(It was noon in Kenya when Mariska finally made it there. She was jet-lagged and irritable when it came time to meet the doctors at the CM Shah Clinic. She called her father to let him know she made it and her stepmom almost had a panic attack. She was sitting in a conference room waiting for Doctor Meloni while everyone else got acquainted. She was looking through her phone when she felt like someone was watching her. She looks up and sees this guy walking her way with a goofy grin on his face.)

Sean: Hello I'm Sean.

Mariska: Hi I'm Mariska.

Sean: Nice to meet you, Mariska.

(She goes back to what she was doing feeling a little uncomfortable with him just standing there.)

Mariska: Hey do you know how long this meeting will last?

Sean: Maybe an hour or less. We are just waiting for Chris to come so he can discuss some things and put you all with whom er you will be shadowing.

Mariska: OK great thanks.

Sean: One more thing, I was wondering if maybe after this we could maybe go get something to eat?

Mariska: Ummm I don't know, I don't know you and I'm pretty tired so I think I will head back to the apartment.

Sean: OK cool, maybe some other time.

Mariska: Yeah sure.

(She gives him her best genuine smile before looking back at he phone praying Kelli messages her. After about five more minutes and tall, built man walks through the door with the more beautiful blue eyes.)

Chris: Sorry to have kept you all waiting, I'm sure you all just want to head back and sleep off the jetlag.

(They all agree.)

Sean: Bey Chris I think we will have a pretty interesting crew this time.

Chris: Yeah nice bunch. So I want to start this off by everyone introducing themselves. I'll go first, my name is Chris Meloni, Dr. Meloni and I've been here for five years now. Best thing I could have ever done and I have no regrets.

(He motioned for the next person to go.)

Bret: I'm Bret and I'm in my last year of residency I'm looking forward to helping in any way that I can.

Amy: I'm Amy and this is my second-year residency I'm just here so I can finish and get out to do my own thing.

Jeff: I'm Jeff and this is my first year, I'm a bit nervous because I'm in another country but so far it's been cool.

Roxy: Hi I'm Roxy and I'm just happy to be here.

Daniel: What's up I'm Danny, this is my second year but first here in Kenya and I'm not only here to learn but to hopefully make new friends.

(Everyone laughs at that. Then Chris turned his attention to Mariska and had to calm himself a bit. He noticed her when he first came in and instantly felt some kind of connection towards her.)

Chris: OK and lastly.

Marisa: Hi, I'm Mariska, this is my first year of residency and I'm excited to be here. I've always wanted to help and give back to the less fortunate. I can't wait to see what I can learn and who knows, might open up my own clinic.

Sean: (claps) Well said.

Chris: (gives him a look) OK that was great everyone, now I'm going to pair you all with the person you're going to shadow.

Amy: Can I shadow you, Dr. Meloni?

(Mariska chuckled as she watched how desperate she looked.)

Chris: Um actually you and Daniel will be with Sean he gets all the second-year residency students. Rachel here will have Bret and Roxy because this is their last year. And I will have the honor of having Jeff and Mariska, is it?

(He looks at her.)

Mariska: Yes, or if that's too complicated for you, you can call me Marsha.

Chris: (smirks) I think I have it Mariska. You two will be with me because this is your first year here and I need to make sure you have the basics first.

Jeff: Great, now that we have that out of the way, where can I get a good burger, I'm starving.

Daniel: Hey I second that

Amy: Hey I'm down.

(Everyone agrees to this gathering but Mariska keeps quiet.)

Roxy: Mariska you joining us?

Mariska: Umm no, I need to get back to my room and unpack, I'll get something later.

Amy: Come on don't be a prune.

Mariska: (gives her a look) I'm not, I'd rather go get myself settled and some rest before tomorrow.

Amy: Whatever, well everyone else let's meet out front then we can all go.

(Everyone started collecting thief things before saying goodbyes. Mariska stays behind to talk to Dr. Meloni for a few minutes before leaving.)

Chris: Why didn't you want to go with the group?

Mariska: Do I really need a reason why I decided to get some rest instead of going out?

Chris: No, I guess not.

Mariska: Can I ask you something?

Chris: Sure.

Mariska: Is it true that there is a shortage of medicine here?

Chris: Where did you hear that?

Mariska: I have my resources.

Chris: Umm yes we are low on a few. Input an order a month ago and nothing, it usually doesn't take this long.

Mariska: I might be able to help with that.

Chris: Oh yeah?

Mariska: Mmhmm, I hate to see any child suffer because there's no medicine. I'll make some calls tonight to a good friend of mine and I'll let you know tomorrow.

Chris: OK, thank you, Mariska. I think you would. make a great fit here, I'll see you bright and early tomorrow morning.

Mariska: Good evening Dr. Meloni.

(She grabs her bag and heads out the door to the car waiting for her. She makes it back to her apartment and calls her parents to let them know she's back at the apartment. Later that night she ordered some food and called Kelli to tell her about her first day in Kenya.)
