(The next morning Mariska woke before Chris did, she showered, got dressed, and wrote him a letter. By the time he woke up, she was long gone and he was left with just the scent of her on his skin. He gets dressed walks out of the room and leaves the apartment heading to his car. As he gets closer he sees a white envelope with his name in her writing on it. He picks it up and tosses it in the car before he drives off and heads home.)

(It's been two days since Mariska has been home and she has been showered with nothing but hugs and love. She is set to start her residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and she was excited about it. She was in her room unpacking when Kelli busted through her door and jumped on her.)

Kelli: (kisses her cheek) Mariska oh my god I'm so glad your back.

Mariska: (grunts) Kelli get off of me I can't breath.

Kelli: I've missed you so so much and I have so much to tell you.

Mariska: (chuckle) OK but can you get off of me, please?

(Kelli finally climbs off her and sits on her bed giving her friend a once over.)

Kelli: Something is totally different about you.

Mariska: What?

Kelli: I can't put my finger on it but you're glowing.

Mariska: I'm just happy to be home.

Kelli: No that's not it.

Mariska: (rolls her eyes) So tell me what I missed?

Kelli: Well not much but things between Nate and I are becoming serious.

Mariska: Nate, the same Nate that you caught kissing his coworker?

Kelli: He didn't kiss her she kissed him.

Mariska: Yeah and my name is Mary. So how serious is it anyway?

Kelli: Serious enough that he asked me to move in with him.

Mariska: (eyes bulge out of her head) No way?

Kelli: Yes and I'm considering it.

Mariska: Well I guess you know when you know.

(She moves around her room putting things away.)

Kelli: So how long are you staying g here with your parents?

Mariska: I don't know, maybe until I finish my residency. I only have a year and a half left and then who knows maybe I'll move out of LA.

Kelli: Yeah right and go where?

Mariska: Maybe New York, I've always loved New York.

Kelli: That's all the way across the world.

Mariska: So!

(Kelli watches as she puts something in her drawer all the way to the back.)

Kelli: What's that you're hiding?

Mariska: Huh?

Kelli: You put something all the way to the back of your drawer what was it?

Mariska: Damn your nosey.

(Kelli gets up and moves towards her before she reaches in the draw taking it out.)

Kelli: On a little black box.

Mariska: Give it back.

(She opens the box and gasps at the beautiful necklace she saw.)

Kelli: Oh this is beautiful.

Mariska: Yeah now give it to me.

Kelli: (wiggles her eyebrows) Did Chris give this to you?

Mariska: Yes.

Kelli: Aww that man must really love you to give you a compass.

Mariska: We were just friends Kelli.

Kelli: Friends don't give friends gifts like this Marsh unless deep feelings are involved.

Mariska: (sigh) It's been two days and it's crazy how much I miss him already.

(Kelli moves to lie on her bed and she joins her.)

Kelli: Tell me about this Chris.

Mariska: I don't know it was different with him Kels. He never pushed me to be anything other than who I am. He's loving, gentle, caring, he's just a man you know what I mean.

Kelli: He rocked your world while you were down there, didn't he?

Mariska: (blush) The best sex I've ever had. Oh my god Kels I mean he knew all the right ways to touch me and what to say. His body is out of this world and when we...

Kelli: Made love.

Mariska: Had sex it was nothing like I've ever experienced. The way he would touch me and mmmm that man knows what he's doing.

Kelli: Awww my friend is in love.

Mariska: (pouts) I wasn't trying to fall in love with him but he just has this thing that makes it so hard not to.

Kelli: Will you two keep in touch?

Mariska: We have each other numbers and I texted him yesterday nothing.

Kelli: Maybe he's moved on.

Mariska: I don't know.

Kelli: Well Nate has a brother if you want to double date.

Mariska: (makes a face) No thank you.

(The day passed on and still no reply from Chris and it's making her think that maybe what they had wasn't what it was. Instead of dwelling on it, she decides to leave it where it is and focus on finishing school.)

(Back in Kenya, Chris's life wasn't any better and his co-workers were noticing the change. He barely smiled in the last two days and he snapped at a patient. When he gets home he eats, shows up, and goes to bed to repeat it all over again. It seemed like nothing was going to cheer him up and he just giving up on life. The next day his friend Mark came over because he called out of work.)

Chris: Hey what's up?

Mark: Nothing just checking on you.

Chris: Oh I'm good man just not feeling my best today.

Mark: To be honest with you, you haven't been yourself since your lady friend Mariska left. This mopping around wouldn't have anything to do with that, would it?

Chris: What makes you say that?

Mark: (smack his lips) Come on Chris you're really going to sit here and tell me that nothing happened between the two of you.

Chris: (sigh) It was different with her Mark. She made everything wrong in this world great and I fell deep.

(He tells Mark more about how he is feeling and knows he has to move on before it destroys him. So he dusted himself off and put it all behind him diving into his work and work only. The ring he brought a few months ago sits way back in his drawer. Maybe one day if the lord says the same and the universes cross again he will give it to her.)
