Waking up outside in Miller Woods wasn't unusual for Alex, when he'd been part of the wild pack it had happened often, even before he'd begun transforming. And he'd been injured yesterday, cut by a knife Catherine Madison had hidden under her table. Wolfbloods healed much faster than a normal human and transforming healed them even faster, especially during the full moon when they were locked in their wolf form until the moon set. The full moon was three weeks away, but transforming had still helped with the cut on his arm. It was completely gone. He glanced over at Cordelia who was also waking up and the rest of his pack, Jesse and Aura, they'd all spent time running in Miller Woods last night and were now beginning to wake up, ready to start the day. The four teens found their stashed clothes from last night and dressed before Jesse and Aura headed off to their homes and he and Cordelia headed to hers. His family lived on the other side of town to be near the National Forest where they spent so much of their time that when he'd joined the tame pack, Charles Chase had invited him to use Miller Woods, which bordered his home, to run in with the pack. Often the teens made use of it by themselves. Once he and Cordelia arrived at the Chase Mansion, Alex headed to the pool house where he kept spare clothes and got ready for the day before heading up to the main house for breakfast.

Charles Chase was already up and Cordelia was still getting ready. Charles motioned Alex into a seat.

"All healed I see. You did good yesterday, Alex, even if it did mean revealing us to outsiders. I'd already been talking to some of the Magic users in town, the ones that keep the willful avoidance spell going for us, so asking about this Slayer was easy to do. They thought she was a myth. Stories about the Slayer go back thousands of years and appear in every culture in the world. But most people regard it as a comforting bedtime story, yes there are monsters, but there's also someone who fights monsters, kinda thing. That it's always a girl and a young girl at that, just makes it more of a story. If a little girl can destroy monsters, than the monsters can't be that scary, can they?"

"By little, you don't mean height do you, Sir? Even through Buffy is short."

"No, I don't. Some of the stories say as young as twelve, possibly even younger in some cases. The story of the Slayer only makes sense as a story. No matter how strong she is, there's a limit to how strong she can be and individually she's probably stronger than a few vamps, but the younger they are, the less max strength they have, it's a matter of physics and Magic can only do so much. They don't live long as a result. A few months, maybe a year, at best. She can probably destroy quite a few vampires and maybe some demons in that time, but not really more than a trained team of humans or Wolfbloods could. Whoever is responsible for the existence of the Slayer has a lot to answer for in my opinion. Sacred Calling, my ass, there's nothing sacred about it, unless your religious belief calls for sacrificing little girls so you can feel safe. If someone made Cordelia one of the Slayers, I'd glady learn every torture technique I could think of to explain to them just what I think of someone willfully doing that to a child."

"What do we do about Buffy? She's real and she's in Sunnydale. The Librarian seemed to have some authority over her, so he obviously knows something and he's the one who considers it a Sacred Calling, she doesn't."

"I want to meet with them both, Sunnydale is a safe haven for more than just Wolfbloods, but vampires come here too and none of the rest of us like that fact. We may be able to work with the Slayer, I may loathe the fact that she exists and she apparently has little say in this, but whatever Magic made her may compel her to hunt, the Magic users I spoke to say the stories hint at it. She's always where there are large concentrations of them. It's the Librarian I'm concerned about, what does he have to do with her being a Slayer? Did he make her one? Is he part of a larger group? I'm having Principal Flutie bring me his resume and I'm going to have a background check run on him."

"And how much do I tell them about the late, unlamented Mayor Wilkins?"

"They know Magic and demons exist, it shouldn't be too hard for them to understand. You can tell them how I found out and what I did about it. Beyond that, I want you to keep an eye on the Slayer's group, anything else of concern that I should know about?"

"Those books I checked out from the Library weren't just informational, the spells in them were real and he checked them out to me himself and never noticed. He shouldn't have had anything with real Magic in the Library, his explanation was, it's convenient. The fact that he didn't noticed he'd checked them out to me, makes me wonder if the willful avoidance spell is affecting him."

"He knows Magic exists and keeps books on real Magic around, that's more than willful avoidance, that's pure carelessness. Yes, I definitely want to talk to him."

"I'll let him know."
