A = Allergic Reaction

It was a day filled with paperwork in the office, and Kim decided to bring in some brownies to lighten the mood.

"Hey, I brought some brownies! Who wants one?" she announced cheerfully.

The team members eagerly got up from their desks and each took a brownie.

"Hails, you want one too?" Jay asked.

Hailey had always been prone to allergic reactions since she was a toddler, but she didn't want to be the only one to refuse a teammate's kind gesture.

"Sure, I'll have one," she said with a smile.

Hailey grabbed a brownie and took a bite, hoping she wouldn't regret it.

Throughout the day, Hailey began to feel tingling sensations in her hands.

She tried to breathe, but her throat started to close up. Jay noticed immediately.

"Hails, are you okay?"

Hailey nodded and stood up, but Jay wasn't convinced.

"No, you're not…"

Suddenly, Hailey knocked everything off her desk and collapsed into Jay's arms.

"I got you, babe, I got you."

Kim rushed over, concerned.

"Is she okay?"

Jay tried to help Hailey breathe and spoke urgently.

"She's having an allergic reaction to the brownie. Call 911!"

Kim quickly dialed 911.

"J-Jay… I-I can't breathe…" Hailey gasped.

Jay gently stroked her hair and kissed her forehead.

"Hang on for me, baby."

Hailey lost consciousness just as the paramedics arrived.

"She's going into anaphylactic shock. Let's get her intubated and loaded up," Brett ordered.

Violet nodded and handed Brett the equipment.

"You're in."

Brett nodded and placed Hailey onto the stretcher.

"Let's move!"

Violet followed Brett downstairs while Jay grabbed his jacket.

"We'll meet you at Med!" Hank called out.

Jay nodded and rushed downstairs.

At the hospital, the paramedics wheeled Hailey into the emergency room. Doctors and nurses quickly took over, working to stabilize her. After what felt like an eternity, Hailey was moved to a hospital room.

Jay Halstead walked in, his face etched with worry. He approached Hailey's bedside, taking her hand gently.

"Hey, baby. You're going to be okay," he whispered, his voice filled with relief and love.

Hailey's eyes fluttered open, and she managed a weak smile.

"Jay…"

"I'm here, Hails. I'm right here."

Jay sat by Hailey's side, holding her hand tightly. The steady beeping of the heart monitor was a comforting sound, indicating that she was stable.

A nurse walked in, checking Hailey's vitals and adjusting her IV. She smiled reassuringly at Jay.

"She's doing well. The doctor will be in shortly to give you an update."

Jay nodded, his eyes never leaving Hailey's face. He gently brushed a strand of hair away from her forehead.

"You're so strong, Hails. You're going to get through this."

Moments later, Dr. Choi entered the room, his expression calm and professional.

"Jay, Hailey is stable now. The allergic reaction was severe, but we managed to get it under control. She'll need to stay here for observation, but she's going to be okay."

Jay let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding. "Thank you, Dr. Choi."

Dr. Choi nodded. "She'll need to rest, but you can stay with her."

Jay squeezed Hailey's hand gently. "I'll be right here, Hails. I'm not going anywhere."

Hailey's eyes fluttered open again, and she gave Jay a faint smile. "I knew you'd be here."

Jay smiled back, his heart swelling with relief and love. "Always, Hails. Always."

After a few days in the hospital, Hailey was finally well enough to go home. Jay helped her into the car, making sure she was comfortable before driving them back to their apartment.

As they walked through the front door, Jay kept a protective arm around Hailey. "Welcome home, Hails," he said softly.

Hailey smiled, feeling a wave of relief wash over her. "It's good to be back."

Jay guided her to the couch and helped her sit down. "You just relax. I'll get you some water."

Hailey nodded, leaning back against the cushions. She watched as Jay moved around the apartment, his concern for her evident in every action.

Jay returned with a glass of water and handed it to her. "Here you go. Do you need anything else?"

Hailey shook her head. "Just you."

Jay sat down beside her, taking her hand in his. "I'm not going anywhere."

They sat in comfortable silence for a while, just enjoying each other's presence. Jay gently stroked Hailey's hand, his touch reassuring.

"Thank you for everything, Jay," Hailey said quietly. "I don't know what I would have done without you."

Jay smiled and kissed her forehead. "You don't have to thank me, Hails. I love you, and I'll always be here for you."

Hailey leaned her head on his shoulder, feeling safe and loved. "I love you too, Jay."

As they sat together, the events of the past few days seemed to fade away, replaced by the warmth and comfort of being home with each other.
