The coolest heatwave ever / the strange case of Minimus-Hyde

Today was a hot day. Hotter than anyone was expecting. Dede was currently walking to school with Paloma, fanning herself. "How are you not bothered by this heat? I'm literally sweating."

Paloma smiles at her friend. "I'm used to this heat. It was very hot where I used to live."

Dede perks up at this, Paloma doesn't talk much about where she was from. "Oh, and where was that again?"

Paloma hums, like she was thinking of something. "Somewhere very far away." She could see that Dede wanted to ask more questions so she quickly looked around, thankfully seeing something that'll distract her. "Hey. What's that?"

Dede looks over and sees a man standing in his front yard next to a weird looking machine. As the two stopped to watch the man work in confusion, the sound of the house's front door opened up, the two girls looked over, and they saw King Bob walk out of the house. King Bob walks over to the two girls, and Dede smiles happily at him. "Hey Bob, so do you live here?"

King Bob nodded as all of their attention was grabbed by the man by the spinners machine, as it admits a strange noise. "Is that your dad?" Paloma asks.

"What's he doing?" Ask Dede.

"He's studying strange sightings in the area. He thinks there might be aliens." Baba. This is the two girls making both girls look nervous. "Silly huh?" Both girls chuckled nervously as they agreed with him. The strange machine started to admit a loud beeping noise as the dish started to spin around, making Bob's dad trip over some of the machinery. "Told you."

"We-well we best get going to school, don't wanna be late do we?" Dede stammered. "Want to walk together Bob?"

unless it's three students or walk to school together. The girls both hoped the machine was just faulty and wasn't picking up on either of them.

If people thought being inside the school would be a lot better than being outside, they were sorely mistaken, as inside the classroom just as hot, maybe even hotter than outside. As all the students in Ms Grotke's class were sitting and trying to listen to her lecture, They're all trying not to groan in discomfort at the heat. "And our current heatwave is a pointed reminder that we, too, share mother earth's loss of her beloved ozone layer."

Spinelli was the first to announce her own discomfort about the heat. "Ugh! I'm so hot, I think my brain is boiling over."

Vince was quick to agree with her. "Hey, at least we can count on those old blades to keep spinning."

And as if the University heard him, that was when the blades of the fan stopped working. Dede turned to look at her friend, with an unimpressed look on her face. "Nice one Vince, you just jinxed it."

Vince groaned, agreeing with the Dedes statement. "Oh, man."

Ms Grotke just looks at the fan in apprehension, not knowing what to do about this situation "Bummer, and Hank the Janitor is out today with heat frustration. Not to worry, though, students. We still have our most powerful cooling tool at our disposal."

This made all the students pack up, none more than TJ, who exclaimed in excitement. "Whomping-bobula! Central A.C.?"

"Uh, no, TJ, the power of creative visualisation." All the students were disappointed in Ms Grotke's answer to TJ's question. "Yes, the best way to escape the heat is in your mind. Close your eyes and picture a cool place far, far away."

"Far away? You mean, like the sun?" Phil asked.

"Actually, the sun is quite warm. "

"How about Death Valley?" Gord asked.

"Uh, no." Ms Grotke once again said just before the bell rings.

"Well, out of the proverbial frying pan and into the fire that is recess." Gretchen says as all the students stand up and start walking out of the classroom.

Ms Grotke does one more callout before all the students leave. "Remember, students, visualise."

"Pictures in my brain. I hear you, Miss Grotke. Thanks." Bus stops in front of Miss Grotke, before following his friends outside.

.-.-.-.-.-.-.

Outside on the playground the eight friends were all standing around, trying to figure out what to do to stay cool. TJ was not used to standing around though. "Look, we can't fritter away our god-given recess because of a little heat."

Vince was in agreement with TJ. "Yeah, I say we monkey around on the monkey bars."

They all look over at the monkey bars to see a girl jumping on them, only to quickly let go as she screams in pain. "Ah! My hands are on fire!"

Ms Finster walks over to the girl. "Well, splash some water on it and get to the nurse, girlie." as the girl runs after the school nurse Ms Finster groans as she sticks a sign into the ground. "I haven't seen heat like this since Guam."

Mikey suggests his own thoughts. "Um, perhaps an energising game of b-ball will make the time pass more pleasantly."

they look over to the basketball court to see Lawson there. They see him bouncer basketball only for it to melt into the tarmac, "I'm no sports expert, but I'd venture to say that game is going nowhere." Gretchen says

"That liquid b-ball reminds me of water, which reminds me I'm dying of thirst!" Spinelli groans.

Dede nods in agreement. "Let's go to the water Fountain."

When they got to the water fountain they spotted a huge line. Oh, man, that line will take forever." Vince groaned, unhappy with what was going on.

TJ then suggests an alternative. "Well guys, I say we ride this recess out in the shade." As the group kept walking over the playground, they kept seeing every shady spot was already filled to the brim with other students. "Bunch of shade hogs!

"Guys, I've got an idea." Vince says.

Vince's idea was to hide behind the tether pole, this didn't give them much shade or any shade at all. "Great call, Vince. Next time, could you find us a pole with branches?" Spinelli voiced her opinion.

Dede grows as she continues to fan herself with her hand fan. "I really appreciate the thought Vince, but this doesn't do much to help."

"I feel cool and refreshed." Gus gushed, not feeling the heat at all.

Paloma nodded, agreeing with Gus. "Yeah, it's not too bad."

"What have you got, ice for brains?" Asked Spinelli.

"Or a secret water stash, perhaps?" Gretchen joined in.

Gus stummered. "No, but--"

Mikey cut Gus off. "Oh, water, how I love thee. Let me count the-- Wait a minute." he points over to the water fountain. "Look! There's no line!"

TJ cheers as all eight of them run over to the empty fountain. "Go! Go! Go! Go!"

Mikey was first to reach it. "This will be most refreshing." When he tried to get some water out all the Fountain did was clink and clang, as it didn't spit out even a drop of water. "Why, that wasn't refreshing at all."

Gretchen gasps in realisation. "Oh no! It appears that with the high volume of use, the water system has engaged its automatic shut-off."

Dede looks over at her smart friend. "But you can turn it back on, right?"

Gretchen shakes her head negatively, knowing that she can't fix this for her friend. "I'm afraid only Hank knows how to do that."

TJ crumbles angrily at this. "Figures he picks the hottest day of the year to get heat frustration."

"Oh, Mother Nature, are we to cook like so many ill-fated, though delicious, hot dogs?" Mikey receipts in distress.

A new voice calls out from behind the group, making them all look behind them to see Butch, leaning against the building wall. "Word on the street is this school's water system as a backup restart valve. Somewhere out on the playground."

Dede smiles happily at seeing her fifth grade friends. "Hey Butch, What are you talking about?"

Butch nods at his younger friend. "Way I hear tell, it's located all the way out there. They say it ain't been engaged since the Dust Bowl. If someone switched it on, I bet you would restart that fountain lickety-split."

TJ walks forward a bit, determined. "That's what we'll do. Not just for us, but for overheated kids all over the playground. We're going to get that water back on."

All seven of his friends cheered in agreement. Butch however, was being his typical self. "Sure you will, if the heat don't get you first."

After Bush had walked off, Gretchen had pulled out a map of third Street elementary schools playground. "Cross-referencing Butch's information with my extensive knowledge of the school's plumbing system, I've determined the backup restart valve to be here. Crossing the entire playground will be no picnic, in this sun. So I've incorporated one rest stop primarily for shade here."

Spinelli looked at her friend in confusion. "Rest stop? I don't get it. We must have

crossed the playground millions of times."

Gretchen nodded, understanding her friend's confusion about the needed rest stop. "But never in this heat. With no water to quench our inevitable thirst, every inch could seem like a mile."

TJ stands up, looking at all of his friends. LIt's gonna be tough. Some of us

might not make it. Everyone sure they want to do this?" At everyone's agreement, TJ continued. "Let's go, and, people, I've seen me some desert movies. Heat like this can play tricks with your brain, so let's be careful out there."

before any of them could make a move, a beeping sound rings out. Seven of the friends all look to Dede as usually the beeping comes from her, and they were wrong. Dede's bracelet was beeping as normal, making her cover it, as she looked at her friends. " I just remembered, I've got a water bottle in my bag. I'll be right back."

All of her friends just shake their head used to this by now. Dede was quick to hide behind something. "Hopefully it's iciclia. I could use a nice cold mission right about now." Dede sighs before she answers the call on her bracelet. "Atomic Candy reporting for duty."

Admiral DeGill appears in the hologram, making a tower out of cards in his office. "Atomic Candy. We need your help. Minimus is terrorising the foggy Marsh planet, Morboggus."

Dede was confused by this. "Don't you mean Maximus?"

"No, it appears that minimus is the culprit this time take a look" DeGill points to the screen of a giant minimus, destroying a small space ship. "He seems to have turned into some kind of nasty creature." as minimus charges at the camera it scares DeGill causing him to knock down his tower of cards. Thoroughly unpleasant chap. You must go to morboggus and investigate."

Dede notes before she ends the call. "I'm on my way." She presses a button and gets beamed up to her ship.

As Dede entered her ship, she was unaware that just a few streets down, a machine was beeping rapidly as it picked up the signal from her ship. "The radar has detected a UFO. This is the proof I have been waiting for." The guy in his front yard cheered as he did a little happy dance.

.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

As Dede gets onto her chair, Sparky turns around from his position in front of the wheel. "Hiya chief looks like we're going after minimus. Should be a piece of cake. Oh cake." Sparky runs and grabs a piece of cake before eating it in one go..

Dede looks at her green alien friend. "I don't know Sparky, he looks pretty dangerous."

X-5 puts in his view. "According to my data minimus' head swivels between good and evil. He appears to have malfunctioned and is stuck on evil."

"Guess you can call him minimus-Hyde." Dede jokes as her and X-5 laugh.

Sparky laughs as well before he stops and looks at his two crewmates. "I don't get it." he says.

"Doctor, Jacqueline, Mr Hyde, one was good, one was evil." Dede explains.

"It's a famous earth story." Says X-5.

.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

(Unless the Atomic betty episode plays a massive part in the story, for Dedes missions I'll just do a quick synopsis of what happens)

They arrive on Morboggus and look round the foggy and deserted streets, but see no sign of Minimus Hyde. They enter a nearby inn, and are surprised to find it jam packed, and one of the Morboggians says that they are hiding from Minimus. Dede tries to calm the Morboggians by reassuring them that they will take care of Minimus, however they are laughed at. They sit down, and a shady figure in a dark cloak states whether they think they can stop Minimus, before pulling his hood down and revealing him to be Maximus I.Q.

Dede, Sparky and X-5 face Maximus, who states that he has only one thing to say to Dede, then, to her surprise, falls on his knees and begs her to stop Minimus. He weeps that Minimus is going to destroy his precious ceramic ducks, causing laughter to erupt. Sparky laughs at him about how the mighty Maximus is powerless without his little ducky wuckies, but after a death stare from Maximus, he shuts up. Dede asks why Minimus has come to Morboggus, and Maximus shows her his last remaining duck that has "made in Morboggus" engraved on the bottom of it. Maximus says that Minimus is trying to get back at him by destroying the duck factories, and begs Dede to stop him. Loud crashing noises come from outside, and Sparky reports that it is Minimus Hyde. The Morboggians all run screaming, while Dede, Sparky and X-5 head out to face him.

Minimus Hyde is smashing up the houses, shouting "Minimus destroy ducks!" Dede, Sparky and X-5 try and stop him with lazers and nets, but nothing stops him. Minimus Hyde continues to destroy Morboggus, and Maximus considers that perhaps he can make the most of this situation and orders Minimus Hyde to destroy Atomic Candy because she wants to stop him from destroying the ducks. Minimus Hyde shouts that he does not listen to Maximus anymore and throws rocks at Maximus, ordering him to dance, like Maximus did at the beginning. Maximus hops around like an idiot and cries for Atomic Candy to save him. Sparky says they should just watch and see where it goes, but Dede says no, because every life is valuable, even a Supreme Evil Overlord's.

Minimus Hyde grabs Maximus and shakes him around like a rag doll, shouting "Minimus destroy Maximus's ducks!" and Dede has an idea. They use their cloaking devices to disguise themselves as ducks and run round Minimus Hyde, trying to catch his attention. He takes the bait and throws Maximus into a building and tries to catch the ducks. Dede shouts that they have to turn his head back to his good side. X-5 secures his feet and Minimus Hyde tries to grab them, but as he does, his head dislodges and spins round again. It stops at his good side, and he shrinks back to normal Minimus.

He looks around, confused at where he is, then spots Maximus and hugs him and says thank you for liking his dusting. Maximus shakes him off in irritation and orders him to destroy the ducks that are Dede, Sparky and X-5. Minimus says that he couldn't possibly do that to Maximus's precious ducks, but then they uncloak themselves. Minimus's head swivels round to evil and demands what they are doing here. Everybody gasps in fright, and Minimus questions why everybody is looking at him. Everybody sighs and Maximus scolds Minimus for having the Galactic Guardians at his mercy yet he didn't destroy them. Still very confused about what is going on, Minimus says he will do so much better next time.

.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

Just before Dede was dropped back off onto Earth, She made sure to grab eight water bottles and fill them up with nice cold water. She had told Sparky and X-5 to drop her off behind the Ashley's clubhouse. As she landed she was about to go and look for her friends, but Gus' shout of 'QUIET!" Told her she wasn't far. "Hey guys, there you are."

The seven kids all look over to see Dede running to them. "Where have you been?" Spinelli asked as Dede stopped in front of her.

Dede held up a water bottle. "I said I forgot about my water bottle. Here, I packed one for all of us."

As soon as she handed the water bottles out all her friends were chugging the water down like they'd never see water again. Vince was the first to finish his. "Thanks a lot Dee, I needed that."

TJ nods. "If you leaving strangely during a heatwave means you bring some nice cold watch back with you, we won't even ask where you've been."

Dede laughs as all her friends agree, finishing their drink. "You're just in time to hear about Gus' daredevil story with us." Paloma says as they all start walking again.

"Daredevil?" Dede was confused.

Gus nodded and then proceeded to tell them all about the time he helped his dad stop a bad guy in the alps. "So, anyway, that's what I've been thinking about all this time."

Gretchen walked forward as Gus had stopped to look back at the others. "What an amazing sto-- Oh!"

"You OK, Gretch?" Gus asked as Gretchen looked back on what she had tripped on.

"Yes, I appear to have tripped on a protruding pipe of some sort." She moved the bush to the side and saw what they were looking for. "Eureka! It's the backup valve."

"What? We made it? But how?" Paloma asked.

Gretchen stands up. "Apparently, we made it across the last part of the playground without even thinking."

"Gus, your tale of derring-do was a magic carpet that transported us to our appointed destination." Mikey cheers in his own way.

"Wait a sec. You mean all Grotke's gobbledygook about visualising and junk really works?" Asked Spinelli.

"It must. I've got chills." Vince shivered.

TJ smiled in wonderment. "Wow, I guess we should have paid attention to you a lot sooner, Gus. Sorry, buddy. Well, we came all this way, let's fire her up. Gus, I think you should do the honours."

Gus smiled as he went and turn the valve. "Did it work?"

They all looked at the playground as the sprinklers turned on, making Spinelli cheer. "Did it ever!"

"Whomping bobula! Dig that crazy water!" TJ also cheered as all of them went and joined the other kids on the playground in playing games.

The end

.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.

Hi everyone, sorry for the LONG break and the very subpar return chapter. This year has not been a good one for me, with both my grandparents going into hospital and then loosing my grandad has made me not want to do much of anything if I didn't HAVE to do them.

It was because of that happening that I found my miraculous squad chapters as I was looking on my old laptop for pictures of my grandad.

Anyway, despite this chapter not being good I still hope it's okay as it's the start of the "second half" of "season 2"

I will try to upload once a month as I found uploading once a week was what had caused my massive burnout, but can't make any promises.

I am very thankful for everyone that has stuck with me despite not having the best upload schedule.
