Dear Readers,

As you may have noticed, I have been working on a series of updates. My time has been limited due to a transition in my current job, but I am confident everything will be resolved favorably soon.

That said, life is a gamble, and I am determined to play to win! Once again, I am here proudly sharing my work as KaleidoMirror with all of you.

In this chapter, we delve deeper into the Parker family dynamics and offer a brief summary of Shirou's life up to this point. You'll see how our protagonist evolves according to his unique situation, so this episode focuses on his adaptation. I hope you enjoy it.

Your opinions are very important to me, so please feel free to share your thoughts and comments on this new direction. I would love to know which story you'd like me to prioritize for quicker updates.

I want to reiterate that "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" and its respective adaptations are the property of their creators. Likewise, "Fate/Stay Night" and its various adaptations and visual novels are the property of Kinoko Nasu and Typemoon.

Are you ready?

Enjoy!

End of 4th School Period

"Parker!" The voice was brief but loud enough to cut through the hazy dreams of Shirou, who had once again fallen asleep on his desk.

"This is the last time, Parker!" The voice intensified, finally rousing the tenth grader. Shirou felt a firm hand on his back and looked up, dazed, to meet the disapproving gaze of Mr. Roger Harrington, the newly appointed science teacher.

"Please, Shirou, you're better than this, aren't you?" Harrington said with a tired sigh, handing him a slip with a detention notice. "Lately, these are leaving a mark on your record. Please, don't be late to detention like last time. Mr. Sloan will go easy on you, but only if you don't skip this last chance."

"But, Mr. Harrington, I just..." Shirou began to excuse himself, but he stopped when he noticed the classroom was empty; his classmates had already left.

Harrington looked at him seriously. "I really want to help you, but if you keep neglecting your duties, you might lose the bright future I see in you." The bespectacled man turned towards the exit, pausing in the doorway to give Shirou one last look. "I don't want you to disappoint your family anymore, Shirou. I want to see real change in you and for you not to waste your potential."

With those words, the teacher left, leaving Shirou alone with his thoughts. The classroom was silent, and Shirou clenched his fists, frustrated with himself. He could already imagine the laughter and comments from his classmates in the next class.

He gathered his things and slowly headed towards the exit. A part of his conscience berated him for being foolish enough to accept the proposal from that man in the mysterious comic book shop six months ago. Since then, his life had changed drastically.

So far, everyone around Shirou had varied perspectives about him.

As the eldest of two siblings in a typical suburban family, his name held special significance, honoring someone important and a great benefactor to the family. However, he always found it challenging to adapt culturally to American life because of his unusual name.

From a young age, Shirou carried a deep secret: he had fragmented visions of his past life, playing the role of an older brother to a girl named Miyu. But over time, those memories and ordinary experiences faded until they disappeared.

As if fate wanted to add more trials, misfortunes never come alone. At just eight years old, he suffered the traumatic experience of losing both parents. It was a devastating blow and a period in which he committed himself fully to taking care of his younger brother, Peter.

Fortunately, the world wasn't unjust enough to abandon them. They were taken in by their paternal uncles, who showered them with love and care. They always explained that no one could replace their parents, but over time they proved they could rely on them just as much.

It was no surprise when their uncles guided both brothers, teaching them the value of life and the fundamental principles that laid the foundation of their personalities.

This final push helped Shirou develop exceptional skills.

He quickly excelled in sports, particularly in archery, and showed increasing talent in football, earning him a sports scholarship upon entering high school. This drive to show more dedication continued until his Uncle Ben suffered a health issue that strained the household's financial stability. To help his family, Shirou took on odd jobs, risking his scholarship and academic performance in the process.

Despite the challenges, it was a great relief that this episode was only temporary, but there was a reason to keep pushing forward with all this weight on his shoulders: Peter.

Even now, with the passing years, Shirou proudly bore the title of older brother. Becoming a role model for his sibling gave him enough reason not to disappoint him.

But everything changed. Now more than ever, he began to grasp the significance of those words spoken on a summer afternoon during childhood: "With great power comes great responsibility."

Because not only was he now working and studying, trying to find a proper balance between his recent 'double life,' he was also trying to prepare himself for the challenges the future might bring.

Looking in the mirror, Shirou examined his reflection, completely soaked.

For someone his age, his body showed optimal development, thanks to his sports-focused lifestyle and balanced diet. His hair, a tousled mane of vibrant red, was distinctive among the students.

"It's getting harder and harder to find an excuse to handle this," he murmured, making eye contact with himself. His golden irises, which were slowly turning silver, reflected a change he didn't want to acknowledge.

However, that wasn't the most important thing. He felt the pain of the tattoo on his left shoulder again. The figure was strange and ambiguous, and in recent months, the itching had been recurring. Instinctively, his right hand touched it, feeling relief as he cooled it with cold water from the faucet.

"But... I still don't know how all this will end," Shirou stood up, leaving the men's bathroom with the intention of heading to detention. He could already imagine Mr. Sloan scolding him again for being late.

School Hallways

As he walked down the hallway, lost in thought, he unexpectedly bumped into someone, almost making her fall.

"Sorry, I didn't see you," Shirou apologized, struggling to regain his balance. He looked up to see Cynthia Moon, the most beautiful girl in school, looking at him with her cheerful eyes.

"What, were you distracted by my incredibly charming looks?" Her eyebrows arched playfully.

Shirou reached out to pick up her things, grabbing the water bottle from the floor and stabilizing the pile of books with his other hand. "No..." he rolled his eyes, knowing she was just teasing him. "You know what I mean. It's not that I don't think you're charming... I just wasn't paying attention."

Cynthia laughed softly. "Let me guess... detention again, Shirou?"

"Was I that obvious this time?" Shirou grumbled as he headed towards his locker.

"Is that a joke?" The Korean-American girl rolled her eyes. "Mr. Harrington tried to wake you up more times than I can count." She asked with her eyes if he could hold her books for a moment while she searched through her backpack.

"I know," Shirou accepted the books, surprised to see that most of them were supplements to help him catch up with his classes. "Hey... Moon, is this what I think it is?"

"Obviously, Einstein," she replied with a smile, pulling out a small food container from her backpack. "Consider yourself lucky to have me as your best friend."

He looked at her, feeling grateful but also a little ashamed. It wasn't the first time Cynthia had helped him this way, making him feel guilty when he was usually the one doing the helping. "You know you didn't have to bother," he said, averting his gaze. "It's just that I..."

She interrupted him, placing a hand over his lips. "You know I've been patient, Shirou," she said with a hurt expression. "Since you changed abruptly about six months ago, I've been worried," she clenched her hands, turning her back to him. "What's been going on with you lately?"

Shirou tried to smile, but his expression was weary. "It's complicated, Moon. There are things I still can't explain."

"Really?" She looked back at him, frustrated, before crossing her arms. "Aren't we friends? Doesn't a five-year friendship mean anything, that you can't trust me, even a little?"

Shirou sighed deeply. "You know it has nothing to do with trust," he said, putting the books she gave him into his locker. "It's just that this is different," his tone was empty, "This is something I can't share with anyone."

Cynthia looked at him, trying to make him change his mind as she always did, but after a few seconds, she realized she wouldn't win this time.

"Hey, it's okay, Shirou. I get it. It's just that we're in our last year and..." she sighed, frustrated. Then, seizing the opportunity, she played one last joke. She placed both hands on his face, forcing him to look into her eyes. "Just remember that I'm here for you."

Shirou nodded, grateful and rolling his eyes at his friend's audacity. She was definitely the reason most of the male population wanted to kill him with their looks, but he really appreciated her encouragement and support. "I know, Moon. And I appreciate it. Really."

Cynthia let go and smiled. "Good. Now go to detention before Sloan gives you another lecture." She briefly took out her cheerleader outfit before sticking her tongue out. "And please don't forget we have our rematch against Bronx Science this weekend."

"I know," Shirou rolled his eyes, admiring this childish side of his friend. "Thanks, Moon. See you later," he took a moment before turning to head to detention, hoping Peter would see him dominate the competition again this year.

After School

When he got home, as expected, his younger brother was waiting for him in the living room, smiling.

"Shirou!" Peter exclaimed, hugging him before looking at him with a mix of reproach and concern. "Why are you so late? Aunt May is really worried."

"Sorry, Pete," Shirou said, trying to smile. "I had to stay at school for a little problem. I'll talk to her right after I change."

"A problem?" Peter tilted his head, confused.

"It's a long story," Shirou said, changing the subject as he noticed an extra backpack near the living room table. "Hey, is that Harry's backpack?"

"Of course not!" Peter shook his head as he followed his brother. "It's just that the deadline for our project is so close we can't keep working on it at his place. His father, a police officer, has had to work extra hours because of the recent crime spike in Queens. All after the appearance of that mysterious red vigilante!"

"Is that so?" Shirou froze for a moment after hearing this revelation. "And how's the research going?"

"I'm not sure," Peter noticed his brother's odd behavior but decided to let it go. "She hasn't mentioned much about it. Besides, she's been just as dedicated as I am to getting this project done. We're hoping to be selected to join the after-school program at Empire State University, in the Junior High School league."

"She?" Shirou responded, confused.

"Yeah," Peter smiled, crossing his arms proudly. "She's a new friend I've had since the start of this school year. Unfortunately, you haven't been able to meet her because you haven't been home much lately."

Shirou felt guilty, realizing where the conversation was heading. "It's complicated, Pete," he sighed, scratching the back of his head.

"I feel like you're always busy with something you don't want to tell me," Peter's tone was clear, but he still looked at his brother with concern.

Before Shirou could respond, a young girl entered the scene, trying to get both brothers' attention.

"Is this a bad time?" The girl with long blonde hair looked confused, especially at Shirou. Playing with her hands, she blushed before introducing herself. "Sorry for the interruption, I'm Gwen Stacy, Peter's friend."

"You took your time in the bathroom," Peter joked, causing Gwen to puff her cheeks at her friend's lack of tact.

"Peter!" she scolded, stepping forward to clarify things.

"Nice to meet you, Gwen. I'm Shirou Parker, Pete's older brother," Shirou smiled, trying not to laugh at the joke but failing. Especially seeing how the mysterious girl punched his little brother on the shoulder. "You'll have to excuse him, but I guess you already know he's usually like this."

"I know," the girl sighed, stopping her harassment of the younger Parker. "He'll never stop being so childish."

"Hey," Peter looked at them, feeling betrayed. "I'm still here, you know?"

At this point, both Shirou and Gwen burst into laughter, while Peter stopped frowning and joined in the fun, accepting his defeat this time.

After a moment of chatting more after the introductions, everyone focused on the reason Gwen had been invited to the house, and Shirou was very interested in what they had been creating all this time.

"I see you've been working hard," Shirou said after calming down, surprised by the large number of mechanical and electrical components in the model. "What's it about?"

"It's a detailed analysis of a lizard's physiological system," Gwen explained, excited. "We're incorporating a prototype of robotic technology into a simulation of how they regenerate their limbs."

"Wow, that sounds really interesting," Shirou said, getting closer to examine it more closely, taking some of the schematics and theories centered on reptiles. "How did you start developing this project?"

"It was thanks to our report being chosen in class, and we were given the opportunity to compete for the Empire State University after-school program," Peter said, nervously playing with his glasses. "We really want to have it finished by next month for the presentation."

"That sounds a bit complicated," Shirou commented, feeling there was more to his little brother's words, offering him the plans. Taking a moment to reflect, he leaned back in his chair, "And what about the technical challenges? Have you encountered any difficult barriers? How has your tutor been advising you?"

Peter nodded, looking at Gwen. "We've received adequate information and resources from our professor. But integrating the biological components with the mechanical ones has been particularly challenging. But Gwen has been incredibly ingenious in finding solutions."

Gwen smiled, still a bit shy from the praise. "It's been a team effort. Peter has developed some impressive chemical formulas to simulate the lizard's proteins. Unfortunately, what worries us most is…"

"We're still a bit short on funds," Peter sighed, a bit frustrated, interrupting his friend.

"Despite how ambitious this sounds, you've really created something impressive," said Shirou. "Do you need help with anything specific? Maybe I can help with the budget or connect you with someone who can sponsor you."

"That would be great, Shirou!" Peter exclaimed. "Any help would be really appreciated. We want to make sure this project not only succeeds in the contest but also has real applications in regenerative medicine."

"Alright, alright," Shirou raised his hand, trying to calm the excited pair of geniuses. "I'll talk to some contacts and see what I can do," he promised. "In the meantime, keep up the great work. I'm really proud of you two."

Gwen and Peter smiled, grateful. "Thanks, Shirou," they said in unison.

To be frank, he already expected great things from Pete, his little genius brother.

In recent years, Pete had shown a true talent in chemistry and science, so finding someone like-minded put Shirou at ease. Not that he didn't appreciate Harry, another of Pete's friends, but the young man helped push Pete out of his comfort zone, so Shirou was glad to see his little brother's circle of friends grow.

"Well," Shirou said, standing up, "I'll leave you to your work. But don't hesitate to ask me for help if you need it."

"We will," Peter said. "Thanks again, brother."

"I'm sure you'll be selected for the program," Shirou assured them, smiling as he grabbed the doorknob.

"Thanks, Shirou," Gwen said, tidying up her work area, feeling a bit embarrassed but happy to know someone appreciated their efforts over the past month. "That means a lot to us."

After leaving the living room, Shirou started walking towards the stairs with the intention of changing in his room, but what he didn't expect was to see Aunt May watching him from the kitchen doorway.

"Shirou, I need to talk to you for a moment."

Stopping halfway up the stairs, Shirou looked at her in surprise for a moment before nodding. As he descended, he was aware it was time to face another conversation that was slowly becoming usual about his recent actions. Passing by the living room, he could hear Peter and Gwen resuming their work, their voices full of enthusiasm and dedication.

"Come, have a seat, my dear. You must be hungry, right?" As expected, upon entering the kitchen, Aunt May was waiting with a serious but understanding expression.

In a way, she didn't mention the obvious, so he simply nodded to her words and took a seat while she placed a sandwich and a cold soda in front of him.

"Thanks, Aunt May," he thanked her, still not touching his food. He didn't know what to say, since he really didn't want to lie to her. The best option was always to remain silent, hoping to say what he truly wanted but lacking the strength to take the first step.

She looked at him, still worried. "Shirou, you were really late again today," she said, sitting across from him at the small table.

A brief silence settled between them, neither taking the initiative.

"Why don't you eat while it's still warm?" she invited, speaking in a melancholy tone. But her nephew only nodded and began to eat slowly.

"You know?" She walked to the pantry and took out a document before sitting down again. "Not long ago, I received this report card with a notice for next week," she passed the paper to him, sighing as she closed her eyes. "I don't think your uncle will be happy about this news."

"Sorry, Aunt May," Shirou said, lowering his gaze, leaving his sandwich half-eaten.

"Shirou..."

"I had to stay at school for another detention," he refused to look up, clenching his fists under the table. "I fell asleep in class again."

Aunt May sighed, getting up and placing a hand on his shoulder.

"I…"

"I understand things have been tough lately." She knelt down to hug him, catching him by surprise, speaking in a soft, reassuring tone. "You can't keep going like this," she increased the intensity of her affection. "You've changed, Shirou... Not only have I noticed, but Pete and your uncle have too."

"…"

"You're a brave person. Always trying to set an example for over seven years," she found herself immersed in sweet memories. "I think there's a hero in all of us, Shirou. That's why I can see and assure you that you're noble. But even with that weight you carry," her right hand stroked his back, "don't forget that we're your family and we'll always be here for you."

"Aunt... it's just that I still..."

"We really want you to tell us what you're going through so we can help you," she felt part of her shoulders getting wet but pretended to ignore it.

"I know," even with Shirou's face hidden, the broken tone in his voice heightened his feeling of guilt. "I'm really trying, I am."

"I trust you, my dear," separating from her nephew, she looked at him with an encouraging smile. "Just remember we're always here for you," ruffling his hair again, she hugged him before sighing. "Now go and change, I'll take care of your dishes. Are you sure you'll have time to accompany your uncle for groceries before helping me with dinner?"

Shirou nodded, feeling a bit better.

"Thanks, Aunt May," he said, finishing his food and drink in record time. "Of course, after all, I'm the older brother!"

The older woman rolled her eyes, expecting that typical response.

"I know you can do it," she laughed before hurrying him to his room. "Remember we have a very special guest," she winked, conveying her intentions. "So it's up to us to show her what Parker's kitchen is capable of, don't you think?"

"You bet!" At that moment, all traces of negativity vanished, and he even jumped up the stairs, completely animated. "I'll show you how much I've improved!"

- Skyline Tower -

Two Days Later

It was strange, but once again, he woke up from a nightmare with that lingering feeling of uncertainty and disgust coursing through his veins.

Placing his right hand over his chest, he felt his heart still trembling.

As was customary whenever he dreamt of swords amidst a desolate wasteland, a spiraling sense of weakness enveloped him. It was as if a series of traumas were being overwritten, leaving his mind with a multitude of unanswered questions.

At this point, there was no reason to regret his decision to believe in that promise because he didn't hold any resentment for his terrible fate... not yet.

That's why he found himself once more atop one of the tallest buildings in Queens, the Skyline Tower, appreciating the breathtaking view at dawn, gazing at the Manhattan skyline and the East River.

"I still don't understand how my hopes and desires can be fulfilled with this," he muttered, looking at what he held in his hands—a card with ancient engravings, strangely blurred and worn in the center.

Not wanting to recall how this had changed everything he knew about his reality, marking him forever, moments like these made the strange tattoo on his shoulder burn despite the pleasant weather.

"That strange old man said things that were still too ambiguous for me to remember clearly," he sighed, putting the card away. "But at least he assured me everything would become clearer as I pushed my limits," he felt a strange resonance in his chest, sensing his anger turning into some kind of fuel. "I wonder if that's even possible?"

Hearing the sound of police sirens near Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, he decided he still had time before school started.

"I can make it happen," an ironic smile formed as he leaped from the tall building. A dark, fragile-looking bow appeared in his hands, while an enigmatic crimson cloak with dark details enveloped his body.

"After all, I'm the only one who can do it!" He jumped through the air with great force, gaining speed from the impulse. "My destiny is now!"

As expected, we have reached the end of the chapter. It was a sea of emotions while writing it, so much so that I ended up drafting the next two chapters. We'll get to that in due time.

For now, I am truly satisfied with what we have achieved here. "Adapting to My New Life" began spontaneously, but I had planned a course that is starting to take shape, especially with the new movie coming out. Just wait and see. Meanwhile, what do you think about the secrets behind Shirou?
