Hey, whats up :)
I was kinda worried since I've been on hiatus for so long, but I'm glad you guys understand. Also, I recently got a new cat that I ended up naming after one of the RWBY cast that I've decided to ship Soap with first.
I might reveal who it is later, but I'll let you guys guess who it is :3
Anyway with that over let's get it, cheers!
CHAPTER SIX: A Scottsmans Initiation Part 2
In the Emerald Forest where the new students of Beacon were having their initiatio n to weed out the ones with skills to be future Huntsman and Huntresses, where humans and faunus fought the Grimm there was one such battle taking place between a single Hunstman and Grimm.
A top a collapsed bridge that overlooked a chasm a lone human stood, aura shattered, clothes dirty and ripped with a body that hurt like hell. He stood with his sword Beira in hand as he rushed at the scorpion Grimm in front of him, and with a roar filled with fury he brought it down on the Deathstalker armored shell.
The Deathstalker roared, both out of anger and worry.
A human who had it's aura shattered still had the gall to challenge it, and despite being a primitive being created from the negative emotions of this worlds inhabitants it had enough sense from being alive for such a long time, to see that this human was strong. In both body and mind.
Meanwhile on the other side of the bridge...
"SOAP!" cried Jaune as he saw the Deathstalker slam it's pincers into his friend sending him flying back toward the head of the bridge.
They heard the telltale sound of aura being shattered as they watched their friend disappear into the dust and debris.
"We have to get to him," said Pyrrha quickly, "if his aura's been shattered he won't last long."
Her words brought looks of dread among the faces of the students. Blake in particular looked and felt terrible, she was beside herself with worry and was in the of following the other four to head over and help Soap.
But a large screech caught her attention as she saw her partner Yang hanging on the flying Nevermore as she fired shotgun shells into it's open beak, holding onto dear life as she punched it's face left and right before loading multiple shells in the Grimms open maw. Ruby and Weiss supported her by firing at the Grimm from the ground.
Ruby with her Crescent Rose and Weiss with Myrtanestar, one shooting sniper rounda and the other a plethora of different kinds of dust.
Jaune too noticed Ruby and the others fighting the Nevermore, and then he saw a conflicted look on Blakes face. Deciding to speak up Jaune cleared his throat before adressing Blake.
"Blake," the girl turned to look at Jaune, who took a breath before speaking, "You should go and help your partner, they might need more than three people to bring down a Nevermore of that size."
Blake frowned but before she could rebuke what Jaune was saying, Pyrrha spoke up in support of her partner, "He's right. The four of us can head over to help Soap, you should go and support your patner."
"But..." she started but stopped upon hearing the sounds of the battle with the Nevermore seemingly getting more intense, she stopped before nodding.
Turning around she said one last thing before running to help Yang and the others, "Please, save Soap." and with that she took off to assist the others.
The sounds of metal clanging against something solid caught the attention of the Jaune, Pyrrha, Nora and Ren as they looked toward the otherside of the collapsed bridge.
"I-is he still trying to fight of that Grimm?" asked Jaune in shock.
"Seems like it," agreed Ren, "though since his aura is shattered he might not last long."
"The fact that he's still able to stand even after having his aura shattered is admirable, really." added respect for the blue eyed boy growing.
She hoped that they could have a chance to talk properly, following their less than steller first meeting, so she could get to know him better. Anyone who would risk their own life to save another was someone who Pyrrha could say with certainty that she would like to have a decent if not close relationship with.
"Shattered aura or not, we have to find a way over to help him." said Jaune as he tightened his grip on the hilt of Crocea Mors, the others nodded as they devised a plan to get across.
A plan that caused Nora to grin in atticipation as she proudly hefted Magnhild onto her shoulder.
Meanwhile with Soap...
CLANG!
CLANG!
CLANG!
The sound of metal sounded as Soap did his best to dodge and weave through the Deathstalkers attacks as it swung it's large black armored pincers in front of it, in an effort to swat him over the bridge.
Blood dripped from the side of his face and down his mouth, his ribs ached and groaned from the overusage of his body as he avoided a tail strike from the Deathstalker, rolling to a stop with his head dangling over the side of the bridge. With a grunt he rolled into a crouch as he roared and swung Beira toward the oprn Deathstalker face, effectively slicing two of it's left eyes.
It roared in pain, swinging it's appendages around wildly. Soap grinned smugly as he stood in front of the wailing Deathstalker, Beira in hand.
"Aw, my bad cunt. Did I hurt ya?" the Deathstalker stopped it's flailing as it turned slowly to look at Soap.
At that point Soap didn't give two bleeding fucks about the death stare the Grimm was giving him. His ribs ached as the already broken bones continued to creak in protest but due to the adrenaline in his body and the anger clouding his mind, he barely felt the telltale signs of a battered and bleeding body.
"Come on then ya mangy cunt! Our lil' dance ain't over yet." Soap rushed at the Deathstalker once more.
It was at that point where the old Grimm did something it never thought it would do. It took a step back.
This human was just too much, it could see that it's body was weak and failing him due to it's over exertion. But yet it continued to fo fight, that alone caused the Grimm to feel fearful.
Beira scrapped againts the stone as Soap dragged it behind him, causing sparks to flare up from behind. With a roar he brought Beira over his head as he prepared to strike down the already fearful Grimm.
But suddenly his body stopped mid swing.
"Oh, bloody 'ell..." he drawled as he coughed a up a large blob of blood as he faceplanted the hard stone, unconcious.
Everything was silent as the Deathstalker stared dumbfounded at the Scottsmans unconcious and bleeding body. It used it's stinger to poke Soaps unmoving form, checking to see if this was one of the crazy human's ploys to lure it closer for the kill. Even with it's stinger pressed againt the humans body, it didn't move an inche nor uttered a sound.
The Deathstalker growled slightly before roaring, rearing up it's stinger to strike down the human. Whether it was dead or not it wasn't going to take any chances, the sooner it killed this human, the sooner it could end the fear and weariness it was feeling.
It's golden stinger came flying down, it's tip glimting to hint it's sharpness and it's size being enough indictaion of the weight and force behind it. But right before it could strike the half dead Scottsman a whirring sound caused the Grimm to turn only for it's stinger to be swatted away by a round bronze sheild. Before it could react the sound of an explosion caused it to turn around once more only to be met with a large grey hammer coming toward the side if it's face, followed by a ginger haired girl with a maddening grin. Though her eyes were stormy and clouded in contrast to her grinning face.
"PEEK A BOO!" Nora yelled as she slammed the Deathstalkers face with enough force to cause the Grimm to twirl into a full 360.
"Ren! Grab him," commanded Jaune as Ren rushed in and pulled Soap away from getting trampled by the disoriented Deathstalker.
"Got him!" said Ren as he carried the Scottsman over his shoulder a safe distance away.
Pyrrha followed up from Nora's surprise attack by attacking the Deathstalkers legs with her spear Milo, striking at the joints between it's legs to cause it to fall. And the Deathstalker who felt the pain from having it's joints stabbed at, swung one of it's pincers at Pyrrha.
Pyrrha paused upon seeing the oncoming attack but before she could bring up Akouo to block it, Jaune appeared in front of her with his sheild raised stopping the attack, but stumbling back slightly from the force. Pyrrha pushed Jaune's falling back with Akouo, pushing him back to his feet as he turned and gave a grateful nod to Pyrrha who smiled in return.
The Grimm took the opportunity to give itself some distance from it's two opponents, using it's back legs to jump back slightly as it glared at them hatefully.
"Don't forget me!" shouted Nora as she came running at the Deathstalker once more, her hammer raised as she tried to bring it down on the Deathstalker.
With a roar the Deathstalker caught the ginger haired girls hammer mid swing and chucked her over the side of the bridge.
"Nora!" shouted Jaune as they saw her flailing form fly over them and toward the chasm below.
Thinking fast Nora used the grenade launcher mechanism at the head of the hammer to launch a shot behind her, propelling herself back in a cartwheel motion towards the battle. All the while she had an excited battle hungry grim on her face. Using the handle of her hammer she stabbed it into the ground to cease her momentum and rolled to a stop besides Pyrrha and Jaune, the three looked towards the Deathstalker as it's roared in anger.
Just then Ren ran up from behind to join the three as they faced off against the Deathstalker.
"Is Soap okay?" asked Jaune in concern as he turned slightly to look at the black haired boy.
Ren nodded at pointed toward the ruins where an unconciuous Soap lay with his back against a pillar, hidden slightly by vines and fallen rocks, "I placed him against a pillar, so he should be fine. He's far enough away from the Emerald Forest for stray Grimm to not see him and close enough for us to grab him, but that means it's the same for the Deathstalker."
"How're his injuries?" followed up Pyrrha as she turned to address Ren.
Ren's poker face remained strong but Pyrrha could tell from the way his jaw was tensed that it wasn't good.
"He's not doing okay." replied Ren in a grim tone, "He has three broken ribs and two bruised ones, and I'm pretty sure one of them is stabbing against his lungs from the way he was struggling to breath when I picked him up. And I can only assume he has internal bleeding as well..."
Jaune's eyes widened upon hearing the state his friends was in, as Pyrrha cringed from the description of his injuries. The two seemed to be thinking of the worst, until Nora spoke up.
"I'm sure he'll be fine," said Nora suddenly, the others turned to look at her, "When I met him earlier he seemed really strong to me and besides he lasted this long without an aura. Soap's a cool and strong guy, so there's no way some Deathstalker's gonna outdo him just like that."
She said it with the utmost confidence. She truly believed her friend would be okay and her infectious optimism managed to blow away the doubt within Ren, Jaune and Pyrrha.
"She's right," agreed Pyrrha, "he was strong enough to last this long in initiation, so all we have to do is take out that Deathstalker and clear a path to bring to bring him to safety."
The others nodded in agreement as they readied their weapons. Each of them had a look of determination on their faces, they all had a special reason for wanting to save their Scottish friend.
Jaune, because he was the first person outside of his family to treat him as a friend and as an equal. Despite not knowing him that well, Jaune knew that he was a good person and his actions leading up to thsi point were nothing short of heroic. He would never forgive himself if he let a friend like Soap perish.
Ren, though never having spoke with the Scottsman directly, owed him. He'd heard Nora talking about how she'd made a friend whilst he was showering, and he didn't believe her fully at first (mostly because she said his 'name' was Soap and coincidently they were in a bathroom) but then he saw him in action when they were recovering the relics. And though the two never actually spoke, he didn't hesitate to push both him and the other girl Blake to safety whilst he was left to fend for himself. Ren wouldn't let a good person like that die.
Nora, who wanted to take the Scottsman out to eat pancakes together in Vale with Ren and maybe the other two, Jaune and Pyrrha. That was one of her main motivaters, and also the fact that he didn't fully ignore her the first time they met. Nora herself wasn't oblivious to the way people looked at her, thinking she was 'too energetic' or 'weirdly happy' and she would usualy ignore them. But Soap actually took the time to talk to her, and he seemed to enjoy it even saying they'd meet up at initiation. So she'd help save him and then her, him and Ren can get get pancakes together!
Pyrrha... didn't know what to feel about Soap. They had a pretty rough first meeting and they barely talked since, but from what Jaune had told her about him, he seemed to be a good person. Her thoughts on him being good were further solidified by the fact that he saved the girl, Ruby from the Deathstalker as well as both the other two Ren and Blake at the cost of his own safety. So she'd help get him to safety and hopefully... hopefully they could start over.
With renewed vigor in their bodies and determination in their spirits the four students readied themselves for the clash against the Deathstalker.
The Grimm responded by roaring in anger, it's golden tipped tail raised high and it's pincers spread out like eagle wings on either side of it as it rose to it's full height. Ready and raring for a fight.
The battle kicked off as Pyrrha transformed Akouo into it's rifle form and began pelting the Grimm with carefully placed shots. Ren whipped out his weapon Storm Flower and joined Pyrrha, opting to spary all over to exploit any gaps he might see.
The Deathstalker responded by charging at them, putting it's pincers in front of it's face in an effort to stop the rain of bullets from hitting it's eyes. Nora too joined in using the grenade launcher from Magnhild to launch bright pink explosions at the Grimm, causing the Deathsatlker even more pain and distress.
"Pyrrha! Ren! Get back behind Nora. Nora, keep blasting at the gap between it's pincers!" shouted Jaune as he tightened his grip on his shield.
The two nodded as they turned and ran to stand behind Nora, making sure to reload their used bullets. Nora continued to fire the pink explosions at the approaching Grimm, who ran faster as it approached, getting even angrier at the constant explosions going off on it's body.
Jaune looked at the barelling Grimm as he readied his sheild and turned to look at Pyrrha.
"Pyrrha! When the Grimm gets close enough use your shield to trip it, me and Ren will take care of the rest." Pyrrha nodded in response as did Ren.
The two weren't sure what Jaune was planning but they decided to put their trust in him. Nora stopped firing as she leaped backwards as soon as the Grimm was close enough, and with a shout Pyrrha tossed Milo low towards the ground straight at the Deathstalkers legs. Using her Semblence she further propelled the shield with even more force.
The Grimm roared in surprise and pain as it felt it's front legs getting hit with something, causing it to tumble forward. Milo rebounded from the hit and flew back to Pyrrha who used her Semblence, Polarity to catch it.
They watched as the the Grimm slid face first along the stone towards them.
"Ren, while it's down you try and take out it's eyes!" commanded Jaune, to which Ren responded with a nod as he spun Storm Flower in his hands as he unloaded both clips into the Deathstalkers face.
"Pyrrha, help Ren!" shouted Jaune as the red haired girl transformed Akouo into it's rifle form and joined the black haired boy.
"Nora, me and you are gonna keep this guy pinned!" said Jaune as Nora grinned readily.
"Sure thing leader!" responded Nora as the two rushed to either side of the fallen Deathstalker, who had already come to a stop and was currently digging it's pincers into the hard stone below it in an effort to push itself upright. It's roared as it waved it's face from side to side in an effort to protect it's eyes from the rain of bullets.
Before the Deathstalker could fully right itself Nora came running from it's left and with a shout she slammed Magnhild against one of the pincers it was using to push itself up, and with a roar it fell back down. Jaune then appeared from behind it's right side using his sword to hack away at the joints of it's four black bony legs, further crippling it's ability to move.
'I-it's working!' sighed Jaune internally, 'I may not be the best at fighting but the least I can do is keep it from getting back up until we can figure out a definitive way to kill the Deathstalker.'
While Jaune and Nora worked together to keep the Deathstalker fromb getting up, Ren and Pyrrha did their best to block the Deathstalker from advancing since it had to sheild it's eyes from their constant firing.
Ren moved closer as he fired at the Deathstalkers head as the bullets skimmed over it's plated back, firing at the base of it's tail and hitting the stinger. Not noticing the way the golden stinger saggged slightly from being fired at.
Standing close to the Deathstalker, Jaune could hear it screeech in pain. Indicating that they must have hit it's weakpoint somewhere, Jaune stopped attacking as he scanned the scorpion Grimms armored bone plated body, checking fo something to exploit. His eyes caught the slightly wobbly form of the Deathstalkers stinger and noticed how it was loosely connected.
"Pyrrha!" the red haired girl turned to look at Jaune, "The tail. Hit the tail!"
Pyrrha looked at where Jaune was pointing and immediatly noticed the loose appendage. Without wasting anytime, she brought up Milo and immediatly threw it like a frisbee straight at the Deathstalkers golden tipped tail. The Deathstalker saw the flying sheild but wasn't able to move because of the three consecutive attacks happening in sync around it.
Everytime it tried to use it's pincers to stand they would immediatly get knocked from beneath him by the grinning girl with a hammer, and likewise the grils friends ran circles behind it, jabbing their sword at the joint in it's legs unbalancing it even further and that was not including the most annoting one that kept firing at it's eyes.
The Deathstalker thought that the crazy human would be the one to end it... it was wrong to underestimate the rest of the humans friends. Milo cut through the lose flesh that the golden tipped tail was attached to as the tip fell right on the Deathstalkers head.
"Nora! Hit it!" shouted Jaune.
Nora responded by leaping into the air and using the explosions from Magnhild to boost her strike as she brought her hammer down on the stinger. The Deathstalker let out one last weak roar before it's stinger broke through it's armor stabbing it's brain and killing it.
Before Jaune could celebrate he notcied too late one of the Deathstalkers slowly disintegrating pincers coming straight towards him. A good chunk of it still solid. Time seemed to slow down as he heards the cries of the others as he quickly raised his sheild as he felt the appendage connect with him. He flet the air leave his lungs as gravity seemed to take hold as he felt completely weightless as he flew over the side of the bridge.
Jaune's eyes widened as a thought occured to him. He was going to die. He heard a cry from a distance.
"Roach...!" Jaune couldn't tell what it was or who said it.
Suddenly a force yanked at the top of his hoodie, stopping him from falling. Jaune was scared straight as he stared at the empty chasm below before he heard a familiar voice above him.
"J-J-Jaune, y-ya okay mate?" grunted Soap as he lay on the stone bridge, gripping the back of Jaunes hoodie.
"S-Soap...?" muttered Jaune in disbelief.
"H-ha ha, tha' one an' only..." chuckled the Scottsman as coughed some blood to the side before pulling Jaune up.
Soap struggled to pull Jaune, but on account of his injuries he would be forgiven for droppinng Jaune as it was taking a lot out of him to just keep him from falling. He heard footsetps behind him and craned his neck to see the girl Pyrrha running toward them, worry evident on her beautiful face. Soap saw a familiar mop of orange hair following close behind Pyrrha and a similar looking mop of black hair with a magenta streak in the front beside it.
Soap grinned as he turned back to look down at Jaune.
"Backups 'ere. You'll be up an' on your feet in no time." reassured Soap as he made sure to tighten his grip on the blondes hoodie.
"Okay, just to be sure... please don't drop me." Jaune said worriedly as he looked back down.
Soap rolled his eyes at the blondes worrisome attitude, "Relax, jus' cause I've got a few broken ribs doesn't mean I can't keep a scrwany blonde from fallin' off a bridge."
"I'm just glad we're both okay," said Jaune sighing in relief, to which Soap couldn't help but nod in agreement.
"Aye," agreed Soap before he felt a pair of hands on him.
Turning to see who it was, Soap turned suddenly and ended up nearly nose to nose with a surprised and blushing Pyrrha.
"Eeep!" she squeaked as she was caught off guard, having thought Soap was unconcious or too weak too move.
"Sorry fer' surprisin' ya," apologised Soap through gritted teeth as he felt the pain in his ribs make another reappearence due to how fast he turned to face Pyrrha, "But could ya help me lift Jaune up before me hand slips?"
"R-right. Nora, Ren help... um Soap, I'll grab Jaune." stuttered Pyrrha as the other two appraoched Soap.
Nora had a huge grin on her face as she approached Soap to pick him up as Pyrrha switched places with Soap to grab Jaune and pull him up as Ren helped support Soap to keep him from falling. Soap grunted as Ren and Nora placed the Scottsmans hands over their shoulders.
"Jayzus, it 'urts jus' ta move!" winced Soap.
"We should get you to the infirmary quickly cause it might take a while for your aura to heal you completely." said Ren.
"Yeah! Fighting a Deathstalker without any aura must've been cool!" added Nora, to which the gathered teens responded by giving her a deadpan look.
Soap merely chuckled at the Nora's remark. Pyrrha too decided to voice some things that were on her mind since the topic was brought up.
"She's right you know. Most people wouldn't be able to last long against Ursai and Beowolves without an aura, but fending off a Deathstalker as long as you did must've been hard." said Pyrrha with Jaune nodding in agreement beside her.
Soap shrugged, (which caused him to wince slightly) "Eh, I've fought without aura before."
His statement caused the others to pause. Jaune blinked in surprise before addressing Soap.
"Y-you've fought without aura before?"
Soap decided to at least tell them about his aura being unlocked a few weeks prior. He was semi concious during their battle against the Deathstalker and saw how they fought to save him and defeat the Grimm, so he could at least trusted them enough to reply honestly. Anyone who'd go out of their way to save someone whom they didn't know personally from a giant monster was alright in his book.
"Aye. I acutally recently got me aura unlocke't not too long ago." answered Soap honestly.
"Wow!" said Nora in awe, "So you've been kicking Grimm butts before you got an aura?"
"Ah... more or less, yeah..." replied Soap somewhat hesitently.
This went unnoticed by both Jaune and Nora, but their partners noticed his hesitance and somewhat vague answer. They decided to leave it be since it wasn't their place to ask.
Just then they heard a large crash coming from the otherside of the bridge followed by a painful cry from the Nevermore.
"Wait, are Ruby and tha' others fightin' tha' Nevermore?" asked Soap in surprise.
"I-it would seem so." answered Pyrrha.
"Whoa look at what they're doing!" cried out Nora in excitement as she pointed to the base of the cliff where the Neveremore had it's back pinned against as a small red and black figure stood against the side of the cliff like, some sort of Spider-Person.
"Is tha' Ruby?" questioned Soap with wide eyes.
Ruby then proceeded to run up against the steep side of the cliff with Crescent Rose's blade against the Nevermore's neck as she dragged the avian Grimm with her, lauching sniper shots behind her to increase her speed.
The others stared in awe at the sight as Soap's jaw was practically touching the ground at this point.
'Holy fuck... t-that is FUCKIN' AWESOME!" Soap cheered internally.
Upon reaching the top of the cliff Ruby pulled her scyth upward, decapitating the Nevermore in one swiff movement before landing perfectly on the top of the cliff. Her red and black cape billowing in the wind as Crimson Rose lay intimidatingly over her small shoulder.
There were a lot of things Soap has seen that would classify as 'cool', but seeing a petite girl dressed as a Little Red Riding Hood weilding a giant transforming scyth that is also a sniper run up the side of the cliff like Spider-Man, while also dragging an enormous bird montser as well, has certainly taken the cake as the coolest thing he'd seen in his life so far.
"D-damn... t-t-tha'... waz..." slurred Soap as his eyes began to droop slightly as his body began to weigh down on on both Ren and Nora, spurring the two to look at him in concern.
"Hey, are you okay." asked Ren as Nora looked at Soap in concern.
"Yeah... yeah... jus' gonna-" Soap promptly passed out once again.
Meanwhile at the top of the cliff...
Ozpin smiled as he looked at the screen showing the two seperate groups who took on both a Nevermore and Deathstalker, both of which seemed to be both old and strong in their own right.
"This years students really are exceptional this year." mused Ozpin as he looked at the screen showing four girls in particular, "They show great promise, some need guidance, while other are just diamonds in the rough just waiting to be polished." The last sentence was said as he looked at the screen showing Jaune, Nora, Pyrrha and Ren as they gathered worriedly around an unconcious Soap. Ozpin's eyes focusing on Jaune.
"After what you've displayed today Mister Mactavish, I can say with certainty that Remnant is truly lucky to have you. I do hope that wherever you came from does not hold you back from where you need to go." Ozpin said sagely before taking a much needed sip from his mug. "Best tell Professor Oobleck to watch over Mister Mactivish when they take him to the infirmary, and hopefully he'll wake up in time for the formation of the teams.
In Beacons infirmary approximately 30 minutes after the end of Initiation...
In Beacons infirmary, a mainly white colored room with a plethora of hospital beds lined up against both sides of the room and a large covered window, lay a single figure on one of the beds on the left hand side of the room at the very end which lay beside the open window.
The pre afternoon rays from the sun shone through, hitting the face of the unconcious person. To which they responded by silently cursing as their face scrunched up in an effort to dull the light from their eyes.
"Bloody. Fuckin'. 'Ell..." muttered Soap in annoyance as he turned his face farther away from the afternoon sunlight.
He turned over away from the window as he tucked his hands under his head like a pillow as he turned his whole body away from the sun, and he stayed like that for a good 20 seconds before his eyes opened suddenly and he bolted upright in bed.
"Tha' Initiation...!" he gasped before cringing slightly from pain.
Soap looked around to see that he was once again in the very same infirmary where he had first met Ozpin, after his sudden appearence in the Emerald Forest. Upon looking at himself he saw that he was shirtless as his inner shirt and trench coat were folded neatly and placed on a chair beside his bed. Studying his body Soap noticed that despite an aching, numbing feeling he had over his body from sleeping in the same position for too long, he was otherwise okay.
'Christ, aura really is pretty' damn useful.' praised Soap as he began to stretch his numb muscles.
"Bu' what about tha' Initiation then...?" pondered Soap before he heard the sound of approaching footsteps.
He turned toward the doorway, where the footsteps were coming from. And in an otherwise empty room with a squeaky clean interior and polished tiles the echo made it easy to know when someone was coming. Emerging from the doorway was someone Soap had seen and/or spoken to on occasion, one of Beacons teachers Bartholomew Oobleck.
He was a rather thinly built man with a wild bush of green hair that often reminded Soap of a shrub that hadn't been maintained for a week, he wore glasses that had a rather milky tint that made it difficult for Soap to see the proffesors eyes. Only ever catching glimpses of his light brown eyes whenever he turned or adjusted his glasses, which only confused Soap about the use of his tinted reading glasses and whether they were even used for reading, helping him see or was just an accesory choice.
He appeared disheveled, which Soap learned was his default look, his white shirt partially tucked into his green pants with the shirts collars raised slightly showing a yellow tie wrapped below the raised collar and a pair of mismatched shoes; one black and the other brown.
"Ah, Mister Mactavish glad to see you're up and ready." he said speedily.
This was another thing that Soap found strange since the man talked quick, really quick. Almost as if he takes one large breath of air to deliver multiple sentences and phrases at top speed to get the information across as fast as possible. At first Soap thought this was maybe sort of speech impediment of sorts, until he saw the professor drinking 18 cups of coffee in the span of 3 hours... which led Soap to believe he was just very hyperactive from the large ammounts of coffee he must ingest daily.
"A-aye," nodded Soap, "Wha' happened ta' me? All I remeber is seein' Ruby drag a Nevermore up a cliff an' then slice it's head off."
"Oh. Well according to the students that brought you here, they said that your aura was shattered when fighting with a Deathstalker to which you sustained severe injuries, which were apparently made worse when you still fought against the Deathstalker. And although Port would support such feats since not many Huntsmen could do what you did, that does not excuse you from almost killing yourself." explained Oobleck while slightly beratting Soap a bit at the end.
Soap nodded slowly, "So where is everyone else?"
"They're all gathered in the auditorium for the formation of teams, which is where you should be heading right now as per Proffesor Ozpins instructions." answered Oobleck as he handed Soap his inner shirt and trench coat.
"Does tha' mean I passed the Initiation?" asked Soap as he slipped into his shirt.
Since he passed out before making it to the top and since he fought a pretty rough battle with a Deathstalker, he had no clue where his Relic was or rather if he still had it on his person when they brought him to the medical ward.
"Oh, of course you did. And with flying colors might I add." congratulated Oobleck, to which Soap sighed in relief upon hearing.
"Tha's good ta' hear," said Soap as he wore on his trench coat and kicked his legs off the bed as he grabbed his shoes that were placed on the floor and began to put them on.
"Well, now that I know that you are well and good I shall be heading out." announced Oobleck as he began to walk away.
"Yer' not goin' ta' see the team formations?" asked Soap, to which Oobleck repied by saying.
"History isn't going to ready itself!" as he promptly blitzed away.
Soap stared at the direction in which the good proffesor disappeared off to before shaking his head and heading out as well. Leaving behind the medical ward Soap began to make his way towards the auditorium, maintaining a brisk but fast speed as he walked quickly. He was still unsure about the whole team situation and whether he would be assigned one or not.
Oobleck had atleast confirmed that he had passed the initiation, despite having no memory of the fight afterwards. But he was still unsure about the teams but decided to make it and see what Ozpin would do in regards to him.
Soap eventually made it to where the teams were being made and he walked in right when the third last team of the day was being called by Ozpin. Ozpin saw Soap standing at the entrance and ever so slightly motioned for him to approach.
Seeing that he apparently had the go ahead to continue he walked over and stood by a pillar where he wouldn't be seen. Not because he wanted to hide from his friends, but moreso he wanted to see how Ozpin would deal with him afterwards, since Oobleck never specified whether he'd be on a team or not and he'd rather not stick out as the only person that passed the initiation, but didn't get placed on a team.
"Russel Thrush, Cardin Winchester, Dove Brawnswing and Sky Lark." said Ozpin as a set of large screens behind him showed the pictures of the four boys whose names were called, "The four of you retrieved the black Bishop pieces and therefore you shall work together as team CRDL, led by Cardin Winchester."
A round of applause followed after the team CRDL's leader was announced and just one look at the tall, bulky brown haired leader and Soap could tell he was a real asshole. His smug grin said it all, which was one reason why he didn't bother clapping.
'I get the feelin' I ain't gonna like this guy,' muttered Soap internally, and how right he was.
Dismissing the newly established team, Ozpin then proceeded to call out the names of the next people. All of which Soap knew.
"Jaune Arc, Lie Ren, Pyrrha Nikos and Nora Valkyrie," Soap saw all four of his friends take to the stage, all with varying looks of nervousness, excitement, professionalism and a straight poker face. "The four of you retrieved the white Rook pieces, and from this day forward you will work together as team JNPR..."
Soap chuckled as he saw an esthatic Nora jump onto Ren, pulling him into a hug. But Ozpins next words caused Soap to get a big grin on his face upon hearing them.
"... led by Jaune Arc."
Jaune's eyes widened in disbelief as he fumbled for words to say, "H-huh?! M-m-my, my...!"
Ozpin simply nodded, "Congratulations young man."
Pyrrha, who was happy for Jaune playfully punched the teens arm, which in turn caused him to fly back slightly due to the force. To which resulted in the auditorium to begin laughing slightly to which the newly formed JNPR heard a loud whistle, one which Nora recognized and they turned to see a grinning Soap who was clapping his hands.
The four teens eyes brightened upon seeing their friend okay and not injured, Jaune especially when he saw the Scottsman give the blonde a thumbs up as they went off stage.
"And next we have Blake Belladonna, Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee and Yang Xiao Long." announced Ozpin as Soap saw his other friends take to the stage, not knowing that Soap was there."The four of you recieved the white Knight pieces and from this day forward you will work together as team RWBY, led by Ruby Rose."
Ruby's eyes widened upon hearing that as Yang embraced her sister in a hug, to which Blake only smiled as Weiss had a conflicted look on her face. Ozpin smiled slightly before clearing his throat and addressing the gathered students again.
"This is the last team of the day, but there is something to which I'd like to address." began Ozpin, which caused the gathered students and team RWBY to stare at the headmaster curiously, "John Mactavish, if you'd please make your way here."
Ruby and the rest were surprised to hear what Ozpin said, since the last they saw of him, Soap was really badly injured and needed to go to the infirmary immediately. Racked with worry, Ruby, Yang and Blake were eager to hear news on Soaps condition after the teams were made, but it seemed like they didn't need to wait long.
Soap's eye twitched as Ozpin had quite literally put him on the spot and seeing that he didn't have a choice, began to make his way toward the stage. Upon making it to the top he was greeted to the happy smiles of both Ruby and Yang, to which Soap returned. And strangely enough the girl Blake was smiling at him as well, though Soap didn't notice the relief evident in her eyes. Weiss however was looking just as nonchalant as usual, looking as if she wasn't interested in the Scottsman whatsoever and it would've been believeable if it weren't for her slight glances at him.
Ozpin nodded for Soap to approach him, "Now, under normal circumstances I would not have let you join since the number of teams made were exact. Even if you managed to bring a relic back." stated Ozpin.
"But after seeing how you performed and thinking it over, I say that you have earned your spot in Beacon." this got response from both JNPR and RWBY, who were cheering for Soap, who remained stoic.
Ozpin then pressed a remote on his scroll as the screens behind him began to play footage of Soap's battle with the Deathstalker, as well as his saving of Blake and Ren when the Nevermore broke apart the bridge. The gathered students watched, some with awe filled eyes and some with dumbfounded and fearful looks as they saw Soap, who clearly had his aura shattered, begin to go toe to toe with the Deathstalker and held his own far longer than any normal person could.
Ruby was among those that watched the fight with awe filled eyes, a slight blush on her face as she saw Soap stare down the Deathstalker with Beira which made him look really handsome and heroic to her. Yang grinned as she nodded and hollered in approval, her respect (and attraction) for the Scottsman growing more.
Blake too felt her respect for Soap grow, even moreso when she watched how Soap pushed both her and Ren to safety. She decided that she would try and pay Soap back for saving her and hopefully get to know him better.
Weiss however, was completely dumbfounded. She had never seen anyone get back up after having their aura shattered, much less fight a Grimm while also being injured. Although she didn't like Soap at first, she couldn't deny that he really was strong. She respected him for his strength, but that didn't mean that she liked him. She would see whether Soap was really who he says he is, of whether he was simply acting since the Schnee heiress rarely trusted manny people, and now she would have to learn to be on a team led by, a child.
"Due to the feats and strength you have shown," continued Ozpin, "going as far as you have to save your fellow students are truly the qualities of a Huntsman, and nothing short of heroic."
"Jus' doin' the right thing, sir." Soap replied stoicly, to which Ozpin nodded with a smile.
"And therefore you shall be an exception, possibly one of the very few in the history of Beacon as a whole. To which you shall be placed in a team as a fifth member, as well as something of an auxillary force of sorts where you are free to aid other teams in missions as well. Though you will be the sole member of a single team, so this is where you decide which team you will be spending your time in Beacon with."
Ozpin paused as he waited for Soap to answer.
'Wait? He's lettin' me pick a team?! I thought tha' whole rule fer' four man teams was mandatory an' that there'd be now way ta' change it,' pondered Soap, 'Unless Ozpin 'ere bended tha' rules fer' me to get into Beacon, either tha' or it might really be a rare occurance since he said I was among tha' few in Beacons history ta' 'ave a similar occurence happen.'
Soap began to scan the crowd of students, all standing in their assembled teams. He didn't recognize a single face in the crowd, until his eyes landed on two teams in particular. Teams RWBY and JNPR.
Both teams seemed to be waiting for Soap's answer, both hoping to be the one to be picked. Soap looked between both teams seeing the hopeful looks on both Ruby and Jaunes faces.
Soap stood still for a minute with his eyes closed, deciding. Ozpin waited patiently for his answer along with the gathered students and RWBY and JNPR. Upon opeing his eyes Soap turned to Ozpin and gave his answer.
"Sir, I think'll 'ave ta' go with team RWBY."
There was an audible "YESSS" from where team RWBY was as Soap chuckled goodnaturedly upon seeing the smiling and beaming face of Ruby alongside an equally hyped Yang. There were a collective cry from some of the male audience, jealous that he chose a team consisting of four beautiful girls. It was the same for the some of the female audience since Soap himself was very handsome and most of the grils felt jealous of the females of team RWBY getting to be with someone as badass and good looking as Soap.
"Good. So from now on team RWBY shall be called team RW(M)BY (A/N: Will still be written as RWBY since the M will be somewhat invisible, but Soap is still part of the team) and I wish you all the best of luck Mister Mactavish." finished Ozpin as Soap was then embraced by his friends from both RWBY and JNPR.
Ozpin watched with a small smile as Ruby and Nora hugged Soap out of relief and to see if he was alright, followed by Yang giving him a playful punch on the shoulder and Jaune giving the Scottsman a high five.
"Looks like thing are shaping up to be... an interesting year." said Ozpin cryptically.
And done! XD
This was a really fun chapter to write and I'm glad I finally ended the whole initiation arc so we can finally get into expanding the plot, as well as the relationships.
Fair warning though, I might include more sexual scenes later on as well as a few filler story lines that may or may not progress the story as a whole, but it will make for some entertaining adventures before the whole fall of Beacon happens. So just expect some rather intersting content after this.
Also I wanna thank Spector Bros and na,misfit, fox for helping me with figuring out the future on where the story'll be headed, really appreciate the support you two. And if you wanna give ideas and or suggestion join the discord, link in bio.
With that said, thanks for reading and please leave a review. All comments are appreciated. Take care ya'll :)
