Chuck vs. The Courtyard Bench

Well, in the previous chapter: It's Friday and that means Bash At The Bench. Chuck introduces not 1 but 2 new Rockstar Rebels and they are twins. Max and Carter Hayes who are suffereing from Li-Fraumeni Syndrome. After getting to know them, it was time for Chuck to the dedication show, which was from the movie Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. The song is Brothers Under the Sun sung by Bryan Adams. In any case, Chuck's performance was effortless once again and afterwards he would have a conversation with Sarah. During that conversation, she was concerned about what she noticed about him during his conversation with the twins and he told her that he was fine. Chuck would then inform Sarah that he's ready to talk to Bryce. The following day they would find themselves on the 5th floor where the couple would be greeted by Bryce's manager Tommy. While talking to him, an individual from Sarah's past reveals himself. That individual is Cole Barker. So, what happens in this chapter? Here are the who, what, where, when why, how's? Who does Sarah bring up to Cole right out of the gate? What does Cole want to drink but is offered something else by Tommy after his conversation with Chuck and Sarah? Where does Chuck want to stick Bryce with Sarah's help that involves a a famous Bruce Willis movie. When does Chuck realize that Bryce knew something during his conversation that involved their former frat brother? Why does Bryce bring up the name Allan Watterman? How does Chuck react when someone from his past suddenly shows up out of the blue? Read and find out! I hope you enjoy the read and leave a comment to share your own thoughts on this particular chapters. As always, reviews are awesome.

Again, if you enjoyed reading my stories and left a comment, I truly appreciate it. Please continue to do so as it gives me the incentive to write more chapters.

Cole Barker. Orthopedic surgeon in the area of Sports Medicine. The James Bond and quintessential bad boy of surgeons to sport athletes that Sarah Walker was engaged to back in Washington D.C. That was 5 years ago and since then she's been able to move on with her life both literally, as well figuratively. In her mind, it's most definitely a positive transition. A transition where she had to deal with a vastly different working environment, certain employees who lacked work ethic, and made an unfortunate bad first impression with her now boyfriend who is a fellow nerd like her.

Five years later, she finds herself experiencing an unexpected and shocking surprise as she's standing in front of her ex-fiancé. A man who is right now expressing the same, arrogantly charming smirk through his scruffy beard that he's still sporting. It's part of the reason she fell for him back then, she thinks to herself. Unbeknownst to her, his relationship with him would end up nearly costing her to lose herself and becoming someone who Cole wanted her to be. The same situational pattern in regard to her own father, Jack Burton.

It's that particular thought in which the anger starts to build inside her to the point where she's about to speak up, but the orthopedic surgeon beats her to the punch, so to speak.

"You look absolutely smashing, darling." Cole breathlessly articulated, in his own British way. He leans back a bit eyeing Sarah with his light brown eyes and takes in every bit of her as if he's savoring her like an exceptionally fine wine. "You're still as beautiful as I remember." he added, giving a nod toward her.

For Sarah, the initial surprise and shock would quickly wear off leading the Chief Operating Officer of Westside Medical Center to immediately compose herself. Afterwards, she clears her throat then crosses her arms inevitably giving her response.

"Wow, I see you haven't lost your disarmingly devilish charm, Cole. As I remember." she firmly nodded back, briefly arching her right brow.

"Do you two know each other?" wondered Tommy, pointing back and forth between the two of them. "Also, I sense some hostility."

"I wonder why." Sarah venomously spitted back. This time her eyebrows are tightly furrowed after briefly glancing at Bryce's manager. "You're trying to butter my muffin?" A clear tone of disdain in her voice glaring at Cole while expressing a tight-lipped smile.

"In a way, I am." Cole responded, smirking innocently back.

"Like you buttered Amy's muffin?" she responded back. A small part of her Wildcard Enforcer persona making a sudden appearance.

It's at the point, Chuck quickly leans over to his right to intervene before the confrontation between the former couple escalates any further. Beforehand, he'd been awkwardly standing beside his blonde girlfriend waiting for her to introduce him or at least be acknowledged by Cole that he's standing right beside her. Unfortunately, he totally ignored him while being totally focused on his ex. When it comes to Sarah, she apparently was so caught up in then moment emotionally and quite possibly mentally that she probably forgot to introduce him, Chuck thinks to himself.

Of course, while standing there he quietly sized up the infamous Cole Barker and he's a tad bit taller than the surgeon who has a seemingly strong James Bond-esque look going for him. Add to that even stronger ruggedly chiseled jaw line to match causing his self-esteem to take a hit, in a manner of speak. It's not a tremendous hit because as much as he should be intimidated by the man, he remembers what type of guy he probably still is and how he saw Sarah more as beautiful arm candy than as an uniquely smart individual.

"Hi yo! Cole Barker…" Chuck briefly gives a quick but courteous wave. "…awesome to meet you." He then holds out his right hand for a handshake. "I'm Chuck…"

Chuck doesn't get to finish what he's about to say when Cole interrupts him and completely disregards the handshake. "Bartowski. I know who you are. You run a rather flourishing business called Kessel Run Technologies with some influential key investors backing you up. Very impressive. Plus, your sister and brother law work here at the hospital."

"That's right. How'd you know?" he answered back, slowly lowering his right hand.

"It's what I do as a surgeon when it comes to my patients." he replied back. Cole takes that moment to take his right hand out of his pants pocket to playful hit the side of Chuck's left shoulder.

The impact of that playful hit on the side of the nerdy business owner's left shoulder causes him to experience a bit of a jolt that nearly leads him to become off balance. Fortunately, he's able to recover and steady his balance to where he responds back to him. "I'm not a patient."

"Regardless." he responded, shrugging off Chuck's response. "I do my homework…" replied Cole with both hands now in his pants pockets. The experienced orthopedic surgeon then leans nonchalantly against the left side of the open doorway. Cole's attention averting from Chuck to focus mainly on Sarah. "… especially if it's someone who's dating my ex. She's quite a catch you know."

For a brief moment, Chuck is thrown off by how true Sarah's words are as the man standing or in this case leaning against the open doorway. Her words pertaining to how he truly has this devilishly disarming charm about him. In his mind, the old Chuck would have backed down and been intimidated by the fact that an old flame of Sarah's who is seemingly not bothered by the fact she's in a relationship. Furthermore, the mere fact that he isn't bother leads the tall, lanky nerd that she's missing out on what she could still have and that it was a mistake for her to break up with him.

Truth be told, there's a small part of him that feels that way and how he's never going to have the looks, as well as physique of James Bond. Suave, debonair and sophisticated he is not. He's more the trip over your own feet clumsy, unpolished, and incredibly unrefined type. However, the other part of him feels it's perfectly all right with him he doesn't look or act anything like 007, which Sarah is absolutely fine with. A guy who she loves for being able to see the real her and being able to understand her in every sense of the word. In that moment, he hearkens back to the conversation he had with her about not ever comparing himself to Cole. How, he should never see himself as just an ordinary person when Sarah seems him as a guy who make the ordinary look absolutely extraordinary. It's that thought in which he expresses a smile and gives his response back to Bryce's chose surgeon.

"She is quite a catch." he retorted. Chuck reaches down to intertwine his right hand with Sarah's left. In doing so, he manages to get Sarah's attention in order to lock eyes with her. "I'm a lucky man to have her in my life. She saved me. Actually…" he said, correcting himself. "…we saved each other."

A soft smile is expressed by Sarah. "We did." she breathed out.

In that instance, Chuck lifts his right hand that's intertwined with Sarah's right. He then softly kisses the top of her palm and momentarily lingers there with his eyes still locked with his blonde girlfriend. A few seconds later, he breaks eye contact with her and turns his attention to Cole who has been totally transfixed by their interaction.

"Also, I've managed to do my homework as well. Passed with flying colors..." His attention returns to Sarah. "…by seeing the woman she really is instead of what you want her to be."

Instant confusion is expressed on Cole's face. "What does that supposed to mean?"

Chuck doesn't say a word. Instead, he steps forward and motions for Sarah to join him as they enter Bryce's private room. Before doing so, the nerd stops in order to be face to face with Cole as he turns to steps aside allowing the two of them to pass.

"You didn't really do your homework then." he firmly stated.

The sound of faint laughter is heard, and the source is Sarah. Apparently, the moment those words left Chuck's mouth she found the well-deserved burn that's considered a deep cut to the experienced surgeon absolutely amusing causing her to unexpectedly chortle. The nerdy couple exchange smiles then enter his former Stanford roommate's private room. While doing so, Chuck returns the favor from earlier by giving a playful slap back to the side of Cole's left shoulder. Unfortunately, he doesn't end up being jolted to where Sarah's ex became off balance unlike him. He just stands there expressing a smirk that somehow reads that he's somewhat impressed.

Although Chuck's attempt was an utter failure, he hoped he was able to at least make a point. Plus, the awesome thing Sarah witnessed the entire thing go down much to her approval, as well as enjoyment. After disappearing inside, Cole is still standing there sporting an impressed smirk on his face as Bryce's private room's door slowly closes behind him. He briefly glances behind then turns his focus to the man standing out in the hallway with him.

"Let's get a drink." suggested Tommy. "We got some catching up to do."

"You read my mind." he replied, stepping forward. "Champagne?"

Tommy shakes his head then breathes a faint chuckle of amusement knowing his old friend/associate Cole Barker. "How about coffee?" responded the employee of FMT. "I'm sure you need a pick me up after a long trip." he added, taking into account the miles he's traveled.

"Lead the way." Cole answered back, giving a courteous nod. Both men walk off leaving Chuck and Sarah to talk privately with Bryce in his room.

XXX

"I'm here. You wanted to talk…" Chuck firmly stated, crossing his arms. He's standing underneath the room's television with Sarah right by his side. "…so talk. It's not like it's going to change anything between the two of us." he added, briefly shrugging his shoulders.

Bryce is sitting in his wheelchair with his knee brace wrapped tightly around his right knee. His crutches situated next to his bed in case he wants to walk around. After wheeling forward a bit, he stops and speaks up. "Straight to the point." He pauses for a moment then shoots a smile towards Chuck. "Come on. I come all this way out to the west coast, we get together, and have a few laughs." he jokingly remarked.

After hearing that, Chuck glances at Sarah before returning his attention back to Bryce. "You're not seriously quoting Bruce Willis/John McClane as he'scrawling in the vents of Nakatomi Plaza..." he retorted back, in disbelief. He furrows both eyebrows towards his former best friend and Stanford roommate. "…from the movie Die Hard right now are you?"

"I took a shot. Hey, you got to agree that it's hands down one of the best Christmas movies of all time. Although, some people would argue that it isn't." Bryce pointed out.

"Those people are idiots. It is a Christmas movie and..." Chuck suddenly stops himself and realizes Bryce is trying to suck him into a passionate debate that they've had in the past concerning a classic action-packed Bruce Willis movie. He then shakes his head in order to refocus. "Don't change the subject or I'll have Sarah stuff you in one of the hospital air vents and you have to find your way back to your room. You won't know which floor you're on either and it's going to be tough with your injured right knee. It's not like the vents of Naktatomi Plaza, but they'll do." he added, in a threatening manner.

Bryce is momentarily silent before he responds. "Ouch. I deserved that." he nodded. "Question."

"What?" groaned the nerdy business owner.

"Am I barefoot in this scenario since John McClane is barefoot through the entire movie?" he asked, trying to lighten the mood the best he can.

"Sure. Why not." he answered, briefly shrugging his shoulders. At this point, Chuck knows they're getting way off track from the main point of why he's actually there. "Listen, Sarah can be really scary when she wants to be. Just provoke me in any way and find out." Chuck warned. His attention turning to Sarah who shoots a small glimpse of her Wildcard Enforcer persona over to Bryce.

"Whoa." Bryce responded, backing up a bit in his wheelchair. "Look, I don't doubt her abilities one bit or how truly scary she is." he added, giving a respectful nod toward her. "I just want…"

Chuck immediately interjects. "What do you want? Forgiveness? Fine. I forgive you. There…." he said, stepping forward. "…are we done? Awesome, we both can move on with our lives." he added. A tone of anger expressed in his voiced as he turns then heads towards the door.

Unfortunately, he doesn't get very far as Sarah steps in front of Chuck. "Hear him out." she softly urged, peering up at her nerdy boyfriend.

The couple lock eyes with each other for a brief moment. A few seconds later Chuck exhales out of frustration then takes a step back returning to the spot where he was previously standing. After briefly standing there, he shrugs his shoulders once again. "Well…"

"Thank you." Bryce nodded. His attention is then averted to Sarah. "You, most importantly."

"Don't thank me yet. You still have to convince Chuck why he should hear you out." she shared, knowing it was a tremendous longshot to get him here.

For her, being able to reconcile with her past regarding her father was considerably difficult knowing how stubborn and manipulative Jack Burton was. The anger and resentment she harbored was not only highly volatile, but also combustible, especially after he up and left the talk they were supposed to have in her office. She absolutely exploded confronting him. Thankfully, she was able to bury the hatchet with her father who was facing the end of his own mortality and with the help of Dr. Dreyfus their broken relationship was for the most part healed.

Thinking further, she'll probably need additional therapy with the unexpected arrival of her ex-fiancé who is most definitely going to make things rather difficult. She certainly knows how much of a charmer Cole is to the point where he'll attempt to ingratiate himself in Chuck's good graces and before he knows it the man she almost married has made himself comfortable inside his head. Mentally, as well as, verbally toying with her nerd to where he ends up second guessing himself and doubting whether or not he can actually give her a life that she's always dreamed of.

In her mind, she's already been given the life she's always dreamed of and all it took was to have her eyes truly opened by a guy who isn't out to fulfill his own selfish needs. He's put himself and his own happiness second in order to focus on bringing happy smiles/joyous laughter for others first who absolutely need it. An amazing man who selfless attitude whose kindness and caring generosity far surpasses anything that Cole Barker can try to ever achieve in his lifetimes. Essentially, it's a concept that is considered to be very foreign to the highly skilled surgeon.

While continuing to stand by Chuck's side, she thinks to herself that it's her time to look out for him. As much as he's been there for her along for the ride, so to speak, experiencing for himself the mental and emotional rollercoaster of Jack Burton, the one he's going through right now with Bryce Larkin is just the beginning and she has a front row seat for it sitting by his side. A front row seat where they'll potentially be unexpected twist and turns that they not only won't see coming but won't be able to be fully prepared in experiencing the immense impact of it all until being hit with head on like it did for her. Her painful memories cut deep, but the ones for Chuck possibly cut even deeper as it ended up leaving painful scars that gradually healed. Yet, they didn't have any resolution or closure for that matter. Maybe that will happen for him right now.

Her thoughts concerning the possibility of a finality and fractured friendship or in this close a brotherhood that began years ago are interrupted when Bryce speaks up.

"How well did you know Jill?"

"Like a book. Front to back. I spent more time with her than with you." he answered back.

"I knew her before you did."

"I know. You're the one who introduced me to her remember."

Bryce nods then remains briefly silent before speaking up again. "In hindsight, I regret doing that. There were things about her that she didn't tell you."

"You're lying. She shared everything with me." he retorted back, glaring at Bryce.

"Everything?" questioned Bryce, pushing himself forward just a bit.

"I know…" In that instance, Chuck corrects himself. "…knew Jill. She wouldn't hide anything from me." he added, shaking his head. A faint hint of doubt in his voice.

"That's the thing, Chuck. You didn't know her at all as she kept certain things hidden from you. From me as well." he ominously shared. He shakes his head as his attention is averted to the window leaving Chuck and Sarah hanging. "That's why I had to take measures into my own hands."

After saying that, Chuck and Sarah are now hooked as they briefly look at one another. Both of them turning their attention back to Bryce awaiting with curious anticipation of what sort of information involving Jill she's been hiding all these years that he has to possibly share with them. Whether or not Chuck believes him remains to be seen.

XXX

"What are you even talking about?" questioned Chuck, shaking his head. "What measures?" he added, quirking his right brow.

"Do you remember what I told you over and over again when you confronted me about going behind your back with Jill?"

"She seduced you." he dryly answered back. "I didn't believe you and our friendship ended right there."

"I also tried to tell something else before that, but you just wouldn't listen. You just kept talking and talking and talking." he stated, rolling eyes. While doing so, he holds up his right hand doing a talking motion.

This leads to Sarah expressing an amused chuckle causing Chuck to turn his head to look at her. "What? You do tend to ramble on when you get worked up."

In response, Chuck simply quirks his right brow towards Sarah. "I thought you were on my side." he whispered out.

"I am." the blonde whispered back.

The attention on each other would subsequently be broken when they look back at Bryce who is attempting and succeeding in doing a wheelie while sitting in his wheelchair. A few seconds later he suddenly notices the couple staring at him to where he carefully sets the front end of his wheelchair down then continues on like nothing happened.

"Anyways…" he said, crossing his arms. "…what you didn't know about Jill was that she wasn't the typical girl gamer nerd who was into playing Everquest when you met her. She dated a lot, and she was low key superficial when it came to the guys she got into relationships with. She also got into some trouble accumulating some highly expensive online gaming debt. She nearly lost all her scholarship money because of it."

"When!?" questioned Chuck, experience surprised shock on what he just learned. A sense of intense curiosity within the tone of his voice.

"During our sophomore year. Right around the time you were accused of cheating on Professor Fleming's final."

"He was framed by a jealous student and there was hidden camera video evidence of it. Got kicked out of Stanford because of it. You rallied support for Chuck when all this went down." Sarah shared.

"Chuck told you."

Sarah nods. "Why then didn't you give Chuck the head up about her?" questioned Sarah.

"I was going to, but I thought he would figure it out on his own. See the red flags pop up for himself." he explained. He takes a moment to take a deep breath then slowly exhale. Afterwards, he continues on. "I took Jill aside at one point early on in the beginning our junior year and had a serious talk with her after noticing a strong connection between the two of you." he added, reflecting back on that particular on.

In that instance, Chuck cracks a small hint of a smile as he suddenly remembers why there was a such a strong connection him and Jill. "I asked Jill to be my girlfriend before the start of our junior year."

"At the carnival, right? I figured." responded Bryce.

Chuck nods. "I remember…" He stops as if he's hesitant in wanting to remember that particular moment again and relive the emotions relating to it. His thoughts are interrupted when he feels Sarah's supportive and protective presence beside him. Her right hand, place softly on his left forearm.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" she softly inquired.

Once again, Chuck nods and after exchanging a soft smile with Sarah, he returns his attention back to Bryce. "

"I remember being scared and nervous at the same time. Scared because I'm scared of heights, but I go on the Ferris Wheel any way. I bribed the Ferris Wheel operator to stop at the top in order ask Jill to be my girlfriend. She found it incredibly cute and the rest as they say is history."

"What you didn't know was she and I had a talk."

"About what?"

"You." Bryce replied, pointing at Chuck. "I told her you were a real good guy. If she was going to be serious about the relationship, then be serious instead of dating for a while then dump him because she ends up being interested in another guy."

"That's where you come in." chimed in Chuck.

"Nope." the injured track star replied, shaking his head. "Does the name Drew Appleton ring a bell?"

Chuck is silent for a moment, which would lead Sarah to speak up. "Who is Drew Appleton?"

"Remember me telling you about guy who got kicked out of our fraternity because of gambling debts?" Chuck said, briefly glancing at his girlfriend.

"He's the guy?" responded a wide-eyed Sarah.

A nod is given in response once again by Chuck. Afterwards he continues on. "Wait. How does that even relate to Jill's situation?"

"When stuff started going missing from our frat house and nobody couldn't figure out who it was, I knew you'd end up doing something about it." Bryce shared.

"How?"

"It was written all over your face and I was right when I saw you going all spy detective placing mini cameras all over the frat house. The reason I know this is because I was using some spy glasses that I borrowed from a friend of mine in the mechanical engineering department. I told him that was doing him a favor in beta testing them out on the field."

"I knew you didn't need glasses!" Chuck blurted out, pointing directly at Bryce. "You said your eyes were going bad when I saw you suddenly wearing them."

"They weren't. Although, it did land me a fair amount of girl's numbers wearing those bad boys." he shared, expressing a proud smile.

"Of course, it did." responded Chuck, rolling his eyes once again. Afterwards, he refocuses his thoughts on the matter at hand. "So how did it all end up with me seeing you and Jill together?"

"Allan Watterman?"

Chuck shakes his head. "The name sort of rings a bell."

"It should because he's the son of Eric Watterman, the software millionaire that ended up becoming a billionaire and not to mention a major financial contributor to Stanford. Allan would end up eventually inheriting and potentially run his father's company years later. In any case, Watterman transferred to Stanford during our Junior year, and I mistakenly let that slip out to Jill about him. That's when the old Jill and her wandering eye started to return."

"How do you know all this?"

"I listened and paid attention on anything/everything going on when it came to campus life. Plus, I dated the college's dean of admissions' personal assistant, so..." Bryce shrugs his shoulders, expressing a sheepish smile afterwards.

Chuck shakes his head and rolls his eyes once again in response. After doing so, Sarah quickly chimes in. "It doesn't make sense, Bryce." she stated, shaking her head in confusion. "You could have told Chuck this. He needed to know."

"He wouldn't have believed me. Chuck was head over heels and madly in love with Jill. Whatever spell she placed on him could never be broken." he replied. "So, it was up to me to break the spell even if it meant ending up being the bad guy." Bryce shared, staring directly at Chuck.

XXX

For the past 5 minutes Chuck was standing in front the window of Bryce's private room with his arms crossed. A look of deep contemplation on his face as he's been internally struggling with the apparent bombshell that was laid on him concerning Jill. While standing there, he hearkens back to the conversation he had with Hartley in his office about his ex. A conversation that also had Hartley sharing with Chuck a phone conversation he had with Ellie. She saw the person she truly was, and you were blinded by the person you thought she was. She said she even tried to warn you about her. Your heart may have been blinded by the fact of who that harlot really was. Ignored the initial warning signs and red flags about her.

His thoughts are interrupted when he feels a hand placed on his left shoulder. That hand belongs to Sarah and as she softly rubs his left shoulder, she peers up at him to check if he's ok. In response, he expresses a soft smile of his own to convey he's for the most part fine. The moment between the couple is broken up by the sound of a clearing throat leading their attention to be averted to Bryce still sitting in his wheelchair now situated at the end of his hospital bed.

"You hacked my phone, right?"

"What makes you think I hacked your phone?" In response, Bryce simply shoots a "really" look towards his former roommate and best friend. Speaking of Chuck, he's briefly silent then shrugs his shoulders. "Okay, what if I did."

"IF you did..." repeated Bryce..." and I know you did then you probably have the file that was meant for you."

"For my eyes only? Like Mission Impossible. It's a mission and I'm Ethan Hunt. If I choose to accept, then what? I know you're telling the truth?" he stated, in question manner.

"Something like that." answered back Bryce. "Remember Zork? The tech-based video game that we created our own version of together using a TRS80?"

"The one I ended up finishing on my own when I started my company?" In that instance, he shakes his head. "You want your cut you feel you're owed, don't you?" he added, crossing his arms defiantly. "

Bryce shakes his head in response. "I don't care about the money. I'm glad you were able to finish it and make a profit from it. I'm proud of you."

"What then?" questioned Chuck, furrowing his eyebrows.

"Like I said, if you did hack my phone and haven't deleted anything then my half of Zork should be there. I made some changes. All your answers are in that file."

"For all I know, it's all a lie?"

"It could be..." replied Bryce. "...but if it's not, then you'll finally know the truth." he added, giving a firm nod.

There is a momentary silence between the former roommates before Check takes Sarah's by the hand and heads towards the closed door. However, before reaching it, the door suddenly flies open with someone barging into the room with the hospital's head of security following right behind the individual in question. That same individual blows passed the nerdy couple in order to locate their intended target...Bryce.

"How did you know I'd be here?"

"I'm your emergency contact." the person answered back, crossing her arms.

As Bryce and the person, he's presently focusing on are having a seemingly lively discussion between the two of them, Casey acknowledges Chuck and Sarah while keeping his eyes on the person he escorted to the room.

"Busted in like she's on the S.W.A.T. team." he grunted. "Kinda impressed." he added, expressing a faint smirk.

"You would be." remarked Sarah, somewhat amused.

Her attention on Casey inevitably averts to Chuck who she notices he's gone ghost white. He's also completely wide eyed as the person who suddenly barged into the room causes him to completely freeze in place. The concerned blonde girlfriend knows why because it takes her a few seconds to suddenly realize who the woman that barged into the room and standing in front of Bryce.

For Chuck, the weird tingling sensation that he felt in both hands on the beach return causing him to peer down at both his hands. He starts flexing his fingers then balls them into a fist. While standing there, he can feel his pulse racing, heart pumping harder, and rapidly increase. However, he does his best to take control of what's going on with him by closing his eyes. After a few seconds of taking some deep breathes his eyes open and takes a step forward in order to get the woman's attention.

"Jill!? Wha...what...are you doing here!?" he stammered out, in shocked surprise.

Jill turns her head experiencing surprised recognition seeing someone she hasn't seen in years. "Chuck!?" Wow..." she breathed out. "...I hardly recognize you. You cut your hair." she said, pointing to his head. Her attention then turns to the man sitting in the wheelchair down in front of her. "I'm here to see my husband." she answered back, pointing to Bryce. It's that announcement that causes Chuck and Sarah to express shocked surprised after hearing that piece of unexpected information to come out of Jill's mouth.
