Third POV:
Floating in the air, the Mad Angel, Minerva Riddell, looks down at the ground. "To think I'd come back to this world..." She says, before smirking evilly. "Well, now that I'm back, I'm gonna finish what I started five years ago!" She clenches her right arm, now made of light to replace the one she lost, and Metatron's cannons begin spinning around her. "You seem to love this world, [Hermit]. So, I'll raze it to the ground! Shemesh!"
Shido's POV:
The moment Spacequake alarm sounded, everyone suddenly started running out of the park in a panic. While they were headed for the shelters, Kotori and I stay where we are.
"Tch, of all the times for a new Spirit to appear." Kotori clicks her tongue in annoyance. I don't blame her. This is really bad timing!
We don't have much time before the toxic power takes over, but I can't just leave this Spirit to fend for themselves! What should I do?
My thought were interrupted when I feel something weird happening to the air. Wait... I remember this feeling. This was when I saw the Spacequake that Tohka appeared from when we first met. If I'm getting this same feeling now, then...
Looking up, my eyes widen when I see a white void appear in the air above me in Kotori. SHIT! THE SPACEQUAKE IS RIGHT ABOVE US!
Before it could go off, though, a blue Spacequake appears next to it, and the two harmlessly disappear the moment they meet. That blue one must've been Yoshino!
"Good timing, Yoshino." I hear Kotori say next to me, confirming my thought. I then notice something - a glowing figure in the air where the white Spacequake started forming.
"Is that the Spirit?" I wonder aloud, staring at the figure. Her Astral Dress looks like something a bride would wear at a wedding, and with the golden light she was giving off as well as what looked like wings, it's like I'm staring at an angel.
...Wait. An angel...?
Before I could think about it any further, her 'wings' separate into small pillars and start rotating around her... and release a rain of energy blasts that destroy everything around us!
"God damnit! Why did it have to be her!?" Kotori curses loudly.
"Kotori, that Spirit..." I say. "Is she...?"
Kotori growls. "You guessed it. That's the Mad Angel, the same one that would've killed us five years ago had Yoshino not saved us." My eyes widen. She's the Light Spirit that Yoshino fought!? "Don't try to talk to her. She extremely dangerous and destructive. Even Ratatoskr agrees that there's no point trying to reason with her."
"So, what do we do?"
"The only thing we can do." I wonder what she means, but then flames surround her as she summons her Astral Dress. "I was sealed last time and couldn't do anything, but now I'm gonna make her pay for trying to kill me!"
"Kotori, wait! Aren't your powers still unstable?! If you fight her, you might lose yourself!" I try to reason with her, but she ignores me and flies up to fight the Light Spirit. "Kotori!"
I curse at the situation. This just went from manageable to really bad!
Third POV:
Dodging the energy blasts, Kotori flies closer to her target. "Camael!" Kotori summons her Angel and swings it at Minerva, who notices her and teleports to dodge.
"Well, lookie here. A Flame Spirit, huh?" Minerva muses. "Must be the same one that started that fire five years ago. I had wondered where you were." Taking a good look at Kotori, the Light Spirit blinks. "Hold on, you look familiar..."
"Oh, do I?" Kotori asks. "Perhaps I remind you of a certain red-haired girl you tried to kill alongside a blue-haired boy?"
Kotori's reminder clicks in Minerva's mind, and she begins laughing crazily. "No fucking way! You're one of those brats that [Hermit] saved!"
The Flame Spirit tightens her grip on Camael. "You tried to kill me and Onii-chan back then. Now, I'm gonna return the favor and kill YOU!"
Minerva gives a maniacal smirk in response. "You think being a Spirit will save you from me?" She aims Metatron at Kotori. "I let you get away last time, but this time, I'll make sure you die here!" The cannons start charging. "Don't worry. Once I'm done with you, I'll kill your Onii-chan so that he can join you in death!"
Kotori's anger peaks at Minerva's threat on her brother's life, her flames burning with rage. "THAT'S IT! I'M SENDING YOU TO HELL!" She roars as she charges at the Mad Angel.
Yoshino's POV:
After hearing that the bombardment from Shemesh had stopped, I drop the ice barrier I formed to protect Tohka and Origami. "You two alright?" I ask them. They nod in response. "How are Shido and Kotori?" I quickly ask Fraxinus.
"They're both fine, but the Commander has just confronted the Mad Angel!" Kannazuki reports.
I grit my teeth. "That's literally the last thing we want!"
"Hey, I see someone fighting the Light Spirit!" Tohka says, pointing at the airborne clash of flames and light. "It looks like flames. Is that Kotori?"
"But that's bad!" Origami says in alarm. "Kotori's powers are still unstable! If she fights for too long, the toxic power will take over!"
"Which is why we can't waste anymore time." I say seriously, summoning my Astral Dress. "I'm going to get Minerva off Kotori so that Shido can seal her."
"You mean the Light Spirit, right? I won't let you fight alone!" Tohka says with determination.
"That's right!" Origami nods in agreement. "I've been training so that I can fight alongside you. It's time to put that training to the test!"
I look at the two with a bit of worry. Minerva is absolutely ruthless and won't show them any mercy. "Let 'em help, partner." Yoshinon floats up in my face to tell me. "Remember, you don't have to fight alone."
...That's right. Minerva may have nearly killed me last time, but I'm stronger now, and more importantly, I have help.
"...Yeah. Thanks for the reminder, Yoshino." I thank my other half. Yoshinon nods and transforms into her scythe form. Grabbing it, I turn to the girls. "Alright. You two can help, but be careful. I've fought Minerva once before, so I know how ruthless she is."
The two nod, but then we hear an explosion the next moment. "Yoshino, Kotori's been shot down!" Reine alerts me.
I grit my teeth again. "No more talking! Get ready!"
"Right! Sandalphon!" Tohka calls her Angel and summons her Limited Astral Dress.
Origami, meanwhile, taps the side of her forehead, causing her to be engulfed in a bright light. After some mildly uncomfortable grunts, her swimsuit is replaced by her Realizer. She and Miyoi have received their Realizers from Asgard Electronics yesterday, and Origami's is actually [Brunhild], the same one she canonically uses in the anime, which fits because Origami will soon become a Spirit after we take back Metatron.
With the three of us ready, I quickly fly towards Minerva, who was ready to fire Artelif.
Third POV:
Minerva fires more light beams at Kotori, who deflects them with Camael before swinging the axe at her, but the Light Spirit controls Metatron to form a barrier to block. "Stop blocking and let me burn you down!" Kotori growls as she puts more force to try and break through the barrier.
Minerva laughs. "Now that's some nice bloodlust, there! I wonder, how many people died when you gained your powers?"
Kotori looks at her with surprise. "What? What are you saying?"
Seeing her opponent falter, Minerva manipulates Metatron to push Kotori back. "You're the one who really started that fire five years ago, right? Did you really not think that some people burned that day because of you?"
Kotori flinches in shock. "That... I didn't mean to..."
"To kill those humans that die? Why care about that?" Minerva grins madly. "Weaklings deserve to die! If you don't have power, you're nothing! But, we're Spirits! People already think we're monsters, that destruction is what we're capable of, so why not embrace that and kill to our hearts' content!?"
"No... I..." Kotori holds her head in her free hand, trying to deny Minerva's words. However, this left her completely open as Minerva fires more light beams at her, shooting her to the ground.
"KOTORI!" Shido, who was watching everything, screams in horror seeing his little sister get shot down.
Minerva looks down at her defeated opponent, noting the flames where her beams hit. "So, your flames give you an improved regenration, huh?" Minerva asks before smirking. "Then I'll just vaporize your entire body at once! Metatron, Artelif!" Metatron's cannons take a circular formation, with the tips all facing Kotori and gathering light.
"NO!" Shido screams, running to defend Kotori, which Minerva sees.
"Oh? Are you her precious big brother?" Minerva mocks. "Well, you can both die together!" She continues charging Artelif. "AND THIS TIME, [HERMIT] ISN'T AROUND TO SAVE YOU!"
"Don't be to sure about that." Her eyes widen when she hears at familiar voice to her right, and then she immediately sees a barrage of slave waves coming for her.
The Light Spirit cancels her charge and teleports to dodge, and the moment she reappears, she looks at her attacker with pure hatred. "[HERMIT]!"
Yoshino Himekawa, codename [Hermit], looks back with narrowed eyes. "Long time no see, Minerva Riddell." She greets coldly. "I see you have a new right arm to replace the one I chopped off."
"Yoshino!" Shido smiles in relief at the Spirit of Chesed's arrival.
Minerva snarls at her. "You...! This time, I will KILL you, [Hermit]!" She aims Metatron's cannons at her. "And you don't have the AST to help you this time!"
"But she does have US!" A voice shouts, and then Tohka flies past Yoshino and slashes at Minerva, who blocks with a barrier, but then Origami stabs at the barrier with a spear, the combined assault managing to knock the Light Spirit back.
"Tch, more worms." Minerva grunts, before looking at Origami. "Wait, you...!"
"Remember me, Mad Angel?" Origami glares.
"Yes. You're the first brat [Hermit] saved." Minerva smirks. "How lucky that all three of my escaped prey are here along her. Now I get to kill you all together!" She aims Metatron at them, but before she could fire, she is almost hit by a laser blast.
The three Spirits and Origami look in the direction where the blast came from and saw Miyoi Hanakai, who was wearing a red and white Combat Realizer with four wings. "I'd like to see you try!" Miyoi shouts in challenge.
"Nice of you to join us, Miyoi." Yoshino grins.
"Hey, this is the perfect chance to take [Gawain] for a spin." Miyoi grins back.
Minerva growls in agitation. "I've had it with you worms constantly coming out of nowhere!" She shouts. "I'll take you all at once!"
"Don't get cocky, Minerva!" Miyoi brandishes her sword and charges at Minerva. Tohka also charges at her, forcing the Light Spirit to dodge attacks from two directions.
"Shido!" Yoshino calls to Shido down below. "Go and seal Kotori while we keep her busy!" As she rushes to join the fight, the Sealer nods, knowing what he must do.
Shido's POV:
As the fight goes on in the sky, I turn to my little sister. I can't get in contact with Reine right now, so I can't confirm her gauges. But even still...
"Kotori!" I shout to get her attention. "Listen to me! You're my cute little sister! You're my greatest pride in this world! I love you so much! I love you!" Kotori gasps at my confession. That had to have done the trick! "Kotori, do you love me?" I ask seriously.
"I-I can't just answer that!" She stutters, struggling to answer. I could hear the fighting in the background and it's only a matter of time before Minerva tries targeing us!
"KOTORI!" I scream at her.
"I do!" She finally admits, looking up at me with teary eyes. "I love you too! I love you, Onii-chan! More than anyth-!" I cut her off as I kiss her, finally sealing her powers.
With the seal now complete, I turn to look up at the fighting in the air, more specifically at that woman, Minerva Riddell. I heard what she said earlier when Kotori fought her. Her complete disregard for human lives is honestly infuriating. She attacked even knowing that she could've killed people!
And she dared to call my sister, Tohka, and even Yoshino monsters! That bit is honestly what angers me the most.
I'm a mostly forgiving person... but Minerva Riddell is someone I cannot forgive!
I then feel something within me, calling me to bring it out. Acting on instinct, I stretch my hand out and call it forth.
Third POV:
"Kadour!" Metatron's cannons begin moving and firing on their own. Some of them fire at Origami and Miyoi, forcing them to combine their Territories for increased defense.
Seeing the two Wizards in a pinch, Yoshino throws Yoshinon like a boomerang to knock away the cannons firing at them. While throwing her weapon would leave her open to the cannons firing at her, Yoshino had put up her own Pure Reiryoku Territory beforehand to protect herself while completes her twirl, sending a small blizzards at her cannons, knocking them away.
Tohka, meanwhile, deflects the lasers fired at her with Sandalphon before sending slash waves at her cannons, knocking them away as all the cannons return to Minerva at the same time Yoshinon returns to Yoshino.
"You stubborn bitches!" Minerva growls in irritation. "Artefil!" Metatron's cannons take a circular formation, with the tips all facing towards us. She begins charging her big attack, and Yoshino prepares to form a barrier to protect block...
But then, a beam of fire suddenly hits Minerva, making her cry out as her charge is interrupted.
"So, the Flame Spirit want to play some more..." She growls, turning to where the beam was fired, but what she saw shocks her. "Wait what!?"
Yoshino, Tohka, Origami and Miyoi look to where Minerva is looking, and to their surprise, they see Shido pointing a huge cannon at Minerva.
"It's Itsuka-kun! He using Camael's cannon form!" Origami exclaims.
"Shido can use Kotori's power!?" Tohka exclaims in surprise.
Yoshino, however, was surprised different reason. She knew about Shido's ability to use the powers of the Spirits he's sealed, but he didn't expect that he would realize it this soon.
Glaring up at Minerva, Shido recalls Camael and stretches his right arm out. "Sandalphon!" He shouts, and then Tohka's sword appears in his right hand.
"That's my Angel!" Tohka gasps, shocked to see Shido using her power too.
Shido focuses Kotori's power at his feet, and then launches himself into the air high enough to reach Minerva and slash at her. The Light Spirit dodges to the side, but Shido quickly follows up with another slash, forcing her to teleport away.
"Damn bastard! How are you using the Spirit's powers!?" Minerva shouts. Shido doesn't respond, instead releasing slash waves using Sandalphon. Minerva dodges them and counters by firing light beams, but Shido creates a barrier of ice to block them all. "[HERMIT]'S POWER, TOO!? WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS!?" The Light Spirit screams in outrage as Shido dispels the barrier and charges for another slash.
The girls look on as Shido fight Minerva, demonstrating his ability to use Spirit Power. "Well, what do you know?" Miyoi says with surprise. "I knew the Casanova could seal the Spirits' power, but I didn't know he could also use them."
"It was a possibility that was discussed between me, Origami, Kotori and Reine." Yoshino explains. "And looks like it's been confirmed to be true."
"So, does that mean the more Spirits Shido seals, the stronger he becomes?" Tohka asks, sounding intrigued.
Yoshino nods. "Yes. With enough training, Shido could theoretically become a one-man army." Tohka and Origami look surprised to hear of Shido's potential. "But right now, it's clear that he's acting on instinct." The Water Spirit notes Shido's fighting style as a light beam pierces his left arm, which makes her flinch with worry, but thankfully, he has Camael to patch the wound. "He can't Minerva alone. He needs our help."
"Then what are we standing around for? Let's get back in the fight!" Miyoi urges, and the girls nod in agreement.
Minerva blocks another slash from Shido and pushes him back, forcing him to regain his balance to stay in the air. "Heh, you did alright for trash, but it's clear that you've never fought before." She taunts him. "You should've went into hiding when you had the chance! Metatron, Kadour!" The cannons begin moving on their own, locking on to Shido, but they were quickly shot down by a mix of lasers and slash waves coming from behind him.
Shido then sees Tohka, Origami and Miyoi charge from behind and attack Minerva as the Mad Angel dodges, and then turns to see Yoshino flying to his side. "Yoshino!"
"Looks like you've sealed Kotori, Shido." Yoshino smiles proudly at him. "We'll talk later. Let's defeat Minerva!"
Shido gives a determined nod. "Right!" He responds, and he charges forward while Yoshino turns into mist.
Minerva teleports to dodge another attack from Tohka, but then she sees Shido charging at her and quickly forms a barrier to block, but then Yoshino reforms above her and performs a downward spin slash, the combined force managing to break her guard, leaving her open to a double blast of fire and ice from the two which knocks her back.
Minerva growls at having been hit and flies up higher into the air. "Shemesh!" Metatron circles around her and releases a rain of energy blasts below her. Tohka, Origami, Miyoi and Yoshino skillfully dodge the energy rain, while Shido, with his improvised flight, instead creates an ice barrier to shield himself.
"Everyone, let's finish this!" Yoshino shouts at the others.
"Yeah!" They shout back.
Yoshino uses her Mist Dash to weave through Shemesh, reforming in front of Minerva. The Light Spirit forms Metatron into a defensive position to block, but this was what Yoshino was aiming for.
Charging her scythe with Pure Reiryoku, Yoshino slashes through Metatron, causing the Angel to shatter.
"WHAT!?" Minerva shouts, shocked by her Angel being destroyed.
"Origami! Miyoi!" Yoshino calls to the Wizards, using Mist Dash once again as Origami and Miyoi fire laser beams at Minerva, blasting off both her arms. The Light Spirit screams at the loss of her arms as she begins to also lose altitude.
"Itsuka-kun! Tohka-san! Now!" Origami calls to her classmates.
"Let's go, Shido!" The Spirit of Malkuth calls.
"Alright!" The Sealer replies as the two fly towards the falling Light Spirit. With a mighty shout, the two slash their swords down at Minerva, making her scream in agony as she is launched hard into the ground, causing dust to rise from the impact.
The five land on the ground as the dust clears, revealing Minerva, defeated and gasping for breath. Blood was pouring from the holes where she lost both her arms, and there is now an X-shaped wound on her chest where Shido and Tohka hit her.
Yoshino looks at the defeated Light Spirit, then at Shido. "Shido, I know you hate watching people die. You can leave now if it makes you uncomfortable." She tells him, before giving him a gentle smile. "You've done enough helping us defeat her. I won't ask anymore of you."
Shido takes a deep breath. Even though it was his job to save Spirit, even he had to agree that...perhaps Minerva was a Spirit not worth saving. "Alright." He nods, and then turns to leave. Tohka decides to follow after him, leaving Origami, Miyoi and Yoshino as the Strongest Spirit walks up to Minerva.
"[Hermit]..." Minerva glares at Yoshino with whatever strength she has left.
"It's over, Minerva." Yoshino states calmly. "Five years ago, you stole a Sephira Crystal from the Spirit of Origin and used its power for destructive purposes, attempting to take the lives of three children in the process. Yet, those same three children helped bring your ultimate defeat. Ironic, isn't it?" She grips her scythe with both hands. "Now, it's time to do as I promised, and take back Metatron."
Yoshino raises her scythe into the air. In that moment, the little girl looked like a reaper in Minerva's eyes, one who has come to end her life. "Farewell, Minerva Riddell."
Yoshino brings the scythe down, the blade piercing Minerva's heart, marking the end of the Mad Angel's life. Upon sensing its hosts death, a white glow comes from Minerva's chest, and a white Sephira Crystal emerges, leaving the body to dissolve in a white light.
Yoshino gently grabs the Sephira Crystal as Origami and Miyoi walk up to her. "So, it's finally done, huh?" Miyoi asks.
The Water Spirit nods at her, before looking at the crystal. "I've fulfilled my promise, Mio." She says quietly, so that no one would hear.
Far overhead, Mio Takamiya, still in her mosaic disguise, looks at the end result with a smile. "Thank you for retrieving Metatron, Fuyu." She thanks the reincarnated soul. "I'll entrust you to give it to its rightful owner." She then vanishes before anyone could notice her.
AND MINERVA IS GONE!
Well, this was quite exciting, Kotori's been sealed, Shido has realized the other half of his powers early, Minerva's been defeated, and Metatron's been reclaimed.
Next chapter will be the aftermath of the battle, along with something extra to end Arc 1!
