The Legacy You Leave
Chapter 14
Most of our life is a series of images. They pass us by like towns on the highway. But sometimes a moment stuns us as it happens. And we know that this instant is more than a fleeting image. We know that this moment, every part of it, will live on forever.'
"You really surprised me. I had no idea you were on the way home."
"I could of prepared and welcomed my husband home properly." Brooke said.
Lucas leaned over kissing her gently. Her bare body wrapped in his arms.
"Coming home to you is all the welcome i need." Lucas replied.
"Maybe i should travel more often. You really missed me." Lucas said.
Brooke smiled shyly.
"Very much so. I didn't even give the chance to unpack. Feel free to do that. Its just us here. And no more going out of town without me." She replied.
"If i didn't have Stella and Owen in this bed with me I wouldn't have slept. Sleeping alone is not for me." Brooke announced.
"I was missed just as much. You're calls. Texts. The video chats."
"That is what got me through us being apart."
"Thank you for staying in touch." Brooke added in.
"I told you i would. I don't like being apart from you and our family. If I don't have to be." Lucas proclaimed.
"Do you have jet lag?" Brooke asked.
"If i did that's long over. Get over here." Lucas said. Kissing her.
As he pulled her on top of him.
Brooke grabbed on to his chest. The couple never taking their eyes off each other.
"We need to be careful. Remember what happened last night." Brooke said.
"I missed you so much and I plan to fully express that." Lucas replied.
...
Sometime Later
"Daddy you're finally home!" Winston exclaimed.
Lucas opened his arms and hugged tightly to Winston and Stella.
The warmth and joy coming off his children. Really made him see returning home early was the right decision.
" Welcome home was you're trip?" Oscar asked.
Lucas hugged his oldest son tightly.
"Better then expected but i've missed this home and being with my family more then i can say." Lucas replied.
"You've been focused on school. Taking care of the younger ones. Being a huge help to you're mom thank you for that." Lucas added in focused on Oscar.
"Let's go to grandma Karen's. The two of you are staying over there tonight." Brooke proclaimed.
...
"I remember teaching you how to play and now you are almost better then me." Lucas said.
Passing the basketball to Oscar. As he tossed it into the hoop.
In the front yard.
"I was 4. And the only thing i wanted was a basketball and to learn to play. Especially after hearing you're stories." Oscar recalled.
"You're doing so well basketball and you're getting on a better path with the grades. Summer school was an adjustment but you got through it and i'm proud of you for that." Lucas stated matter of fact.
"Thanks. I want to become better. To make you and mom proud of me." Oscar admitted.
"As long as you're doing what you're supposed to do school wise and figuring out who you are. You'll do that."
"We don't expect perfection out of you or you're siblings."
"Doing the best you can is all we really want." Lucas stated matter of fact.
"I'll try." Oscar said.
"So everything with you're friends is going well. Since you haven't brought that up. When am i going meet Kira?" Lucas asked.
Shooting the basketball straight into the hoop.
"Whenever you want." Oscar replied.
"Is she a new friend or are the two of you dating?" Lucas asked.
"We're dating. Mom can be protective about us."
"And I know what i'm doing. She's so cool. She' traveled all over because of her parents work." Oscar replied.
"I'm sure you do. Where did you meet her?" Lucas asked.
"Detention the first time i got it months ago." Oscar admitted.
"I think you don't just let anyone into you're life. Which means she must be special."
"I know you treat you respect understanding and care."
"You're a gentleman." Lucas proclaimed.
"Of course." Oscar replied.
...
Brooke and the younger kids were in the kitchen. Dancing annd talking while she cooked dinner. While Oscar decided to have a night to himself and was reading in his bedroom upstairs.
Lucas was in his home office determined to get a head start on his first of three novels. He had gotten an advance on the books.
And he hadn't told Brooke about that yet. But he would.
Once he got into creating and writing mode. Everything else.
Fell away. But the ringing of his nearby cellphone.
Broke his concentration. He sighed deeply and picked up the call.
"Lucas Scott." He said.
"Luke. I know you said we wouldn't be seeing each other outside of work which i understand."
"But we make an amazing team as writers. This is the opportunity to collab again like you suggested before."
"I emailed you what i've thought up so far. Read it and let me know if you like it." Audrey said.
"I'm reading it and I love it. I've been tying and erasing."
"Trying to figure out what to do next with these characters."
"But you got it. You read my mind. We do work well together."
"I'll write a chapter of my own and send it to you." Lucas replied.
"I'm looking out for it. Talk to you soon." Audrey replied. Ending the call between them.
She took a deep breath. He was married he had a family.
Yet i found myself being unable to to turn off what i felt.
But working on this book would put my time and energy into thinking about anything but that.
"You are playing with fire you don't seem to grasp that." Audrey heard as her best friend. Paced in the floor of her bedroom.
"You don't get it. I've been trying to find the right guy. And its nothing but disappointment and heartache."
"Me and Lucas share the same creative mind. Its high energy. Passion. Bouncing ideas off each other. Pouring yourself into pages."
"People fall out of love and outgrow each other everyday."
"Maybe what they have is fading and falling apart and Lucas needs someone else to make it clear to him." Audrey suggested.
Amy stared at Audrey wide eyed.
"Why aren't you listening to me about this?" Amy asked.
"I want him. And i think he could want me too."
"But he has be set free to explore it and admit it." Audrey said.
"This is going to blow up in you're face." Amy replied.
"Or it won't and I'm right." Audrey said.
"Then you'll be breaking a family and you're okay with that?" Amy questioned.
