If you were to ask King how things were after Purple returned from the chaos that was the battle with Orchid, he would tell you that it was absolute chaos.
With Purple's return, came an uproar of nightmares and visions neither one of them had been expecting to deal with.
King wasn't even sure how to deal with it. They had Purple's mood spiraling downhill with every vision, and the nightmares had Purple getting less and less sleep every night.
King didn't blame Purple for the issues, but the people he could blame were dead.
Which was a good thing, but also a bad thing because he couldn't take his anger at Purple's spiraling mood he couldn't deal with out on Navy and Orchid.
It couldn't be a repeat of last time, where Green got to shout at a couple of teenagers for humiliating Purple in front of others.
He still hated that.
But, he was willing to think of an alternative way to deal with them, since the last couple of times hadn't gone too well.
And he thought the powers were hard to work with.
"Purple, please. We can work this out, I promise!"
King didn't even know how they got to that point. But somehow, the simple motion of getting through another vision that crept up on them turned into what was quickly becoming a shouting match.
"Kimg, just stop! I know, your trying, but your being overbearing and it's not helping!"
"I'm trying, I promise!"
"WELL, TRY LESS!"
The outburst caught King off guard.
"Purple."
"Please, King. I know your doing your best."
"Purple."
"But your being very overbearing right now, and it's really starting to get on my nerves."
"PURPLE!"
No, it did not take long for King to realize he had fucked up.
"Purple-"
"No. Don't bother."
A thundercrash.
"Purple, wait-!"
Purple stormed out into the bad weather, slamming the door.
Gold had a love-hate relationship with the rain.
On one hand, he loved watching it fall, and the smells and sounds that came with it, especially in the spring, were fucking awesome.
On another, thunderstorms scared him when he was a kid. He'd always want to crawl into his dad's bed and hide under his blankets until it stopped.
Then again, what child wouldn't?
He had been particularly enjoying this thunderstorm, until Purple was on his doorstep, soaking wet and sobbing.
That's when Gold really started to realize that relaxation was still, in a sense, a luxury.
Gold: Dad, respectfully, what the fuck did you do to Purple.
King knew he was going to get some type of interrogation text at some point, whether it was from Green or Gold.
Dad: What are you talking about?! I didn't do anything!
Gold: then why the hell did Purple show up at my front door soaking wet and sobbing IN A THUNDERSTORM!?
Gold: HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND?!
King: Look, we just had a fight.
Gold: Yeah. A fight leaves my adoptive brother running out of your house and to mine, sobbing and soaking wet IN A FUCKING THUNDERSTORM
Gold: THE HELL DID YOU DO?!
King: I swear, it was just a fight.
King: The visions are getting out of hand, and Purple was freaking out and I was trying to help and we started arguing.
King: I know next to nothing about these visions, and I don't know how to control them, and neither does he.
Gold: So your blaming the visions.
King: No, I blame Navy.
Gold: Eh fair point.
Gold: But still.
Gold: You guys need to work something out. I hate seeing you blame yourself for...whoever the hell caused the whole visions and powers and chase for Purple. And I hate seeing Purple look this upset.
Gold: He's just a kid. And he's gone through enough as is. Yes, it's brought you two closer, but anything can go wrong, and it can tear the two of you apart. I hate seeing you that devastated.
King: I know, I know...the hell do you mean "that devastated"
Gold: You were devastated enough to nearly destroy a game after I "died", and you've down very crazy shit for Purple.
Gold: starting to think you love him more than me.
King: I raised you. Kinda have to love you more, but you live across town. I love the two ofnyou equally.
Gold: Whatever, dad. Go to sleep. You and Purple can talk this out later.
King: You can't stop me from texting him an apology paragraph.
Gold: He has no phone right now.
King: Damn it.
The next morning, King didn't know what to do.
He and Purple had been told to "talk it out", and then were left to fend for themselves.
Gold was incredibly vague with how he wanted it to go.
And it did not sound like he had a fleshed out idea in the slightest.
He had been left to fend for himself. Flesh out an entirely thought up plan to apologize to Purple.
Thanks for the help, Gold.
The door suddenly slammed shut behind him.
Fucking hell, why is everyone trying to make me drop dead-?!
It was Purple.
"Purple!"
King moved forwards, almost immediately moving back once he got a better look.
Purple still had tear tracks from last night.
"Oh, Purple..."
Purple didn't look up. King still moved forward, pulling the child close.
I'm so sorry, Purple.
"I'm sorry." Purples voice was quiet.
"No, baby...it's not your fault. You were trying to work through something on your own, and I overreacted. I'm sorry."
His outburst still burned in the back of his head.
He really had fucked up this time didn't he?
He'd taken all this time to fix the relationship between him and Purple that Navy was constantly trying to keep tearing apart, and he had gone and screwed it over.
"It's fine."
"No, it's not. Your still reeling from the entire thing with Orchid, and I did not use a very good way of dealing with it. I'm sorry I yelled at you. It was stupid."
"I'm sorry I ran out. That was more stupid."
King smiled, holding one of his kid's hands in his. "It's okay, love. We're doing our best. Theres only so much we can do to work with these visions. I promise you, I'm doing as much as I can."
"I'm sorry I lashed out at you. You were just trying to help..."
"Hey, it could've been worse. I could've done a lot more than just shout at you. And even that was a dumb idea."
"I'm glad you didn't."
"And I'm glad your okay. Somehow got across town to Gold's in a thunderstorm. I know you've done crazier, but it's still something."
"Sure."
"It is!"
That got a small, genuine smile out of Purple.
And King fucking cherished it.
