(It's now January 19th and Mariska is packed on her way to the airport. Her parents decided to bring her to see her off and to make sure that she knew the dangers there. She's on the phone texting Kelli with one earbud in as she listens to her stepmom.)

Shelley: Mariska do you hear me?

Mariska: Yes Mom, you have said it ten times since Christmas and I promise that I will be careful.

Shelley: Don't sass me, Marsha.

Mariska: Mom I'm not, I will be 23 in eight months I'm not a child anymore. I think I've been living long enough to take everything you and Dad say to heart.

Shelley: Good, I'm just going to miss you. You're my baby girl and I just want what's best for you and to protect you from all evil.

Mike: Shelley she's a smart girl, she will be fine just don't bring any boy home.

Mariska: Dad.

Shelley: I agree, that last one was..

Mike: Don't get me started on him.

Mariska: Oh god.

(She laughs out loud after reading a message from Kelli.)

Shelley: Are you listening, get off that phone.

Mariska: I hear you both and I promise to not come back married or pregnant.

Mike: Great, now we want you to have fun and focus on your work.

Mariska: I will.

(Mike pulls up to the airport and gets out to go get her things from the trunk. She gets out and is pulled into a tight hug from her stepmom.)

Shelley: (kiss her head) I can't believe I'm not going to see you for six months.

Mariska: I'm going to miss you too Mom.

Mike: Alright Shell don't hog her. Come here baby girl and hug your old man before you leave us for six months.

(By the time she walks into his arms, tears are streaming down her face. He envelops her to him and hugs her tight before kissing her forehead.)

Mariska: I love you daddy.

Mike: I love you more honey, call us when you land I don't care about the cost. Now go before you miss your flight and don't talk to strangers.

Mariska: They're all strangers Dad.

Shelley: (holds her chest) Oh god don't say that.

Mariska: See you in six months guys and try to do something with yourselves.

(She grabs her things and makes her way to her gate as she looks back again and away. She spotted her classmates and was relieved that she wasn't going to be alone. Once on the plane, she texted her parents to let them know she was about to take off before turning off her cell. She relaxed and closed her eyes for this long flight ahead.)

(Back in Kenya, Chris was running back and forth from patient to patient and only had three hours of sleep. His relationship with Rachel was souring and they were fighting more now. He knows he has an early meeting in the morning to welcome the new pediatric residencies. He was excited about that because it would bring more help but also new eyes. He was on a break when his good friend Sean walked up to him with a goofy grin on his face.)

Chris: What are you smiling so hard for?

Sean: We get new interns tomorrow why are you not as excited as I am?

Chris: I am happy, I just hope they all work out because we can really use the extra help.

Sean: I can't wait to see what hotties will be here.

Chris: Must you always be a dog man?

Sean: (rubs hands together) Maybe you should do the same, Rachel has become such a dud. She's young but the way she has no potential I mean nothing going for herself. I'm telling you she's a gold digger and only with you because of the money. I figured someone had to say it bro she's draining you dry. But I need to get back to a patient I'll catch you later.

(Chris stands there and thinks about what his friend just said. At noon, he was in his office going over patients' files when Rachel knocked and let herself in.)

Chris: Hey.

Rachel: Will you be coming home tonight?

Chris: Umm I'm trying to but depends on how the rest of the day goes, I could be a little late.

Rachel: (sigh) When will you see that this job is tearing us apart? You never have time for me anymore, hell I quit my job back home to come here with you.

Chris: It's not like I forced you to Rach.

Rachel: I did it because I love you and want to be with you.

Chris: I get that but you know how much I love my job. You knew that before you decided to pack your life up and join me. I love you too and I want this to work, I want to marry you one day and who knows, maybe have a family of our own.

Rachel: I don't want to live here anymore Chris. I miss my family, you might be ok with that but I'm not.

Chris: Look bae, can we talk about this once I get home tonight? The quicker I get these done the quicker I will be home and spend some time with you.

Rachel: (smirks) You know what fine, I wouldn't want to cause any trouble in your place of business.

Chris: Please don't be like that. I promise I will make it up to you as soon as I'm home.

Rachel: OK, I'll leave it for now, see you later.

Chris: Later, I love you.

Rachel: Yeah, me too.

(After she walks out he tosses his pen down and puts his head in his hands. He loves Rachel and she has been good to him but something has changed. He's barely home and she's become distant and complains every day about his job. By midnight he makes it home to a dark house and Rachel in bed. Instead of waking her and maybe starting another fight he showers downstairs and sleeps in the guest room.)
