Izzy was almost ready, she just couldn't decide whether she should wear her pearl bracelet or not. Felicity had said that she always liked that bracelet when Izzy was wearing purple. She was wearing a lavender dress tonight, so she decided that she would wear the bracelet. She was going to go to dine at the White Sands. This was going to be her third time this week. William just kept on inviting her.
She was really quite fond of William. The past two months they had gotten the chance to get to know each other very well. His father was a businessman in New York, and it wouldn't be long before he would take over the business. He was also very kind and generous. On top of that, everyone said that he was head over heels for her. They also seemed to feel a bit sad when saying that; she knew why. She knew that all they could do was think of Felix King. She felt bad for him, but what could she do? She couldn't pretend to love someone she really didn't know. Besides, he wasn't even in Avonlea. He wasn't even in the country for that matter! He was in Europe. She decided that she was going to give up on the idea of regaining her memory. It had been months already. She would just have to build a new life for herself.
There was a knock at the door and Clive quickly answered it. He was disappointed to see his daughter with anyone else but Felix. He had really grown quite fond of the boy. But he was glad that Mr. Taylor was at least a respectable young man with good prospects. He did seem to be in love with Izzy, a little too in love. He was worried that things would move too fast for the two of them. "Hello Mr. Taylor. Izzy is almost done getting ready, I will just let her know that you are here."
At that moment Izzy came walking down the stairs. William thought that she looked beautiful. He felt as if it was Providence that the two of them should meet. He was sure that he loved Izzy and he knew that she was fond of him. He felt as if he had finally found the girl of his dreams. She was so beautiful, kind, generous, and fun. She was perfect.
Izzy smiled, "Good afternoon William, I hope that you haven't been waiting long."
"Not at all," William smiled back, "You look particularly lovely tonight."
Izzy motioned goodbye to her Clive and Muriel and followed William to the buggy. While on the ride there they enjoyed each other's company. The two of them seemed to get along well together, but in the past few months the town of Avonlea noticed this too. And the gossips of the village told everyone what they already knew, "That poor Felix King. He went to war and after all that suffering he will find that 'his girl' is with another young man." Izzy knew what everyone was saying and she didn't care. She felt bad for this 'Felix King', but she was not 'his girl'.
At the White Sands, Izzy and William had a leisurely dinner. They talked about anything and everything. After they had finished William proposed that they take a walk on the grounds, which Izzy happily agreed to.
They walked for some time until they finally took a rest on one of the benches in the garden, "Oh William, I have had a wonderful time with you. Although I have spent a lot of time with you the past few months I want you to know that I haven't tired of your company. I really enjoy being around you," Izzy said sincerely.
"I enjoy being around you too," William began to blush, "I want to … you know …," he sighed, "The past few months you have become a very good friend. I believe that we should move on to the next logical step … kissing (Love May Be Blind But It's Neighbors Ain't)." He looked down, waiting for a response.
All of a sudden Izzy felt as if she had heard those same words before. She could picture someone leaning on the grass beside her saying those things. 'Nonsense,' she thought. She tried to brush the thought aside. Then she realized how ridiculous the suggestion was, "William Taylor! What do you mean? Besides, I don't believe that there is anything truly 'logical' when it comes to love."
William was quick to respond, "No! That's not what I meant to say. I meant … I … well …"
Izzy understood, "Oh Will," she laughed, "Don't worry. I am not like some other girls who are quick to ditch a boy because he accidentally put his foot in his mouth. If I slammed the door in a boy's face every time he did, I would need iron hinges (Hearts and Flowers)."
William looked up. I knew that he had found the perfect girl, "I better get better at talking if I expect to get into business," he joked, "I don't know how I got so lucky. I sure am lucky that you don't give up on me."
Without thinking Izzy said, "Luck, has nothing to do with it (A Fox Tale)." Why did she say that? She knew that he was just joking, but she felt as if it was the right thing to say. She felt as if she had said it before. All of a sudden she pictured a boy giving her a lopsided smile. She could see him walking beside and eventually reach out to hold her hand. She tried to shake away the thought, 'what is wrong with me?'
All of a sudden William began looking deep into Izzy's eyes, all was silent. Izzy was caught up in the moment, and as she saw William slowly leaning towards her she found herself doing the same thing. When their lips met William closed his eyes, taking in the moment. Izzy kept her eyes open, but she didn't see William in front of her. She saw Felix King! She quickly pulled away.
"What's wrong?" William said worriedly.
"Oh my goodness," Izzy said in a whisper. She began quietly sobbing.
William was confused, "Izzy what's wrong? Did I do something, did I …"
"You don't understand, I remember. I remember everything. I remember my father and Muriel. I remember Morgan and Arthur. I remember Cecily, and the rest of the King family."
"Izzy, what are you talking about? I know that you lost your memory, but you have known these people the past few months now," William didn't understand. He began to get worried, "You are feeling alright, right?"
"No, that's not what I mean. I remember my life. I remember doing things with them, things before I lost my memory. I remember coming to Avonlea. I remember when I put on a dress. I remember when my father and Muriel got married. I remember it all," all of a sudden she became afraid to speak, "I remember Felix."
William didn't know who Felix was. I knew that Izzy had lost her memory, but he didn't know anything about her life before that. He hadn't heard people talk about Felix King because he never spent much time in the village, "Who is Felix?"
"Felix King," Izzy began, "Is the man I love."
