Mob Boss

Chapter Eighteen: Fixing the Problem

Tanya Denali

I was seated in the uncomfortable wooden chair by Tyler's bedside reading softly to him.

"Are the curtains closed?" Tyler asked.

I looked over to the port window beside me and it wasn't covered by the sheets we used at night.

"No." I told him

"But the bedside table light is on isn't it?" Tyler asked

I smiled "Yeah it's on. It's always on."

"I wouldn't know if it was or it wasn't anyway."

I closed the book over in my hands "But you can hear the hum of it right?"

Tyler nodded "My mum has this old light at home, it belonged to my grand dad I guess, it doesn't match any of the furniture but, she keeps it anyway."

"And what does it look like?" I asked

"It's got a copper base, with this bulb inside that looks like a tree."

"A tree?" I asked

Tyler nodded "Every Christmas she hangs an ornament inside the shade, even though no one ever see's it-" I watched him pause "I won't see Christmas lights again" he realized suddenly "I wont see anything"

I reached for his hand "Tyler, listen to me. You don't know that." I assured him "There's still hope. There is always hope."

"I gave up on hope in the water," he shivered "God that water, it was..."

I squeezed his hand "You're safe now Tyler, you made it."

"I could have died out there for nothing."

I shook my head "You didn't die for nothing. You lived for a reason, there's a reason you're still here."

Tyler frowned "I'm blind, I can't see. I'm a burden. I'm useless to everyone now."

"That's not true. Tyler, you survived, you are a fighter. I know your family is proud of you for that, I am. We all are. And we're going to help you get through this." I promised him

A tear escaped Tyler's eye then and I took my hand from his.

"You want me to read a little more?"

He slowly began to nod.

"Will it make you feel a bit better?"

Tyler sniffled "Maybe you could read the last few lines again...I lost track."

I opened the book and began to read once more.

Bella Cullen

I entered Edward's office and saw him looking out the window onto the woods with his hands in his pockets, it wasn't even clear if he knew I was there. So for a moment I just stood there watching him, wondering what he was thinking about.

"Hey" I said softly.

Edward turned to me then and nodded "Hi"

I put my purse down and crossed the room to stand beside him at the window.

"What are you thinking about?" I asked

Edward shook his head "Nothing important."

I brought my hand up to cup his cheek and he smiled.

"You look so tired." I confessed

"I've had a busy few weeks, it's catching up with me I suppose." Edward replied

I ran my thumb across his skin "You need a break."

He smiled then "We both do."

I sighed "I wish we could but, Edward, there's a lot going on right now. Esme is giving her art show this week and we promised Carlisle we'd attend that fund raiser at the hospital too."

Edward smiled and closed his eyes for a split second and in doing so appeared as if he had actually fallen asleep but his recovery was so quick.

"Edward you're exhausted, I can tell. I don't want you over doing it. Please, let's just take a few days to rest and recharge and then we can carry on with everything else."

"I was thinking we could do something. Normal. Uneventful." He suggested

I pressed my lips into a line "Baby, we're heading over to Charlie's house right now. Remember?"

Edward blinked and I watched him try to wake himself up a little.

"Right, yes I remember now." He said

I nodded and let my hand fall from his face "Maybe we'll just stay an hour or so. And then-"

Edward's phone began to ring in his pocket and once again I had to watch as he seemed to wake himself up again without actually being asleep.

"Sorry" he said pulling it from his suit jacket "I have to get this."

I nodded and Edward stepped away from me to answer it. I crossed the room to pick up my purse and when I turned to look at Edward again he was pacing the length of the floor. I was about to leave when I decided against it. Instead I kicked off my heels and placed my purse down on the nearest side table. I made my way across the room towards his desk and picked up the house phone patching in speed dial one.

"Marco?" He answered

"It's Bella, Marco. What's his schedule for tonight?"

"Dinner with you and your father, then a few calls, and there's a meeting tonight, and then because of the time difference there's a call around four a.m"

"Marco do me a favor. I'm gonna give you a message and I want you to give it to Mr Cullen the second his cell phone is free."

"Yes Ma'am"

I gave Marco the message before ending the call and crossing past Edward's desk to sit in his large leather boss chair placing my hands on the arm rests and waiting for him to end the call.

When he did, he sighed especially when the phone rang a second later.

"Yeah Marco?" He answered

Edward then smiled and hung up the call to look over at me.

"Marco wanted me to know that you're sitting in my chair." Edward told me

I smirked "Is that right?"

Edward smiled "Now how could he have known that?"

"Maybe there are cameras"

"Not in my office there's not." Edward knelt down in front of me.

I leaned forward a little in the chair "Edward you need to rest, I mean it. You look so tired."

He brought his hand up to my knee and began to slide it up my thigh under my dress.

"Edward" I scolded him.

He kissed my neck then, along my jaw.

I swallowed down my lust "I'm serious, you need to rest."

Edward found my underwear and hooked his finger around the fabric.

"Edward" I warned him again.

"Bella, please. I want you. I need you."

I moaned as his fingers slid over my clit.

"Here?" I asked breathlessly

"Hmm" he began to kiss my neck "Right here, right now."

Edward pushed my panties aside and began to pleasure me with his hand.

"Edward" I breathed.

I felt him smirk against my skin "God I love it when you say my name like that."

I began to move my hips against his hand.

"More" I whispered "Please Edward, more"

He removed his hand and I whimpered at the loss.

"Spread them." He commanded before lowering his head.

I gasped loudly as Edward began to pleasure me with his tongue, my fingers threading through his hair.

I let my head fall back against the chair and closed my eyes as Edward worked me into a frenzy with his mouth.

I gripped his hair tightly moaning his name over and over until I finally came undone for him.

Edward rose to his feet and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand.

I stood then, stepping out of my underwear and pushing him down into the chair.

"Boss?" Marco entered the room without knocking and he didn't even note our position he just focused on Edward "A call...from Rome."

Edward shot upright in his chair and the fear gripped me like a hand around my throat.

Philip and Dylan entered the room.

Edward cleared his throat "Put it through to the conference room Marco, I'll be right there."

Marco left the room and Philip and Dylan followed closing the door behind them.

Edward then turned to me.

"No, no it's not him. Tell me it's not him. Okay? Just say it's not Aro on that phone." I begged Edward and he kissed my forehead before leaving the room slamming the door shut behind him.

Edward Cullen

There was no plan in place for this trip. Nothing was booked, no instructions were given and no one would know of my location over the next forty eight hours expect only a few select few. Marco would accompany me as well as Nick my sniper. No one else was selected and those who I needed with me were needed more in Forks with those I loved and sought to protect above all else. It was imperative that none of my enemies come to learn I'd left the United States. The jet was fuelled and ready to go by the time I made it to the air strip and I boarded immediately taking my seat and notifying Marco and Nick to do the same. The sooner I took off the sooner I could begin to execute my plan.

There was nothing in place for when we landed, there was no package save Nick's riffle which he kept close like a child to it's father. Marco didn't like the risk and neither did I, but I'd spent too long not knowing what was happening out there. I needed to see for myself just once and then it would all be finished and things could return to the way they were before it all became so dark and twisted.

I would be on the ground for no less than an hour to and from the air strip and then I'd have to be back on the plane for the grueling twenty hour plus journey back to Forks.

We landed at day break with Marco instructing the crew and pilots to be ready for our return within the hour, to have the jet completely refueled and on the edge of the runway for the agreed upon time. I'd never saw Marco so on edge but it was necessary, I wouldn't have asked him to do this if I didn't think we could get in and out completely undetected.

We took a taxi to the location, it was a hot day, hotter than what even I could tolerate, while I had kept my eyes fixed ahead on the road Marco and Nick had continued to scorch in the heat unable to cool off due to the confines of their suits. I was dressed similarly in a black suit with a crisp black shirt and a pair of sunglasses hid my eyes from the world, Marco and Nick wore theirs too.

When we arrived Marco paid the fare and I was escorted into a warehouse and brought to the second floor by Marco while Nick took to the roof. I didn't see anything at first, nothing I wanted to, I just continued to stare out until finally I saw my target.

"We can stay another minute Boss." Marco said beside me

We stood at the window of a rundown warehouse that stunk of some sort of cleaning parricide as I gazed out at one of the ship yard below, gazing across at the hospital shop code name 'The Wing'

"Boss?" Marco asked again.

I shook my head "No. Time to go."

"Sir are you sure? We're already here." Marco said

I nodded "Back to the plane."

Marco began to talk into his sleeve to Nick while I gazed out at the distant Tanya on the other side of the ship yard, she was like an ant from this distance but it was most defiantly her. She was either wearing a wig or she'd destroyed her blonde hair with a colour that said nothing about her and that softness within her that I had destroyed.

I watched her talking to the ship yard crew who were bringing supplies onto the ship, she was of course leading the way, she was a boss no matter what else she was calling herself these days. To me she would always be Tanya Denali, fourth rank and...a light in a dark room.

"I did offer to keep tabs on her."

"I know you did," I replied gazing out at Tanya "How long did it take to find her anyway?" I asked

"...A week."

"So, she did a good job then at disappearing." I pressed my lips together "How did she do it?" I asked

Marco sighed beside me "She did good, didn't touch her accounts, took a ship from Vegas right up into Canada."

"We don't have any contacts there." I said

"No and she knew it, that's why she went, and that's where she began the work, the new IDs, documentation, all of it."

"And then what did she do?" I asked

"Nothing, she boarded ship to ship to ship. She's been on that one ever since."

My eyes continued to follow her, that poor girl, I'd fucked with her head and almost destroyed her in the process. Tanya was possibly traumatized from the break in that night, and then when I showed her how easy it would be for her to be kidnapped, she'd looked at me like the monster I hoped Bella would never see. Tanya being out here was my fault and I couldn't do anything this time.

I couldn't make her come back. Not when I was the problem.

"I could track her Boss, get someone on the inside and get an update on-"

"No."

Marco cleared his throat "I know I've asked every month since but, if you would like me or one of my men to find your sister-"

"No." I repeated

I sighed heavily "Give me a minute"

I listened as Marco stepped away from me leaving me alone to gaze out at Tanya and wonder what she was thinking.

"Stop fucking hating me." I whispered.

It was time to go back.

I should never have gone there, by the time I got back to Forks I couldn't think straight. I knew those waters and what was out there that could possibly stop her ship including a few of my own enemies.

I sat down in my office and put my head in my hands.

Tanya was safe, I just had to keep telling myself that, she was doing well for herself out there and that was all I could hope for.

"Boss?" Marco knocked before entering.

"What's is it?" I asked.

"Mrs Cullen is on her way."

"Right." I said and stood up to walk away from my desk and get out of my head for a second.

Marco shut the door behind him and I ran my hand down my face.

Those waters, those fucking waters. I suddenly felt sick to my stomach, it was stupid that I'd gone, I should never have done it. I was better not going, if anything me going there was worse than sleeping with Tanya in the first place because it proved I had fucked up royally. Why did I have to scare her? Why didn't I just talk to her? That look in her eye that day in the car was gut wrenching but nothing compared to what she said that night.

"What did I ever do to you?"

That woman had cut me to the bone with that question because it was true, she had done nothing to me. But I'd done everything to her.

I ran my hand down my face.

"Fuck." I whispered.

She was doing fine in Mexico, she was fine there and I did this. I fucked all of this up and she left because of my actions. I did this to her, I sent her out there and now I couldn't do a thing about it. I couldn't even tell Bella I'd gone, she'd be furious and rightfully so.

Tanya was gone.

Rosalie was gone.

How long until Bella was gone too?

How was I gonna fix this?

It was only then I registered the sound of Bella's voice, I hadn't even heard my wife enter the room.

That was the last good moment we had together.

Before the phone call changed everything.
