AUTHOR'S NOTE: Like with incident 0114092004, to prevent problems with the Loud House crossover aspect of this fanfic the name of the victim has been changed.
"INCIDENT 0121122001" graces the cover of the next file, alongside a drawing of a tumble dryer.
Ruby: "Incident 0121122001 is up next."
Shannon: "That's the one with the tumble dryer. Or should I say, tumble dier!"
Shannon laughs at her pun. The image on her laptop screen shows a massive industrial tumble dryer, the upper body of a man sticking out. The man's skin is red and covered with burns.
Shannon: "But seriously, these machines can mess you up. Let's find out how…"
Zoom in.
The video begins in a warehouse-like building, where several industrial tumble dryers, painted blue, sit side-by-side like soldiers in formation.
Date of Incident: 21 December, 2001
Location of Incident: Los Angeles, California
Two men enter the building and approach one of the machines.
Ruby: (Narrating) "Hernándo Mandera is at one of the, like, largest hospitals in the Los Angeles area. His job here is to repair one of their industrial-sized clothes dryers."
Walking over to the control panel, Hernándo flips a switch and the lid of the dryer swings open. He uses a flashlight to look inside the dryer's barrel.
Hernándo: "I'm gonna get in there. Mind cutting the power?"
Hernándo climbs into the dryer.
Ruby: (Narrating) "As per normal safety procedures, Hernándo has his partner kill the breaker before, like, climbing into the giant machine."
Whilst Hernándo uses his light to inspect the inside of the machine, his partner walks over to a series of breakers and pulls the switch on one of them.
Ruby: (Narrating) "He didn't know that his partner had cut off the power to, like, the wrong machine."
A view from one of the dryer room's security cameras is seen. Hernándo is visible inside the dryer. Suddenly, we see a green LED light up on the control panel, and the door of the dryer begins to close behind Hernándo. Once it shuts it locks closed. He realises what has happened and spins his flashlight towards the closed door.
Hernándo: "Hey, Brett! Hey!"
Hernándo begins banging on the door in an attempt to get Brett's attention.
Ruby: (Narrating) "Hernándo was trapped. He knew he only had, like, a few seconds before the dryer started its cycle."
Back to the security camera, where we hear Hernándo banging on the door and yelling Brett's name. After a few seconds the barrel of the dryer begins to spin and Hernándo falls over. A shot inside the dryer shows Hernándo tumbling head over heels as the dryer heats up.
Ruby: (Narrating) "With the dryer spinning wildly and its temperature hitting, like, two hundred degrees Fahrenheit, poor Hernándo was being shaken AND baked to death. Shannon, analysis."
Back to Shannon in the office.
Shannon: "As Ruby said, the temperatures in those industrial tumble dryers can reach 200 degrees Fahrenheit, or 93.3 degrees Celsius. Hernándo probably only lasted a few minutes in that kind of environment. Unless he could somehow use leverage to kick his way out of there, he'd be tumbling around, his core temperature going up to around 105 and staying there, which would be enough to destroy his muscles and organs."
Back at the warehouse, a new camera shot shows Brett returning from doing something, and spotting the running dryer with Hernándo inside. He flies into panic mode and begins running over to the machine.
Brett: "Woah! Woahwoahwoah! Hernándo! HERNÁNDO!
Brett rushes over to the dryer's controls and hits the stop button.
Ruby: (Narrating) "Six long minutes later his partner finally returned."
The dryer's barrel slows to a stop, and the door unlocks and lifts open. Hernándo's lifeless, cooked body slumps out, and Brett screams.
Ruby: (Narrating) "But it was, like, too late. An unusual fate, but not unheard of. These things have killed a handful of people. Often it's, like, teenagers looking for a thrill, but finding themselves trapped in a machine set on 'tumble die'."
WAY TO DIE #640
TUMBLE DIE
Back to Shannon and Ruby in the office.
Ruby: "I think, like twenty people a year perish in those things?"
Shannon: "I think those statistics are outdated. Still, not a very good way to go. Anyways, next file, please. My turn to narrate."
Ruby marks the file and wheels over to get the next one.
AUTHOR'S NOTE: And with that, I have covered all six deaths featured in the first episode of 1000 Ways to Die, "Life Will Kill You". This fic is coming along quite nicely!
