After the heated meeting with her parents, Veronica Lodge and Archie Andrews left the Lodge mansion and headed back to their apartment. The tension from the confrontation was still hanging in the air, and they both needed to vent.
As soon as they walked through the door, Veronica let out a frustrated sigh. "I can't believe them! Hiram and Hermione are such rats!"
Archie looked at her, his expression a mix of concern and determination. "I know, Ronnie. But we knew they might react like this. It's our wedding, though, not theirs. We'll figure it out."
Veronica threw her purse on the couch and collapsed next to it, running a hand through her hair. "I just don't get why they can't understand. This is supposed to be our special day."
Archie sat beside her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "It will be our special day. We just have to stick together and not let them get to us."
Veronica leaned into him, her voice softening. "I'll try, Archie. I really will."
After a few moments of quiet comfort, Veronica decided she needed to talk to her friends. "I'm going to our room to Zoom with the girls. I need their advice on how to handle this."
"Good idea," Archie said, giving her a reassuring kiss on the forehead. "I'll call my mom and Uncle Frank, see what they think."
Veronica headed to their bedroom, pulling out her laptop. She set up a Zoom call with her best friends: Betty Cooper, Cheryl Blossom, Toni Topaz, Emily Cooper, and Olivia Baker. Within moments, their faces appeared on the screen, full of curiosity and concern.
"Hey, V! What's going on?" Betty asked, immediately sensing the tension.
Veronica sighed. "It's been a rough day. We just had a meeting with my parents about the wedding, and they're totally against our plans. They want a traditional Catholic wedding in Riverdale, and they're furious we're doing it our way."
Cheryl rolled her eyes dramatically. "Typical Hiram and Hermione. They always have to control everything."
Toni nodded in agreement. "You've got to stand your ground, Veronica. It's your wedding, not theirs."
Emily leaned in, her face full of sympathy. "Do you need me to fly over and help mediate? I can be there in a heartbeat."
Olivia chimed in. "You know we've got your back, Veronica. Just tell us what you need."
Veronica smiled, feeling the support of her friends lifting her spirits. "Thanks, guys. I just needed to hear that. I'm trying to stay strong, but it's hard when your own parents are against you."
Meanwhile, in the living room, Archie Facetimed his mom, Mary Andrews, and his uncle Frank. When their faces appeared on the screen, he quickly explained the situation.
"Mom, Uncle Frank, we just had a meeting with Veronica's parents about the wedding, and it was a disaster. They're against our plans, and it's causing a lot of stress."
Mary listened intently before responding. "Archie, I understand you and Veronica want your own wedding, but maybe Hiram and Hermione have a point. A traditional wedding could be nice."
Archie was stunned. "Mom, we've planned everything. It's our dream wedding. Why are you taking their side?"
Mary sighed. "I'm not taking sides, Archie. I just think you should consider all perspectives. Family is important, and traditions matter."
Archie's frustration boiled over. "Mom, this is our decision! We're not changing it just because they want us to!"
Mary looked taken aback by his outburst. "Archie, calm down. I'm just trying to help."
But Archie was too upset. "I thought you'd support us, but I guess I was wrong." He hung up the phone abruptly, feeling a mix of anger and disappointment.
Veronica re-emerged from the bedroom, her call with the girls having helped her regain some composure. She saw the look on Archie's face and knew something was wrong.
"What happened?" she asked, concerned.
Archie shook his head, trying to push down his anger. "I called my mom and Uncle Frank. Turns out they're siding with your parents. I couldn't believe it. I hung up on her."
Veronica sighed, sitting next to him and taking his hand. "We're in this together, Archie. No matter what. We'll figure it out."
Archie looked at her, his eyes filled with resolve. "Yeah, we will. We're not letting them ruin this for us."
Veronica nodded. "We'll make our wedding perfect, and they'll just have to deal with it."
As the night grew deeper, they found solace in each other's arms, knowing that their love was stronger than any obstacle they faced. They were determined to have the wedding of their dreams, and no amount of opposition could change that.
