Izuku was frozen in anxiety as he stood outside of the gigantic door; He had figured making it in was a fluke for him as he adjusted the rather flat looking short tie. "I-I'll bet that the moment I walk through this door, they'll realise that I'm a fraud and kick me out…As if I'd be so lucky t-"
"Y'Know…Doors are meant to be opened, right Izuku?" Sai joked as he was on his way in too when he saw Izuku's mumbling; He was currently wearing the uniform but his tie was skinnier than usual and hung loosely around his neck since he had the top button undone to let his throat breathe.
"Sai! Sorry, I just…Still can't believe that I made it in, that's all." Izuku apologised as he felt embarrassed that someone heard him talking to himself. "That and this place is kind of…intimidating."
"It's the first day of UA, it's only fair we're all a little nervous…We worked hard to get in and here we are." Sai pointed out as the slight sweat on his cheek indicated that the nerves were getting to him too. "Plus, it's not like you're the only one going through it…I'm gonna bet that most people in there are equally as nervous to do what we're doing." He mentioned as he decided to open up, though was quickly proven wrong by the loud ruckus inside.
"AS A STUDENT OF UA, GET YOUR DIRTY FEET OFF OF THE DESK THAT NUMBERS OF ALUMNI STUDIED AT!" A rather uptight looking student was shouting at Bakugo to sit up straight.
The Explosive boy grumbled and did his best to ignore him as he kept getting pestered; "Look Specs, you can either get out of my face or you can get acquainted with the window that I throw you out of if you don't stop buggin' me!"
"How dare you?! I am your classmate and I demand you to show respect to your fellow students like they would expect from you too!" The glasses wearing boy chopped the air as he was shocked at Bakugo's audacity but then had his thoughts change when he saw Sai and Izuku wandering in; "You two!"
"Who're you?" Sai asked as he saw Iida's robotic marching over to the pair; "Look, if you're trying to get Blasty-Britches to act all polite, you're wasting breath…I've seen teachers try and fail all the time." He remarked and then gave Bakugo a middle finger when the topic of conversation "greeted him" with an irritated scowl and a one fingered salute.
"I see…Well, despite how arduous as it may be; I will ensure everyone here acts accordingly to become the next generation of Pro-Heroes. I am Tenya Iida, it is nice to meet you…And you." Iida politely introduced himself before turning to Izuku; "You are a good example of what it means to be a hero in training, back at that training simulator there was no one who rushed back to help…Not even I saw the right answer in rescuing someone in need."
Izuku nervously laughed but accepted the praise; "W-Well, I only did what I thought was right plus I can't exactly take all the credit. Sai helped too while I fought the robot…I'm Izuku Midoriya and he's Sai Yakumo."
Iida quickly turned to Sai and bowed stiffly; "Of course; Any friend of Midoriya is a welcome associate of mine! You too showed good intuition by helping where you could."
While the three boys talked in the doorway, the girls seemed to have their eyes fixed on the two new faces in their class…Well, most of them anyway. "Check out the new kids~" A pinkette grinned as she eyed up Izuku and Sai. "They're the two who earned the rescue points in the test."
"Well, it would make sense that they'd get in…The green haired kid fought off that giant robot and saved them while the other boy managed to pull the girl free, kero." A green haired girl croaked as she found herself gazing at Izuku then to Sai; "Though that just means that they're more talented than they look if they managed to get by."
"Never judging a book, Tsu…I mean the taller guy's kinda moody looking but he seems to be handling Iida okay." A punkish looking girl admitted as she twirled an earphone jack around her finger.
"And they're both pretty cute to boot! Greeny's all adorable and freckly and Meany's got the tall, smouldering look down~ Who wants to bet they've got some kind of neat things to show for it!" Toru Hagakure excitedly theorised and earned a various array of pinks among the others, or in Mina's case a fainter shade of red.
"Alright, alright…Everyone quiet down and sit down!" A tired voice called out to the class as a rather scruffy looking man climbed out of a sleeping bag and stood at the head of the class while Sai and Izuku grabbed their seats. "I'm Shota Aizawa and I'll be your homeroom teacher, you kids are among the newest batch of trainees that we've accepted in the hopes of becoming Pro-Heroes…Normally you'd be heading to the auditorium for your inductions but honestly? I'd rather we ditch the bells and whistles so get your gym gear and meet me down at the the outside training grounds."
With confusion and worry about what their new teacher had in mind; everyone had assembled with a scoreboard overhead and Aizawa holding a monitor that resembled a stopwatch; "So, you kids ever heard of a Quirk Apprehension test?"
There was a faint mumbling but Momo Yaoyorozu was the first to quote ad verbatim: "They're standardised Quirk assessments normally reserved for Pro Hero Recruits. They're meant to show where a Hero's Quirk is strong, weak or where its potential could lie."
"That's the long and short…What this will accomplish is exactly that; Being smart thinkers or throwing your Quirks around can only get you so far, this will show you where to pull up on your grades or how much you need to train and I can assure you that I'm a pretty harsh critic." Aizawa mentioned as he tossed a ball to Bakugo; "Normally at other schools; You'd be tested physically without using your Quirks but here I want you to use them however you can to get through the tests…Anyone who's caught lacking or gets the worst score will be personally escorted off of UA with an Expulsion in hand."
This brought everyone into a shocked state of panic; Some being more obvious than others. "H-Hold on a minute! We just got in to UA and passed the exams, you can't kick us out like this now!" Denki Kaminari protested as he got worried about his own scores following the Entrance Exams.
"Then you better dig deep and struggle, Hero work is a Sink or Swim place and sometimes even the the most promising talents drown or fade so hop to it! We'll start with the ball throw, you're up first." Aizawa announced as he gestured to Bakugo and watched as he got off to a literally explosive start, shooting the ball 705.2 meters away.
The group each took their shots and watched as Aizawa patiently and extensively took notes on each of them; soon enough it was Sai's turn for this rotation as he grabbed the ball and weighed it. "Alright, just a high enough intensity so that I can get it far enough without passing out…" He mentally challenged himself as the others watched the ball float out of his hands and started to spin around Sai's body with quickening speed.
"A Telekinetic? Subtle but mentally taxing if he's going to focus on it more often…I'll ask the others if they know some good pointers." Aizawa mused as he watched and noticed that he could see Sai's arms becoming more visible with the intensity growing; The ball then shot upward like a cork escaping a bottle and landed around 705.5 meters.
Bakugo sneered as he noticed that the number Aizawa held up proved that his score was still higher than h; "Tch, amateur…All that supposed brainpower and he can't even realise that I'm gonna come out on top!"
The other rounds seemed just as odd as they were testing with stuff like the side to side jumps toe touches and even the likes of sit ups. Sai seemed to show what he could excel at when it came to his Quirk; The standing long jump, The Grip Test and oddly enough the 50 Meter Dash….Although he ended up falling over when he crossed the line, it turned out that the bright idea of using his Vector arms as an extra boost for the first time may have made him faster but his balance was all over the place.
Then came the time for the last person to do the Ball Test: Midoriya who managed to get a second attempt since Aizawa stopped him from ruining his arm on the first try and giving him a lecture, though he very quickly turned people around once he managed to outdo most of everyone and landed a distance of 705.3 meters.
"Damn, Izuku…Late blooming really hit you like a truck…" Sai thought to himself as he felt a smirk creep across his face knowing that things were finally starting to look good.
"DEKU!" One particular outlier seemed to disagree as Bakugo was both shocked and angrily mortified that Izuku could even get close to his score like that. "YOU BETTER TELL ME HOW YOU DID THAT BEFORE I KILL YOU!" The Explosive boy roared out as he attempted to rush and interrogate Midoriya on his new strength. Aizawa prepared his wraps to restrain the rowdy teen but was stopped when he saw Bakugo's cheek squish inward and very faintly saw a fist imprint as the blonde staggered and hit the ground.
"Alright, I'm stopping this before it gets worse…" He mentally sighed and grabbed his eyedrops as the scene played out.
"You better not be trying what I think you're gonna try, Bakugo…Because I'm not playing around this time." Sai growled as he stared down the walking hand grenade.
"You and Deku are the same, you both cheated somehow to get in here! There's no way that crummy extras like you could get into UA with your shitty talent!" Bakugo yelled back as he figured that this was a good enough reason to pick a fight. "Maybe Deku got the pity prize but I can guess a real good reason why you got in…" He sneered as he cracked his knuckles.
"Unless the next words out of your mouth are "Hard Work and Determination" then I'm gonna hit you again!" Sai remarked as he was letting Bakugo get to him without realising it.
"It's because your mom figured that getting you into UA means that it gets you far away from her…So maybe she decided to make some "Special Rounds" on her back with the teachers to convince them to take you in." Bakugo smirked as he was feeling particularly malicious after the punch to his face.
Nearly anyone who heard it was shocked that Bakugo was willing to take that low a road, Iida started yelling at Bakugo for his insult from the crowd regarding his crudeness but even Midoriya started to get concerned; Bakugo played the parents card with Sai so many times that he was certain that the telekinetic wouldn't care anymore but this was probably the first time that he heard his childhood "friend" push it this far.
Sai on the other hand was far from willing to keep it cool when it came to Bakugo but this really pushed it further and he wasn't going to let it slide; "You know what? Forget hitting you…I'm gonna fucking BURY YOU!" He yelled out angrily as the two hovering arms around him quickly went from invisible to visible in a blink as he rushed at Bakugo.
It took Iida's Speed and Kirishima's hardening to hold the exploding Bakugo back while Aizawa used both his wraps and his Quirk Erasure on Sai to keep them apart long enough to get them both to cool off.
"Alright you two, I think I'll make this real clear on how things are gonna go here's your one and only warning…And this goes for anyone else too!" Aizawa barked to the group as he kept the grip on Sai tight; "Anyone, and I do mean ANYONE who tries to start fights in classes or at school will be answering to me but if you're caught doing it with your Quirks? You won't just be meeting with the Principal but you'll be walking out of the doors of UA for good…Am. I. Clear?" The red eyed teacher gave the very clear warning to the two boys and also to anyone else who thought about trying anything.
There was no objection from anyone considering that Aizawa would definitely be more than willing to follow through if they gave him the reason to. "Yes Sir…" They all agreed without hesitation, even the group who got in through recommendations weren't that crazy to test his patience.
"Good…" Aizawa nodded before moving down to Sai; "I'm gonna let you go now and when I do, you're gonna cool off and join the group…" He whispered to the boy before unfurling the wraps and letting him go.
Sai was undoubtedly still pissed at Bakugo for what he said but he knew that fighting him on this would make it worse so he walked back to join the others.
"And as for you." Aizawa then turned his attention to Bakugo after dripping some solution into his eyes and kept his Quirk active on Bakugo while Iida and Kirishima walked off on feeling it work on them. "I don't know what went on between you two that got you like this, but I'm not having it here…You may have been given all the attention and mollycoddling back in your old school for your Quirk but you're not getting that here! You're a UA Student so start acting like you WANT to become a damn Pro-Hero."
Bakugo growled menacingly to Aizawa but he didn't seem to argue back; "Yeah…Got it, jerk." He grumbled, it was probably the closest thing to an apology that he could give to a teacher before joining the group, however following his outburst and the stopped fight, a lot of the others seemed to give him AND Sai a wide berth with Kirishima being the one person to be close by to Bakugo.
"Now, back on to our main topic! Here's the scores that you kids were able to get on your tests." Aizawa announced after straightening himself out and pressed the monitor to bring up everyone's current rankings.
1. Momo Yaoyoruzu
2. Shoto Todoroki
3. Katsuki Bakugo
4. Tenya Iida
5. Sai Yakumo
6. Fumikage Tokoyami
7. Mezo Shoji
8. Eijiro Kirishima
9. Mina Ashido
10. Ochaco Uraraka
11. Koji Koda
12. Rikido Sato
13. Tsuyu Asui
14. Yuga Aoyama
15. Hanta Sero
16. Denki Kaminari
17. Kyoka Jiro
18. Toru Hagakure
19. Minoru Mineta
20. Izuku Midoriya
Everyone turned to look at Izuku when they remembered what Aizawa said and what would happen to the person who got last place in the rankings. "And in terms of expulsions, there will be no expulsions." Aizawa mentioned with the rather manically vacant look on his face that was probably what he thought was a smile.
"But…You said that if we failed then we'd get expelled." Mineta stammered as he was worried that he'd end up on the chopping block but he still wanted to know what was going to happen.
"It wouldn't make sense if we all got canned because we didn't make it to number 1." Sai pointed out as he managed to simmer down enough to think about it clearly. "If we all got expelled for not getting a perfect score than the Hero Course wouldn't have any students left."
Momo nodded in agreement; "He's right, if anything should mentioned is that the threat of expulsion made it impossible for any of us to perform at anything but our utmost for this particular test."
After hearing those two point out the fallacies of what Aizawa said; Mina, Kaminari and Mineta all breathed a collective sigh of relief; "Thank God…."
"Alright, so these scores are what you'll be looking to improve on as a whole, for some of you who feel like they can improve? This is a way to try getting better…At your skills or your Quirks...But for the superstars in the top bracket, this is a way to warn you that just because you're on top now doesn't mean that you'll stay that way permanently." Aizawa explained as he looked to the group to see them mulling over his words.
"But I scored 10 in the Entrance exam but I'm 5 here? Why'd I jump up that high?" Sai asked curiously as it seemed confusing that he got bumped up on the board.
"Simple, the Entrance Exam in my opinion seemed a little unfair; Sure it let all the people with power behind their Quirks thrive but those who can't punch a robot's head in." He mentioned and glanced to Midoriya; "Or explode a robot to bits." He remarked and pointedly glanced at Bakugo. "It makes it harder for those who's Quirk is either more intricate, supportive or doesn't rely on offensive capability like mine...So this test covers all bases, not just how hard you can throw." Aizawa explained to him and made it simpler for the others like Koda, Shoji or Mineta to get that it applied to them too. "Alrighty, class is over...Go change, have lunch and get ready for your next class; The Foundation for Hero Studies." He added and then dismissed the class.
