Hey guys, thanks for checking in on another chapter, in this chapter I will be experimenting on the so called DTS (Netflix f1 fans will understand what I mean by that) style of writing, so let me know if you like or dislike this way of writing in the reviews. Note I am not going to use this style every chapter that is for sure. How much I use it depends on how much you guys like or dislike it. Enjoy 5 race weekends!
Chapter 6, the prancing horses.
'Scuderia Ferrari is the most famous team on the grid. Being involved with the famous red team is everyone's dream. If you get to be one of the few lucky ones, there are a lot of people looking up to you. It's a lot of pressure, but also a lot of fun.' Danny said, sat in a room with a black background, a bright light shining in his face. In front of him an interviewer with a few cameras around for dramatic effect.
'Did you get nervous when the driver replacing your rival was actually quite fast?' The interviewer asked.
'I can't say I was surprised; we've seen him race in DF2. It would've been a lot more fun for me if he wasn't as fast though.' Danny joked. 'I wasn't nervous, after losing the championship to other teams and drivers so many times I had a nothing to lose mentally.'
Australia
'Welcome everyone to the Australian Grand Prix, a very exciting weekend as three DF categories all race within a one weekend span! A lot of racing action arriving here, in Melbourne.' Crofty reported.
'My name is Zuma and I drive in DF3 for campos racing.' Zuma told the interviewer. 'Watching Marshall and Chase has always been incredible for me; I have always looked up to them. Now, I am creating my own career, and I hope to one day race on the same grid as they do.'
'How is it to race in DF3 whilst they race in the top league?'
'It's different for sure, but I have to focus on myself. I see them more when I'm racing which means I get great advice from great drivers. But again, I'm driving my own career, it's up to me to find success.' Zuma explained.
'We have a very exciting qualifying coming up, who will stand on top today?' A commentator said.
'Zuma's start to DF3 has not been what he or the fans expected. When you look at the junior careers of Marshall and Chase for example, even when they weren't winning, they showed great promise in every race. With Zuma, people doubt if he has the same fighting spirit and mindset as his friends do.' Will Buxton said.
'Zuma comes across the line, it's p6 for him.'
'In DF1, you can hide behind your car. You can easily say it's the car's fault, but in junior categories, it's not that easy to say. The cars performance is on the same spec, only the amount of engine failures can set your car apart from others. So, when you don't perform well or show that what sets the future of DF1 apart from the DF3 drivers, you might have to rethink your future.' Jennie Gow explained.
'I think people really want a story; I've only just started. I have a lot to prove, but I'm not worried I can't drive.' Zuma said.
'How is it for you to have Zuma race in DF3 on the same weekend?' The interviewer asked Chase.
'It's fun for me personally, watching him drive is a good reminder of where I and Marshall once were in our careers. It's fun getting to be some kind of a mentor, even though I myself still have to make a name for myself in the sport.' Chase explained.
'It doesn't distract you from your driving?'
'No, when you are at this level, you know when to switch from relaxed to focused. The sport is dangerous enough when you are fully focused, let alone when you can't focus.' Chase said.
Qualifying
'Welcome to qualifying for the DF1 Melbourne Grand Prix, this third race of the season promises to create some exciting racing as Red-Bull and Ferrari will fight once again, who will take pole position today?' Crofty said with excitement.
'This is only your second season in DF1, do you think you can win the world championship this early on in your career?' The interviewer asked Marshall.
'I'm going to give it everything I'm sure, the team is in a good place, teammate is doing well himself. I'm gonna do everything I can to keep the winning streak for the team.' Marshall said.
'It's going to get wild here now as we go into the final part of qualifying. Rocco is actually in p1 as it stands with his teammate Danny behind him in second, the Red-Bull drivers not far behind!'
'My name is Rocco and I drive for Scuderia Ferrari.' Rocco said to the interviewer. 'People don't tend to look at me in a positive way a lot of the time. They say I only have this seat because of my Italian background. It's funny to me how these people watch the numbers so closely, but when I'm at the front of the field they turn a blind eye.'
'Do you think you can win the championship this season?'
'The seasons is long, I know what I can do, it's mostly up to the team whether I get the chance.' Rocco said.
'Can Danny beat the bar set by his teammate in his final qualifying lap? YES, HE CAN! Danny on provisional pole, now it's up to the Red-Bull drivers! Chase comes across the line, he's very close but can't beat Rocco's time. Now it's all about what Marshall can do, can he take a third pole in a row? No, he can't! Danny takes his first pole position of the year!' A commentator exclaimed
'That is P1 my friend!' Danny's engineer revealed.
'Let's goooo! That was a long time coming, great job team, let's show them tomorrow!'
'When Ferrari gets any chance to celebrate you better clear the streets, because they will celebrate like only Ferrari fans can!' Crofty said.
DF3 race
'There is Zuma passing a car in the DF3 race, after spinning in the sprint he has a lot to prove to everyone.' A commentator said.
'And there he goes, Zuma for another move in this race. People told him he doesn't belong here after the sprint, and he took that personally!' A second commentator said in excitement.
'Zuma comes home, p2 in the race, that is a great result for him.' Another commentator called out.
'That race was really important, it showed everyone I did have something, gave me some more time to improve.' Zuma explained. 'And it was a very good looking trophy as well.'
The DF1 race
'How does p2 in qualifying feel?' The interviewer asked.
'It's not the best feeling, but from p2 at least you have a good shot, at some tracks you are even in the advantage when in p2, so it's all to play for.' Marshall answered
'Your starting position is very crucial in DF1, the higher your position, the higher your chances of a points finish.' Will Buxton said. 'Your start can be the difference between victory and, no victory.'
'We are moments away from the start of the Australian Grand Prix here in Melbourne, I can't wait for the action to begin.' Crofty said.
'When the formation lap ends, and you line up on the grid, everything fades away. The crowd, the music, the chaos. Everything that is not of use to your goal, disappears. Suddenly, you are on your own, just you and the car. "This is when I need to perform, this is where the rumors stop", pure racing." Danny said.
'And it's lights out and away we go in Melbourne!' Crofty exclaimed.
'It's Marshall, he's slow of the line!' Martin Brundle yelled.
'Very slow indeed martin, he's all the way down in 12th!' Crofty reported.
'You can have a lightning-fast reaction, you can be fastest off the line, but when your tires are hot, it will get you nowhere.' Will explained.
'When that happens, you do have to reset. Your goals for the race become different, going from winning to limiting the damage. It's very annoying, but it's part of the game.' Marshall said.
'Okay Marshall, head down, it's a long race.' Cole, Marshall's race engineer said through the communications.
'Sometimes, races like this are fun, no leading or chasing one driver for 30 laps. Overtaking a lot and timing of strategies really matters now. It can be good fun, but when you are trying to win the world championship, it doesn't feel as awesome.' Marshall explained.
'Marshall is on the move again, he brakes VERY late, but it pays off! Marshall has passed another driver and looking towards a decent finish considering the circumstances.' Martin Brundle reported.
'Marshall is not done yet! With a few laps to go, he has a chance to make it onto the podium. That is if he manages to get past Rocco.' Crofty said.
'I'm not a bad driver, whatever those people may say. I am in Ferrari for a reason. I mean look at Vito, the dog driving for Alfa Romeo. He's Italian too but they didn't bring him to Ferrari.' Rocco said to the camera.
'And Marshall passes the Ferrari driver with ease, if he can bring this over the line, the podium is his!' Crofty reported with excitement.
'Danny WINS the Australian Grand Prix, Chase comes home second, and Marshall has managed to fight his way back to p3 after a horrible start.' Crofty reported happily. 'This is going to be a fun championship.
'Finished third. It's not where I want and need to be though. I'm happy that I can be on the podium, because I know that is not given to everyone on this grid. I'm in a different fight though, I need to be grabbing those wins.' Marshall said.
Race debrief
'Marshall, any thoughts on the start of the race?' A head engineer asked Marshall.
'Well, everyone did everything right, tires just got too hot. I know there are a lot of issues to fix behind the scenes still. When nothing goes wrong with the car we have the best car, so if we get that under control we are well set.' Marshall responded.
'Okay thank you.' The engineer replied.
Two weeks later
'Hello ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Japanese grand prix here at the Suzuka circuit. Over the year this race has decided championships, let's see what impact this track has on our championship today!' Crofty revealed with excitement.
'My name is Miles, and I am the team principal of Red-Bull racing DF1 team.' Miles revealed to the interviewer of DTS. 'So far, the advantage seemed to switch between us and Ferrari every race. At some point, a team has to break free from that advantage switch, for the driver, and the whole team's sake.'
'Danny had an issue during qualifying and Rocco crashed which means the Ferrari drivers start 6th and 15th. Marshall is on pole position by a mile, Chase will start second, he was half a second behind Marshall. Starting p3 is Jackie from Alpine, and the surprise in fourth place, is Milo.' A commentator said.
'Milo has been seen as the future of DF1, he is young and outperforming that Mercedes car by a mile. He is the youngest on the grid as well. Mercedes may be a very bad team at the moment but give him the right circumstances and Milo will drop the jaws of the entire grid.' Will Buxton explained.
'And it's lights out and away we go!' Crofty said, announcing the start of the race.
'The only problem with very young drivers in a good position is, they are rookies, they are very vulnerable to make mistakes.' Will Buxton said.
'Milo gets an amazing start, he's already three wide with the Red-Bulls! Chase on the inside, Milo in the middle, Marshall on the outside!' Crofty said.
This can't go well into turn one.' Martin Brundle commented.
'The grid approaches turn one, who is going to come out in front?' Crofty said enthusiastically. Milo's POV shows both Red-Bull cars closing in, he slams on the brakes, but there was no room. 'And Marshall is spun off into the barriers, what a disaster for Red-Bull!' Crofty yelled.
'Are you okay Marshall?' Cole asked over the radio.
'Yeah, I'm okay, sorry about that.' Marshall said before getting out of the car.
'Every crash has impact, because when you crash, you are not earning any points.' Will Buxton said.
'The advantage is starting to slip into Ferrari's favor, which is really bad news for Red-Bull, and for Marshall. Red-Bull fans really have to hope that this crash doesn't have a negative impact on Marshall, but that he comes back stronger.' Jennie Gow explained.
'Danny comes from 6th to win the Japanese Grand Prix! Jackie gets her best ever result with second place, and Chase finishes third after a difficult race!' Crofty reported.
'This result is very difficult for Red-Bull. Chase might just be a rookie, but he's getting better results in than Marshall. Does the team have to pull a trigger to switch their focus?'
Two weeks later
'Shanghai is a very special track to me, it is very unique. You need a lot of patience in sector one, a lot of skill in sector 2, and a lot of speed in sector 3.' Marshall explained. 'Last year was a lot of fun, we took a penalty which meant we started from last place. We fought through to fourth place; it is the best race I got to drive so far.'
'He's not the only one who likes this track I'll tell you that. Some tracks just give you that vibe when you are driving through it, the elevation, the unique corners, the moments of just driving in a straight line with full power. It's a feeling of power, when you're in a good car at least.' Danny said.
'You can prepare for everything as a team, prepare good strategies, have the drivers focused and ready to go. And then suddenly, nature decides to crap all over your plans.' Miles explained. 'It does make for some very good racing though.'
'Welcome to the Chinese Grand Prix. The fans are ready, the teams are ready, and the drivers are ready for this very wet Chinese Grand Prix.' Crofty commentated.
'Danny is on pole position on this beautiful day, for a duck at least. His teammate Rocco is behind him for a Ferrari front row lockout. Marshall is third, and Chase is fifth.' Martin Brundle explained. 'The weather can make all the difference though; the race results are all to play for in the next 56 laps.'
'I have a lot to prove but wet weather can make the difference. For me, it could give me the advantage I needed to regain my focus.' Marshall explained.
'Life has been good to me the last few races, wet weather is a challenge, a fun challenge. Bring it on.' Danny said with confidence.
'And It's lights out and away we go for the Chinese grand prix. Marshall and Danny get an equal start, Danny leads into turn one.' Crofty yelled with excitement.
'There is chaos at the back!' Martin Brundle reported.
'Gomez has misjudged his braking point for the second time this season. He has tagged Bear in the Mercedes, both drivers now on the back foot for the rest of the race.' Crofty explained.
'Lights rain for at least 30 minutes, rain could get worse after that.' A race engineer with an Italian accent told Danny.
'Copy.' Danny responded.
'Danny has grown his lead to 3 seconds after ten laps, Marshall will have to respond soon if he wants to stay in the hunt for the race win.' Crofty reported.
'Rain is difficult in a DF1 car, these cars excel on grip, not having that means you are fighting the car through the corners, only the best drivers can stay on track.' Marshall explained. 'For me starting in the rain is always difficult because it's hard to predict the limit when it rains. After a while though, I start to get into a rhythm, I start to get a feel for the conditions. Thats where you pick up the pace, and you start to go faster.'
'After twenty minutes of struggling in these difficult conditions, Marshall is starting to pick up the pace. If he keeps this up, he is going to catch the Ferrari in a few laps, which means we have an exciting battle ahead of us!' Crofty said as he builds excitement.
'Rain is coming earlier than expected, we might have to box for full wets in the coming laps.' The Italian race engineer told Danny.
'Okay, just let me feel out the conditions, we box when we both know it's the right time.' Danny said, taking the lead knowing how Ferrari could be under pressure sometimes.
'The fact that Danny in all his years in the sport and all the experience that he has, has never led to a championship title is bizarre. We are talking about the best rookie in the history of DF1, the master of overtaking. He nearly won the championship in his first year in a midfield team. Yet, it's six years later now, and he still hasn't achieved what he was destined to.' Will Buxton said with disbelief.
'There is always some influence of luck in this sport, it just hasn't been on my side. I could give it everything on track, and then a pitstop, a lapped car or an issue would ruin it. I would be at least a two-time champion if I just had a little bit more luck, but that's racing.' Danny explained.
'Do you feel like luck is finally coming to your side now?' The interviewer asked.
Danny laughed and smiled. 'A driver in a good position is not going to say it is because of luck. I've been getting the results in so far, can't say that's a bad thing.' Danny answered.
'This battle has been a few laps coming, it's finally time ladies and gentlemen. Marshall is within five seconds of Danny.' Crofty said, clearly getting excited.
'Incredible pace from the dalmatian to catch up to the Ferrari.' Martin Brundle commented.
'Hold on though, the track is getting darker and a few drivers in the midfield are coming in. That can only mean one thing Martin, the heavier rain we were expecting is about to hit Shanghai!' Crofty said, standing up in excitement, staring at the screens.
'Okay Marshall, the heavy rain can arrive any second now, we are going to box box.' Cole reported through the radio.
'How wet are we talking?' Marshall asked.
'You should get your swimsuit out.' Cole joked.
'Ah, alright.' Marshall said, laughter could be heard from his voice. 'Boxing confirmed then.'
Everyone goes into the pitlane, only a few second drivers and drivers in lower teams risking to stay out one more lap. Marshall sees the Ferrari in front of him as he exists the pits.
'You are racing him. I repeat, you are racing him. Let's get stuck in.' Cole said.
'The rain is coming down now here in China. It doesn't rain here often but when it rains, it pours.' Crofty said with excitement.
'I don't know if the race will be able to continue like what the weather map shows is about to hit the circuit.' Martin commented. 'If so, Marshall will have to hurry.'
Marshall is now only a second and a half away from Danny who is struggling in the conditions. Very quickly water starts to build up on the circuit, the spray coming off the Ferrari intensifying.
'Drivers in the midfield say the conditions are too bad, what are your thoughts?' Cole asked.
'Aghh I want to overtake this guy, but they are right, this is way too dangerous.' Marshall responded frustratedly, shaking his head.
'Copy.' Cole responded. 'Be careful until the FIA makes a decision.'
Marshall decided to continue to push, he was so close now to getting back on track.
'Red flag, red flag, session stopped Marshall. Drivers were going off track.' Cole reported.
'Yeah, I was getting blinded out there, agh frustrating.' Marshall said.
'Session will not be resumed; we got enough laps in to get half distance points.' Cole said.
'Copy.' Marshall said. 'We gave it everything today team, we are getting closer. Let's show them.'
Miami Grand Prix
'Lap 51, the time when you think the race is over, that's where the race begins! Danny is lining up a move on Marshall as we speak!' Martin said.
'He's got a good run out of the final corner. DANNY side by side with his title rival, he's past into p1!' Crofty reported
'Tires are finished.' Marshall said.
'Okay, box box.' Cole responded.
'How has your life been after Saudi Arabia?' The interviewer asked.
'I wouldn't say it's been the best few months I've ever had. We are not looking good here. Danny's running away with the championship, there is a lot to be done.' Marshall answered.
'Would you say it's over?'
'Never, a championship is 't over until we cross the finish line in Abu Dhabi.' Marshall responded.
Emilia Romagna Grand Prix
'Alright everyone, welcome to Italy. After Canada in a few weeks the schedule will finally balance out so it will be just a little easier on you guys. Note that the breaks between races will also shorten so work your focus and concentration.' Miles said. 'How are we feeling towards this weekend. Marshall, would you care to start?'
'Of course, sir.' Marshall responded. 'It's been a difficult few races, most things out of our control. Some issues we mentioned last week. I think today at the home of Ferrari we can show them who we really are, a force to be reckoned with. If we strike back ahead of the European part of the season, we could seriously surprise them.'
'Thank you for that, how about you Chase?' Miles asked.
'I fully agree with Marshall sir. If we put the issues behind us the unluckiness we've been having will have to pass at some point, this is a great place to do it.' Chase said.
'Alright, let's show them then.' Miles said with a smile on his face.
'Ladies, gentlemen and dogs, welcome to the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix here in Italy. The tifosi are ready to see what the championship leading team Ferrari can do. Can Danny finally win a championship after all these years? We'll have to see, Marshall is on pole with Danny ready to pounce right beside him.'
'AND ITS LIGHTS OUT AND AWAY WE GO, Marshall has an excellent start and has left the entire field in the dust! Danny is passed by Chase!' Crofty exclaimed in excitement.
'Red-Bull one two as it stands.'
'Time to box box Marshall, you're doing great.' Cole said.
'Let's keep it that way.' Marshall said calmly before entering the pits, a very quick pitstop later and Marshall is back out.
'Ferrari seem to be keeping Danny out. You shouldn't come across much traffic, a lot of the midfield has pitted.' Cole explained.
'Copy that.' Marshall said.
'It's been two long months of pain at Red-Bull, but at the home of their rivals they can FINALLY celebrate. Marshall comes home TO WIN THE EMILIA ROMAGNA GRAND PRIX! This championship, is far from over.' Crofty yelled in excitement.
'That is p1, and our first one-two of the season, awesome drive buddy.' Cole said, the smile on his face heard in his voice.
'YES YES YES, what a race guys! This is what this team is all about! Let's go!' Marshall exclaimed happily.
'You know what kind of performance this is?' Chase said over the radio. 'Red-Bulllllll perfection!' He said happily.
'Awesome drive today mate, max points for the team.' Cameron told him.
'So, ready for the rest of the season?' The interviewer asked.
'Teams have their ups and downs, as much as a team can do so far Ferrari has always been able to prevent a perfect season for them. That has never scared teams to back off, neither will it scare us off.' Marshall said.
'Thank you.' The interviewer said.
Suddenly Aaron, also known as Marshall's personal trainer, came in.
'Yo, are you finished here? I just got some news, you wanna hear that.' Aaron said.
'Yeah, I have a moment, you guys good?' Marshall asked the interviewers.
'We all good.' The interviewer said.
Marshall walked out with his trainer.
'You might wanna sit down for this one.' Aaron said.
