Hey everyone! I am still alive, just rather busy with moving states and all that shit. I've been moving to Texas for the past 2 weeks, so I haven't gotten to update a lot. Staying in an airbnb in Texas for a month before me and my family get to our real house so I will try and update as often as I can in this timeframe. I'm happy to get back to writing though!

Rival OC will not be introduced in this chapter, as I am keeping this reserved for Grant vs Junpei.

Last chapter, we saw Junpei and his band of merry misfits go to the Chateau where Junpei was challenged to a battle against a trainer named Kole. He swiftly took victory against him, which earned him the noble title of Baron in the Battle Chateau. Junpei and Riolu recovered a lost treasure from Parfum Palace. Grant postponed his and Junpei's gym battle due to Tyrunt coming down with a sickness.

THIRD PERSON POV

As the first light of dawn began to crack through Junpei's window, he was already up, and getting his bearings together. The silence of the early morning was a stark contrast to the events of the previous day, reflecting the calm yet determined mindset with which he approached each new challenge.

As he looked himself over in the mirror, double-checking he had everything, he heard his pokeball pop open as Riolu let herself out of her pokeball. He gave her a small head pat as she nuzzled into his hand. He tidied his outfit one last time before opening his door to head downstairs.

Junpei made himself some toast while he waited for everyone to get up. In the meantime, he did his daily morning routine with all his pokemon, continuing to train until everyone was ready. His mother was the second to get up, then Jerry, but no Serena. He wanted to get to the gym early to catch up with Grant and brief his pokemon. "Well, I'll just get her up myself." Junpei said, Jerry shot him a look.

"I don't think thats a good idea" Jerry warned.

"Nah, it'll be fine." Junpei saw nothing wrong with the idea so he decided to prove it.

He went towards the guest bedroom that Serena was given, he saw the door was closed, and there was no glow emitting from under the door, so he assumed the lights were off. 'She must still be asleep,' Junpei concluded.

Junpei reached for the handle, "Hey Serena, I want to get to the gym early so can you hurry-" Junpei shouted, but before he could finish his sentence, the door had opened fully, now revealing what was in the room.

In the room was not a sleeping Serena, but a Serena in her undergarments, changing into her everyday travel wear with Fennekin by her feet.

"Up" Junpei absently finished his sentence before he froze upon laying his eyes on her figure, and scanning her from top to bottom. She was holding her red skirt out in front of her, looking as if she was about to put it on when Junpei had opened the door.

She turned and froze in place upon locking eyes with the boy she was infatuated with. Serena then let loose a small whimper as her whole body began heating up, and steam was pretty much flowing out of her face.

"Haven't you ever heard of knocking Junpei!" She said, as Fennekin agreed with her letting out an ember towards the door. Junpei closed the door in a hurry before he could be seered by the attack. "My bad Serena!" Junpei said, with a small bit of redness barely visible on his face.

15 minutes later, Serena was ready to go, Serena and Junpei both blushed upon seeing each other again. 'I'm no pervert by any means, it was not my intention to get a look at Serena in her...vulnerable state.' Junpei thought about what had transpired.

"Ok guys, let's get going." "Bye Mom! I love you, take care."

"Bye, sweetie, stay safe, good luck challenging Grant." His mom finished before retreating back inside their home.

"Soooooo what happened upstairs?" Jerry tried to get info about the situation that will not be named.

"Nothing" Junpei and Serena both said simutaneously.

"Hmm ok!"

"You gave up surprisingly easy." Junpei noted, Junpei knew she could tell both of them were lying, so why didn't she press further?

"Well I know no matter how hard I tried, I probably wouldn't get an answer out of either of you."

Junpei confirmed what she said with a slight chuckle, "Yea not a chance."

They soon began walking on rocky terrain, which notified them they were coming close to the gym. The gym symbol came into view above a cave into the side of a cliff. They went inside the cave, walking for quite a bit, and were then greeted with the sight of a very dark gym upon exiting the tunnel. The only light leaking from the top of the open cave like a volcano.

"Huh wheres Grant?" Serena asked out loud.

A voice boomed from above them within the gym crowded with rocks and stones. "Glad you asked Serena!" Grant said, as the lights turned on, and illuminated the gym that housed Grant. Grant was seated on top of a cliff with various colorful rock climbing walls leading up to it, he then climbed down to where they were, landing gracefully, and finished off with a bow.

Junpei's stern look didn't falter as he asked, "Tyrunt feeling better?" Grant made a mocking sad face, "So cold to me, I worked hard on that landing you know?"

Junpei simply rolled his eyes, choosing not to reply.

"Wondering about Tyrunt? See for yourself." Grant gestured his arm to our right, towards an area with a lot of rocks where it sounded as if rocks were being broken. Tyrunt was crunching rocks between its jaws left and right, getting ready for the battle it seemed.

"So we can have our gym battle now?"

"Sure lets do it!" Grant said with a fire in his eyes as him and Junpei glared at each other, the heat of battle burning in each of their hearts. Burning so much that Serena and Jerry had to move away cause they were so heated up.

"Ok everyone, Riolu I know this is your first gym battle, don't let yourself get nervous, and try your best." Riolu gave a look of determination at Junpei and nodded.

"Grant is a rock type specialist, I haven't seen him battle in a long time so I don't know what moves he uses." Every one of his pokemon could see the fire in his eyes, and how much this battle meant to him.

"Alright everyone do your best!" Junpei said, he returned them all to their pokeballs.

"Ok Grant, I'm ready wheres the battlefield?" Junpei, puzzled, looked around for the battlefield that was nowhere to be seen. "Don't tell me you got this place renovated again..."

Grant awkwardly laughed and just pointed upwards, "Well, battlefields up there now, at the peak of my rock climbing wall." He gave a wide sadistic smile at that, forcing every challenger to climb to the top if they wanted a battle. Jerry spoke up however, "Grant I don't know about this, thats pretty high, probably over 100 feet tall."

"Well if you want a gym badge then you have to!"

Jerry gave up fighting it, and her and Junpei began the climb.

"Oh Serena, since you're not a challenger, you can take that elevator over there to the top" Grant pointed out an elevator around the large structure that would take anyone to the top within seconds.

"Oh you've got to be kidding me!" Jerry protested.

Grant then began climbing up, and he quickly passed Junpei and Jerry in reaching the top.

Grant chuckled as he watched Junpei and Jerry finally make it to the summit. "You see, I designed it this way not just for the challenge, but so that everyone can experience my love for rocks and climbing. It's not just about battling; it's about reaching new heights, literally and metaphorically!"

As they took their positions on the battlefield, the clear blue sky overhead through the open roof added an element of grandeur to the setting. "Everyone who comes up here gets a taste of what I love every day. It's about pushing your limits, understanding the rock, and really feeling the climb," Grant continued, almost lost in his passion for the sport.

Grant nodded appreciatively as Junpei and Jerry found their footing on the summit's rocky terrain. The atmosphere was charged, not just with the anticipation of a battle, but with the fresh, high-altitude air that lifted the spirits and sharpened the mind.

"May I ask, Junpei, what were you thinking about when you were climbing?" Grant queried, his tone both casual and probing.

Junpei shrugged, brushing a bit of dirt from his shorts. "Wasn't really thinking about anything, to be honest. Just climbing."

"Good," Grant responded with a nod. "And where were you looking during your ascent?"

"Up. I was looking where I wanted to go," Junpei replied, his gaze steady on Grant, sensing the underlying lesson in these questions.

Grant clapped his hands together, a wide grin spreading across his face. "Exactly right! When you're climbing, everything else disappears. You're focused solely on your next move, on reaching your destination. It's pure, it's liberating."

He paused, letting the breeze carry his words a bit before continuing. "You've conquered the physical wall today, Junpei. But the question remains," he said, gesturing between them and the waiting Pokémon, "can you conquer the wall I present to you here, where it's not just about reaching up but also pushing through?"

The question hung in the air, heavy with the implication of the battle to come. Grant's eyes twinkled with the thrill of competition, a stark reminder that this was more than just a battle for a badge, it is a test of all the hardwork that his been put in by these two ever since they were little. Now they have grown up to be an immovable force, and an unstoppable boulder moving forward.

"Now you've grown," Grant continued, gesturing to Junpei and then broadly around them at the rocky expanse, "from small pebbles buffeted by the elements into mighty boulders, resolute and unyielding. Today, we test the strength of your resolve, the hardness of your will against the trials I've set before you."

He stepped back, sweeping an arm over the battleground, an intricate array of boulders and plateaus that mimicked the natural ruggedness of the cliff they had just climbed. "This field is more than soil and stone; it represents the path of resistance, strewn with obstacles, each rock a decision, every crevice a dilemma."

Junpei nodded, absorbing the gravity of Grant's words. His eyes moved over the terrain, seeing not just a battlefield but a landscape of challenges, each one a chance to prove his mettle, to refine his strategies.

"Your Pokémon," Grant pointed out, "are like minerals. Under pressure, do they crumble into sand, or do they crystallize into gems of astounding beauty and resilience? This battle is your forge, Junpei. Here, we'll see if pressure can transform the potential of coal into the brilliance of diamonds."

Grant's gaze shifted as he surveyed the battlefield and Junpei's familiar stance. "We made a promise, didn't we? A good, honest battle to see who could push themselves further," Grant remarked, his voice tinged with excitement. "Well, today's the day we fulfill that promise. It's not just a test of strength; it's a measure of how far we've both come, molded like the rocks around us, through pressure, time, and sheer will."

With a firm nod, he positioned himself, the air charged with anticipation. "Let's see which of us has turned those childhood challenges into the foundation of something greater. This battle, it's our summit, Junpei."

With a final nod of respect, Grant positioned himself at his end of the field. "Let us begin, then. Show me the strength you've quarried from your experiences. Show me if you can shatter the barriers I place before you or if you'll be eroded by the relentless tide of challenge! Lets go Onix!"

Grant threw his pokeball high in the air as the ball let out the rock snake pokemon Onix.

"All I can do is fulfill that promise we made all those years ago. Riolu stand by for battle!"

"Ah June, a Riolu, you're just full of surprises aren't you? Do rare pokemon just flock to you?"

Junpei winced at the nickname coming back, but dismissed it.

The referee, a young man with wavy neck length dark blue hair, announced the typical rules. "The battle between Grant, the Cyllage City gym leader, and Junpei, the challenger from Cyllage City, is about to begin. Each side will use 3 pokemon, the battle is over when all of one sides pokemon is unable to battle. Only the challenger will be allowed to substitute pokemon. Battle begin!"

JUNPEI POV

The referee's command to begin the battle echoed briefly before I instructed Riolu. "Riolu, Quick Attack!" With swift obedience, Riolu harnessed her speed and dashed across the battlefield.

Grant countered promptly. "Onix, Rock Polish, then dodge!" A shimmering aura enveloped Onix, polishing Onix's body to harshly decrease the pull of the battlefield on Onix's movement. As Riolu closed in, Onix sidestepped with unexpected agility, causing Riolu to miss her target.

Serena, puzzled by Onix's nimbleness, asked, "Wow, how can Onix move like that?" Jerry explained, "Grant used Rock Polish, a move that significantly boosts a Pokémon's speed."

Frustrated by the miss, I decided to level the playing field. "Riolu, Work Up!" A fierce red aura radiated from Riolu as she clenched her fists, boosting her attack and special attack.

Grant saw an opportunity. "Onix, leap and use Rock Tomb!" Onix propelled itself into the air, summoning a barrage of rocks around it. "Dodge it with Quick Attack, Riolu!" I commanded. Riolu nimbly evaded the falling rocks, her movements precise and graceful.

Grant smirked, "Just where I want you. Use your momentum while your falling to use Iron Tail!" Onix shifted its momentum to above Riolu, and descended while getting ready for a massive Iron Tail.

"I could say the same thing Grant." I countered, "What?" Grant said, still not aware of what I meant, I let a smirk of my own play on my lips, "Riolu, Vacuum Wave!"

"No way!" Before Onix's Iron Tail could connect, Riolu motioned its paws in circles, whipping up a ferocious batch of vacuum, and shooting it above towards Onix. The move connected, leading Onix to let out a cry of pain, the force of attack carrying Onix back into the air, and falling, hitting the patch of battlefield in front of Grant hard.

"What a move! that'll cause some real damage for sure!" Jerry shouted while spectating in awe.

Serena clapped her hands together, noting the effectiveness of the attack. "Since Vacuum Wave is a Fighting-type move, and with Riolu powered up by Work Up, that hit must've hurt!"

"Onix you ok?" Onix struggled to get up, but ultimately managed to rise up. "That was some move June, I honestly thought I had you there, but you're really keeping me on my toes!"

I nodded my head, "Did you really expect anything less Grant? We trained hard for this battle!" I shouted from the other side of the battlefield.

Grant smiled as he threw his arm out in front of him, "Get in close Onix!" Onix maneuvered the terrain, moving through rock to get to Riolu. "Stay away Riolu!" I ordered, "After Riolu!" Onix's speed kept up with Riolu thanks to Rock Polish.

Riolu then began somersaulting backwards, dodging Onix's relentless attempts to smash Riolu with its sturdy head.

"Use Onix's own momentum against it!" As Onix lunged with another attack, Riolu used its head as a springboard to vault behind it.

"Flash Cannon!" Grant commanded, catching me off-guard as Onix quickly spun and fired a dazzling beam. The attack hit Riolu, knocking her to the ground.

"Riolu, can you continue?" Concern tinged my voice. Standing amid dirt and bruises, Riolu responded with a determined cry.

"Vacuum Wave!" Riolu launched another aerial assault. "Counter with Flash Cannon!" Onix fired back. The two attacks collided, with the wind's force sending the Flash Cannon skyward.

"Move in close Riolu!" I was forced to have Riolu move closer as ranged attacks would get us nowhere fast. 'If Grant used Rock Tomb, Riolu would be forced to move in anyway.'

Riolu broke the gap between her and Onix, Grant attempted to use Flash Cannon once more. "Quick-Attack!"

Riolu dodged under the Flash Cannon, she was now directly under Onix, she jumped up, delivering a swift uppercut to Onix's jaw.

Onix quickly recovered however, "Onix get behind Riolu, then use Flash Cannon!"

Onix in the blink of an eye, was behind Riolu delivering a Flash Cannon that scored a direct hit on Riolu. "What! It seems as if Onix got faster! That would mean..."

"Yup. Onix has the ability Weak Armor." Grant confirmed my suspicion, this could make things tricky.

"Hmm? But whats Weak Armor?" Serena asked Jerry, expecting her to know.

Jerry answered her with an explanation of the hidden ability, "Well its an ability that lets a pokemon raise it's speed at the expense of lowering it's defense when its hit by a physical attack."

"Oh ok, I see. So when that Quick-Attack hit, Onix's defense lowered while it's speed increased."

'Onix has taken a lot of damage, on top of its defense being lowered the next hit should knock it out.' I began playing out possible scenarios, Riolu was a valuable piece in this battle I didn't want to lose.

"Onix, swing around, Iron Tail!" Onix complied, its tail missing Riolu by a whisker as she spun past it.

"Now, Counter to finish this!" Riolu's leg glowed with energy as she delivered a powerful kick, knocking Onix out cold.

"Onix is unable to battle, Riolu wins!" declared the referee, raising his flag toward my side.

Grant complimented his Pokémon as he recalled it. "Well fought, Onix. You were impeccable." Grant complimented as he returned Onix to it's pokeball.

"Riolu has been trained well, certainly a bright spot in your party. It will grow up to be very strong, I have no doubt she will be invaluable in defeating the Kalos League."

"I cannot help, but be impressed, you two seem so in sync as if you have been fighting alongside each other for years!" Grant flattered, "With that being said, you still have two more pokemon to overcome if you want that badge!"

Grant tossed his second pokemon's pokeball he would be using onto the battlefield.

Another familiar fossil pokemon filled my sights, I decided to withdraw Riolu to save her for the pokemon I knew would be Grant's last.

Serena pulled out her pokedex, "Whos that pokemon?"

"Archeops, the First Bird Pokémon. This ancient Pokémon was restored from a fossil. Known as the ancestor of all bird Pokémon, Archeops is capable of flying but prefers running at high speeds on the ground, where it can leverage its powerful legs. When Archeops takes flight, it displays a breathtaking speed and agility that belie its primitive origins."

'Archeops is a hard hitter, I'll have to be considerate of how I attack.' I thought to myself, "In that case, Rufflet, stand by for battle!" I commanded, launching my Pokeball in a smooth backhand motion.

"Archeops, Wing Attack!" Grant's instruction was met with fierce energy as the ancient bird Pokémon dove forward.

"Rufflet, counter with Aerial Ace!" Both bird Pokémon charged, their paths colliding mid-air in a dramatic explosion. Despite both Pokémon maintaining flight, it was clear Rufflet bore the brunt of the collision. My fists clenched, I pondered our next move.

"Archeops, Rock Throw!" Grant commanded. The prehistoric Pokémon conjured several small rocks, hurling them at Rufflet. "Dodge it!" I called out. Rufflet swerved, but the rocks spread too wide, and a few struck him.

"You alright, Rufflet?" He nodded, toughing it out as Grant pressed the attack. "Quick Attack, Archeops!"

This was the opening I needed. "Wait for it, Rufflet." As Archeops zoomed in, I gave the signal. "Now, dodge and latch onto Archeops' back!"

Rufflet executed the maneuver perfectly, evading at the last second and securing a position on Archeops' back. "Get it off, Archeops!" Grant shouted, but to no avail.

"Slash, as many times as you can!" I ordered. Rufflet's talons moved in a blur, repeatedly striking.

Faced with no other option, Grant made a bold call. "Archeops, use Rock Throw on yourself!" Trusting its trainer, Archeops pelted itself with rocks, dislodging Rufflet but hurting itself in the process.

Both Pokémon were visibly worn from their exertions, setting the stage for a final showdown. "Rufflet, Aerial Ace!"

"Archeops, Wing Attack!" The commands were simultaneous, the Pokémon charging with the last of their strength. They met in a brilliant clash, a blinding light marking the collision. Both pokemon being thrown back, they both got up as they stared each other down...

Silence came over the gym as nothing could be heard except the rapid breaths of the two birds on the battlefield.

Both pokemon fall at the same time, swirls in their eyes.

The referee took over, "Both Rufflet, and Archeops are unable to battle!"

Wow, that was some clash. "Thanks Rufflet." I returned him to his pokeball for a good rest.

With Rufflet and Archeops out, the advantage was subtly mine. I still had Deino, fresh and ready, while Riolu had endured significant damage earlier. Grant, reading the field, prepped his final Pokémon.

"You've scaled two great challenges today," Grant acknowledged, his tone reflecting the pivotal moment. "But now, the highest peak awaits! Tyrunt, your moment has come!" His excitement was palpable as he released his final contender.

"Lets do this, old friend," I murmured to my own Pokeball, feeling the weight of the upcoming climax. "Deino, stand by for battle!"

The two pokemon, now released by their trainers, stared each other down. As they looked at each other, they began to reminisce.

**FLASHBACK**

DEINO POV

The world was a blur of scents and sounds, a tangled mess of the unfamiliar. Everything changed the day Junpei brought me to meet Grant and his Pokemon, Tyrunt. I wasn't officially his Pokémon yet; Junpei wasn't a trainer then, but there was an unspoken bond between us that felt as real as any pokeball could make it.

The first thing I noticed about Tyrunt was his energy. It was different, fiery and fierce, yet there was a playfulness in his eyes that drew me in. As Junpei and Grant talked, I heard Tyrunt approach me cautiously, his tail wagging slightly, a low growl of curiosity escaping him.

"Hey there, I'm Tyrunt!" his voice was boisterous, echoing around us. "Wanna see who can roar louder?" His challenge was playful, inviting.

I hesitated, my senses overwhelmed by this new experience. I let out a soft growl, not fully a roar, testing the waters. Tyrunt laughed, a deep, rumbling sound that vibrated through the ground.

"That's a good try! Let's play chase instead!" And just like that, he darted off, expecting me to follow.

And I did. We raced through the fields, dodging between tall grasses and leaping over small rocks. With each step, the unfamiliar became fun, the anxiety turned into exhilaration. Tyrunt was fast, but I was agile, weaving through obstacles with ease that surprised even me.

As the sun began to set, casting long shadows over the ground, we slowed down, resting near a cool stream. Tyrunt nudged a pebble towards me with his snout, an offering of friendship. "You're fun, Deino. We're gonna be great friends, you'll see!"

I nudged the pebble back, a sense of camaraderie washing over me. This was the beginning of something new, something exciting. Tyrunt and I didn't just get along, we connected in a way that promised countless adventures ahead.

**FLASHBACK END**

After that first meeting, Tyrunt and I often sparred together, each session fueled by a shared goal to grow stronger for our trainers. Junpei had spoken of the promise he made with Grant, inspiring Tyrunt and me to make a similar commitment. We vowed to face each other in full strength, giving everything we had in battle. Through countless training sessions and shared experiences, we both matured significantly as Pokémon. Despite the passage of time and all the growth we underwent, the memory of the promise we made that night remained vivid in our minds, a constant reminder of our purpose.

JUNPEI POV

"Start us off with Take Down Deino!" Deino began to be surrounded by a yellow light as he started charging towards Tyrunt. "Tyrunt, Dragon Tail" Tyrunt jumped as it intercepted Deino's Take Down, and met it with Dragon Tail. An explosion caused the two to skid backwards, wincing from the damage they received.

"Even match." Jerry noted, as Serena watched on with a worried look on her face.

Grant knelt down to one knee as he threw both of his arms out to his sides, "Now, Rock Tomb!"

"Deino, focus, sense where the rocks are, and dodge accordingly!" Deino listened to my advice, he felt where the rocks were landing, "Now use tackle on one of the rocks." Deino did so on one of the rocks that had previously landed. The hit carried it, and the rock slammed into Tyrunt with force, disorienting him.

"Capitalize Deino, Take Down!" Deino charged as Tyrunt was still confused as to where it was. "Tyrunt get a hold of yourself!" I guess Tyrunt heard Grant's pleas as the Royal Heir pokemon pulled through, "Good! Use Crunch!" Grant said as he clenched his fist in front of him.

THIRD PERSON POV

Tyrunt easily moved out of harms way of Deino's Take Down, it connected with a fierce Crunch to Deino's body, making Deino cry out in pain. A smoky explosion came from the Crunch after it was released, both pokemon on their respective trainer's sides, battling as hard as ever because they know better than anyone how much this means to them. Which is why a bright blue light swept over both the pokemons bodie's as their forms began to change. Deino's body got longer, and wider while growing a second head. Tyrunt on the other hand, grew in size tremoundously, gaining serated teeth, a much longer tail, and a white tuft on it's neck.

The newly evolved pokemon yelled out new cries as they readied for battle once more.

"Woah they both evolved" Jerry said, as the two spectators got out their pokedexes, and scanned the pokemon. Jerry scanned Grant's newly evolved Tyrunt, while Serena pointed her's at Deino or what previously was Deino.

"Tyrantrum, the Despot Pokemon and the evolved form of Tyrunt. Tyrantrum's massive jaws can shred thick metal plates as if they were paper. This Pokémon was originally the king of the ancient world, treating anything and everything as its prey. It is believed to have gone extinct due to a sudden climate change."

"Zweilous, the Hostile Pokemon and the evolved form of Deino. Each of Zweilous's heads has its own brain and will, compelling them to constantly squabble over food. Despite their bickering, Zweilous is a formidable Pokémon in battle, attacking relentlessly with powerful bites from both heads."

Serena was very happy for Deino and Junpei, she knew the both of them have been training very hard for this battle.

"It seems the determination, and their trainer's competive spirits have pushed them to their limits to evolve! They both have incredible passion and will to win this battle for their trainer!" Jerry summarized in disbelief of pokemon's abilities to go all out.

"Zweilous, wow you really want to win this huh? Thank you!" Junpei became inspired by Zweilous' wish to keep fighting on and win this! Zweilous nodded and gave a cry of approval.

"Tyrantrum..." Tyrantrum smiled at Grant, and nuzzled him, showing his appreciation for Grant.

"Alright lets continue this!" Junpei nodded at that, "Right!"

"Ok Tyrantrum use Crunch!" Grant commanded his newly evolved Tyrantrum, "And you use Take Down Zweilous!"

Tyrantrum began stomping towards Zweilous as the two moves fought for an edge over the other. As a detonation of power resulted in the collision, Deino being blasted backwards, still on his feet. He received damage from Crunch, and from recoil damage as well.

"Use Bite Zweilous!" Zweilous quickly bit Tyrantrum's neck, he winced in pain as he shook Zweilous off quickly. Zweilous hung in the air for a few seconds, Grant took advantage of Zweilous' vulnerability, "Dragon Tail!"

Tyrantrum turned around and smacked Zweilous with his tail glowing green. Zweilous was shot backwards, taking out a few rocks along the way, adding to the damage. However, Zweilous still managed to fight to it's feet, Junpei knew that Zweilous was on the ropes.

Without any commands given, the two pokemon then charged each other. The two trainers, left confused, said nothing. The pokemon charged in as they both showcased new moves they had learned from their evolution.

Tyrantrum began building up momentum as a vortex surrounded him as he moved forward.

"Thats Giga Impact!" Grant said, a tad shocked.

Zweilous had begun charging aswell with a blue dragonoid figure around him with him at it's helm. Zweilous was using Dragon Rush!

Sparks flew as the two powerful moves collided, neither Pokémon giving an inch. As Tyrantrum's Giga Impact met the fierce charge of Zweilous's Dragon Rush, a titanic struggle ensued, enveloped in a whirl of energy and raw power. Each Pokémon pushed against the other, their evolved forms amplifying the intensity of the clash. The arena vibrated under the sheer force of their wills, each blow echoing the profound desire to triumph for their trainers.

The atmosphere thickened with tension as the two moves battled for dominance. Tyrantrum, embodying the unstoppable force of Giga Impact, and Zweilous, channeling the unyielding rush of Dragon Rush, created a spectacle of primal power and determination. Their trainers, Junpei and Grant, watched with bated breath, knowing the outcome of this battle would reflect the culmination of years of friendship, rivalry, and mutual respect.

The collision crescendoed into a brilliant explosion, sending a shockwave that caused the lights above to flicker and some to shatter, casting brief shadows over the battlefield. As the dust began to settle and the last echoes of the clash faded, silence enveloped the gym.

Once the smoke cleared, only Tyrantrum stood.

On Junpei's side, Zweilous lay knocked out. Junpei smiled weakly as he returned Zweilous to its Pokéball. "You fought as hard as you could, that's all I can ask for."

He then took out Riolu's Pokéball, enlarging it with a press. "Riolu, stand by for battle!" He released the Aura Pokemon back onto the field.

'I need to power up Riolu to have a good chance at winning this, but Tyrantrum has already taken a lot of damage.' Junpei thought, "Riolu use Work Up!"

Riolu punched her fists together as she grinned to increase her attack power. "Draco Meteor!" Tyrantrum immediately opened it's jaws and fired Draco Meteor which exploded into many pieces, raining down on the battlefield.

"Use Vacuum Wave to redirect them!" Riolu successfully redirected the meteors, some happened to hit Tyrantrum which caused significant damage.

"Use Rock Tomb!" Grant said while making a punching motion in the air.

"I think we'll use that, ascend using the rocks Riolu!" Riolu successfully did so, getting very high up Riolu jumped off the last rock she could, "Great now use Vacuum Wave!"

The Vacuum Wave descended upon Tyrantrum causing it to groan, Grant decided to go all or nothing with his next attack.

"Giga Impact lets finish this!" Grant shouted, Tyrantrum wasted no time in rapidly charging with Giga Impact.

"Dodge it Riolu!" Junpei ordered, Riolu listened and jumped in the air, Grant wasn't giving up that easy though. "You jump too Tyrantrum, don't let Riolu get away!" With that Tyrantrum took a massive leap, heading straight for Riolu, Junpei had to think fast or this match was as good as over.

Junpei knew Riolu couldn't dodge in the air then Junpei widened his eyes, "Riolu use Vacuum Wave and propel yourself out of the way!" Riolu did so just in time, making Giga Impact narrowly miss Riolu. With that, Tyrantrum began his recharge after Giga Impact.

"Riolu, Tyrantrum can't attack right away so use Vaccuum Wave!" Riolu shot the Vacuum at Tyrantrum, scoring a direct hit, "Now top it off with Quick-Attack!" Junpei threw his arm in front of himself as he called out.

Riolu charged at the vulnerable Tyrantrum and delivered a powerful kick. Riolu knelt down, facing away from Tyrantrum as it fell behind her, finally defeated.

"Tyrantrum is unabke to battle! Which means the victory goes to Junpei of Cyllage City!" The referee raised his flag in Junpei's direction.

All Junpei could think was, 'The bigger they are, the harder they fall' as he smirked to himself.

He rushed to Riolu and hugged her. "We did it, Riolu. Great job!" His affection for his Pokémon was evident.

Riolu smiled back just before collapsing from exhaustion. Junpei gently picked her up and returned her to her Pokéball.

Grant returned Tyrantrum as well, "You hung in there, I wouldn't trade you in for the shiniest diamond in the world. Thanks Tyrantrum."

The childhood friends met at the center of the battlefield. "Promise fulfilled?" Grant offered his hand.

"Could've been better," Junpei joked before shaking hands, both smiling warmly.

"It was a pleasure to watch your battle, guys!" Jerry said, running up to them, with Serena and Fennekin close behind.

"You're next Jerry. Though it'll have to wait, that battle definetly put most of my team out for the count!"

"Whaaaat?" Jerry slumped, clearly disappointed.

The referee came over holding a case with a shiny object inside, "Junpei, I believe this is yours, proof of your victory here at the Cyllage City gym." Grant congratulated Junpei. To Junpei, it was more than just proof of victory; it was a testament to the promise they had made and kept.

Wow I really enjoyed writing this chapter more than I thought I would.

So yea the burning friendship and fighting spirit encouraged both Deino and Tyrunt to evolve! I know some may think its pretty early for Deino to evolve but just remember that Deino and Junpei have been together for awhile. All that time they have been training for this specific moment (and the kalos league of course too but thats besides the point) to defeat Grant and show how strong they have become together. All that in Deinos mind caused it to push past his endurance to win this battle.

One day, we will see Rufflet do something meaningful. Poor Rufflet, I feel bad for having done him like this, but he is still his 1st evolution stage so hes not meant to be crazy strong. He did hold his own against a fully evolved fossil pokemon lets be honest!

As always please let me know what you guys thought of this chapter! I hope the fight was to your guys liking, please let me know if I can improve upon anything!

Junpei hopes to evolve it into a battle ready Braviary to dominate the skies.
