I'd rather not be here faking my existence. Hopefully tonight goes quick. I thought to myself.
"Don't look now but Thor brought a guest." Nat - my best friend - said as she was mixing our drinks. "He's cute."
"He never brings a guest." I turned around to the elevator and saw Thor talking to Tony. "Do you know who he is?" I asked, examining his guest.
He's about 6'2", slick black hair that curls a bit on the ends, slender build, and in an all black suit.
He does not look happy to be here.
"That's his brother, Loki." Bruce came up to the bar. "I just have a beer, Nat."
"They don't look related." I commented taking the drink Nat placed in front of me.
"I think Thor said he's adopted. I don't remember, meet him at a different function a while back."
"He looks pissed." Nat said to Bruce as she handed him his beer and he left. "Lexi you're staring."
"Am I?"
I was staring. There was something about him that caught my attention. Then we made eye contact and I looked away, blushing.
"Go say hi. Make a night of it." Nat teased. "Lord knows you need it. There must be a reason you wore this dress." She grinned.
She's not wrong but it's also not the reason she's thinking. I wore it so people thought I was okay.
I wasn't wearing anything fancy. I was in a dark emerald green cocktail dress with a slit on the left side stopping right below my hip. The dress barely hung in my shoulders and showed a small amount of cleavage. My dirty white converse kind of ruin the outfit but I'm not one for heels.
"You just don't want me to be alone." I sipped my drink.
"True but he's coming over here." She said as she walked away.
"Where are you going?" I stood from my chair watching her join the crowd of people.
"I was going to ask you the same thing." A low gravely voice said.
I smiled, "I probably would have asked why I was staring." I turned around, having to look up to meet his deep blue eyes.
He chuckled. "I was thinking about asking your name first."
"You can do that, Loki." I smiled, leaning against the bar with my drink in my hand.
"I also have a few tricks of my own." He stuffed his hands in his pockets.
"And what's that?"
"I'm sure you'll find out later. Do you have a name?" He asked leaning in.
"Lexi!" Bucky yelled from the crowd. "Party's over here! You're missing the games!"
I shook my head. I don't know why I thought he wouldn't be here.
"So Lexi, will you help me navigate this party?" He leaned into my ear. "You're much better company than my brother."
I looked at him as he smiled. I took a drink and said, "A stick would be better company compared to your brother."
Everyone did their fair share of drinking, eating and acting like a fool. We played a game of pool, toured the building, and played some poker. Everyone was having a good time. Near the end of the night, majority of the core group tried to lift Thors hammer.
"Never thought something like this would be so entertaining." I sat next to Loki, leaning against him. Like I said, we're all drinking.
"Can you lift it?" I asked him.
"No." He chuckled, staring at my arm.
"Lexi, truth or dare?" Bucky asked.
"Truth." I took a drink. Immediately regret acknowledging him.
"What happened to you two weeks ago?" Bucky, who was sitting in a chair across from me, asked loud enough that the room went silent.
This question sobered me up, as I'm sure it did everyone else.
I sat up, saying "You know what happened."
"Yeah, but maybe the guy you're getting friendly with and thinking about fucking tonight should know what he's getting into." He leaned out of his chair.
I took one last drink and slammed it on the coffee table in front of me.
I should have stayed home tonight. It would have been too late to for someone to save me.
"You're a dick." I stood up and started walking to the door that lead to the roof.
"Just because you're miserable Buck doesn't mean she has to be too." I heard Nat say. "You're the one who fucked up."
I walked out the door, up a few flights of stairs and was met with a cold chill. I walked to the edge and leaned on the concrete wall. Taking in the sites of the city. I traced my hand over the long scar on my arm. I was outside long enough that I was numb to the cold air.
"So this is where you disappeared to." A jacket was placed on my shoulders and then Loki appeared next to me, leaning against the edge as well. "It's beautiful up here."
"In a way." I looked at my arm. "I'll miss it."
"You're leaving?"
"I have too. I can't stay here anymore. Too many bad memories." I put my arms in the sleeves of the jacket and turned around, sitting down against the brick.
"I'm sorry to hear that." He said, joining me on the ground.
I should have cut my other arm.
"I'm glad you didn't. This party would have been really boring."
I shot a look at him, he was playing with some pebbles he found on the ground, avoiding eye contact.
"How did you…"
"Like I said, I have a few tricks of my own." He sheepishly looked at me. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to invade your privacy like that." He looked back at the ground.
We sat in silence for a while. He continued to play with the pebbles and I just watched him.
"We should probably head back down stairs." He broke the silence. "I'm sure they'll be missing you."
He stood up and brushed off the dust from the gravel and held out his hand. I took his hand and he helped me up. My hand still holding his, we walked to the door and I stopped.
"We only just met." He turned to me, standing close as to make sure he didn't miss a word. "Why did you come after me?"
He rubbed his thumb over my knuckles. Then he tucked a piece of hair behind my ear, resting his hand against my face. "I feel like I've known you for a lifetime, Darling."
I smiled, feeling safe by his touch.
"You need to see New York and not be stuck at the lame ass party." I said, tightening my grip on his hand and taking the led down the stairs.
I opened the door where the party was continuing on. We just needed to get to the elevator. But it's never that easy.
"Where are you headed, Doll?" Bucky asked as we walked past him.
"Don't call me that." I pressed the elevator button.
"I'm just looking after you."
"I'm capable of taking care of myself." I turned around, letting go of Loki's hand and walked closer to Bucky. "It's not like you ever cared to take care of me anyway."
"That's not true." He said standing about two feet away from me.
"Right." I smacked my lips and slowly nodded my head. "You only cared about putting me down, making sure I doubted myself, and most importantly making sure I didn't find out about Sharon. You really cared."
The elevator dings and the doors opened.
"Goodnight Barnes." I turned back around and met Loki in the elevator.
I leaned against the railing as the elevator doors closed. Then the elevator came to a stop. I groaned resting my head back.
"I hate this fucking building." I breathed, closing my eyes.
"Truth or dare." Loki asked.
"Truth." I looked at him as he was leaning against the corner of the box we were stuck in.
"Why'd you do it?"
He looked at me softly. Much different from when he first arrived to the tower.
"I've been in a well of self doubt for so long, I don't know how to be happy anymore." I started playing with the sleeve of the jacket.
"Truth." He said before I could ask. I watched as he moved closer to me.
"Why did you come to the party?" I looked into his eyes as they looked me up and down.
"My brother can be very persuasive." He grinned. "But mostly, he didn't want to be responsible with his liquor tonight."
He was standing right next to me, "Truth or dare." He whispered in my ear, trapping me in my corner of the elevator.
"Truth." I almost couldn't speak when he rest his hand on my waist, under the jacket.
"Do I make you uncomfortable?" He rested his forehead against mine.
"No." I said as he pressed his body against mine.
"Dare." He said with lust in his eyes.
I rest my fingers against his chin. "Kiss me." I lifted my leg against his.
He kissed my lips, gently.
"I expected better." I teased.
He smiled, biting his lip. "Better means I won't stop." He ran his hand up my exposed leg, teasing the edge of my dress.
"Good." I was inches from his lips as the elevator started moving again.
Loki chuckled. "I can see why you hate this building." He waved his hand and the elevator stop again.
He started with soft kisses on my neck and his hand moved under my dress, feeling for my underwear. I moaned as he pushed further into my neck.
