Well now Mephiles is hopping for a good night sleep but let's see what happens

A Mysterious Murder On the Doorstep

However, a while after Mephiles drifted to sleep there was a knock on his door waking him up. He looks at sees Hackmon is sound asleep. But the knocks keep coming

He sighs and gets out of his chair and goes to the door and answers it and he saw who it was, a purple cat mobion in a purple coat, white pants and gloves and white and white healed shoes and her hair done up with a red hair band and she had a red jewel on her forehead. This was Blaze the Cat, one Mephiles considers his closest friend

"Mephiles!" Blaze said looking concerned

"Blaze?" Mephiles asked surprised to see her here at this time

"Come with me!" Blaze said and quickly leaves

Knowing better then to wait Mephiles closes his door and follows her, but he was confused on what was going on and said to her "Blaze?" She didn't respond so he repeats "Blaze!"

"What?" She snapped looking at him as they walked but calms herself and said "Sorry….I'm…." She looked a bit shaken "What is it?"

"Where happened?" Mephiles asked concerned

"I just can't get into it this second. We need to hurry to…" Blaze began saying but stopped as they bump into Luigi coming from the corridor to the lifts

"Hello!" Luigi said.

"Hello there, good morning or…evening" Blaze said smiling

"Ha, oh yeah" Luigi said nodding

Blaze and Mephiles pass him and go to the lift and Blaze says to the sheriff as he calls the lift "The walls here are paper thin…We need to be careful. We'll talk outside"

Mephiles nods understand and the two get into the lift to head to the lobby

Once they reach the lobby they walk to the door and Mephiles sees a coat covering something. Upon seeing it Mephiles knew it to be Ralph's security coat who was still asleep.

Mephiles walks to it heading outside and down the steps and crotches down as Blaze joins him. He exchanges a look with Blaze before removing the coat and what he saw shocked him. There before him was the head of the woman he just met tonight "No…" Mephiles said looking down

"You knew this girl?" Blaze asked approaching as she could tell from Mephiles' reaction he recognized her "Is…. she's not a Mundy…right?" Mephiles shakes his head to acknowledge she wasn't a Mundy. "Who was she? I thought, I knew everyone in Fictiontown, but she does look familiar. I just can't place her though."

Mephiles thought the same, but he best admits to what he knows but being tactful he says "She's a working girl."

"A working girl?" Blaze said not getting it "I don't…I mean…I'm a working girl…oh." She then realized what Mephiles meant. She then gave a look for the full story

"Qrow Branwen. He attacked her in one of his drunken rages, I stepped in. Then he threatened to kill us both." Mephiles explained, though if he was the cause of it, it would shock Mephiles at how far Qrow had fallen

"No…you don't think he…." Blaze asked in shock

"I don't think anything yet, still too early. Just gimmie a second" Mephiles said as he checks the head

"It's just….terrible" Blaze said a bit upset "…It took me a second to realize what I was even looking at."

"Okay…tell me what happened. Every detail" Mephiles asked Blaze.

"I do wish there was more to tell…I left my office…walked past Ralph's security deck. Luckily he was asleep." Blaze recounted

"Oh Ralph?" Mephiles said nodding at that

"Yeah. Then I opened the door, and I found her. Like this." Blaze finished up "I came to get you right away"

"And that's all?" Mephiles asked to be sure

"Yeah, that's everything. I'm sorry" Blaze said nodding "Mephiles, be honest. Did, one of us…do this?"

"There hasn't been a murder in Fictiontown in…. a long time…" Mephiles said thinking on it, it was true though Fictions were extremely durable but it didn't mean they were impossible to kill but it had been a very long time since someone was murdered.

"All the more reason we shouldn't start a panic before we know for sure what's going on" Blaze said with a nod. She looks and see some people passinb by but luckily no one seeing them "Have a look around. We don't have much time before people will be coming through here." Blaze said as she keeps a look out

Mephiles nods and looks at the head. He then moves and loses her eyes to be respectful. He looks at her neck and noticed it was a clean cut "This is a strange cut…. what did this to her?"

"What could do something like that?" Blaze asked concerned

"My guess, something very sharp, or something with magic attached to it." Mephiles guessed as he looks looking and adds "She was placed here with some care."

"What do you mean?" Blaze asked

"Well, you can see someone didn't toss her here." Mephiles explained "She was deliberately placed…. for us to find."

Blaze surprised asked "What kind of monster would do this?"

Mephiles then looks at her mouth and sees something was sticking out "What is?" He pulls it out and sees it's a black ribbon with a ring attached to it "It's her ribbon" He said shocked, he looks at the ring which had a symbol of a skull with a helmet "There's some kind of symbol on here."

"Mm, I…I don't recognize it." Blaze admits to him

"Nor do I" Mephiles admits with a nod. Finished with looking he stands back up and looks right and sees a blood trail.

Blaze umcomfortable looking at the head said "Ugh, I….I'm sorry, this is just a bit surreal," Mephiles looks at her sighs a bit "Uh, what do you want to do next?"

"Well we do still have some time…. I better use it to investigate the area" Mephiles said after thinking

"Alright, good idea" Blaze said nodding in agreement

Mephiles first goes to Blaze and asked, "Hey Blaze, you, okay?"

"Yes, thanks you. But you should hurry, we don't have a lot of time left." Blaze points out "We should head back inside soon"

Mephiles nods and heads to where he saw the blood trail and looks at it "Blood, drops of blood. I will say it possibly been here…. about an hour, maybe?"

He moves forward to the fenced off alley and sees a scarp purple piece of fabric "No signs it's been here long…." He picks it up "Fabric…I say from a sash or coat. Doesn't tell me much."

He then moves to the fence and checks the trash can and finds nothing "Just some loose trash" He then looks to the fence and sees some of the spikes covered in blood "Yep, more blood."

He then thinks on it "Someone might of hopped the fence, got caught, then left the trail I found earlier" He then looks at the blood on the fence "It's still wet and those spikes are sharp enough."

He then heads back to the front and looks to the door. Blaze notices and asked "Where we going? Are we done?"

"I've seen enough" Mephiles said covering his eyes

"But…" Blaze began but stopped seeing the dejected look on his face "Alright" She then looks to the head "We should…. move her….before anyone shows up. We'll find out more at the business office. She'll be in the books. I'm sure of it."

Blaze looking concerned asked "Mephiles…. Do you have any idea what's going on? How did this happen? Why her? It's just so…aweful"

"Someone brought her in from the outside" Mephiles said to her telling her his current theory

"That would make sense. There's no sign of a struggle here" Blaze said nodding, liking that idea "But how do you know?"

"I found blood on the fence back there." Mephiles said pointing down where the blood trail was "Someone hopped over"

"Okay, good. That's solid." Blaze said nodding in agreement seeing logic in the theory "So someone from the outside…Well…at least they didn't come from inside the Emeralds.

Mephiles goes and kneels by the head again and sighs. Blaze walks over and said "I'm going to have to tell Scarecrow about this."

"Not using his actual name." Mephiles asked while looking annoyed, he didn't really like the Deputy mayor

"He is okay with either name at least" Blaze said but notes the look "Beside as long as Optimus Prime is gone, he's acting mayor…. he needs to know. And he's going to find out anyway, so may as well get out in front of it. Besides it'll just be worse if he finds out we held it from him" She sighs, she didn't like working for Jonathan Crane as he treats her horribly but she had no choice "I know you don't like him but….he's our boss. This is part of the job.

Mephiles sighs, as much as he wants to not get him involved he didn't want to make it harder on Blaze so he said "I guess it's useless to drag it out."

"That's how I feel too" Blaze said nodding but happy Mephiles supports her in this "I am positive he won't be happy, but…it's just part of the process. I hope he can be rational about it."

"Yeah, I wouldn't hold my breath on that" Mephiles said doubtful

Blaze sighs giving a similar doubtful look and said, "Trust me, I'm not."

"I just don't want him interfering with this" Mephiles admits to her

Blaze walks up the steps and said "Scarecrow isn't what's important right now. We need to figure out who this girl was, so we can find whoever did this. Take this back to Doctor Granny. She can take a look at it. I'll meet you at the business office." She turns to head inside

Mephiles looks at the head and sighs and covers the head back up with the coat. He was going to find who did this and make them pay.

Well looks like they have a mystery in there hands, let's see what they uncover in the dark of Fictiontown
