Arrival on Veldin

Summer went down the stairs, having kissed her girls goodnight.

"It's not like you," Taiyang, coming down the stairs, spoke up, "To rush off on a mission in the middle of the night."

Summer sighed, but smiled, "You know how Ozpin gets. Mystery after mystery."

Tai smirked, "And, when it turns out to be another run-of-the-mill patrol, it'll be…"

Both, imitating Ozpin, then said, " "I always prefer discretion." "

The two laugh, though Tai's face grows concerned. Summer places a hand on his cheek.

"I'll be back soon."

The two hug each other.

"I know." Tai replies.

"I'm not sure how 'ten years later' is soon?" Blake snarkily replied.

"Yes, well," Clank replied, "She certainly wasn't expecting what happened."

"Strange," Oobleck said, rubbing his chin, "Ozpin was just as confused as the rest of us were when Summer went missing. I doubt that Ozpin would've lied about Summer's whereabouts."

"You are correct, Doctor Oobleck. It's because Summer was lying here."

Ruby and Yang's mouths dropped. Summer was the perfect model mother to them, one of them being that she never lied. At least, not to them or dad.

"Why would she lie about something like that?" Ruby questioned.

"Given what happened next, it only makes sense. At least, from what Summer has told me."

As Summer left the house, she went down the road heading to Patch. Halfway, a figure dropped from the treeline.

"Nobody suspects anything?" Raven questions.

"Wait, WHAT?!" Yang roars, her eyes briefly turning red.

"I had a feeling you'd react like that. Yes, your birth mother, Raven Branwen, went with Summer on her 'final mission'. In Summer's words, she 'dragged Raven out from her deadbeat camp'."

"Yes, that sounds like Summer." Oobleck replied.

Yang didn't know how to process that. The mother who abandoned her knew, all this time, what had happened to the mother who raised her. At the very least, she knew more than anyone else. And she didn't tell anyone?!

"No. They think it's a typical mission."

Raven smirks, "Summer Rose telling lies. First time for everything," her smirk falls, "And…uh…What about…You're just going to leave them?"

Summer scowled. "You're one to talk."

Raven sighs. "It's…You're better at that life. Better than I was…"

Summer walks past Raven, shoulder checking her.

"If I do this right, then there's nothing to worry about. Trust me."

Raven sighs, gripping her sword Omen. "Let's get it over with, I guess."

Raven opens a red portal, and the two step through. Due to the timezone difference, despite it being night back at Patch, it was dawn in Mistral. Summer didn't bother stopping, and just walked out of Raven's bandit camp, said partner following closely behind her. Walking for an hour, they reached the village of Kuroyuri. As they got closer, Raven wrapped up Omen in a leather casing. They walked through the gate, heading towards any open stores for supplies.

"You aren't worried anyone will recognize you?"

"People know my mask and sword, not the face attached to it."

Summer merely rolled her eyes. "Well, we're going to need more supplies if we're going against Salem, and I definitely won't take anything from your 'family'."

"I know."

"Wait, who's Salem?"

Clank, about to continue the story, froze up at Ruby's words.

"..."

"..."

"...Clank?"

"Oh dear. I…didn't mean to mention her."

"Wait, why?" Weiss questioned, "If this Salem is what caused Summer to go missing, then-"

"No, Miss Schnee, rather, she's a woman that Summer doesn't want most people to know."

"Well," Yang shrugged, "You already started, may as well finish."

Clank sighed, "Very well, but only if you all swear to never speak about this woman to anyone. Not without Ozpin's permission first."

"Ozpin?" Oobleck exclaims.

"Yes. When asked about why Summer wants that name kept quiet, she said 'Ozpin knows best on who should know about Salem, and who shouldn't'."

The five of them turned, nodding to each other.

"We promise." Ruby declares. Clank smiled.

"What I know is only from Summer, but, to explain, Salem is a very dangerous woman, who's been around for centuries, possibly thousands of years. Worse yet, she has control over the creatures you call Grimm."

"What, like a Grimm Queen?" Weiss said incredulously.

"That's what Ratchet said, to which Summer said he was close."

"Ratchet?" Blake questioned.

"Someone I'll be introducing soon."

"So, this Salem," Oobleck leaned in, "Is she a woman that was turned into a Grimm, or a Grimm that's taken the form of a woman. Because I see no way she could control the Grimm without being one of them."

"...Summer herself doesn't know. But she didn't care one way or another. Summer saw her as a threat, and wanted to take her out. Though, it didn't end up any way they expected."

After a couple hours, they had purchased enough supplies for a week, the two exit a shop, only for Summer to notice a blue glowing streak above the village, with a small, blue eyed creature.

"Hey, Raven, you see this?"

Raven looks up. "I see a blue mist, but nothing else."

"So you don't see the floating creature inside that blue mist."

Raven raised an eyebrow. "Creature. Sums, there's nothing there."

The creature flew off, away from the village.

"Come on!" Summer then started running after it. Raven groaned, assuming another one of Summer's antics. After some time, Summer came across…she wasn't sure what it was.

It looks like a warped mirror, with blue cackling energy. It was completely flat, yet, as Raven tried to circle around it, it seemed to rotate in perfect sync with her The strange creature circled around it.

"Must fix." It declared, its hands glowing.

"Summer!" Raven yelled, catching, "What could possibly…" Raven saw the mirror, "Um…huh."

"Yeah, that thing is hovering around it."

"What thing?"

"The creature, around the…mirror, or whatever it is."

"Summer, I think this might be a 'you' thing, if you catch my drift."

Summer did consider that it might be related to her silver eyes. However, what exactly is it? She didn't get much time to ponder, as the creature then entered the mirror, disappearing.

Summer pulled out Sundered Rose, and slowly approached the mirror, now clearly a portal.

"Sums, are you sure this is a good idea?"

"Probably not, but, since it's too close to the village, I'd like to know what it is, so we can warn them."

Raven rolled her eyes, but kept a hand on the handle of Omen.

Summer got close, and inched Sundered Rose to the portal. The instant a microinch of her axe touched it, she was suddenly pulled forward. Summer dug her feet into the dirt, but her arm was already in the portal.

"Summer!" Raven cried out, sprinting towards her.

"Raven!?" Summer screamed, as the vortex of force was too much, lifting her off her feet, and dragging her into the portal, "Rae?! RAE!"

"SUMMER!"

Summer was sucked into the portal…

And was in free fall.

"Wait! What?"

Summer was several hundred feet above the ground, and falling fast. Turning her body, she saw the portal above her, the little creature around it, hands glowing. She quickly threw her axe up, sending it flying towards it. Her body began to cackle with white energy.

The axe was mere feet from the portal…and the portal close. Summer gasped in horror. The creature's hands stopped glowing.

"Fixed!" It happily declared, before it disappeared.

The portal was gone.

The portal was gone.

Summer then remembers Raven's semblance. Using her own Semblance, her axe turned to white energy, and reformed right next to her.

"Alright, Rae. Anytime, now."

As she saw the ground was slowly getting closer and closer, Summer realized Raven wasn't coming to her rescue. She'd have to chew her out when she lands. But, first…as the orange cliff sides started to get closer, she threw her axe towards the nearest plateau. When the axe impacted the ground, Summer's body cackled with white, sparking energy, before she turned into energy, and reappeared next to her axe, albeit tumbling in the process.

Brothers, she loved Bound Item. Summer then dusted herself.

"Not one of my better landings. Now-"

Summer was interrupted when she heard hopping…and growling. Turning around, she saw several frog-like creatures, as big as dogs, hopping towards.

"Well, that's new." Summer turned Sundered Axe towards them, shifting it to rifle form. Aiming the barrel at them, she pulled the trigger-

CLICK

'Uh, what?' Summer checked the barrel and cartridge. Nothing looked damaged. 'Maybe the portal screwed up the clip.'

Quickly ejecting with a PING, she pulled out another clip, slammed it in, making sure the firing pin was working, and-

CLICK

Summer's eyes widened. It wasn't her weapon that was broken. It was the Dust.

"Ohhhh, shi-"

One of the frogs leapt at her, razor mouth wide open, forcing her to duck as she shifted her rifle back to axe. She immediately slammed it down on the frog that jumped her, killing it. With the remaining frogs, she did the same thing. Once the ground was full of frog corpses, Summer inspected her axe.

"What the hell happened? Why isn't the Dust working?"

Summer then noticed that the moon was up, so wherever she was…wait…the moon.

Summer gasped. The moon was whole! Undamaged! How was that possible? Then she noticed the stars. One of her side hobbies was astrology, and so she can confidently say…

The stars don't match. None of the constellation in the night sky were there.

A dark thought came to her mind.

A strange portal.

A strange creature, and giant frogs.

An unbroken moon and new stars.

Raven not opening her portal.

"I'm not on Remnant…" Summer said, as she fell to her knees. The wonderful idea of being on an alien planet eclipsed by the cold realization of one question.

"How am I going to get home?

Author's Notes: Something I forgot to mention last chapter, the ship that crashed is the Galactic Ranger dropship from Up Your Arsenal. Just so you have an idea.

This chapter was originally going to also include Summer adopting Ratchet, but, as I finally got Summer to Veldin, I realized that it would be a bit long, so I decided to split it into two, and post the first half once I finished writing up to that point (the point of Summer getting to Veldin, obviously).

And yes, I had Summer and Raven go to Ren and Nora's old hometown, because I'm lazy and can't make up a different village in Mistral.

As for the present...well, not only does Raven have some 'splainin' to do, but Clank told RWBY (and Oobleck) about Salem much earlier than in canon. Question: if you bring up the subject accidently, but then deliberatly continue that discussion, is that you deliberatly or accidently revealling something. In this context, did Clank 'accidently' reveal Salem, or was it 'deliberate' because, after letting it slip, he continued to talk about her?

On a different note, welcome to Summer's Semblance, Bounded Item. Basically, Summer can bind herself to an item of her choose and can teleport herself to the item, or vice versa. There are restrictions, however. She can only bind to one item, as she has to see the item before teleporting. If she can't see it, no teleportations.

As always, leave a review, fav/follow, and I'll see you all next time.
