A little story for Mother's Day, what do you think? Yes, Mother's Day in my country is May 26. Well here she is
I was supposed to publish this story yesterday (In my country, at the time when I publish the English version of my story, it is May 27) but I was not able to publish it that day.
(Constance & Hope & Angela & Jane & Maura & Nina & Susie)
In the sweetness of a reborn spring, Mother's Day takes on a special aura for Constance Isles, Hope Martin, Angela Rizzoli, Maura Rizzoli, Jane Rizzoli, Nina Rizzoli and Susie Rizzoli. Every year they celebrate this day by sharing an evening meal among mothers in their favorite restaurant, a moment of conviviality and laughter, where memories and future plans mingle. It was Jane who came up with the idea of Rizzoli-Isles mothers' meals shortly after giving birth to her son Vincenzo and first spoke to Maura about it.
« My love, do I have an idea? Would you agree that next Mother's Day, we organize a meal where all the mothers in the family would gather? »
Maura asked
« All mothers?
Yes, all of them! My, Constance, Hope, me and you
Of course ! It's a very good idea. »
Hope had been surprised when Jane had told her that she had been invited to this meal and Jane had told her that as Maura's biological mother, she had to be there, that Maura wanted it and that Constance agreed and Hope had warmly thanked Jane. Then, Nina and Susie were invited because they had expanded the Rizzoli family because Nina, Frankie's wife, had given birth to fraternal twins and Susie, Tommy's wife, had given birth to a daughter.
This year's meal, however, is marked by an exciting novelty: Maura, having given birth to a baby girl the previous year, joins the traditional celebration no longer just as a second mother to the child Jane given birth, but as a full mother. Maura had been a little nervous at the idea of not being with her daughter but Constance had reassured her. All the Rizzoli children were with their fathers and grandfathers in the big Isles house and Arthur Isles had hired one of the best nannies in Boston to look after them but even so, Vince had secretly investigated her because he didn't want to see his grandchildren. (as he considered Frankie's children, Jane and Tommy his grandchildren) in anyone's hands.
The restaurant, bathed in the golden light of dusk, becomes the scene of warm exchanges and shared confidences. Tables are adorned with crisp white tablecloths and bouquets of spring flowers, while laughter and conversation intermingle with the gentle melodies played by a string quartet in the corner of the room. Angela, with her incomparable sense of humor, recounts anecdotes from Jane's childhood, provoking bursts of contagious laughter. Hope, her eyes sparkling with pride, shares Cailin's latest successes, Constance, in a soft, calm voice, recounts her latest exhibition and recounts anecdotes about some of Boston's society figures, Susie talks about her successful efforts of Tommy to expand his company, Nina shows photos of her daughter and Frankie dressed as astronauts at a party. Jane speaks with pride about her son and daughter and how Maura is a perfect wife and mother. Maura sits next to Jane, a beaming smile lighting up her face. She listens attentively, sometimes adding an insightful comment or tender observation, and speaks from her fresh experience as a mother. Jane, looks at her family with immeasurable love, feeling her heart overflowing with gratitude for these extraordinary women around her who have shaped her life in such meaningful ways and she can't help but take Maura's hand and kiss several times
As the meal draws to a close, the women toast to life, love and motherhood. They exchange gifts and words of support, strengthening the bond between them, then Maura receives a video call from her father who films himself next to his granddaughter and grandson, smiling and showing his grandchildren sleeping and this video reinforces the sweetness and magic of the evening and this year, with the arrival of a new little girl, the tradition continues, enriched with new stories and new hopes for the future.
I hope you had a happy Mother's Day. Happy Mother's Day to all readers who are lucky enough to be mothers.
