Chapter 24
No, you can't.
"Ok we are all going to stay nice and calm while I go back to the ship to pick up those snacks Rouge mentioned earlier. There will be no threatening, no upsetting anyone and please just don't wander off." Sonic said as he looked at all in the ARK's kitchen while standing in front of the entrance.
"There is a brown paper bag in the little compartment by the controls, the snacks are in there." Rouge said with a grin as she stood with Amy, Knuckles and Tails on one side of the kitchen while the Black Arms brothers stood on the other.
"I will be back and I better not return to fighting." Sonic said with a semi firm look at the brothers then dashed off.
"Why look at us when saying that?" Eclipse questioned as he glanced at Shadow, speaking in his own language.
"I do not know but should I give the Chaos Emerald to father now or wait a little?" Shadow replied in the same manner, not caring the friends were now giving them both suspicious looks.
"How about I distract them when Sonic gets back and you go to father with the Chaos Emerald. Tell him we are going to find out where the last one is then go get it." Eclipse suggested with an innocent look as he was also aware the friends were looking suspicious while they talk in their language.
"Mind not talking in a different language while we are here." Amy said with a deep frown as she glared at mostly Shadow.
"Did you hear something brother?" Shadow casually said as he gave Eclipse a calm expression.
"No, I didn't hear a thing brother." Eclipse replied with a shrug.
"Yes you both did!" Amy shouted as she was getting frustrated.
"Amy please calm down, you will get attacked if you upset them both." Rouge said with a small frown at the pink hedgehog.
"Or get pushed down a bunch of stairs." Knuckles grumbled as he slightly narrowed his eyes at Shadow.
"Are you still sore about that red creature? You lived didn't you, you didn't get hurt so what is the problem?" Shadow said with amusement as he and Eclipse looked at Knuckles, both grinning and both recalling that moment in their minds.
"That is not the damn point, you do not go around pushing people down a flight of stairs." Knuckles seriously said as he kept eyes on Shadow.
"Shouldn't get up in my face and start shouting at me or giving me such disrespect. You are lucky that was all I did and not outright killed you. Others have had far worse from me for talking to me in such a manner as you did." Shadow said with a shrug of indifference, not showing an ounce of regret for his actions up on Angel Island.
"Can we all just calm down please." Tails said and was starting to feel a little uncomfortable.
"Ok I am back and I am happy to see no fighting has broken out." Sonic returned holding a brown paper bag, walking over to the brothers to give them what he had.
"Enjoy the snack while me and the guys talk about what we are going to do next ok." Sonic added as he passed the bag over to Shadow with a smile then walked over to his friends.
Shadow opened the bag and tilted his head as he took out six energy bars, wondering what the hell they were. Eclipse was also looking a little curious and confused as well for they had never come across food that looked like this before. If they has then they never knew it was some kind of food to eat. Shadow passed three to his brother and dropped the empty bag onto the floor. They both gave a bar an inspection with eyes and sniffing it.
"Doesn't smell like food, it smells like nothing edible." Shadow commented as he deeply frowned while holding one in his hand and the other two in the other.
"I think the food is inside the container perhaps?" Eclipse said with a puzzled look at the bars he held…
"Ok, here's the plan. We need some information on where the Chaos Emeralds are being kept and I think those two know where they are." Sonic said in a quiet voice as he stood close to his friends away from the brothers.
"Not only that but we need to find a way to stop their father from destroying the world, we need to find weaknesses." Tails said in the same quiet voice.
"So we interrogating them before going to that comet?" Rouge asked with a grin at Sonic while also keeping her voice down.
"I say we whack them both and tie them up before we question them in separate rooms." Amy muttered with a deep frown…
"Looks very strange huh." Eclipse said as he and Shadow were now sitting on the floor together and both had managed to open a bar each.
"It smells very unusual too, what kind of food is this?" Shadow commented with an unsure look.
"Not sure, take a bit in three yeah?" Eclipse said as he moved eyes to look at his brother.
Shadow nodded then after counting, both bit into the bar. Their eyes widened and both spat what they had in their mouths out.
"That is repulsive!" Shadow said as he threw the bar he held, it hitting the wall opposite them both.
"That is not food." Eclipse said while dropping the bar onto the floor in front of them both.
"That is all we have boys, unless you both want to go down to the planet and find a store that sells other things." Rouge said as she and her friends walked over and stop near the brothers.
"Not allowed to leave this place until father tells us to." Eclipse said with a small frown and was looking disappointed the food they were given was disgusting.
"Keep them distracted brother, I need to give this Chaos Emerald to father." Shadow said inside of his brothers mind as he and Eclipse stood up.
"Sure thing but you might want to be quick." Eclipse replied in the same fashion, he and Shadow were now standing and looking at the friends in front of them.
"I say we kill the pink one." Eclipse seriously said then went for Amy, having Knuckles quickly grab him and hold him back.
"Eclipse we are not allowing you to eat Amy." Sonic said as he and his friends were distracted and keeping eyes on Eclipse being restrained by Knuckle.
"Go brother, and be quick." Eclipse spoke to Shadow then Shadow vanished back home without anyone knowing.
Shadow appeared where his father and Black Death were aboard his home. They both looked at him and Doom was looking very angry to see his hedgehog son here.
"I told you to stay aboard the ARK." Doom said with anger as he glared down at Shadow.
"I apologise father but I have very good reason for disobeying your orders." Shadow calmly said as he slowly reached out and put a hand within his quills.
"And what reason caused you to…" Doom growled then went quiet as he watched Shadow pull a Chaos Emerald out of his quills.
"That blue hedgehog lives. He and a few others appeared up on ARK. He had this so I took it without him knowing. I felt you should have it before he realised I took it and gets it back." Shadow calmly explains as he holds the emerald up while slightly bowing his head.
"Are they still there?" Doom asked as he took the emerald from Shadow and inspected it to make sure it was not another fake.
"They are yes and I am sure they know where the last emerald is located." Shadow replied as he lifted his head up and watched his father give that emerald a good inspection.
"It is real and not a fake. Well done Shadow. I want you to return to your brother and see if you can find out where the last emerald is. When you do I want you both to go get it. I do not want you both to return until you have that last emerald." Doom seriously said as he looked at his son with a firm look in all three eyes.
"You both fail me then consider you both dead. This is both your absolutely last chance so do not come back empty-handed unless you want death." Doom firmly said and was looking very serious at his hedgehog son.
"Yes father, of course." Shadow bowed his head then vanished back to the ARK, no one noticed he had left.
"You being serious, you will kill them both?" Black Death asked and wasn't sure if Doom meant that or not for he had felt conflicting feelings with Doom about ending the lives of Shadow and Eclipse.
"I mean it this time, they are both becoming quite troublesome. They are becoming a liability to me and my cause. I can always make someone more obedient that has less freewill then those two." Black Doom seriously said as he moved eyes to look at his next in command…
"I am back and father wants us to find out where the last emerald is then go get it. We are to not return to him without it or he will end our lives. I got the impression he was being deadly serious brother, we absolutely cannot fail him this time." Shadow spoke to his brother and watched Eclipse slowly stop trying to get to Amy.
"Then we get that emerald if we wish to continue our lives." Eclipse replied in the same manner while being still within Knuckles' hold.
"Congratulations, you all get your wish. She isn't worth my time anyway and probably tastes repulsive." Eclipse said as he gave Amy a harsh glare.
"Yeah well, back at you." Amy muttered quietly to herself and was glad Eclipse was no longer trying to get at her.
"Thanks for the help Shads, you could have stepped in at any time you know." Sonic said as he watched Eclipse being released from Knuckles.
"Why would I? I hate her and want her dead." Shadow casually said with a shrug while crossing his arms and looking amused while watching Sonic turn to look at him.
"Bite your tongue ok Amy, try not to retaliate to that." Tails said as he can see Amy was getting vexed and ready to burst with anger for what Shadow had said.
"You know what, lets just move on." Sonic said with a shake of his head and should have know that was why Shadow didn't intervene.
Of course he was not aware of the true reason Shadow didn't stop his brother for he didn't know Shadow left for a couple of minutes.
"Since you both are not allowed to leave this place I say we have nothing to worry about while we go to that comet." Amy said with a grin at the brothers, Eclipse now standing next to Shadow once more.
"I say just she goes and the rest of you stay." Eclipse said with a devious grin, knowing what will happen to Amy after being up there for a couple of minutes.
"Oh yes, the pink annoyance should go alone. It will be very safe for her and nothing will happen." Shadow said with a devious look at Amy, also knowing what will happen.
"What will happen if we go up there?" Sonic asked and was not looking impressed as he kept eyes on the brothers.
"Nothing." Eclipse chuckled a little evilly as he looked at Amy, who was starting to look a little nervous.
"Clearly we will be swamped by their brethren." Knuckles said with a small frown and knew this will be the case.
"Most are not home and on the planet causing havoc still but you wouldn't be wrong. There are still a couple of hundred at the ready to defend our home from intruders all over." Shadow casually said with a smirk, telling all that wont be their only problem when up there.
"Which indicates there is something you both are not sharing." Rouge said and had a feeling they had some kind of secret weapon up there that will end them all.
"Whatever it is, it wont stop us from going up there." Sonic said with a grin as he watched Shadow frown and not like the sound of him going up there.
"I would advise you do not." Shadow said with a deep frown as he and Sonic locked eyes, Shadow looking a little fearful of Sonic being up on his home.
"I guess I am far too stupid to take your advice Shads. I am going up there and you cannot stop me without seriously upsetting me. Besides the emeralds are up there and I need them." Sonic replied as his grin widened a little, deciding to see if the emeralds are up there and trick Shadow into confirming or not.
"So what if the emeralds are up there, leave them be. You will end up paralysed and eaten, please do not go up there. I do not want that to happen to you, them I couldn't care about but you, I can't have you face such a fate." Shadow said as more fear was displayed on his features and eyes begging for Sonic to stay away, he was unaware he just confirmed where the emeralds were being kept.
"So the Chaos Emeralds are up there." Sonic thought as he kept eyes locked on Shadows scared ones.
"Paralysed?" Tails questioned and was looking a little puzzled how they will end up like that.
"Our home naturally reproduces a special gas that can paralyse anyone who isn't immune to it, which is pretty much everyone who lives on a planet. It takes a matter of minutes to get into your system and will work fast in immobilising your movements. Once it has fully effected you, you cannot move your body and you will end up becoming a tasty meal for our brothers. Father can make it so the gas will spread to any part of the comet, he can also clear an area of the gas as well. I wouldn't be surprised if every inch of the comet is covered with it, we do not want the enemy to board our home and attack after all." Eclipse explained with a small frown.
"Right so best to not go up there then." Knuckles said with a frown of his own and did not want to be frozen then eaten slowly while still alive.
"Wait, that means those who went up there are in huge trouble or worse, dead." Rouge said with wide eyes as she realised this.
"Others went up there?" Eclipse questioned with a grin and knew those who did will be dead now.
"How do we get passed the gas?" Sonic asked with a serious look and did not want to end up like those GUN soldiers who he assumed were being devoured as they stood here talking, knowing there wasn't anything they can do for them and it angered him a little.
"Don't breath." Eclipse grinned, knowing not many can hold their breath for a long time and will result in gasping for air and end up breathing in the gas.
"I have a solution. Masks that filter the air so anything harmful wont enter our system." Rouge said with a grin and knew a trip to GUN's base to pick up special breathing masks will sort this issue out.
"You do that, it wont stop anything for those masks can be knocked off and broken." Shadow said as he looked at Rouge with an unimpressed look at her idea.
"Then we will bring spares with us." Amy said with a devious grin and crossing her arms while looking at Shadow smugly, who seemed to be ignoring her which she did not notice.
"Please just don't go up there Sonic, I do not want you to die ok." Shadow said as he begged Sonic to stay away, knowing he wont be able to do anything to help Sonic if the worse should happen.
"I am not going to die Shadow." Sonic said and honestly believed this.
"Yes you will!" Shadow shouted as fear of losing Sonic for good was filling his being and panic was taking hold of him.
"Everyone who ends up there dies, you will be no different." Eclipse said as he could feel Shadow starting to panic and knew their father will sense this soon if Shadow did not calm down.
"Alright, we wont go up there." Sonic said as he could see Shadow was getting very upset with him leaving for the Black Comet and knew a certain someone will appear if Shadow got too emotional.
"We should get back to GUN's base, tell them about the gas so they do not send more soldiers up there to die a horrible death." Rouge said and hoped they can warn the commander in time before he did send more of his men up there.
"Yeah we should." Knuckles said and was looking a little disappointed with not going to the comet to kick alien ass yet at the same time very thankful to find out about that gas.
"I suppose we will see you both around." Sonic said and was glad to see Shadow was looking more calm and less panicked now.
"I am sure you all will, we do have Chaos Emeralds to go collect after all." Shadow said with a grin at Sonic.
"Yeah, good luck with that Shads." Sonic said with a wink and knew the brothers will not be getting their hands on any more.
Shadow and Eclipse watched the friends walk towards the entrance. They exchanged looks then silently began to follow them.
"We should actually go check on the emerald in my lab, make sure it hasn't been ransacked by those aliens and taken back to Black Doom." Tails said once they were away from the kitchen and the brothers couldn't hear them, unaware they were following them.
"That is a very good idea, while you all warn Towers I will run back and check the place out, make sure the Chaos Emerald is still in that containment unit." Sonic said and hoped it was.
"So the final Chaos Emerald is back at your little hideout huh?" Shadow announced with amusement, he and Eclipse stopped walking and both watching the heroes stop and turn to face them both.
"Don't you even dare go get it." Sonic firmly said with slight narrowed eyes at the brothers.
"What do you mean final emerald, don't you need to go find two?" Tails asked and hoped the brothers didn't know about the emerald they had with them.
"You should check your quills Sonic." Shadow smirked deviously as he locked eye with Sonic, watching Sonic frown and indeed check.
"You took the emerald." Sonic said with shock and some fear as the emerald he had was gone.
"Father has it and now he will get the final one." Eclipse said with a smug look then his wrist was taken by Shadow.
"See you later." Shadow said with a wink.
"Oh I do not think so." Sonic dashed forward, grabbed Shadow and vanished with the brothers.
"We need to get back and warn Towers of that gas, Sonic can take care of those two and stop them from getting that Chaos Emerald." Rouge seriously said then they all rushed back to the GUN ship in the ARK's docking bay…

Not sure how I want this story to end, it is almost finished now. I would predict maybe five-eight chapters left to go, might be more or less depending on what ending I end up doing.
