into the beast's chest. There was a loud sound of bones breaking on contact, the creature arching back with blood expelling out its mouth.
"Nice, but why didn't you punch with me?"
"I…just went with it, sorry," Jack said, feeling a bit dumb for not using his demonic arm.
Groaning, the beast moved to rise with struggle. Damain snapped Jack back into. "It's getting back up! Fists at the ready!"
"Ok!" Jack brought up his fist like a boxer. The adrenaline was rising and he honestly felt a bit excited. Having never been in a fight, nor really having the strength or physique of a fighter, so the fact that he knocked that thing over gave him a bit of rush.
The creature had managed to rise, its bottom eye red and pushed in, leaned itself back and thrusted, sliding on its stomach. It spread its arms and opened its jaw to lessen his escape route.
"Aim me at its mouth then hop over!" Damian instructed.
"Right!" Jack aimed and Damian shot out its fire, scorching its tongue and gums. Screeching and thrashing about, its closed its jaw to kill the fire. He was hesitant and unsure, but with a small push of his legs he managed to get right over it and nearly stuck the landing…until he triped. "Ah!"
"You clutz! Quick grab its tail!"
Jack shook it off and with a jump he managed to grab its tail before it slithered it off. "Got it!"
"RRRG!" The Demon Beast looked back with blood leaking past its lips.
"Uhhh," He looked at with some fear and soon was gonna have regret. "WAAH!" It lashed and flailed about, trying to launch him off. "DAMIAAAAAN!"
"What are you doing!?" Damain asked.
"GeTTing TOsseDD lIKE a RAGDOLL!" Jack slurred, managing to keep his grip.
"Quit messing around and throw it!"
"HOW!?"
"Plant your feet for one!"
"OH!" He stomped down and dug his feet into the ground, skidding to a stop. It kept trying to move and pull its tail away but the grip was too strong. He grit his teeth, dug in his claws and pulled. "HRRRRRG!" It fought back, embedding its talons into the earth, ripping through the dirt to hold where it was. It was futile because with a yank it was upheaved and twirled around. A few spins in and Jack tossed it into a few trees and a fountain. Without being told to, he rushed to its location.
"Get on its head and rip its eye out!"
"Rip it out!?" Jack, who kept running, looked at Damian grotesquely.
"Got a better idea?"
"Well…"
"Its getting up, hurry!"
"Huh?" With a turn of his head he noticed the Beast rising from the rubble albeit slowly. No other option given, he jumped right onto its snout, grabbing onto it. It's eye glared at him and he looked back unsure and nerved by Damain's idea.
Damain took the initiative, "Stab time!", with his monstrous claws he dug into its eyeball, the pain making it screech and thrash about. "Pull it!"
With a groan of disgust, feeling his fingers inside of the organ, he pulled and with some resistance ripped out its eye with its nerve flopping around. "Ewww!" He managed to be further grossed out even through the Demon Beasts savage and agonized screams.
"Finish it! Use your red hairs!"
"How!? Whoa!" The beast nearly tossed him off.
"Pull your head back and thrust!"
"Al-right!" He was trying to maintain stability, throwing off the eyeball and aiming for its socket. Pulling back, the red hairs sharpened and when he thrusted his head in, they shot forward, stabbing through, engaging deep inside its skull. It stiffened and let out one last long cry that was progressively getting weaker before getting limp and falling. "Uuuugh!" Jack also went limp, his hairs returning, laying on the dead beasts snout. "Its over."
"Nicely done. Now," Damian gestured forward, "enjoy your meal."
"Hm?" In Front of Jack, rising from the corpse, came it soul. It was the same as the frogs, red, white inside, and a squigly tail on top.
*grmmple*
Jacks stomach growled at its sight and the Jackal took a gulp, moving to it, standing up when he got close to it. Gently, he took hold of it, licking his lips and bringing it closer, opening his jaw, enlarging and allowing the sphere in. He closed his mouth and slurped the tail in, chewing happily and swallowing. With a content sigh, he smiled in satisfaction.
"All good?" Damian asked.
"Yep!" Jack said.
"Good, now lets head back!"
"Um…" He looked at the corpse, "Should we do something about this?"
"Nah, it'll disintegrate on its own."
"How long with that take?"
"Few days," Damian pulled him away, "Cmon!"
"Hey hey, don't pull!"
"Hurry up then!"
"Im coming, im coming, jeez!"
They left the park on way to the hospital, failing to notice the white paper bird in the nearby tree that was watching them.
