CHAPTER 1

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

Katara rolled out of bed and let out a groan; tonight was going to be one of the biggest shows of her singing career. She felt a mix of excitement and nerves about her job. It was fulfilling, but also had its dangers. Her friends always advised her to take more safety precautions and be more cautious, but she didn't want anything holding her back. Trying to push those thoughts aside, she got up, stretched, and was about to check her social media when she heard two sharp knocks at the door.

"Come in, mom," she said, already knowing who it was. Her mom was not only her manager but also her biggest supporter. Kya always pushed her to reach her limits and played a significant role in her success.

"Katara! Why haven't you called the stylist yet?" her mother almost screamed.

"Mom, relax. I wanted to have a peaceful morning before doing that, and besides, it's still early," Katara replied.

Kya sighed, "Fine. I also wanted to let you know that your dad and I are proud of you."

Tears welled up in Katara's eyes as she closed the distance between them and hugged her mom tightly. "Thank you, mom. I really appreciate it."

Her mom patted her shoulder as they separated. "And one more thing, now that you're becoming more popular, your brother won't be able to accompany you all the time."

Katara looked at her mom curiously, trying to figure out where she was going with this.

Kya continued, "So, your dad and I have decided to hire a bodyguard for you."

Katara couldn't believe what she was hearing. She wanted to scream at her mom for suggesting the idea of having a stranger watch over her every day, invading her privacy. She had always struggled with anger issues, and unfortunately, they were starting to resurface.

Furrowing her brows and crossing her arms, Katara firmly said, "No!"

Kya was taken aback by her daughter's outburst. She knew Katara never wanted to be seen as weak, but she had to reason with her.

Katara, I need you to understand," pleaded her mom, "this is all about your safety. We will thoroughly check the background of each applicant."

Katara was seething with anger, wanting to make her mom see things from her perspective. "Mom, I don't need protection. My friends are always with me," she insisted.

Kya was growing impatient. "Katara, things will change. This person will have the responsibility to watch over you constantly."

"You mean they'll be all up in my business!" She retorted.

Katara knew her mom had a point, but she didn't want her privacy invaded. She glanced at her mom and saw the concern in her eyes, and her features immediately softened.

"Alright, I'll agree to the bodyguard... but only if things take a turn for the worse tonight, or if I feel like I'm being watched or followed," Katara conceded.

Although Kya wasn't thrilled about the conditions, she agreed. It was the closest to a yes she would get from Katara, and she understood that.

"Alright, little penguin, I love you. Now, let your stylist come and get you ready for the day," her mom said with a smile.

"Love you too, mom," Katara replied, hugging her mom before walking away, impressed by her mom's persuasive skills.

After a couple of hours, Katara was all set for the day and made her way downstairs for breakfast. The table was already arranged with the most exquisite dishes, and she didn't have to lift a finger to prepare anything. The Hopkinson's were known as one of the wealthiest families in Republic City, second only to the Beifongs. It all began when her grandfather won a life-changing lottery. Despite their wealth, her parents remained humble and instilled in her and her brother the importance of hard work. Although she wanted to move out on her own, her mother insisted she wait a year to plan a well-thought-out transition. Her mother always preferred to plan things meticulously.

Sometimes, Katara would even offer to cook and clean occasionally, much to the maids' annoyance. On the other hand, her brother used his status to impress girls and occasionally let it get to his head.

"Katara! Are you in there?" Her brother waved in her face, interrupting her thoughts. "

"Yes, Sokka, stop yelling, it's too early for that."

Don't blame me when you're daydreaming, you seem to be doing that a lot lately. Any boys I should know about?"

"Sokka, if you don't quit it, I'll pour cold water on you while you're asleep, and I'll also spill your big secret to Suki!" Katara warned playfully.

Sokka was horrified and swallowed hard, knowing exactly what secret she was referring to; him pleasuring himself under the sheets to Suki's photos. He was utterly embarrassed when his sister burst into his room to wake him up and caught him. Since then, she had been using it as leverage.

"Ok ok! I'm done, long as you don't involve Suki". Katara laughed, knowing fully well she had him wrapped around her fingers.

"Ok I won't… for now". She walked over to start her breakfast leaving a pouting Sokka.

Katara stood backstage, listening to the thunderous applause of the audience who had gathered to watch her and other celebrities perform. She never thought of herself as a full-fledged celebrity, but she was on her way. Music had always been her passion, starting out as a hobby. She never imagined she would have so many fans, and maybe even a few enemies who envied her; the thought made her shudder, remembering her mother's warnings.

"Katara, are you ready, love?" Her stage manager Keri inquired interrupting her musing.

"Absolutely! Let's do this!" Katara exclaimed, though she couldn't shake off her nerves.

Her microphone was securely fastened to her outfit as she dashed onto the stage. She sang a mix of upbeat originals that got the crowd hyped up, followed by some slow songs that had everyone swaying and enjoying the music.

"Are you all having a great time tonight?!" Katara shouted into the mic.

Yes!" The crowd roared in response.

Katara was sweaty but thrilled to see her hard work paying off as the audience enjoyed her songs. She was just about to announce one final song when the sound of gunshots pierced the air.

Everything happened in a blur. The audience scattered in panic, screams filled the air. Katara was frozen in place, unable to move. She looked down to see blood seeping from her abdomen, feeling dizzy and lightheaded. Her mother's words echoed in her mind before everything went black.

A/N: cliffhanger! lol guess she gonna need a bodyguard after all. Who knows. Please review, I'm new to this so please be kind.
