Part 2

Thanatos raised the alarm.

"They are destroying the souls of Hecate's Newbloods," he announced as soon as the others answered his call.

None of the new arrivals needed clarification as to who 'they' were – the magicals of the Western Isles.

Atropos, the crone of the Moirai, spoke next. "They are interfering with the tapestry of life. It grows weak in places and will soon tear if nothing is done."

"As always, the Moirai speak true," Gaia stated. "They set their abominations to attack the Newbloods and non-magicals. Soon the abominations will attack outside of the Western Isles."

"And then?" Thanatos asked, looking to Chronos, keeper of time.

"I can see the past," Chronos said. "But the future is always reforming. As of this point in the timeline, there is a high probability they with lose control of the abominations and all ensouled beings will be destroyed."

"The more souls the abominations take, the larger their numbers grow," Hecate explained softly although her expression was thunderous. "And those of the Western Isles have convinced everyone else that the only weapon against the abominations is a skill few possess and fewer can use effectively."

"Will Gaia survive without the ensouled?" Thanatos asked quietly.

Chronos shook his head. "When the non-magicals realize they are under attack, they will lash out with all the weapons they have. And their weapons are formidable. Life itself will not survive the worst case scenario. Without life, there can be no Magic. Without life, there can be no fate. Without life, even Death is out of a job."

"What can we do?" Hecate asked.

"Aside from Riddle losing his next battle against a virtually untrained child and saner minds regaining control of the Wizangamot and undoing all the damage Albus Dumbledore's edicts against old and ritual magic has done to Magical society in the Western Isles over the past fifty years?" Chronos asked. It was a rhetorical question. He shared the despair his companions felt. The chances of saner minds overcoming the brain washing of multiple generations was slim to none.

"Can Trinity do something? After all, most of the anti-Magical fear comes from their followers," Thanatos wondered aloud.

Hecate shook her head. "They stopped responding to their own followers when they started believing what their worshipers told them. There will be no help there."

"Can we use Time to undo this?" Gaia asked.

Again Chronos shook his head. "Without Trinity's assistance to undo the fear of Magic among their worshipers, any changes made to the current timeline would likely make things worse."

"How can any of this be worse?" Hecate asked.

"Grindelwald and his allies could win," a new voice said. The other looked over to see Hades standing in their midst, his dark cloak billowing in a non-existent breeze. His presence was a surprise. He rarely left his own domain claiming that the mortal realms did not need his input since he 'only' dealt with souls that had already been found wanting.

"Grindelwald did not use abominations," Gaia reminded them.

"He did not," Hades agreed. "But he and his allies wanted to enslave the whole of humanity. In time, his allies would have turned against him for there can only be one emperor of Earth. And those allies would have used the abominations. And the slaves would have risen up against all of them even if it meant the destruction of everything." He glanced at Chronos who nodded his head in agreement.

"The timeline has been 'adjusted' at least once to prevent Grindelwald's ascension and Gaia's destruction," Chronos admitted. "Dumbledore was 'convinced' to break his association with Grindelwald and actively work against him."

"Albus Dumbledore had a deep fear and hatred of non-magicals and Newbloods," Hecate pointed out. "Using Magic to convince him otherwise would have had him bury that hatred under a mask and moved him to seek power to ban the magics he suspected had been used on him."

Chronos sighed. "He did gain extraordinary power over the magicals of the Western Isles so that he could enact legislation to make sure Newbloods and their progeny would always be second class citizens. And he has prevented all but a select few from having the knowledge needed to defeat the weapon that he himself created."

"So what do we do?" Gaia asked. "We cannot use Time to fix this and I feel we are running out of time."

"The abomination that was Tom Riddle will end at the time decreed by the Ladies Fate," Thanatos promised. "Saving the Newbloods and redeeming Magic will be up to you," he added as he faded from view.
