Activating the Device – Part 2
Jake gasped as he looked around, the area he was in was just dark, nothing but darkness all around him. Even thought his family, friends, his beloved Jessica had all touched him and got transported here too, something that they began to realize was Jake's mind-scape, or at least, how it looked due to the corruption of the Symbiote. He was free of it physically, but it had still left its mark on him, mentally.
"You do not want to do this." A dark voice echoed in his head.
Jake growled, realizing what this voice was. "I do, I must eradicate the Symbiotes. Especially you."
The voice chuckled. "Wrong, you don't want to do this, you don't want to be weak again...you don't-"
"I'm not weak, I overcame you. I have my friends, my allies, my family, we are all-" Jake protested.
"All weakling who are jealous of you, all of them hate that you had such power, that is why they lied to you and made you give up my power, your power." It challenged.
"No…" Jake blurted out, but he felt rather weak at that point, the shadows creeping back into his mind.
"Jake, this isn't you, you're stronger than this." A familiar voice broke through.
Jake gasped as he realized he wasn't alone here, finally he saw them, standing close by, all trying to offer support when they couldn't get any closer to him.
"You can do this Jake, you can beat this, we're here, we're your power." Jessica continued.
The words echoed around him and broke through the words of the Symbiote, sending a strange surge through Jake.
Jake hissed, trying to compose himself, control his breathing. The words echoed in his head and he could feel them, feel the emotions, the hope, they were all counting on him, his friends, his parents, Jessica.
"All lies, all useless. I am your true power, no them." The dark voice said, the Symbiote.
He could see what looked like stars surrounding him, he could feel the warmth and hope that flowed from them and saw them for what they were, the memories and experiences he had shared with everyone, all of them, urging him to not give up, to keep going. His strength returned he could feel it, he was once more ready to fight.
"You're wrong and I am going to prove it right now." He said firmly. "You see...this is real power, not what you offer."
The Symbiote laughed but then Jake focused, feeling the strength building within him as the stars began to circle him, and then they entered his body rapidly.
""RAAAAAAHHHHHH!" He roared as he felt the power building within him.
The power soon reached a crescendo and it was like a golden aura surrounded him, his suit was changing too, a layer of armor rapidly forming and turning gold as finally, it ended with him standing tall, staring down the Symbiote, brimming with new power, a super powered form of his already incredible self, now he could see it, see what everyone else saw when they looked at him and he refused to let them down again, no matter what.
"Jake..." Jessica gasped, watching. "This...he did it."
Mike smiled proudly. "Not alone, we all did it, we gave him the strength he needed."
"Not quite." Will corrected. "He had that strength inside him all along, we just helped him find it."
Jessica nodded. "Yes, that's what did it, he's doing this for us...to protect us."
Everyone watching felt sure then that the darkest moments they had endured were now behind them, a new hope was on the horizon.
As he did this their surroundings changed they noticed, the darkness completely vanished. They now stood in an amazingly beautiful and peaceful area, a wide vacant expanse of bright blue sky and white clouds with a clear floor that reflected the sky, it was rather beautiful in its own way.
"Jake…"
He turned to see the others all approaching and surrounding him, looking amazed.
"Thank you, all of you." He said warmly. "I wouldn't have done all this without you guys."
He hugged Jessica and his parents, all the others grinned and all patted his back, or squeezed his hands. Finally there was a blinding flash and, once their vision cleared they were back on the roof of Oscorp, all of them looking around and seeing that all that had happened had taken barely any time at all, at least for everyone except them. The only real change was Jake still took on that new look. Realizing what all this meant, Spider-Boy nodded to the others and as they watched, he turned and pressed the switch to activate the Anti-Symbiote Machine there was a moment as a high pitched sound gathered as the machine gathered power and then unleashed it all in a wave which, thanks to the satellite, spread throughout the whole city. The effect was immediate as they saw all the Bio-Domes crumbling and sounds of heavy shrieking echoed around the city.
After a pause, finally Mike noticed the truth and spoke quickly.
"We, we did it, the Symbiotes are all gone, as are the Upside-Down Creatures, we-" He gasped.
Will cut in. "Not everything, there's still those three but yeah, look at that."
They all did so and could see it, over in the Financial District. A brilliant flash that could only be the gate closing, which also gave them exactly where Venom and his chief minions were waiting.
"That's where we need to go." Spider-Boy said firmly.
"Right, good luck, be careful." Will said. "We'll go and help the aid stations, make sure everyone's okay."
Jessica bit her lip but then added. "Please, all of you, be careful, come back alive."
They all nodded, smiling, reassured. With those words they parted ways, the families and loved ones of the Avengers making their way down the elevator to then go on to the aid stations. Meanwhile the Avengers all headed for the Financial District.
"This is it guys, the final battle." Spider-Boy announced. "Let's do this, we're gonna make sure they don't get away this time."
The others all agreed and they quickly made their way onwards, determined to finally finish this once and for all.
