Jay was finally coming home after being shot. He was still drowsy from the sleeping pills he had been given the night before.

The nurse was checking him out, while the doctor examined his stomach.

The doctor nodded, satisfied with Jay's progress. "You're healing well," he said. "Just take it easy for a while."

Jay managed a weak smile. "Thanks, Doc."

The nurse handed Jay his discharge papers. "Make sure to follow the instructions and take your medications on time," she advised.

Jay nodded, feeling a mix of relief and exhaustion. He couldn't wait to be back in the comfort of his own home.

As Jay left the room, he stumbled. Hank Voight quickly steadied him.

"Easy there, Jay," Hank said, his grip firm but gentle. "You've been through a lot."

Jay nodded, grateful for Hank's support. "Thanks, Hank. Just a bit woozy."

Hank guided him down the hallway, making sure Jay didn't falter. "Let's get you home. You need rest."

Jay took a deep breath, feeling the weight of the past few days lift slightly. "Home sounds good," he murmured, leaning on Hank as they made their way out of the hospital.

As Jay and Hank made their way out of the hospital, the fresh air hit Jay like a wave. Suddenly, his stomach churned violently.

"Hold on," Jay muttered, breaking away from Hank and stumbling to the side of the road. He bent over and vomited, his body heaving with the effort.

Hank was by his side in an instant, rubbing his back. "It's okay, Jay. Just let it out."

Jay wiped his mouth with the back of his hand, feeling weak and embarrassed. "Sorry about that," he said, his voice shaky.

"Don't worry about it," Hank reassured him. "You've been through hell. Let's get you home and cleaned up."

Jay nodded, grateful for Hank's steady presence. He took a deep breath and leaned on Hank once more, ready to continue the journey home.

Hank and Jay finally arrived at Hailey's apartment. Jay was exhausted, leaning heavily on Hank for support.

Hailey opened the door, her face a mix of relief and concern. "Jay, you're here," she said softly, stepping aside to let them in.

Jay managed a tired smile. "Hey, Hailey."

Hank helped Jay to the couch, where he sank down gratefully. "He needs rest," Hank said, looking at Hailey. "It's been a rough day."

Hailey nodded, her eyes never leaving Jay. "I'll take care of him. Thanks, Hank."

Hank gave Jay a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "Get some sleep, Jay. You're in good hands."

Jay nodded, already feeling the pull of sleep. "Thanks, Hank. Thanks, Hailey."

As Hank left, Hailey sat beside Jay, gently brushing his hair back. "You're safe now," she whispered. "Just rest."

Jay closed his eyes, finally allowing himself to relax. He was home, and that was all that mattered.

Jay drifted off to sleep almost immediately, his body finally succumbing to the exhaustion. For a few minutes, he slept peacefully, but then his dreams took a dark turn.

Suddenly, Jay's eyes flew open, and he cried out, "Hailey!" His voice was filled with panic, his mind trapped in the memory of the warehouse.

Hailey was at his side in an instant, her hand gently shaking his shoulder. "Jay, it's okay. You're safe. I'm here."

Jay's breathing was ragged as he looked around, disoriented. Slowly, the familiar surroundings of Hailey's apartment came into focus. He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself.

"Hailey," he whispered, his voice trembling. "I thought… I thought I was back there."

Hailey wrapped her arms around him, holding him close. "You're not there anymore, Jay. You're safe with me. Just breathe."

Jay clung to her, the fear gradually ebbing away. "Thank you," he murmured, his eyes closing again. "Thank you for being here."

Hailey kissed his forehead. "Always, Jay. Now try to get some rest. I'll be right here."

With Hailey's comforting presence beside him, Jay slowly drifted back to sleep, the nightmares kept at bay by her reassuring touch.

Hailey moved quietly around the kitchen, preparing dinner. The comforting aroma of a home-cooked meal filled the apartment, a stark contrast to the sterile hospital environment Jay had just left.

As she stirred the pot, Hailey glanced over at Jay, who was resting on the couch. Her heart sank when she noticed him sweating and rubbing his stomach, his face contorted in discomfort.

"Jay?" she called softly, setting down the spoon and walking over to him. "Are you okay?"

Jay looked up, his eyes clouded with pain. "My stomach… it hurts," he admitted, his voice strained.

Hailey knelt beside him, her hand gently touching his forehead. "You're burning up," she said, worry etched on her face. "Let me get you some water and your medication."

Jay nodded weakly, leaning back against the cushions. Hailey quickly fetched a glass of water and his prescribed pills, handing them to him with a reassuring smile.

"Here, take these," she said, watching as he swallowed the medication. "It should help with the pain."

Jay took a few sips of water, his hand still resting on his stomach. "Thanks, Hailey," he murmured, his eyes closing briefly.

Hailey sat beside him, her hand resting on his arm. "Do you want to lie down for a bit? Dinner can wait."

Jay shook his head. "No, I'll be okay. Just need a moment."

Hailey nodded, staying close by. "I'm here if you need anything," she said softly. "Just rest."

Jay managed a small smile, grateful for her presence. "I know. Thanks, Hailey."

As Hailey returned to the kitchen, she kept a watchful eye on Jay, ready to help at a moment's notice. She knew the road to recovery would be long, but she was there for him.

Jay eventually drifted into a deep sleep, his breathing becoming steady and calm. Hailey finished up in the kitchen, then quietly walked over to the couch where Jay lay.

She gently lifted his head and slid onto the couch, placing his head on her lap. Jay stirred slightly but didn't wake, his face relaxing as he settled into the new position.

Hailey softly stroked his hair, her touch soothing and gentle. She watched him sleep, her heart aching for everything he had been through. "You're safe now, Jay," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "I'll be here when you wake up."

As the evening light dimmed, Hailey continued to sit with Jay, her presence a comforting anchor in his turbulent world. She knew the road ahead would be challenging, but she was ready to face it with him, one step at a time.

Jay slept soundly, his head resting on Hailey's lap. The room was quiet, the only sound being the soft hum of the refrigerator and the occasional rustle of leaves outside the window.

As the hours passed, Hailey remained by Jay's side, her fingers gently running through his hair. She could see the tension slowly leaving his body, his face peaceful in sleep.

Eventually, Jay began to stir. His eyes fluttered open, and he looked up to see Hailey smiling down at him. "Hey," he murmured, his voice still heavy with sleep.

"Hey," Hailey replied softly. "How are you feeling?"

Jay took a moment to assess himself. "Better," he said, a small smile forming on his lips. "Thanks to you."

Hailey's smile widened. "I'm glad. You had me worried for a bit."

Jay reached up and took her hand, squeezing it gently. "I don't know what I'd do without you, Hailey."

"You don't have to worry about that," she said, leaning down to kiss his forehead. "I'm not going anywhere."

Jay sighed contentedly, feeling a sense of peace he hadn't felt in a long time. "I know," he whispered. "Thank you."

Hailey continued to stroke his hair, her heart full of love and determination. "We'll get through this together, Jay. One day at a time."

Jay nodded, closing his eyes again. With Hailey by his side, he knew he could face whatever challenges lay ahead. For now, he allowed himself to rest, comforted by the knowledge that he was finally home, surrounded by love and support.
