Arizona spent well over an hour getting ready, trying on outfit after outfit. The slutty little dresses she owned felt a bit too obvious that she wanted to look hot, and while she normally didn't mind shamelessly showing off her long legs paired with a dangerous amount of her shoulders or lower back or cleavage, she was shooting for something different tonight. Jeans, even her favorite pair, didn't feel like enough.
After about her sixth outfit change, she landed on a short, tight black skirt that showed off a considerable amount of her thighs and a long sleeved black shirt that hugged her body intimately. She pulled on knee high black leather boots that were heeled, the extra inches giving her a needed confidence boost. Her hair was straightened and her makeup was just a bit heavier than usual and she decided that she looked as perfect as it was going to get.
She hated how nervous she felt. She really couldn't wrap her mind around why Mark would even invite her out in the first place. Had Callie put him up to it? Did she even know that she'd be there? The more she thought about it, the more she felt like she was walking into the middle of some mean joke.
But Arizona did not back down from a challenge. She didn't chicken out. She was stubborn to a fault and if they were trying to upset her, well, she would make it look like she was having the best damn night of her life. And she was going to look damn good while she did it, if only to rub in Callie's face all that she was missing out on. A reminder of what she could never have again in her life.
Well, hopefully. They notoriously didn't have the best track record when alcohol got involved. She didn't exactly have full confidence in herself to hold out.
She pregamed a few shots before Teddy arrived to pick her up, giving herself a quick pep talk in the mirror before she left that mainly just consisted of her repeatedly telling herself that she would not sleep with Callie tonight.
She would not sleep with Callie tonight.
She would not sleep with Callie tonight.
But god, did she want to. She was so sexually frustrated that it was making her feel crazy. It had gotten to the point where she physically couldn't get off without picturing Callie, which was a little bit humiliating. She didn't understand how she had managed to get under her skin this much. And apparently she was a little bit masochistic because here she was, about to actively put herself in a situation where she could get burned again for just one glimpse of her smile. It was pathetic.
Arizona shivered as she jogged lightly through the frigid air to reach the warm safety of Teddy's passenger seat. She giggled brightly at the low whistle her friend let out at her outfit, doing a playful little shimmy as she buckled her seatbelt. "You like?"
"You look hot."
"Thank you." Arizona dimpled, feeling that familiar buzz starting to settle in. "Do I look slutty?"
"You've looked sluttier, to be honest. Is that what you were going for?"
"Nope." Arizona grinned, satisfied with the answer, and sunk back in her seat as Teddy shifted the car into drive.
"Are you going to explain now why, exactly, we're going out with my very slutty ex?"
Arizona shrugged a shoulder, trying to seem casual. "He invited us. I dunno." She reached to turn the radio up, but Teddy smacked her hand away and shot her a look from the side of her eye. Arizona sighed and squirmed a bit in her seat, dreading the conversation that was about to happen.
"But why? It's weird, Arizona. I feel like I'm missing something here."
"I am going to tell you something and I don't want you to make a big deal of it. Okay?"
Teddy arched a brow, but she kept her eyes steady on the road. She hesitated, voice suspicious when she spoke. "Okay…"
"I have complicated feelings toward Callie Torres."
Arizona didn't miss the half smirk that immediately adorned Teddy's face, or the slight raise of a very interested brow. She ignored it and continued, "We met before she started at the hospital. I didn't even know she was a doctor. And we spent a night together, and god Teddy, it was an incredible night." Her eyes fluttered closed briefly at the memory, inhaling, and then it was all exploding out of her. She had kept it locked up for so long that it felt incredible to finally talk about it. "We kissed in the rain and had pancakes for dinner and went to karaoke and her voice was insane. Beautiful. I just wanted to keep hearing it. And then we went to the beach and just…talked. I actually talked and opened up. Me. Then we kind of almost got arrested, but not really, she's just dramatic. And then we took a shower together and she washed my hair. She washed my fucking hair, Teddy."
"Jesus." Teddy blinked several times, processing the word vomit her best friend had just expelled. Of all the things she had expected to hear, all of that hadn't been even slightly on her radar. "When did your life turn into a romcom and more importantly why didn't you think to tell me about it?"
"A few weeks ago apparently. We had sex. A lot of it. And it was the best sex I've ever had and I can't stop thinking about it. It's ruining my life." Arizona groaned, letting her head fall back. The next words out of her mouth were pained and awkward, difficult for her to say out loud. "I felt really connected to her. I think… I think I kind of liked her."
"You wouldn't be able to guess that now. What happened?" Teddy chuckled quietly, fingertips tapping against the steering wheel. "Let me guess. You got scared and ran? Because Arizona, I'm going to smack the hell out of you."
"No!" Arizona asserted, a little offended even though it was a fair guess. "That's the worst part. I wanted to run, and I didn't. I went and got her my favorite coffee, wrote my number on it. It was so cheesy. So unlike me. But I wanted to do it. For her." She swallowed thickly. "But when I got back she was bragging to Mark Sloan all about the annoying blonde slut she had just fucked. I think the word vapid was thrown in there somewhere too."
Teddy's smile fell. "Ouch." She shot a sympathetic look at her. Her friend was already so closed off, so the fact that she opened up the smallest bit just to be met with that was…not good, to put it mildly. "I'm sorry. That's…kind of brutal."
"I didn't confront her. I just left. I was so embarrassed and confused because I really thought we had a special night." Arizona swallowed. "And then she showed up at work a week later and obviously that's been going just amazing."
Teddy let out a sympathetic, dry laugh at the sarcasm. She pulled into the parking lot of the bar, searching for a while to find an open spot. "What a bitch. No wonder you hate her. I can hate her now too, if you want."
Arizona smiled, a bit sadly. "That's not exactly all of it."
"There's more?" Teddy pulled the car into park, finally turning to look at her friend head on.
"She fucked me in the bathroom at Joe's. Like a week ago. And when I say fucked…" She blinked at the memory. "It was rough and angry and I had just came and she left me there. Like it was nothing."
"I'm not trying to be a bitch when I say this, but wouldn't that normally be your kind of thing? Casual? Nothing?" She had witnessed Arizona disappear countless times over the years for a quickie in an on-call room or a bathroom, always with a different random, nameless woman.
"Usually, yeah," Arizona agreed. She twirled a lock of hair in her fingers, a nervous habit. "It's just different with her. I don't know. I felt so used after." She groaned quietly, frustrated. "I don't know. I hate her so much."
"Right." Teddy nodded, trying to be supportive, but her brows were furrowed as she attempted to piece together the matrix of emotions the woman next to her was experiencing. "She seemed so cool, too. Funny. It's a shame she turned out like this."
"Are you serious?"
"I'm sorry. I'm not defending her, really," Teddy quickly backtracked. "I'm on your side here so don't freak. It's just surprising is all." She unbuckled her seatbelt and Arizona copied her, opening the visor mirror to check her makeup before they headed inside.
"I think she told people about that first night we had, probably making fun of me. 'Cause she's a self-righteous bitch." She used the pad of her thumb to carefully fix the lip gloss on the corner of her mouth. "Mark was all I heard Robbins loves karaoke."
"What a dick." Teddy rolled her eyes. "We don't have to go inside, you know. We can just go to Joe's. Find you a pretty girl."
Arizona shook her head, blonde hair falling over her shoulder. "No, I want to do this. I look hot. She should see it." She giggled and opened her door to step out, a slightly mischievous twinkle in her blue eyes. "Besides, I can't yell at her at the hospital anymore. Gotta get it out of my system somewhere."
Teddy threw her head back in a laugh, walking side by side with her to the front door. "Atta girl. Wanna sing with me?"
"Duh."
The bar was as busy as it had been the night she came with Callie, a dull roar of laughter, clinking glasses, off-key singing, and voices yelling to be heard over it all temporarily deafening her. It was dimly lit inside and packed with individuals from all walks of life, from 21-year-old college students to groups of middle aged moms drunk on wine during their monthly girls night out.
Arizona fidgeted with her hair, colored a soft red from the glow of neon lights surrounding her, as her eyes scanned the bar for a familiar face. She jumped when she felt arms wrap around her shoulders from behind, muscles relaxing only when she recognized Cristina's very, very drunk voice.
"Robbbbbbiiiins! You're wrong about Torres. She's so fun. I think you'll like her actually." She swayed a little, and Arizona couldn't help but laugh at how obliterated she was already, so early in the night. She hoped to be there soon, "Also this is the worst place I've ever been to. Seriously, this sucks so much."
Arizona crinkled her nose. "I'm surprised you and Mer are even here. We couldn't sell Alex on the karaoke."
"We only came 'cause Mark promised us lots of shots." She sloppily pointed a finger to a booth in the corner, where Mark and Derek were sitting with Meredith and Callie, table littered with a substantial amount of empty shot glasses. "Me and Mer are gonna sing Madonna."
"Oh, I can't wait to see that." Arizona laughed breathily, trying like hell to tear her eyes away from the brunette who hadn't seen her yet. She looked, unsurprisingly, divine, her raven hair falling around her shoulders in loose curls, makeup smoky. She was smiling across the table at her friends, and the sight of it put an ache in Arizona's chest. A glimpse of that smile had been the only reason she had shown up.
"What are you guys doing here anyway?"
Arizona blinked and her attention returned to her drunk friend, surprised by the question. She exchanged a brief look with Teddy. "Mark invited us."
"Ohhh. That's weird." She tilted her head. "No offense."
Arizona couldn't argue with the blunt statement. It was weird. Even weirder now that she knew the others didn't seem to know about the invitation. Did Callie?
Cristina just shrugged her shoulders before they could say anything else, grabbing Teddy and Arizona by their hands to drag them over to their table. "Look at the fishies I caught."
Arizona felt dread coiling in her stomach, but she kept a sweet smile on her face. As per usual, the blonde tended to overcompensate when upset, upping her exterior level of bright and shininess. Air felt like it was trapped in her throat when Callie's eyes flickered to look at her, the surprise on her face undeniable. Her eyebrows were drawn together a bit, eyes flickering between her and Mark briefly. Well, that answered her question. "Hi guys." Arizona said, mostly to Meredith and Derek.
"You made it!" Mark beamed, and Callie kind of looked like she could jump across the table to strangle him.
"I never go back on an RSVP." Her deep set dimples appeared, friendly as ever. "And I love karaoke."
Callie's voice was tight when she spoke, so obviously strained and fake that it was almost a little funny. "I didn't know you guys were coming."
"Did I forget to mention that? My apologies." Mark's eyes were twinkling in a manner that was more than just a little suspicious, and Arizona was so confused. "The more the merrier, right? Sit, sit." He gestured to the open spaces in the booths.
"We're next!" Cristina dragged Meredith out of the booth, and they stumbled toward the stage together, the sound of their drunken laughs somehow cutting through the crowd.
"I'm gonna get a drink. Teddy?" Her friend didn't need to be told twice and she was following her to the bar. Arizona's voice came out in a hissed whisper as they walked. "What the hell?"
"This is seriously weird, Arizona." She laughed as they ordered their drinks, leaning her elbows on the bar as she looked at her shorter friend, closer to her height now from the heeled boots. "Why did Mark want you here so bad?"
"I have no fucking clue." She blinked, and the realization sunk in suddenly. Her mouth fell open and she let out a tiny laugh. "Oh my god. The bet."
"What?"
"The bet. Alex said people are betting on when Callie and I will have sex."
Understanding filled Teddy's eyes and she laughed. "Oh my god. He's trying to set you up."
"He's trying to set us up." Arizona giggled despite herself. It pissed her off a little, sure, but it was undeniably kind of funny and Arizona couldn't say with full confidence that she wouldn't do the same thing at someone else's expense. "What an asshole. He's unbelievable." She took a sip of her drink when it arrived in front of her, nose scrunching at how strong it was. She decided to leave her tab open, deciding she'd definitely be needing it tonight. She thought for a second, then ordered two shots each for both her and Teddy.
She raised an eyebrow at her. "I'm driving."
"I'll buy you a cab." She dimpled. "I seriously owe you for coming out. Because this is so weird and so awkward."
Arizona was apparently an excellent negotiator because they were taking their shots together as soon as they were placed on the bar in front of them. They returned to their company for the evening, sliding into the booth, Arizona purposely choosing to sit next to Callie. She ignored the heat between her legs when their thighs touched beneath the table. Mark and Derek were wrapped up in a boring conversation about golf, leaving the women sitting in an awkward silence.
Arizona tried to think of something to say that didn't consist of an insult, finally deciding that work would be a safe enough topic. "How was Holly before you left?"
Callie's brow raised a bit, unimpressed. "You seriously want to talk about work? At a bar?"
Arizona's jaw tightened at the prissy tone of voice. "I'm sorry, do you have something better to talk about? Did I interrupt the stimulating conversation you were having with yourself over there?"
Brown eyes rolled, and there it was, that awkwardness replaced by a simmering tension. "Proud of you. You managed to make it exactly one sentence sounding somewhat pleasant."
"You made it zero."
Callie laughed humorlessly, shooting her a cutting look. "You are so annoying. It's impossible to be pleasant with you around."
In a sick way, Arizona preferred this, the bickering, over the awkward silence and avoidance. At least when they fought, Callie was looking at her, focusing on her with those passionate eyes.
"I love being annoying. Vapid, too. And slutty." Her eyes were narrowed the slightest bit, genuine hurt and anger in her tone.
Callie's face faltered and softened just the slightest bit, something flashing in her eyes that Arizona couldn't really decipher. She looked confused. She opened her mouth to respond, but was cut off by what could only be described as the shrieks of a cat in heat.
All five heads at the table turned to look at the stage, finding Cristina and Meredith fighting over a microphone as they sang/screamed Like a Virgin cut through with the sounds of their wheezing laughs. They were stumbling around a little on stage, Meredith pointing at Derek as she sang off key to him, trying to be sexy. and it was the worst thing Arizona had ever heard.
And the funniest. She started to giggle, and it started low in her chest until it bubbled into a real laugh, and her cheeks hurt a little because she just couldn't stop. She heard Callie start to laugh too, and their eyes met briefly as they reveled in the ridiculous show in front of them together. Their gaze held for far too long to be considered platonic, and Callie really was so beautiful when she laughed. It lit up her entire face, her eyes sparkling with joy that just seemed to radiate off of her.
Arizona broke their eye contact first, wiping tears from the corner of her eyes as she tried to catch her breath, ribs a little sore from laughing so hard. She sucked in a sharp breath and let her hand drop back down to her side, freezing when it landed unintentionally on Callie's thigh instead.
She could see the way Callie's chest rose with a deep inhale at the sudden contact, the way her lips parted the smallest bit. Her dark eyes flickered to meet hers. It was an accident and they both knew it, but neither moved to remove her hand.
Their friends were still too engrossed in the cacophonous performance to notice what had happened, and Arizona's tongue darted out to lick her lips. She watched Callie watch it. Her throat felt dry and she swallowed, then tentatively moved her fingers the smallest bit, stroking the soft, warm skin of her thigh. Testing it.
Callie still didn't push her away. Instead her eyes darkened considerably. She watched the subtle bob of her throat as she swallowed. Arizona could hear her own heart beat in her ears as she continued, the rest of the bar disappearing and for a moment, it was just her and Callie. It was just Callie's warm skin under her fingertips. Her hand inched higher, maintaining eye contact to make sure she wasn't crossing a line.
She wasn't, apparently, because Callie grabbed her wrist and drug her hand even higher, pressing her fingers more firmly into her skin, clearly fed up with the softness of her touch. Arizona had to bite back the gasp that wanted to fall from her lips as she slid past the hem of her dress, fingertips meeting the fabric of her underwear and god Arizona needed those thighs wrapped around her neck immediately.
She pressed her fingertips against her cloth covered clit, just soft enough to tease her, and watched the way Callie's cheeks flushed considerably. She watched the way her eyes fluttered the slightest bit and had to press her own thighs together because it was the hottest thing she had ever seen.
The applause from the crowd as Meredith and Cristina's song came to an end snapped them out of it, and Arizona quickly withdrew her hand, resting it safely on her own lap. What the fuck were they just doimg? So much had happened in the last 3 and a half minutes that it made her feel a little dizzy.
Callie shot up from her spot in the booth, smoothing her dress down, looking visibly flustered. "I'm gonna, um, get some fresh air."
Arizona watched as she headed for the door. She knew her own cheeks were flushed, knew her own voice was a little breathless as she spoke in a whisper to Teddy. "I need your car keys."
"What? Babe, you are not driving home."
"No, I need…" She hesitated, but her arousal outweighed her decorum. "I need your backseat."
"Arizona!" Teddy's jaw dropped a little, laughing in amusement. "Are you a teenager? Jesus. We just got here."
"Please." Her eyes flickered to the door Callie had just walked through, desperately wanting to catch up to her. She felt like her skin was on fire.
"Are you sure?" She kept her voice quiet, but the hesitance was evident. "It seemed like it really bothered you last time. You said you felt used. I just don't want—"
"I'm sure," Arizona insisted, nodding her head to emphasize it. She wasn't sure, not really, but the alcohol and the sexual frustration had taken over all of the sane, rational parts of her brain for the night. She wanted to gain back an ounce of the control Callie had taken from her last time, wanted to have a say in it, wanted to hear Callie moaning her name again.
"Fine," Teddy sighed, reaching in her purse for her keys. She slid them into Arizona's palm under the table discreetly. "Just please don't be too gross."
"Promise." Arizona grinned. "Thank you. I owe you."
"You really, really do."
Arizona slid out of the booth to follow Callie, completely missing the triumphant grin on Mark's face as he watched her go. She found Callie outside in the cold air, leaning against the brick of the building as she tried to compose herself.
She was staring at her shoes and Arizona came to stand right in front of her, not bothering with putting a respectable amount of space between them, done with the false pretenses for a moment. She was getting what she wanted. She ducked her head a little until their eyes met, and a small, flirty grin crossed her lips. "Hi."
Callie's face melted into a soft smile and she laughed, the sound so light and genuine that it almost reminded her of the first night they met. Almost. "Hi."
"So." Arizona pretended to think, pursing her lips playfully, her arms crossed over her chest. She exhaled dramatically, as if the conclusion she had come to in her thinking was the worst thing in the world. "We have really good sex."
"We do."
"And I'm kind of tired of pretending we don't."
"Me too."
"And I kind of want more of it right now."
"Me too."
Arizona smirked, eyes flirty as she held up the keys in her hand. "I know a backseat. It's really romantic."
Callie laughed and shook her head, enraptured by the woman in front of her. She was just unbelievable. She had whiplash from how quickly they could go from bickering and hating each other to playful like this. "Lead the way."
Arizona could feel Callie's strong hands on her hips as she walked, could feel her lips on the back of her neck as she unlocked the car. She shivered, and she knew it wasn't from the cold. All she could feel was warmth, a searing heat inside of her that was driving her forward against all logic and reason.
They sort of tumbled into the back seat, Arizona on top, and she fumbled for the button to lock the car as she shifted to kind of straddle the woman below her, keeping her head ducked low to avoid hitting the ceiling. It was cramped and a little uncomfortable but neither noticed.
Arizona paused as she dipped her head down, considering briefly if she should stick to her no kissing rule from last time. She knew it'd make this easier for her, knew it'd help cut any intimacy, but Callie was looking up at her with those big brown eyes and before she knew what she was doing she was leaning in fully to kiss her. Her long blonde hair cascaded around them like a curtain, shielding them from the world. As soon as their lips touched, it was as if a bolt of electricity shot through them, igniting every nerve ending and god this was just as good as she remembered if not better.
Callie just made her…feel. Feel what, she didn't really care to understand. An overwhelming mix of maybe every human emotion in the book, including anger and hatred and an indescribable sense of longing.
She moved instinctually to hold Callie's face in her hands as they made out, lips parting obediently when Callie nipped at her, and she whimpered a little when that strong tongue entered her. Callie was squeezing her ass, her short skirt having ridden up due to her precarious position.
She dropped her hands from Callie's face and palmed her full breasts in her hands instead, grinning against her mouth at the moan the brunette let out. God, that sound was music to her ears. She broke the kiss finally, lips moving to kiss along the crest of her jaw, down her neck, against her ear.
She slid her right hand between their bodies, rocking her hips back a bit to make enough room, and didn't hesitate to return it to its rightful place between her thighs, picking up where they left off inside. She slid her underwear to the side, and her voice came out raspy against Callie's ear. "How are you this wet already?"
"Because you're you." Callie's cheeks flushed at the honesty of her own words. "And you teased me in there first." She moaned when Arizona's talented fingers started to work circles on her clit, her head rolling to the side a bit.
"You put my hand there." Arizona reminded her with a smirk, batting her eyes like she was completely innocent in the matter. She loved that they could banter like this, but she wouldn't be satisfied until Callie couldn't speak, couldn't even remember her own name anymore. Her lips hovered over her exposed pulse point, biting down a little too hard and not particularly caring if any marks were left. The thought of Callie having to think of her every time she looked in the mirror for the next few days was enticing.
She soothed the skin with her tongue, and the noise it evoked from Callie made her grin smugly against her soft neck. Her free hand fell to the seat behind the brunette, steadying herself as her fingers dipped lower, wrist flexing as she slid her two middle fingers inside of her. She was so warm and wet and tight and Arizona felt an immediate rush of arousal to her core at the feeling of being inside her again.
"God, fuck," Callie hissed, hooking her fingers into Arizona's underwear to pull them down her toned thighs, hand sliding between them immediately, needing to fuck her at the same time.
They quickly fell into a mutual rhythm, Arizona rolling her hips as she rode Callie's hand. Her back arched, and her high pitched, breathy whines filled the car, combining with the raspy moans of the brunette beneath her.
Arizona had never felt such insane chemistry with anyone else before in her life. Callie just drove her absolutely crazy, got on her nerves in ways no one else could, and unfortunately fucked her in ways no one else could too.
She felt a hand tangle in her hair and tug her down, and they were kissing again, muffling the sounds of their strangled moans. Arizona could feel her wrist tiring slightly from the odd angle, but she didn't relent even a little bit, curling her fingers when she felt Callie's muscles starting to flutter around her. They came together, fast and hard, downright animalistic noises escaping Arizona and falling into Callie's waiting mouth.
Her muscles kind of gave out after and she slumped down against the woman beneath her, the car filling with the sounds of heavy panting. She shook her slightly sore wrist out.
Arizona had no idea how long they laid there in the backseat, catching their breath. The sound of Callie's heart hammering against her ear lulled her into a calm trance that she didn't snap out of until she felt a hand starting to play with her hair, the intimacy of the gesture alarming her. She moved to push herself up, but Callie's firm grip on her waist kept her in place.
"Just… stay for a minute."
Arizona swallowed, conflicting emotions flooding her, but she nodded a little and laid her head back down. She felt Callie rubbing her lower back, felt herself melt a little into the embrace, and she was so freaked out it took everything she had not to bolt.
Callie broke the silence first, her voice quiet. "I really, really like those boots."
Arizona giggled despite herself. "Really?"
"Really, really like them. You should wear them more."
"Think they'll look good with scrubs? I can start wearing them to work for you."
Callie laughed at the mental image of Arizona performing surgery in thigh high boots. "I can't promise I'd be professional."
"Are you ever?" Arizona teased, but a smug grin on her face was hidden in the nape of Callie's neck.
Brown eyes rolled, but she laughed. Small moments like this made it kind of hard to remember why they hated each other so much. "It's hard around you, apparently. You're gonna get me fired my first month."
"That's the goal," Arizona laughed against her, the noise so bubbly and adorable that it put an ache in Callie's chest. The blonde hummed quietly. "We should really get back inside."
"I know," Callie sighed a little, hating to break out of this comfortable spell. "Will you sing a song with me?"
"Really?"
"Yeah. I think Florida and Arizona kind of made good partners."
Arizona rolled her eyes and poked her chest, teasing her. "You're only saying that 'cause this is the only place you can outshine me."
They pulled back from each other a bit and their eyes locked, and the sudden eye contact kind of made Arizona feel like she was suffocating. She cleared her throat quietly and pushed herself up and off Callie's lap, settling into the seat next to her instead, ignoring the twist in her gut that the loss of her warmth evoked.
The blonde pulled her underwear back up and started to smooth down her skirt. She ran her hands through her hair, putting herself back together, and she could feel Callie watching her and it made it kind of hard to breathe.
When she finally chanced a look at her, brown eyes were swimming with an emotion she couldn't place, and she looked to be in deep thought as she stared at her. It surprised her when she finally spoke. "That thing you said earlier. About being… vapid and slutty and annoying. That's not true." Callie paused, and a playful look crossed her face, trying to joke with her. "Well, you are a little annoying."
Arizona felt her muscles go rigid, and she could feel the inner workings of her walls going back up. Quickly. She chewed on the inside of her cheek, the bite returning to her voice. "We don't have to do this. You don't have to lie, Callie. It's fine if you think that about me, but at least have the guts to own it."
Callie blinked, her brows furrowing a bit in confusion. The comment she had made to Mark had been so offhanded, coming from a place of bitter hurt, that she barely registered that she had ever even said it. She had also thought it was a private conversation between friends and she was just…confused. "What are you talking about?"
Arizona let out a frustrated breath and didn't answer. She opened the front camera of her phone and used it to fix her makeup, wanting to focus on anything other than Callie at the moment.
"Did Mark tell you I said that?"
Arizona paused. She didn't really want her to know that she had returned that morning. It felt too vulnerable, like she was laying down all of her cards. "Does it matter? The point is you said it, Callie. You thought it and you said it."
"I mean, we've both said a lot worse to and about each other than that." She was shifting a bit in her seat, growing defensive.
Which was the wrong thing to do, because Arizona's eyes rolled and she threw her phone back in her purse and reached for the door handle to leave. Callie grabbed her wrist to stop her, her voice raising a little. "Stop fucking leaving, Arizona. I'm trying to talk to you here."
The blonde snatched her wrist back out of her grasp, blue eyes narrowing as anger started to snake its way back into her. "Why? Need more material to make fun of me with?"
"What the fuck are you talking about?"
"I know you told Mark all about that night we had together. And maybe you think it's funny, but I don't. I actually think that it's really fucking mean. And so was inviting me here to rub it in."
"I told Mark the morning after we met, Arizona. Before I knew who you were and when I thought I'd never have to see you again. It wasn't to make fun of you." Her tone was sharpening, growing impatient with the vague accusations. "And I definitely wasn't fucking laughing about it. I didn't even know you were coming tonight. That had nothing to do with me."
Arizona snorted out a humorless laugh. "Oh, I'm sure you weren't laughing. I'm sure you weren't toasting each other about fucking blonde sluts either."
"What—"
"It's really fucking hypocritical, by the way, to treat me like some worthless whore when you fuck Mark Sloan of all people. What, is it only acceptable to you when a man has a lot of sex?"
"Okay, first of all, I don't still have sex with—"
"God, you know what? This was a mistake." She gestured vaguely between the two of them, opening her door to leave. "All of this. I genuinely wish I never met you."
The door slammed before Callie could get another word in.
A/N: progress?….Kind of? Do you guys think this will help Callie piece it together soon?
I know a couple of commenters mentioned losing patience, which makes me sad to hear as we're still pretty early in their story. It's enemies to lovers, (relative) slow burn so to me it just doesn't make sense for them to forgive and forget super quickly. They have to go through all of the phases of learning to trust each other and really see who the other is. I promise they end up together lol, so for now I hope you can enjoy the pining and drama and trust in me :) I have a plan and there is a method to the madness!
Thank you so much for reading, even more so for taking the time to leave a review. I really cannot overstate how much they help with keeping me motivated to keep writing. Appreciate you so much!
