Better Lover Story Than Twilight

XXX

It's Saturday night and after another successful Bash At The Bench. For Molly Walker, it's one of the most important nights for her. Why? It's her Junior High Prom. A prom that Devon unfortunately agreed to attend and be the 13 year old's date to a function that is going with a Twilight Theme. As much as he tried to get out of it, he finds himself sitting in a limo that he rented out. Why not pull in style, he thought to himself at the time. In any case, he's sitting there with his beautifully dressed teenage "date" sitting right beside him. Her left arm hooked around his right. A wide smile from ear to ear. While sitting there, Devon can't help but quirk his right brow concerning this whole unbelievably crazy situation causing him to mentally struggle with whatever he's thinking. It's at that point, he looks to his left and speaks up.

"I still don't think this is kosher, babe?" he wondered, expressing considerably worry in his tone of voice.

The oldest Bartowski sibling directs a humorous smile towards her husband. "Its fine, Devon." Ellie waved off. "You're doing this for Molly. Just for tonight."

"I'm coming to take pictures..." Sarah pointed out, humorously smiling as well. She is sitting beside her friend and colleague. "…since you didn't want Mom there. Really, brat?"

"I have my reasons." she answered back, staring at her older sister.

Sarah just arches her right brow towards her youngest sister. Her attention would then be directed to the woman sitting beside her. A familiar face leaning forward and speaking up. "Remember, you're Dr. Carlisle Cullen." Alex noted, as a reminder for Devon. "He's Edward Cullen's adoptive father..."

For Devon, he was completely flabbergasted when it comes to Twilight and the characters. He had to actually Google the information and with the help of Ellie chose a suitable character to become since the theme for the Junior High Prom is from apparently the 3rd Twilight movie. Fortunately for her, she contacted an expert who knew about all things Twilight and that person was Alex McHugh. Among all the characters, he felt he was more suited with Dr. Carlisle Cullen played by Peter Facinelli in the movie. From what he was able to gather from researching and briefly talking with Casey's daughter, he found out the character is considered the level headed patriarchal leader of the Cullen clan and a doctor, which he was absolutely thankful for.

God forbid if the choice wasn't his to make he would have ended up being one of the werewolves. Granted, he does look quite awesome shirtless, but he doesn't consider it appropriate knowing there will be so many young impressionable children there. More importantly young girls. He's not a piece of meat, he thinks to himself. The mere thought of being ogled by young school girls causes his face to faintly cringe leads him to become increasingly uncomfortable, which doesn't bode will with his current state of mind. Yet, he hearkens back to his wife words of how it's only for tonight. So, he repeats those words over and over in his head.

His attention would be directed back at Alex as she been speaking on about the patriarch of the Cullen clan. "…He was born in the mid-17th century to an Anglican pastor father. He's an extremely moral person and detested being a vampire and tried to destroy himself. Ultimately, he realized he didn't have to be a monster and could feed on animals, just as he did when he was a human. This discovery allowed Carlisle to throw himself into learning and after 200 years of practice and study he developed the self-control necessary to be able to work as a doctor and surgeon without feeling any urge to feed on human blood. Much of Carlisle's early life as a vampire was lonely, which is why he decided to change dying humans whom he encountered in his work as a doctor, like Esme and Edward, into vampires. Carlisle is described as calm, dignified, and extremely diplomatic."

"That's awesome…" he stated out loud, inevitably glancing down at Molly. "…I guess. So, doctor. I can pull that off…" he added, expressing an uncomfortably sheepish smile. "…since I am one." he nodded, nervously. You certainly know your stuff, Alex."

"What can I say, I'm a huge nerd when it comes to reading the books written by Stephanie Meyer. Plus, you do have that whole Carlisle Cullen demeanor down." she said, waving her hand up and down towards him.

In response, Devon can't help but express a mixture of confusion, dread, fear, and everything else in between because he has absolutely no idea what will be in store for him once he enters the Junior High Prom. Of course, when it comes to his own experiences of attended his own Junior High Prom back in the day, he can't help but for a moment expresses a faint smirk then it fades. He quickly realizes that he's so not in an awesome situation reality and that it's too late to back out of it now.

In that instance, Morgan leans forward and chimes in. "Trust the expert. I would." he instated, flashing Alex a smile.

While Devon is sitting there mentally spiraling, Sarah is glad that there's another fellow nerd in the group and even though they're two completely different fandoms it has brought the two of them closer as friends. The two of them nerding out whenever the both of them have a chance to hang out at work or during their off hours together just being goofballs. In that moment, she hearkens back to the conversation she had earlier with her father concerning being her true self. How she spent most of her childhood and relationships being someone that she wasn't.

Now that she's finally been able to break free thanks to the efforts of Dr. Dreyfus, she's truly embraced her inner nerd and not afraid to say or do things that don't seem to match the outside personality, especially individuals looking from the outside in. Instead of hating herself each time she looks in the mirror, she now loves being who she is without having to defend or explain herself concerning what or who she's passionate about. The reason she's being able to open up and be passionate is because of Chuck, which leads her to bring up a question.

In that instance, Sarah gets Morgan's attention and asks a pertinent question. "Where's Chuck? He said he'd be coming since he is part of the chaperone group."

"He had to make a pit stop first." shrugged the bearded one. "Don't worry. He's coming and he wouldn't miss this for the world." Morgan added, with a considerable reassurance on his part.

"He better…" Ellie declared, causing Sarah to look over her right shoulder. "…he's the one who suggested the idea of being chaperones. Plus, Clara is with Devon's parents so we're making the most of the free time we're able to get."

There's a momentary pause, then the beautiful blonde returns his attention to Morgan. "Chuck's not doing another makeover is he? One is enough." Sarah questioned once again.

Morgan shrugs his shoulders once again in response to the whereabouts of his hetero life partner. His attention would subsequently be broken by sound of a very giddy and exuberant 13 year old girl getting everybody's attention.

"We're almost there!"

"Awesome." he responded. Morgan then points directly to Devon getting his attention. "Awesome, get into character."

"Right. Wait…" responded a baffled Devon, raising both eyebrows. "…what!? I have to get into character!?" he added, quickly turning his attention to Molly. A look of terrifying confusion and horror mixed together.

"Nah. You just have to stand there and look awesome." Molly answered back, with a gleaming smile. "Boy, my friends will be so jealous!" she excitedly exclaimed. It's at that point the 13 year old suddenly raises her right arm and takes several shots of the two of them. Afterwards, she starts texting away. "Dr. Carlisle and Esme Cullen are on the way." she softly breathed out. Meanwhile Devon's head is back on the seat with his left hand over his face as they're getting close to the location of the Junior High Prom.

"It feels like you're setting me up, Chuck." Jack said, in a question manner.

The two men are stepping out the front entrance of Westside Medical Center. Jack is wearing light blue hospitals scrubs with disposal slippers on his feet since the suit/shoes he was wearing were "accidentally" thrown away. At least that's what one of the nurses from the emergency room told Chuck, but he knew better knowing how word spread throughout the hospital of the incident that occurred involving Sarah a couple weeks ago. In any case, the former patriarch of the Walker family is walking side by side clearly questioning the nerdy individual's motives.

"I'm not. Take my word for it."

In that moment, Jack stops in his tracks to let those sink in. A few seconds later, he catches up to the man her oldest daughter is dating. "Take your word? Only a fool would say that."

Chuck briefly glances at Jack then expresses a faint chuckle. "I guess you can call me a fool then. Besides, I talked to Chief Beckman and you've been approved to leave the hospital." he shared, inevitably stopping to face him. "Only for tonight and I'm the one responsible for you."

"Really." Jack responded, quirking his right brow. "I don't buy it."

"Or…" he emphasized, holding up his right finger. "…I can take you back and you can spend the rest of the night in your hospital room doing whatever is you've been doing. You're choice." Chuck firmly suggested, then continues on his way to the parking lot.

Jack stands there for a moment once again contemplating his choice as he looks back and forth from Chuck to the hospital. While doing so, he experiences a surge of pain once again causing him to hunch instead of completely double over all the while exuding a cringe worthy expression on his face. A few seconds later, the pain subsides and his choice is eventually made leading him to step forward and quickly catches up to Chuck once again.

"What's your angle, Schnook?"

"Angle?" humorously chucked, the nerdy business owner. "Not everybody you meet has to have an angle, Jack."

Upon hearing that, Jack briefly eyes the man he's walking side by side with and furrows his eyebrows towards him. After a few moments of silence he speaks up. "That how I do business."

"Did business. That's the thing Jack…" retorted Chuck. "…you're not in politics anymore. You're a man whose now been provided a clean slate. A second chance to do something positive and make a difference." he added, with a sense of encouragement in his voice. "You're like Rorouni Kenshin."

"Who?"

"Anime character. Kenshin Himura. His real name is Shinta. He was a feared for being a skilled swordsman and an assassin. He was known as "Hitokiri Batosai" or "Batosai the Manslayer". In a way, you're similar to him, but instead of a sword, you use words to assassinate the credibility of good and decent people trying to make a difference."

"I like the sound of this Kenshin guy?"

"He changed as a character."

"Why?

"It was due to his first love and wife, Tomoe. Her death was by his hands as she was trying to save him from his enemy after she unfortunately betrayed him because she was working for Kenshin's enemy all along. Anyways, this broke him and combined with seeing people suffer because of the Japanese Revolution caused him to take a vow to never kill again. It because of this that he wields a reverse-blade sword. Plus, an X like scar on the left side of his cheek to remind him of his vow. He became a lone wanderer after that." he further shared.

"Why are you even telling me all this?" questioned the former high profile spin doctor.

"Sarah."

"What about her?"

It's at that point Chuck stops at the edge of the sidewalk leading to the crosswalk in order to face Jack. "Look, she'd kill me if you know about this, but she's no longer angry at you."

"So…she's forgiven me?"

Chuck shakes his head in response. "I didn't say that. What I'm saying is…" He pauses momentarily to gather his thoughts in order to properly articulate what he's trying to say so that Jack doesn't misconstrue his words. "…don't blow it. The both of you have come a long way from the time you unexpectedly arrived to now. In a sense, it's been a hellish war emotionally and verbally between the two of you." he firmly described. "There's a metaphorical X like scar on your cheek reminding you of all the "death"…" he conveyed, in air quotes. "…pain, and suffering of all the unfortunate victims in your past. One of those unfortunate victims is Sarah."

A momentary silence is shared between the two men with Jack taking the time to let Chuck's words sink in. In his mind, he can't quite believe what he's hearing to the point where he potentially has some kind of actual true blue honest to goodness Boy Scout standing in front of him. For him, its guys like Chuck that he can in all intents and purposes eats for breakfast because of how easily he can mentally manipulate these kinds of people. Yet, as much as he wants to he doesn't and in an oddly strange way wants believe he doesn't have an angle to play. That thought last for only a few seconds.

"Is this your way of trying to get in good with me? Get my permission or blessing to someday marry my daughter?"

In that instance, Chuck doesn't say a word right away. Instead, he just shakes his head knowing he can't change his way of thinking. Only he can do that. "It doesn't matter whether I have your permission or blessing."

"Why is that?"

"I love your daughter. She loves me." he answered back, locking eyes with Jack. He said those words with utmost confidence in his voice and without even batting at eye. "It's ultimately her decision if she wants to marry me. Hell, if she was the one to propose to me I'd gladly say yes." Chuck added, expressing his unmistakable toothy smile. Before he steps off the sidewalks he says one last thing. "Don't end up becoming a lone wanderer."

Afterwards, the youngest Bartowski sibling nods then turns to step off the sidewalk onto the crosswalk heading towards the parking lot leaving Jack standing there by himself. While standing there a moment watching her oldest daughter's boyfriend walk off heading to his car, an indescribable smirk and faint glint in his eyes are expressed as he slightly tilts his head to the left. He breathes out a soft chuckle as he steps forward then painfully steps down on to the crosswalk in order to catch up with Chuck.

For Devon, everything he imagined in his head regarding being Molly's "date" to her Twilight themed Junior High Prom did come true as he was immediately swarmed by Molly's friends once they entered the gymnasium of her middle school. It absolutely felt uncomfortable for him as he was stared at by the gaggle of young girls and some adult single teachers who wanted to dance with him as well. Of course, his presence seemingly made the middle school boys dressed as wolves or vampires there in attendance feel threatened and seem inadequate by comparison causing them to snarl and/or stare at him.

Thankfully, the chaotic excitement died down. After taking several pics with Molly's friends along with turning down a few requests for a date by single teachers informing them he was married inevitably pointing to his wife, which they responded by voicing their disappointment. A few moments later, he returned to Ellie who was totally amused by the whole situation. It wasn't just her as Sarah, Morgan and Alex were getting a kick out of his unfortunate situation.

Although Devon was considerably overwhelmed by his uncomfortable experience, it didn't completely deter him from having a good time. In any case, after several upbeat and face paced dance songs, the DJ slowed it down for the kids to pick their dance partners with Devon taking with the opportunity to dance with his wife while Morgan dances arm in arm with Alex. This would leave Sarah standing off to the side by the snacks and drinks watching everybody else have a good time. A few seconds go by before she turns around and slides over to the punch bowl to quench her thirst.

Once she gets and takes a sip of some fruit juice concoction, she suddenly feels a tap on her right arm. She turns around thinking it could be Chuck finally showing up. It isn't as her line of sight lowers to see one a junior high boy nervously look up at her.

"Yes, can I help you?" questioned Sarah, softly smiling down at the young boy.

He doesn't answer right away as he briefly looks back over his right shoulder, which Sarah takes notice of as she sees a number of junior high boys or in this particular case a pack of werewolves huddle together. She can't help but find it adorably cute and flattered at what she thinks he's probably standing in front of her to ask.

"Would you like to dance…" he requested, nervously. "…with me." the young man added, pointing to himself.

"What's your name and are you a vampire or a werewolf?"

"St…Stewart..." he stammered out. "…and I'm a werewolf."

Sarah's soft smile became even softer after hearing that. "Well Stewart…"

It's at the point, Chuck appears and stands on Sarah's right side. "She would be honored, Stewart. The thing is though, her dance card has already filled. Hey babe, sorry I'm late." he said, leaning over to kiss her on the cheek.

Stewart quickly turns around and makes his way back to his huddled pack. They immediately disperse leaving the nerdy couple to stand there watching the whole thing unfold before their very eyes.

"You got an admirer, Ms. Walker."

"He took his shot at least, Mr. Bartowski. Besides….Sarah grinned expressively, directing his full attention to the man standing in front of her. "…I only have eyes for one man." She added, arching her right brow.

"It's me right. Hey, I'm sure Stewart has a lot going for him. I know he's young and got that werewolf vibe going for him. Plus…"

Chuck would be interrupted as his attention and Sarah's would inevitably be directed to someone else appearing before them.

"It's about time you showed up." Molly stated, with her arms crossed.

"I wouldn't miss this for the world, Mol. Did you get pics and vids with Captain Awesome?"

"Of course I did." the 13 year old grinned.

"Awesome. Can't wait to see them posted later. Would you care to dance?" he asked, doing a slight bow then extending his right hand.

Molly accepts his offer and taking his right hand then sticks her tongue out at her older sister. A snarky grin expressed afterwards. Her snarky grin then slowly disappears turning into shocked surprise and is about to say something, but her mouth is covered by the nerdy business owner.

"I see how it is?" questioned Sarah in amusement, quirking her right brow toward Chuck.

"Like I said…" Chuck nodded, leading Molly to the dance floor. "…your dance card has already been filled." he added, expressing his toothy smile towards her.

A few seconds later, she feels a presence standing to her left. It's Jack. A mixture of emotions are felt right now standing there from shock, confusion to surprise. Her attention is then directed to Chuck who is arm in arm on the dance floor with Molly. She shakes her head in disbelief, but then an eventual soft smile is

"I didn't escape if that's what you're thinking. Your boss approved it. All Schnook's doing." he stated, motioning with his head towards the nerdy individual responsible.

"I know." Sarah breathed out, smiling.

In that instance, Jack doesn't say a word. Instead, he reaches up and extends his right hand for a dance. Sarah momentarily stands there staring at her father's hands then at the man who tilts his head to the left expressing a grin towards her. It seems like forever, but Sarah finally responds by taking his hand leading father and daughter heading to the dance floor. It's awkward at first because it's been years since they've danced together, but that awkwardness would settle down to the point where they're able to look each other in the eyes. "This could be the only chance I get to dance with my daughter."

"Don't say that. The surgery will go fine."

"I'm not talking about the surgery. I'm talking about you and me." Jack retorted, taking a moment to deep breath. "This. Will it change or stay the same?"

"I honestly don't know."

"Do you want it to change?" questioned Jack.

"A part of me does…" Sarah softly replied. "…but the other part of thinks you're going to revert back to your old ways." she added, shaking her head.

There's a brief silence shared between the two of them as father and daughter continue to dance together. The silence would subsequently be broken by Jack as he speaks up. "You have every right to think that. Yeah, I didn't exactly have a great track record being the father I should have been." He pauses for a second then continues on. "Being around when you needed me the most. The truth is, I never thought my little girl would settle for the life you've chosen for yourself."

After taking deep breath, Sarah speaks up. "It ended up choosing me. I found a good home here, Jack. A place where I've settled in and made a difference with a boss who I truly learned from. Awesome friends who have had my back. Real friends and…"

"Chuck."

Sarah simply nods expressing a satisfyingly happy smile. In that instance, Jack scans the dance floor seeing her friends/colleagues laughing, dancing, and just having a fun. So much fun that a dance battle ensues between Chuck and his shorter bearded friend. Thankfully for him, Copface isn't anywhere in sight or maybe he is and he's just hiding in plain sight just waiting to strike, he thinks to himself. He shakes that particular thought out of his head and briefly reflects back on the past few days. His focus then falls on Chuck who is dancing with his youngest daughter. His attention then returns to Sarah.

"I'm sorry. All that I ever put your through."

For Sarah, it's two words that's been a long time coming for her to hear. It's the way he said with such genuine sincerity in his voice that tells her it's actually coming from the bottom of his heart instead from out of his ass. In her mind, the therapy sessions with Dr. Dreyfus have been helping tremendously to the point where she finds herself at this very point. A point in which she's letting go of her anger and does the one thing she thought she'd never do involving her father.

"I forgive you…" She pauses momentarily mentally deciding whether to say it or not. Sarah, makes up her mind to say it. "…dad." Sarah softly, added.

"Thanks, darlin'."

"What are you going to do now? You're back to square one." she wondered.

"Don't worry about me. You're old man will bounce back..." Instantly, Jack sees a questionable look expressed on his daughter's face. "…the right way." he added, with reassurance.

After dancing with her father and having a much needed talk between the two of them, Sarah was able to get her dance with Chuck. Although, she wanted to when he finally showed up he thoughtfully and graciously gave up his chance to dance with her so that Jack could be given the opportunity to. In any case, as the night continued on Devon, Ellie, Morgan and Alex would find themselves sitting down at the table taking a breather with Jack joining them. He's not really contributing to the conversation as he is just sitting there listening. Of course, it was a complete surprise to them of his arrival and informed them that it wasn't his idea to come but Chuck's after getting it approved by Chief Beckman. In any case, as they are all relaxing and pretty much letting the kids have the dance floor, a discussion takes place that is primarily started by Morgan.

"I'm just saying…" The bearded on holds up both hands. "… if you really think about it Bella was just a confused emo, angst ridden, young girl who really couldn't choose between 2 bad boys. A good looking dead guy and a good looking guy who can be scratched behind his ears."

"I wouldn't necessarily describe Bella as emo. More like depressed for not have the will to go on with life without Edward who gave her up." Alex shared.

"She got dumped." Morgan stated, ever so bluntly.

"Well…yeah." Alex reluctantly nodded. She then continues on. "She ended up becoming an empty, lifeless shell and that's when Jacob was there for her."

"That doesn't sound awesome." retorted Devon, shaking his head. "I just hope Clara doesn't get into any romantic entanglements like that with any boys." he added, turning his attention to Ellie sitting beside him.

"She's 6."

"They can start young, babe." he retorted, raising both eyebrows.

In that instance, amused laughter is expressed is shared amongst the 4 individuals. However, Jack is just sitting there utterly befuddled concerning the whole discussion involving something that he doesn't know anything about. He's truly thankful that he doesn't because the mere description of what's been shared is most definitely mind numbingly awful, he thinks to himself. His thoughts abruptly end when he hears Chuck's bearded best friend speak up again.

"Hey, I think we can all can agree that when it comes to Chuck and Sarah, they have Bella and Jacob or Bella and Edward beat by a mile. Those two have a better love story than Twilight." he firmly insisted.

"By the way…" Ellie said, with curiosity. "…where are those two?" she added, looking around to try to locate the nerdy couple.

Speaking of the nerdy couple, they are talking a walk outside as the Junior High Prom festivities are going on inside. The two are hand in hand as they stop to look up at the stars that can be clearly seen in the night sky. After staring up at them for a few moments in absolute amazement, it's Chuck who brings up a question to Sarah.

"I take it everything between you and Jack has been settled?"

"He said he was sorry and I forgave him."

"Wow. Awesome. That's a big step." he answered back, with surprised shock.

"For the both of us." she softly retorted, with an appreciative smile. Sarah briefly reflects back on the moment while standing side by side with Chuck. "Thank you."

"You're welcome." There's a momentary pause on his part before he continues on. "I'm glad we all decided to do this."

"Yeah, me too."

Chuck glances behind him after hearing muffled music continuing to go on inside. "I remember my Junior High Prom."

"Me too. Who did you go with?"

"Vivian…" Chuck answered. "…as friends though. After a number of the girls I asked turned me down. I was in my nerdy awkward phase."

"You still are." jokingly remarked Sarah.

In response, Chuck simply shakes his head. "How about you." he asked, as they continue to walk.

"Nothing memorable. Just hung out with my friends mostly." It's at that point, Sarah suddenly notices that they're walking by the parked limo they came to the Junior High Prom in and the limo driver nowhere in sight. Afterwards, she briefly glances at Chuck standing next to her to which she comes to a dead stop much to the surprise of her nerdy companion.

"Sarah?"

She doesn't say a word as the beautiful blonde check's the passenger side door and it's open much to her and Chuck's surprise. In that instance, a devilish grin appears on her lips as she opens the door and gets inside leading Chuck to approach then hunches down in front of the open doorway of the limo. A look of confusion, curiosity and concern expressed on his face because he has no idea what's going on.

"I don't think…"

He doesn't get to finish his sentence as Chuck is pulled and inevitably disappearing into the limo with the door closed shut once he's inside. A few seconds later, the sound of mischievous laughter can be heard inside and needless to say the nerdy couple are currently experiencing a very unforgettable memory together at a Twilight themed Junior High Prom.

The Following Week...

Jack's surgery would happen after years of damage due to drinking, which he thought at one point was completely deadly in the water. Beforehand, a kidney specialist assigned to consult and perform the surgery sat down with the former patriarch of the Walker family and informed him the standard recovery is 3-7 days. Plus a whole assortment of information that was provided to him. After hearing all the information and everything he must stick to post-surgery, it sounded considerably overwhelming and not to mention scary for him as he truly experienced feeling a level of absolute uncertainty to the point where he felt like a mere mortal instead of a God amongst men.

Fortunately for him, he wasn't alone in this as Sarah would be there for him every step of the way before and after surgery. It would be time spent together getting to gradually know each other all over again more so for Jack than Sarah. The long standing absences are now in the past after settling things between the two of them with the help of Dr. Dreyfus to the point where the roles are now reversed. It's Jack who needs Sarah and she will be there for him when he truly needs her the most. Ultimately, a dark chapter in her life is closed and a new chapter opens with a whole new positive beginning between father and daughter.
