Chapter 5
Get ready for the Diablo Dragon and the Shadow King, who will now meet each other.
It's time for the Rescue Team to save the Sekirei of Life and Death. Still, they will need help with the others who are after the Sekirei since there are Ashikabi or non-combatants who'll try to get a powerful Sekirei for not just her power but also a meal ticket and sugar mommy.
Shinto Teito
A Few Hours Earlier.
Issei was looking over the other files of the Sekirei that Seo Kaoru had passed out to the people of Shinto Teito and could see that they were basically weapon-type Sekirei, which made Issei wonder why there were so many weapon users and few hand-to-hand combat or elemental users since they can prove to be more useful than most weapon users.
"I really do feel bad for the Raiden Twins since they're stuck with such a shitty master," Issei said before feeling a pair of arms wrap around his neck until a soft sensation touched the back of his neck.
"Guess who?~" A cherry voice said. Issei smiled at the flirting attempt before adopting a pondering look.
"Hm? Oriha?"
"...How mean..."
"I'm just teasing you, Beni-chan."
Benitsubasa huffed but didn't let go, her grip tightening slightly. "You're lucky you're cute, Issei."
He chuckled, gently prying her arms from around his neck. "And you're lucky you're strong, Beni-chan."
As they shared a light moment, the atmosphere in the room shifted when Kocho entered, her expression serious. "Issei-sama, we need to finalize the plan for tonight. The Sekirei of Life and Death has trapped herself in the botanical gardens of the city due to her powers. Hiroto wanted to broadcast the news all over the city for anyone to see, and I tried to get him to understand that we must not create a spectacle from this crisis."
"But he thought it was a good idea to draw up publicity, yes?"
"I'm afraid so, Issei-sama, but what can we do?"
"Simple. We play the game, but I do want to know who this Sekirei of Life and Death is since I haven't seen a Sekirei with that title." Issei said before Kocho handed him a file that was under her left arm.
"Minaka Hiroto told me to give you this, saying that it would explain everything," Kocho said as Issei accepted the file and looked it over. He was rather surprised to see that Kusano was once a small child before a new photo was next to her profile pic, which made her look as if she was twenty years old, about his age.

Kusano was originally the Sekirei of Life, possessing the ability to create and control plant life. Her innocent and childlike demeanor earned her the affection of many. However, a tragic incident involving her protector and brother-figure, Shiina, the Sekirei of Death, drastically altered her fate.
Incident Report: The Fusion of Life and Death
During an assault by intruders, Shiina sacrificed himself to protect Kusano. In a desperate attempt to save him, Kusano's powers merged with Shiina's, transforming her into the Sekirei of Life and Death. This fusion granted her Shiina's abilities but also created a split personality—one embodying Life and the other embodying Death.
Logs and Observations
Log Entry 01: Initial Observations
Dr. Aoi Yoshida:
"Kusano exhibits dual personality traits post-fusion. Her Life persona is unchanged in her demeanor, still showing the same innocent curiosity and warmth. However, her Death persona is volatile, reacting aggressively to perceived threats. This duality is both fascinating and concerning."
Log Entry 05: Interaction with Takehito Asama
Dr. Hina Tanaka:
"During a routine check, Takehito Asama interacted with Kusano. Life greeted him warmly, but when Takehito mentioned Shiina, Death emerged briefly, causing Takehito to step back. She calmed after recognizing him, indicating a complex but manageable relationship."
Log Entry 08: Encounter with Seo Kaoru
Dr. Aoi Yoshida:
"Seo Kaoru accidentally walked in on Kusano while she was transitioning between her personas. Death reacted violently, nearly killing Seo. Since then, Seo has shown a marked fear of Death, avoiding interactions with her entirely."
Log Entry 12: Incident with Potential Ashikabi
Dr. Hina Tanaka:
"Ashikabi candidate #27 was introduced to Kusano for potential winging. Upon approach, Kusano's Death persona emerged, resulting in a fatality. The candidate's life force was drained instantaneously. Kusano (Life) expressed deep remorse following the incident."
Interview Excerpt: Kusano (Life) and Death
Dr. Aoi Yoshida:
Yoshida: "Kusano, can you tell me how you feel right now?"
Kusano (Life): "I'm scared... I don't want to hurt anyone. I miss Shiina. He always protected me."
Death: "Shiina's gone because of weakness. I won't let anyone hurt us again. They deserve what they get."
Log Entry 15: Interaction with Karasuba and Yume
Dr. Hina Tanaka:
"Karasuba and Yume often visit Kusano. Karasuba enjoys sparring verbally with Death, finding a kindred spirit in her ruthless nature. Yume, however, prefers Kusano's Life persona, offering comfort and guidance. Both sides of Kusano seem to appreciate these interactions, albeit differently."
Log Entry 23: Incident at Botanical Gardens
Dr. Hina Tanaka:
"During an outing with Minaka Sahashi, an Ashikabi and his Sekirei attempted to force wing Kusano. Death persona responded violently, neutralizing the threat with lethal force. Kusano (Life) reverted shortly after, seeking comfort from Minaka, who she refers to as 'mother.'"
Log Entry 28: Praying to the Sekirei Gods
Dr. Aoi Yoshida:
"Kusano was observed praying to the Sekirei gods—Athena, Ares, and Aphrodite, though she used different names: Atina, Areia, and Aphrodia. Life often prays to Aphrodia for guidance and comfort, a practice Shiina shared. This ritual seems to bring her some peace, though Death views it with skepticism."
Log Entry 30: Fear of Death
Dr. Hina Tanaka:
"Seo Kaoru's fear of Kusano's Death persona has escalated. During an attempt to gather data, Seo's mere presence triggered Death, who attempted to strangle him. Takehito Asama intervened just in time, but Seo's fear remains, and he refuses further interaction."
Scene 1: Death's First Kill
Death stood over the body of the Ashikabi candidate, her dark eyes glowing with a cold, unfeeling light. Vines and roots, twisted and blackened, retracted back into the earth as the last breath left his lips. She turned to face the horrified scientists, her voice a whisper of menace.
Death: "This is what happens when they try to touch us. They die."
Kusano (Life) re-emerged, collapsing to her knees beside the lifeless body, tears streaming down her face.
Kusano (Life): "I'm sorry… I didn't mean to…"
Scene 2: A Walk in the Gardens
Minaka Sahashi led Kusano through the tranquil paths of the Botanical Gardens. Kusano's laughter filled the air as she marveled at the blooming flowers.
Kusano (Life): "Look, Mother! The flowers are so pretty!"
Minaka: "They are, Kusano. Just like you."
Suddenly, the tranquility was shattered by the approach of an aggressive Ashikabi and his Sekirei. Minaka stepped protectively in front of Kusano, but Death emerged to face the threat.
Death: "You'll regret coming here."
Scene 3: Internal Struggle
Kusano stood in the heart of the forest, her body trembling as her two personalities battled for control.
Kusano (Life): "Shiina wouldn't want this. He believed in us."
Death: "Shiina is gone because of our weakness. We must be strong."
Scene 4: Interaction with Karasuba and Yume
Kusano was sitting in a garden, tending to the flowers. Karasuba and Yume approached, their contrasting energies evident.
Karasuba: "Hey, little one. How's the garden?"
Kusano (Life): "It's beautiful. I wish Shiina could see it."
Karasuba smirked while Yume knelt beside Kusano, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder.
Yume: "He's watching over you, Kusano. He's proud of you."
Kusano smiled, feeling the warmth of Yume's words, while Death silently acknowledged Karasuba's presence.
Scene 5: Prayers to the Gods
Kusano knelt amidst a circle of vibrant flowers, her hands clasped together in earnest prayer. Beside her, Death stood, her demeanor solemn and silent, yet an air of desperation surrounded her.
Kusano (Life): "Aphrodia, please guide us... Are you there, Shiina? Are you safe?"
Death's eyes narrowed, her voice low and filled with bitterness.
Death: "Atina, Areia... We seek your strength. Shiina wouldn't want us to beg forgiveness. He'd want us to be strong."
Kusano glanced sideways at Death, her expression conflicted.
Kusano (Life): "But Death, we need to know... We need to know if he's at peace. If he forgives us..."
Death's gaze softened momentarily, a flicker of doubt crossing her features.
Death: "Fine... Atina, Areia... If you can hear us... Forgive us for what we've become. Protect Shiina, wherever he may be."
Kusano closed her eyes, her voice trembling with emotion.
Kusano (Life): "Please, Shiina... Watch over us. Help us find our way."
In the quiet of the garden, their prayers echoed, a plea for guidance, forgiveness, and the strength to endure their newfound existence.
Quotes and Denial of Participation
Dr. Hina Tanaka:
"Kusano's duality poses significant risks. Her Death persona's instability and violent tendencies make her participation in the Sekirei Plan untenable. We must find a way to help her control these powers."
Hirito Minaka:
"Kusano's powers are too unstable for the Sekirei Plan. Her potential to both create and destroy is unmatched, and without an Ashikabi to ground her, she is a danger to herself and others. I will not allow her to enter the game under these circumstances."
Minaka Sahashi:
"Kusano is like a daughter to me. I've seen her suffer, and I've seen her moments of pure joy. We must protect her, guide her, and ensure she finds the peace she deserves."
Conclusion
Kusano's transformation into the Sekirei of Life and Death has created a complex and dangerous duality within her. In contrast, her Life persona seeks love, comfort, and healing; her Death persona is driven by pain, anger, and a desire to protect at all costs. Her interactions with potential Ashikabi have been disastrous, and her powers continue to grow uncontrollably without a proper anchor. Continued observation, support, and intervention are necessary to help Kusano reconcile her two halves and find a way to live.
They were created by Sekirei #102, Yuki, the Chrono Weaver, also a non-combatant and employee of MBI.
"Wait, I thought all Sekirei were issued to battle in the Sekirei Game?" Issei asked before Kocho explained.
"Yuki isn't a combatant since her powers are more of information gathering, interrogations, and such. That is why Yuki is a Sekirei but more of an employee since her powers aren't exactly useful as a combatant, and she already has an Ashikabi who's also an employee at MBI." Kocho explained, making Issei surprised, before thanking her for the information.
"Thank you, Kocho," Issei said before looking back at the file. "Still, though, we need to see if we can help Kusano control her power before-!"
Issei's eyes widened as his heart and aura began to react as if something or someone was calling out to him at his home.
"Issei/Issei-sama? Are you okay?" Benitsubasa and Kocho asked before Issei began to fall to the ground, alerting his other Sekirei as they rushed over and tried to calm him down until Issei only saw darkness.
At the same time, Kusano was yelling as she reached the gardens, and her power exploded, causing the Botanical Gardens to turn into a massive forest that shocked the Ashikabi, Sekirei, and non-combatants at what was happening at the gardens until Minaka spoke to his assistant.
"So you are telling me that Kusano sensed that she was connected to an Ashikabi, but Death took over and wanted to kill them?" Minaka asked before Natsuo Ichimochi replied.
"Yes. We tried to help them, but Death was hesitant to let us help them, which resulted in Death rushing towards the Northern area of Shinto Teito. But it seems Kusano took over and took them to the gardens instead, and her sudden release of power is the result of the forest we see. How should we handle this since if Death defects any threat, she will attempt to kill us." Natsuo explained before Minaka turned around in his chair and smiled at the forest and unwinged Sekirei entering the forest.
"I actually have an idea, but it'll involve a little show." Minaka said before speaking to Natsuo. "Also, inform Issei of Kusano's predicament. If my hunch is right, and after what happened when Issei's aura exploded in the northern part of Shinto Teito after winging Akitsu, I think our little Queen of the Forest will soon meet her king."
Aphrodite's eyes widened as she felt a massive disturbance in Shinto Teito, which made her worried before looking at the heart of the one who was calling out to her to comfort and guide them.
"Little Kusano," Aphrodite said while looking at the poor unfortunate soul until she saw that the souls that resided in Kusano were tied to another soul that they were both reaching out to in the very same city.
This shocked the Goddess of Love before she smiled at the idea that appeared in her mind after watching Issei meet his future partner.
"Issei Hyoudou. Please save the Sekirei of Life and Death from their guilt and pain." Aphrodite said as she sat in a chair and waited for the action to begin.
Issei drifted into a world of darkness, weightless and disoriented, until a soft light began to pierce through the void. The light grew brighter, and he felt himself being pulled towards it, an inexplicable sense of urgency gripping his heart.
Issei then found himself in a surreal landscape, the darkness giving way to a lush, ethereal forest bathed in a soft, glowing light. In the center stood a figure, delicate and radiant, surrounded by blossoming flowers and verdant greenery. She turned to face him, her eyes wide with a mixture of hope and fear.
"Are you... Are you the one I'm destined to be with?" Her voice was gentle, almost childlike, filled with a longing that tugged at Issei's heart.
Issei took a step closer, feeling a strange but profound connection to her. "I-I think so. Let me help you."
However, before Issei could reach her, the atmosphere around them shifted. The gentle vines and leaves began to wither and blacken, transforming into twisted, menacing forms. Kusano's eyes widened in fear as she stepped back.
"No! Don't hurt him!" Kusano cried out, her voice filled with desperation.
A cold, harsh voice interrupted her.
"Stay back!"
Another figure emerged from the shadows, identical to Kusano but exuding a dark, ominous energy. Her eyes glared at Issei with intense hatred. This was Death.
"You won't take her from me. I won't let anyone hurt her again," Death declared, her aura pulsating with deadly intent.
Issei felt the intense pressure of Death's aura but stood his ground. "I'm not here to hurt her. I want to help both of you. Kusano needs you just as much as you need her."
Death's expression twisted with rage. "Help? No one helped us. They all failed us. Shiina died because of them. I won't let that happen again."
Without warning, Death attacked, dark tendrils of energy lashing out at Issei. He barely managed to dodge, the sheer force of the attack sending him skidding back.
Issei gasped as he woke up in his bed before Kocho headed over to him.
"Issei-sama! You awake!" Kocho said before hugging Issei, which shocked Issei until he was calm enough to ask what happened to him, which led to Kocho explaining that Issei seemed to have been up to sleep due to his soul connecting to a powerful Sekirei that was calling out to him.
Issei then recalled how the Ashikabi could also feel the feelings of the Sekirei in return. If their bond is particularly strong, the Sekirei and Ashikabi can communicate fully telepathically. With sufficient experience, this ability can be extended to telepathically communicate with multiple Sekirei simultaneously.
It even works when a Sekirei is seeking out their Ashikabi when they cannot find them and are under duress, and given Kusano's troubled souls, it makes sense she's under extreme duress.
"Kocho. You stay back with Oriha to protect our base. Yahan, Akitsu, and Benitsubasa will be coming with me to the Botanical Gardens." Issei said while getting up and summoning his dragon eyes, which sent shivers down Kocho's spine before Issei hugged her close, making Kocho explode in a panic due to her being turned on by his aura so close until Issei smiled at her.
"I have to help her, and it's not just because of the call but because I want to save her," Issei said, making Kocho smile at her Ashikabi's kindness before kissing his lips, causing her wings to appear before she spoke to him after they separated.
"Promise me you'll be safe and will return to us."
"I swear," Issei said before kissing her again until he left the room and called the girls. At the same time, Kocho sat on the bed and moaned while shivering at how turned on her body was after the two kisses, which made her wish that she could give all of herself to him right away. However, she knew that her Ashikabi heart was still healing, so she would give all of her love to him and mend the wounds in his heart so that the two may become one in body and spirit.
Present.
This brings us to now.
Issei, Akitsu, Benitsubasa, and Yahan were free running on top of the rooftops, which was the fastest way for them to reach the botanical gardens where Kusano was residing. At the same time, Santiago and his group took a faster route towards the garden.
Issei and his trio of Sekirei leaped past the other Ashikabi who were heading to the gardens as well, which made Issei click his tongue in annoyance, seeing their desires out in the open.
Issei then saw the forest just up ahead of him before he summoned Ascalon in his hand and turned to look at Akitsu.
"Akitsu. Ice them." Issei said, making Akitsu smile as she then leaped to the road and froze the ground, causing many of the people to slip and fall on either their backs or bump into each other.
Issei grinned at this before seeing the entrance of the gardens appear. He descended from the rooftops and landed on the ground, with Yahan emerging from his shadow and Benitsubasa landing right behind him.
Benitsubasa turned around and looked at the other Ashikabi with their Sekirei while Akitsu summoned a sword made of ice.
"Issei. I will deal with them. You go on ahead." Akitsu said before Benitsubasa smiled and joined in.
"You can count me in, too," Benitsubasa said.
Issei thanked them both before running into the forest with Yahan behind him until Santiago emerged from the shadows and appeared in front of him.
"It's a pleasure to finally meet the Red Dragon Emperor," Santiago said. At the same time, Issei readied himself for a fight until a chuckle from Santiago made Issei realize he wasn't an enemy.
"Santiago? You wouldn't happen to be related to a Connla, right?" Issei asked before Santiago growled as he heard the name that he disliked with all of his being.
"Unfortunately, I am related to that idiotic fool who literally was such a disgrace for siding with that stubborn child of a hero," Santiago said before bowing to Issei a bit. "You have my deepest apologies for not stopping Connla when he joined the Hero Faction."
"No, No. You couldn't have known or expected him to do something like that. He's trying to change, and sure, it's taking a while, but I can tell Connla is trying to become better." Issei explains, making Santiago smile a bit, knowing how his foolish brother is trying to change for the better and redeem himself for his actions.
"Thank you. Still, I've been a fan of yours for a while now, and I'm impressed with how you've been helping your flock become stronger before the Azazel Cup.
"Indeed, although I still need to take the trials in order to get in the rankings system. I may have started forming my peerage, but I wanted to make sure they were ready for what's to come since this Azazel Cup will not be easy; I see this as a fun way to show everyone that I'm not that same person back when I first started as a Devil." Issei said while Santiago nodded in response before looking at his Sekirei, working alongside Issei's own Sekirei.
"I know why you are here, and I admire how you wish to save her, but I can tell that the two souls within Kusano, Life and Death, will not be easy since Life seems to resonate with you. However, Death is the problem due to their shared guilt for the Death of the one they care for." Santiago said before getting a suspicious look from Issei.
"And how do you know what without seeing her file?"
"My special talent. Sure, I am a superior master of shadows and darkness than my idiot brother, but I also can see the souls of others and their true feelings. When I walked through the shadows, I saw the girl's soul clashing with Life, wanting to wing and be with you, while Death clashed with Life and wanted to protect her."
"That makes helping her a bit complicated."
"Indeed. I trust you'll be able to reach her, but be careful with her since it's difficult to know which side will take over. I'll deal with the ones outside of the forest while you deal with the Queen." Santiago said before Issei thanked him for his help until he ran into the forest with Yahan at his side; however, the Shadow Sekirei had her concerns.
"Are you sure we can trust him, Issei? We hardly know anything about him."
"Then it's just a risk I'll have to take. Also, Akitsu and Benitsubasa are no pushovers. Stay hidden in my shadow since it'll be easier for you to stage your sneak attacks."
"Of course, Issei. Don't worry about attackers since your lovely assassin is here to deal with them."
This made Issei chuckle a bit as he then replied to her.
"Then I'll trust you to watch my back," Issei said, making Yahan smile as she went back into his shadow and began to prepare for any fools who would dare to harm her Ashikabi.
Santiago laughed as he had the shadows appear and clash with many humans and Sekirei, which amused him to no end until a gray blur took out a Sekirei that was trying to get the jump on Yashima.
The Dark Trio and Santiago were shocked to see that the blur that saved Yashima was none other than a former member of the Disciplinary Squad: Haihane.
"Hi." Haihane waved a lazy hand as if she was bored of the fight before Yashima thanked Haihane for saving her. Santiago approached her and patted her head, making Haihane purr in delight as she enjoyed the moment with the one who made her feel warm until Haihane then wrapped her arms around Santiago's neck and nuzzled into Santiago's neck, just barely making their lips touch, which seemed to work as Haihane's wings appeared on her back. In contrast, Santiago was surprised and shocked by the unique kiss from his new Sekirei, who was definitely different from the others he had seen during the game.
"Wire claws of my pledge, tear apart the guards imprisoning my Ashikabi!" Haihane said before turning around to the other Sekirei and Ashikabi approaching them before Santiago readied himself.
"Don't allow a single one of them to pass and enter the forest," Santiago said before the flock of the Shadow King and Issei's Sekirei got ready to fight until Issei rejoined them.
Within the Forest of Life and Death.
Meanwhile, within the depths of the Botanical Gardens, Issei and Yahan moved cautiously. The forest around them felt alive, pulsating with an energy that was both vibrant and sinister. The closer they got to the heart of the garden, the more Issei could feel the conflicting energies of Life and Death battling for control.
Issei paused, sensing a surge of power. "We're close. Be ready for anything."
Yahan nodded, her form blending seamlessly with the shadows as she scouted ahead.
Thanks to her being a Pawn, Yahan was able to use her Bishop form to become more of a shadow assassin, which allowed her to scout out ahead and hide her presence that even Issei was impressed when he couldn't sense her being.
However, this trick has a cost since shadows and darkness have always had a weakness to bright light or light magic; however, fire seems to do just as much harm to her, which is why Issei warned her to be cautious when in her Shadow Mode.
Unfortunately, Yahan wasn't able to get far as the ground beneath them trembled, and vines shot out, trying to trap Issei. He leaped back, dodging the attack, while Yahan's shadow form was unfazed by the vines passing through her body until she had her arms into blades before she intercepted the vines, cutting them down with precise strikes.
A figure emerged from the foliage, eyes glowing with a dangerous light. It was Kusano, but her appearance was different. Her hair, a deep inky black, and her eyes, dark and menacing, indicated the presence of Death.
"Stay back!" Death hissed, her voice filled with a chilling determination. "I won't let you hurt us!"
Issei held his ground, his voice calm and soothing. "I'm not here to hurt either you or Kusano. I want to help you both."
Death's eyes narrowed, and the ground around her began to decay, blackened roots spreading outward. "Help? Help?! No one can help us! They all failed Shiina!"
Death shouted while Issei felt a pang of empathy. He understood the pain of loss and the desperation to protect those you care about, especially when he was the Red Dragon Emperor. "I understand your pain, Death. But isolating yourself and Kusano won't bring him back. Kusano needs you to be strong, but she also needs love and support."
Death hesitated, her fierce expression faltering for a moment. "Love... Support..."
Before she could react, a soft voice broke through the tension. "Please, Death, let him help us."
It was Kusano, her presence gentle and pleading. She emerged beside Death, her green hair and vibrant eyes contrasting sharply with Death's dark aura.
"B-But I have to protect us!" Death shouted as Issei took a tentative step forward.
"You both need each other. You're stronger together. You don't have to keep fighting alone."
Death's resolve wavered a bit, the conflicting emotions within her evident.
Kusano reached out, placing a hand on Death's shoulder. "We can find peace together."
Issei extended his hand, his eyes filled with compassion. "Let's work through this together."
Death glanced between Kusano and Issei, the struggle within her apparent. Finally, with a deep breath, she took a step back, her aura softening.
"Alright," Death said, her voice quieter, almost vulnerable. "But if you fail us..."
"I won't," Issei promised. "I won't make some ridiculous promise that I'll be able to make all the right choices since no one is ever that right. Also, I can tell that you both carry a large amount of guilt, but one thing I do know is that we can't just ignore the fact that the two of you are opposites who have a few things in common."
Issei said that as the forest around them began to calm, the vibrant Life returned; Issei knew that this was just the beginning. Helping Kusano reconcile her two halves would be a long journey, but he was determined to see it through.
Kusano/Life seemed to be happy with Issei, but Death was another matter, so Issei decided to focus on helping her with the guilt.
"Tell me, you say these words to yourself at night. 'I wish I could've done something more to save Shiina.' 'If only I were stronger.' Phrases like that?" Issei asked, Death nodding in response before Issei sat on the ground and looked up into the sky, smiling at the stars.
"Yes. Kusano's guilt and desire for strength since when Life was all Kusano was, she was innocent, pure, kind, and loving. Shiina looked after Kusano since she couldn't control her powers despite the experiments that were done to help Kusano. However, when Shiina looked after Kusano, his death ability helped stabilize her powers."
"Which is why Shiina was very important to Kusano. Shiina was, in a way, a guardian or big brother in her case since he was the one person who showed her genuine love and care before her caretaker?" Issei asked before Death nodded in response.
Issei recalled a certain nun that he saw as a little sister at first before recalling their interactions back when his Life was a bit chaotic, but more importantly, a person he deeply cared for who held his heart and made him despise the Angels and Church after what they did to Asia.
However, despite Asia cheating on Issei and saying those words about him, Issei couldn't be mad at Asia since a small part of him deeply cares about the same girl he gave his life to many, many times. But instead of love, Issei deeply cared for Asia since she was a sweet and kind person like Kusano, which was probably another reason why Issei wanted to help Kusano.
"I get that. A few years ago, back when I was seventeen, I met a girl who was just like Kusano back in Kuoh Town. A nun who was just as naive and kind as our Queen of the Forest." Issei said before recalling his second year at Kuoh Academy.
Issei's voice softened as he continued, "Her name was Asia. She was a beacon of light in a world that was often dark and harsh. Despite everything that happened, she always remained kind and hopeful. She had this unwavering faith in people, always believing in the goodness of others, even when they didn't deserve it."
Death listened intently, her eyes reflecting a mix of curiosity and empathy.
"Asia and I went through a lot together. She was innocent and pure, much like Kusano. She had this unique ability to heal others, which made her a target for those who wanted to exploit her powers. I saw her suffer because of her kindness, and I did everything I could to protect her," Issei explained, a hint of sadness in his voice.
He paused for a moment, gathering his thoughts. "But despite all my efforts, I couldn't save her from everything. She was taken away from me, and it left a void in my heart. I blamed myself for not being strong enough, for not being able to protect her from the cruelty of the world. Those feelings of guilt and regret... they're hard to let go."
Death nodded, understanding the weight of his words. "I can see why you want to help Kusano. You see a reflection of Asia in her, don't you?"
Issei smiled faintly. "Yes, I do. Kusano's innocence, her kindness, and her struggle to control her powers... reminds me of Asia. And I don't want to see her suffer the same way. I want to be there for her, to help her navigate her path and find a way to reconcile her two halves."
Death's expression softened. "You have a good heart, Issei. And maybe, by helping Kusano, you can find some peace for yourself as well."
Issei looked up at the stars, a sense of determination filling his heart. "Maybe. But right now, my focus is on Kusano. She deserves to find happiness and balance within herself. And I'll do everything in my power to help her achieve that."
The forest around them seemed to respond to his resolve, the gentle rustling of leaves and the soft glow of fireflies creating a serene ambiance.
Issei turned his attention back to Death. "You carry a lot of guilt, too. I can see it in your eyes. But you're not alone in this. We'll face it together, and we'll find a way to heal."
Issei took a deep breath, his expression becoming more somber. "There's more to the story, though," he continued, his voice steady but tinged with sorrow. "Asia... she cheated on me. It was a shock. After everything we'd been through, it felt like a betrayal. I was heartbroken, confused, and angry."
Death's eyes widened slightly, the revelation clearly surprising her. "She... cheated on you? How did you handle that?"
Issei gazed into the distance, the memories flooding back. "At first, I was devastated. I couldn't understand why she would do something like that. We had been through so much together, and I thought our bond was unbreakable. But as time passed, I realized something important."
He turned back to Death, a calm resolve in his eyes. "Despite the pain she caused me, I couldn't bring myself to hate her. I wasn't even angry. Asia was, and still is, a kind and gentle soul. Maybe she made a mistake; maybe she found something she needed elsewhere. But whatever the reason, I just wanted her to be happy. I couldn't hold a grudge against her."
Death looked at him, her expression a mix of amazement and confusion. "How could you not be angry? How could you forgive her so easily?"
Issei smiled faintly, a hint of sadness in his eyes. "What good would being mad accomplish? Holding onto anger and resentment would only hurt me more. It wouldn't change what happened, and it wouldn't make things better. Asia's happiness mattered to me more than my pride or hurt feelings. Letting go of the anger was the only way I could move forward."
Death seemed to ponder his words, her gaze softening as she processed his perspective. "That's... quite a mature way to look at it. I'm not sure I could do the same."
Issei nodded. "It wasn't easy, and it took time. But I realized that forgiveness is a choice. It's about finding peace within yourself and not letting the past control your future. And in helping Kusano, I want to bring that same peace to her and maybe to you as well."
Death looked at him with newfound respect and understanding. "You're a remarkable person, Issei. Your compassion and strength are truly admirable."
Issei shook his head modestly. "I'm just trying to do what feels right. We all have our burdens to carry, and sometimes, letting go is the best way to lighten the load."
With those words, Issei stood back up on his feet before extending his left hand towards Death once more. "So, what do you say? Ready to leave this forest and become anew?"
Death smiled back at him at the same time Kusano appeared within her as well before they both took his hand, a sense of determination and hope in their eyes.
"We would be happy to become your Sekirei, Issei Hyoudou, the Ashikabi of the North." Both Life/Death said before they leaned in and kissed Issei's lips, who reciprocated the kiss before Kusano's body leaned back after the kiss, resulting in her body releasing a wing of pure gold and a wing of silver like grey.
The two souls then smiled as they looked at their Ashikabi and spoke their vow.
"Life and Death of my Pledge, Shine on my Ashikabi and heal his wounds in both body and spirit."
As she spoke, the forest around them responded, shimmering with an ethereal glow that symbolized both the flourishing vitality of Life and the serene acceptance of Death. Trees that had been withered and lifeless sprang back to vibrant health, their leaves rustling gently in the rejuvenated breeze. Flowers of every color blossomed in abundance, their petals glistening with dew, while the deeper shadows of the forest provided a quiet, contemplative contrast.
Issei felt a deep sense of accomplishment and serenity as he watched the transformation, knowing that Kusano's journey was only beginning but that she now had the strength to face it. Kusano's appearance, with her hair streaked in silver and eyes of green and dark blue, was a testament to her rebirth and the unity she had achieved within herself.
Kusano turned to Issei, her expression one of profound gratitude and peace. "Thank you, Issei," she said softly, her voice carrying the weight of her transformation.
Issei nodded, his heart light. "You did it, Kusano. You've found your balance and your true strength."
Kusano merely smiled as tears formed in the corners of her eyes while praying to her Goddess for delivering her Ashikabi to her and prayed that she would be able to heal his wounds.
Back at Olympus.
"Amazing. I never would've imagined that the Sekirei of Life and Death would've become such an amazing person." Aphrodite said while looking at the new Kusano and then at Issei's heart before seeing an image shift between Issei and the different Sekirei he's winged so far.
Akitsu was hugging Issei and vice versa while their wings shielded each other from harm.
Benitsubasa and Issei sparred together, and both had smiles on their faces, loving their training.
Kocho gave Issei a lap pillow and smiled down at Ashikabi's head before rubbing his hair, making Issei sigh in relaxation.
Yahan and Issei fought together while Yahan watched his back.
Oriha is a wonderful maid and serves her master, while Issei enjoys the tea that she provides for him.
And now, Kusano wrapped her arms around Issei's neck and kept his body safe while the two looked at the stars in the sky.
Aphrodite cried a bit seeing these images since she was so happy that her creations were spreading love and happiness to their destined ones, while the love they receive back makes them so much stronger and happier.
The Goddess of Love even smiled at Santiago's own Sekirei and how they loved their Ashikabi, which made her chuckle a bit at how her brother and sisters' own Sekirei were able to find love as well.
Aphrodite then looked at the many other Sekirei that were connecting to the two kings, which made Aphrodite excited as she rushed to inform her brother and sister of the Sekirei, unaware that a Sekirei born from Ares was approaching the Diablo Dragon.
Back to Shinto Teito.
"I thank you, Santiago. You and your group were able to keep them out long enough for me to help Kusano, so if you need anything, ask." Issei said as he expressed his gratitude to the Shadow King before Santiago smiled and replied.
"Prepare for the Azazel Cup since you and Vali are the only two I wish to clash in battle since I yearn to become a king who wishes to rule through respect and a bit of fear, but not through bloodshed," Santiago said, which made Issei smile in response since he could tell that Vali would like to meet Santiago as well.
"Then I look forward to seeing you in the tournament after six months, so you better not lose before facing me."
"Heh. Likewise."
Issei and Santiago said to each other as the two then did a brotherly hug until Issei whispered something into Santiago's ear and vice versa, resulting in the two laughing together, which shocked their groups until the two began to walk away from the forest.
"Until next time we meet, Ashikabi of the East. I look forward to seeing your flock in action."
"Indeed, and I look forward to the upcoming matches in this game. May the best king win, Ashikabi of the North."
Issei and Santiago said to each other with their flocks following their Ashikabi, unaware that they'd gained the attention of many Sekirei who were amazed by their abilities.
"I thought I would've had to interfere, but these two Ashikabi seem to be making this game and my job a lot easier." A silver-haired person said while looking down at the two retreating groups, more specifically the Diablo Dragons group, which made them touch their chest again as their heart began to beat loudly, causing them to look at their chest and see the fun sacks on them.
"D-Dammit. I don't have much time." They said before vanishing into the darkness.
"I can't react to him. I need to find another Ashikabi as soon as possible."
"How interesting. This Shadow King is really making me want to cut him up even more." A woman said as she sharpened her blades and licked her lips as if she were eyeing a wonderful piece of meat.
The woman wore clothing similar to the robes of a miko, consisting of a white haori and red hakama, along with dark-strapped sandals. Her purple hair was spiky and unkempt, and her eyes were narrow and heavily shadowed, with one being covered by her hair, similar to Haihane's appearance.
"Santiago, Ashikabi of the East, you'll be a delicious meal for me to chop up with my scissors." The woman said, looking at her sharpened blades before shivering in joy. She couldn't wait to fight with her future Ashikabi.
"Kaho! Do you feel it? My Ashikabi is calling out to me!" A brown-haired girl shouted as she looked at the television while eyeing Issei Hyoudou, while another girl next to her, one with long black hair secured with a dark red bow and large brown eyes. She was wearing predominantly white, pink, and red yukata secured with a white bow, while the brown-haired girl was wearing a miko outfit.
"Indeed, Musubi. I can tell that our destined ones are different, which makes me think that we'll have to depart ways." Kaho said while Musubi looked down at the idea of leaving her best friend.
"Hey, don't look so down, Musubi," Kaho said, gently picking up her friend's chin and smiling at her. "We both have the same dream, remember? To free all of the terminated Sekirei with "broken wings. That's why this is good since both of us will be able to continue fighting for that dream together, just on different sides."
Musubi cried happy tears as she hugged Kaho since the girl always had a way of cheering Musubi up when she was feeling down before the two friends separated and headed to their apartment to enjoy one last night together before meeting their Destined Ones.
"Hm. Interesting." A woman said while looking at a video of Santiago clashing with another Sekirei and defeating them. Her heart raced, and she saw his eyes glow with power, which sent a shiver down her spine.
She had long, straight grey hair and violet eyes. She wears an elegant white dress that has long, flowing sleeves and a bottle-shaped cutout that reveals roughly half of her breasts and her midriff and stomach to just below her belly button. There was a belt-like X-shaped piece of black fabric that appeared to secure the dress at waist level.
"I think I should meet this Ashikabi of the East to see who he is before I make my decision." The woman said before turning to her roommate.
"Hey, Kurenai! Are you awake or pretending to sleep again?"
A few tumbles were heard as a woman barged into the room and growled at her as if Kurenai was interrupted from her nap.
Kurenai had long, wild red hair and piercing red eyes that gave her an intimidating presence. She wore dark, edgy clothing adorned with red accents that symbolized her control over blood. Her overall look is fierce and chaotic, reflecting her volatile personality.
"Silence, woman! I, Kurenai, am awake and want to know why you wish to disturb my sleep!" Kurenai shouted until the woman just pointed to the screen, where Kurenai blushed at seeing Santiago fight before her eyes lit up in excitement.
"I see. Thou has found my Ashikabi, which means that I'll soon be able to take on Karasuba and claim her title as the second strongest, for I, Kurenai, the Bloody Queen, shall claim her crown! Ahahaha!" Kurenai shouted before a swift object hit her on her head, resulting in Kurenai being knocked out by a frying pan in her roommate's hand.
"W-Why T-Taki?"
"Someone has to keep your Chunibiyo side in check," Taki said while sighing at how she's basically been babysitting the brat since Kurenai was a special Sekirei who seemed to think she was more powerful than Karasuba, which was laughable but amusing. Hence, the Black Sekirei proposed a challenge: should Kurenai find her Ashikabi, then she would battle her.
Taki then looked back at Santiago before smiling at him.
"I always had a thing for the bad boy vibe, which probably explains how I've put up with Kurenai for so long." Taki pondered aloud before taking Kurenai back to her room, where she could play with her cat when she woke up from her sleep.
"So the two most powerful and popular Ashikabi have met each other. And the one I'm reacting to is the one who turned me down to join the squad." Karasuba said as she smiled with her signature grin while there was blood all over her face and clothes before imagining fighting with Issei.
"Issei Hyoudou. You really make me want to wing myself to you. After all, we are similar since we both love to fight." Karasuba said as she then looked into his eyes. "But also, you are so much like her. The only other person who earned my respect but then died."
Karasuba then punched the glass separating Issei's image from her before blushing and seeing his confident expression.
"So much like her. If Yume were alive, then I'd almost believe you two would've been siblings." Karasuba said before going back to MBI to clean up for the evening, she would go and fight with her destined one, who is possibly her rival reborn.
However, not all were like the other Sekirei and interested in their Destined Ones.
"T-That fiend! How dare he fill my mind with these lustful dreams!" A blonde-haired woman shouted as water exploded around her. "When I find him, I'll kill him and free myself from these thoughts!"
Minaka was smiling back in his office, seeing the results of the fun mini-game that he placed in the gardens.
"Now, this is shaping up to be a fun match-up, especially since the feedback that the two are gaining is going to make this battle much more interesting if they try to claim either the south or west of Shinto Teito," Minaka said while watching the footage before hearing a radio broadcast interrupt his viewing temporarily, which made the Game Master smirk while identifying who was doing this.
"Ah, the Siren Sekirei. I'm curious about who's wandering into her view while she's on the radio. Minaka asked himself before looking over the file to see that the Siren Sekirei was Kuno, who was a Sekirei capable of "voice" or "song," with which she could either confuse their enemy or block their attacks. With her Norito, she can drain the energy from her enemies while putting them to sleep. It also has a weak effect on enemies who are far away.
That is until she learned how to make her songs heard on the radio and how others fell under her spell, causing her to change from a shy soul into a siren who loved to express herself on the radio waves, which also inspired her new attire from a certain demon she saw in a tv show that loved the radio like her.
"Oh, this will definitely be fun," Minaka said with a faint laugh while watching the action in his game.
Scene!
I hope you all enjoyed it, and at the end, the Sekirei shown will be with Issei and Santiago, along with a new Sekirei to make up for the lack of elemental users, so here is one of Santiago's newest Sekirei.
Sekirei #29: Kurenai
- Type: Elemental
- Power: Blood Manipulation
- Personality: Like Power from Chainsaw Man, Kurenai is brash, arrogant, and somewhat selfish, often acting impulsively without thinking through the consequences. She loves fighting and tends to boast about her abilities. Despite her rough exterior, she has a deep-seated desire to be recognized and appreciated by her Ashikabi, showing a more vulnerable side when in their presence.
- Strengths:
- *Blood Weapons: Kurenai can manipulate her blood or others to form various weapons, such as scythes, spears, and shields. These weapons are incredibly sharp and durable, making her a formidable opponent in battle.
- Regeneration: She can use her blood manipulation ability to rapidly heal her wounds, making it difficult for her to incapacitate in combat.
- Enhanced Physical Abilities: Her combat prowess is enhanced by superhuman strength, speed, and reflexes, making her deadly in close quarters.
- Weaknesses:
- Blood Dependency: Using her powers extensively drains her blood, leading to weakness if she overextends herself. If she loses too much blood, her abilities significantly weaken, and she becomes more vulnerable.
- Background: Kurenai was always a fighter, thriving in battles and enjoying the thrill of combat, much like the God of War who made her like Karasuba. Her powers manifested early, making her both feared and respected among other Sekirei. Despite her aggressive demeanor, she struggles with a deep-seated fear of being left alone and unappreciated, driving her to seek out a strong Ashikabi who can recognize her worth and give her a sense of belonging.
