Beyond The Pale Chapter 12
Author's Note: I do not own The Hunger Games
Horsa Georges, 17. Male Tribute for District 10 in the Fourth Hunger Games. 21st July A:D:D 4
It has been six days since Claire was killed, and after my pep talk with Harold, he seems to be returning back to his optimistic personality. Apart from his encounter with the pair from District 9 yesterday, it had been pretty quiet. Of course, half the Tributes are still alive. All I know was that Gordon, Sophie and James had died yesterday, information I learned from Harold. The District 12 male was chatting to Swift as Barbara and Flora kept watch. I expect Bessie is helping out at the ranch right now, or probably at school. Perhaps Brandy is butchering hogs right now, the meat being sent to the Capitol. This was one of the reasons the Districts rebelled seven years ago. A scream snapped me out of my thoughts, as Swift and Barbara jumped up.
"Did you hear that, Swift?" Barbara whispered to the dark-skinned boy.
"I did, Barbara. It sounded like District 9" Swift replied in a low voice.
"Think we'd better investigate, Barbara. Wheat and Ginger might need our help" Swift suggested.
"Okay" Barbara chirped. Without warning she and Swift ran towards the directions of the screams. I have a bad feeling about this.
"Tired?" I heard Flora ask, as I nodded. "Just rest a while, Harold and I will keep watch." Closing my eyes, I drifted off, the tiredness of the past six days catching up to me.
Loud screams woke me up. "Huh?" I said sleepily, as Flora and Harold picked up their weapons. Picking up my kukri, the three of us went to search for Swift and Barbara. On the edge of the field, sprawled in a pool of blood, lay my District Partner. "Barbara!" I gasped, horrified at the sight. Beside her lay Swift, his corpse covered in cuts.Three of my allies dead. "Look over there" Harold said, his left hand waving at two forms in the distance. Cautiously, I made my way to the forms with Harold. The corpse of a girl lay, numerous stab wounds all over her and a spear through her upper stomach. Beside her lay the corpse of a boy, an arrow in his left eye and slashed to pieces. "Wheat and Ginger, District 9" I whispered to Harold as he picked up Wheat's corpse. Going back to where Swift and Barbara was, I told Flora about the sight. She agreed to help us take the corpses to the morgue. Laying Barbara and Swift down on the ground, I could see the bodies of the dead. Districts 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 9 had lost their Tributes already. Leaving the morgue, Flora, Harold and I returned to the bleachers. Hopefully we can get a good sleep.
So Barbara and Swift are now gone, meaning we're coming to the endgame.
