Chapter 40: Syren
Hey everyone I'm back with a new chapter. Now this one was a fun one to write. I would have had it out sooner but lately, I've been working on my smaller stories. I hope you like what I have planned. Please Review and Enjoy.
Up in the skies of Paris, a news helicopter was flying by as zoo animals were running amok.
"Nadia Chamack here! Escaped animals are running through the streets of Paris. Luckily Ladybug, Cat Noir, Silver Claw and Rena Rouge are on it!" Nadia said as the four heroes ran across the roof of the public pool where Kim was training along with a girl with orange hair, this was Ondine.
"I'm sure they'll get those animals under control." The coach said.
"Right, they are the best." Kim said sitting down. "I wish I could be a superhero, the powers, the secrets, the costume. That would be awesome, right?" Kim asks causing Ondine to giggle.
"Yeah sure." She said reaching into her bag and took out a notebook and wrote something down on it.
"How do you think I could become one? You think there's some kind of superhero school or something?" Kim asks as Ondine puts the paper in a waterproof bracelet.
"Wanna know my secret?" Ondine asks holding out the bracelet.
"Yeah I love this game." Kim said as she tossed the bracelet into the pool and he dived into it.
Resurfacing he opened the bracelet and read the note. "I have a serious crush on this boy but he has no idea. That boy is clueless. My turn." Kim said being clueless.
Writing something down he threw it into the water and Ondine dove after it. "I can stick by big toe inside my ear?" Ondine said looking up to see Kim showing her causing her to burst into laughter. "Alright let's stop beating around the bush."
She threw in another note but when Kim was about to read it his watch goes off. "Oh no the movie. I totally forgot." Kim said getting out.
"But we haven't finished yet." Ondine said.
"I'm sorry but I really have to go, I asked Chloe to come." Kim said grabbing his bag and leaving.
Frowning Ondine opens the note to reveal Kim with a heart in it. "The boy I'm crushing on is you." She said but he was long gone.
At his base, Hawk Moth saw everything.
"Poor little mermaid, how many times have you tried to tell your prince how you feel, and how many times has he dismissed you?" Hawk Moth asks turning a butterfly into an akuma. "Fly away my little akuma and evilise her." Hawk Moth order as the akuma flew out the window.
In the streets of Paris, Silver Claw and Cat Noir were running as panthers and wolves chased after them.
"Come on guys I'm one of you." Silver Claw said.
"You wouldn't eat one of your cousins, would you?" Cat Noir asks as Rena Rouge took out her flute.
"Mirage!" Playing a melody she created a line of meat towards a van.
"Wouldn't you guys like some chops instead?" Cat Noir asks as the animals followed the meat only for Ladybug to trap them in the van causing all the citizens to come out and cheer for them.
"Pound it." Cat Noir holds up his fist only to see Silver Claw and Rena Rouge running off. "Hey where are you two going?"
"Rena's about to transform back." Silver Claw said.
"So you can know the secret identity of your partner but I can't?" Cat Noir asks.
"Because Silver Claw has to return her Miraculous." Ladybug explains.
"So what am I? The sidekick always left in the dark? Are you not telling me things too, Ladybug?" Cat Noir asks.
"Look maybe before I say anything maybe I should talk to him." Ladybug said.
"Him? Who's him?" Cat Noir asks.
"We need to go." Rena Rouge said pointing to her necklace.
"Uh listen this something between you two so we're gonna leave." Silver Claw said as they ran off.
"Cat Noir I promise when the time is right, you'll know." Ladybug said running off in a different direction.
"I hate secrets." Cat Noir said in a huff.
Jumping down the from the roofs, Rena Rouge and Silver Claw turn back into Alya and Sam.
"Most couples go to restaurants or movies, but you take me to save Paris." Alya smiles.
"And all that other stuff too." Sam smiles as Alya ant Trixx high five.
"See you next week Alya." Trixx said as she took off the Miraculous and handed it back to Sam when their phones went off.
"Oh no the movie." Alya said.
"Save me a seat while I return this?" Sam asks.
"You know it." Alya kisses Sam on the lips before running off.
"Looks like we're missing the trailers." Faang sighs as he went into Sam's pocket and they made a run for it. Not noticing the akuma flying over them.
At the pool, Ondine was sad because Kim didn't notice her true feelings when the akuma entered her bracelet.
"Syren, I am Hawk Moth. I'm giving you the power to turn Paris into your own underwater kingdom for you and your prince. In return, you must bring me the Miraculous of Ladybug, Cat Noir, and Silver Claw." Hawk Moth said telepathically.
"May they all sink under my sorrow." Ondine said as she transformed causing her skin to change to pink and two silver horns appeared on her head as her tears caused the water in the pool to rise drastically.
At the movie theater, Kim ran to see Max and his robot Markov waiting for him up front.
"You are 3 minutes and 37 seconds late. Everyone's already inside." Max said.
"Is Chloe here?" Kim asks.
"Chloe? Watching Mecha Monkey vs Cyber Shark 3? I think your swimcap is a little too tight." Max mocks as Alya ran over and Max held out three tickets for her.
"Marinette still hasn't arrived yet?" Alya pants.
"True to her form. We'll save the three of you a seat." Max said as he and Kim walked in.
"Oh that girl." Alya shakes her head.
Little did they know the pool was starting to completely flood.
At Master Fu's, Sam handed him the Fox Miraculous.
"Excellent work Sam." Fu smiles.
"Thanks Master Fu, I better get going." Sam said walking down the hall to the left staircase but just as he went down Marinette came up from the right staircase.
"Are you sure you wanna talk to him now Marinette?" Tikki asks.
"I have to." Marinette said going inside to meet with him. "Uh Master Fu?"
"Marinette? Well this is a surprise." Fu said closing the music box.
"Master Fu we need to talk." Marinette said.
"Of course. Come and tell me what's bothering you." Fu said leading her to another room. Wayzz and Tikki tried to follow but Fu stops them. "You two have to stay here."
"Oh Master please." They both begged.
"Kwamis must never know the recipe that can modify their powers, ever." Fu said.
"Modify their powers?" Marinette asks.
"Imagine what would happen if you were captured like Hawk Moth's kwami Nooroo." Fu said as both kwamis flew back and they entered the room. "So what's on your mind Marinette?"
"Master Fu, Cat Noir is asking questions. He's tired of being left in the dark while Silver Claw and Rena Rouge seem to share everything." Marinette said as Fu mixed something.
"Tell me Marinette, do you put the noodles in the bowl before the water boils?" Fu asks.
"Uh no." Marinette said.
"Exactly, there is a time and place for everything." Fu said.
"Uh what are you cooking exactly?" Marinette asks.
"When fed with a specific blend of ingredients the kwamis can unlock great power. From the grimoire, I've managed to translate most of it. For example aquatic powers you need a branch from the dragon king's garden that's seaweed then secret kept in a shell that's an oyster pearl, but the last one still puzzles me, a tear of joy. I can't figure that one out and it's required in almost every blend…oh maybe it's Dancing Ant Honeydew." Fu takes out a vial and drops something in causing a small explosion. "I think I have the right mixture."
At Adrien's house, he was laying in his room holding Ladybug and Cat Noir action figures.
"Hey Cat Noir do you trust me?" He said mimicking Ladybug's voice.
"Of course Ladybug, do you trust me?" Adrien asks in his voice.
"Are you kidding? I will never trust you."
Sighing Adrien sits up and looks to Plagg. "Plagg you must know what's up with Ladybug or even Silver Claw." Adrien asks.
"I'm just a kwami Adrien and we kwamis have the right to remain silent." Plagg said.
"Pity just when I was about to order you some very tasty cheese." Adrien said taking out his phone. "Have you ever sampled Le Trap de Chonack? It says here it tastes like walnuts."
"I cannot be swayed by such things." Plagg said eating his camembert.
"Did you know about the Fu DeMon Preson? Apparently it's the oldest cheese in the world?" Adrien asks trying to bribe him.
"Y-You don't say?" Plagg asks as Adrien shows him a picture.
"Yes and do you know why its rind is orange? Because they age it on special boards of spruce wood." Adrien said.
"Only one thing can mask the smell of cheese!" Plagg runs to Adrien's dirty laundry and smells the socks.
"So which one would you like?" Adrien asks as Plagg let out a scream.
At Master Fu's, they handed Wayzz the mixture for him to taste.
"There's a slight flavor to this. Yes I remember it being a lot like this." Wayzz said causing them to smile.
"I knew it! Wayzz, power up!" Fu ordered but nothing happened.
"A little more salt maybe." Wayzz said.
"I failed again." Fu sighs when Marinette's phone rang.
"Hey Alya, what's up? The movie? No I haven't forgotten. I'm almost there." Marinette hangs up. "Sorry Master, good luck finding the secret ingredient." Marinette said running out.
At the movie theater, Sam was running over to see Alya waiting for him.
"Don't tell me, Marinette late again?" Sam asks.
"You know that girl." Alya smiles handing him his ticket.
"Meet you inside." Sam said walking in.
"Coming!" Alya looks to see Marinette running over.
"There you are." Alya said.
"Sorry I'm late! I was—"
"No time to explain. Come on." Alya said leading her in unaware of a large amount of water coming behind them.
Sitting down with their friends the movie was about to start run out quickly.
"What's going on?" Marinette asks when the they saw water flooding the theater.
Suddenly a giant tidal wave flooded Paris and all the buildings.
"Did a pipe burst or something?" Sam asks.
"The stairs!" Marinette said as they everyone ran up to the roof when Alya stops Sam at a lower level.
"Think we need a hero right now." Alya whispers.
"Cover for us?" Sam asks.
"You know it." Alya said as Sam ran through a door while Alya continued to the roof.
"We really should have waited to give Trixx back." Sam said as Faang flew out.
"No time to dwell on the past." Faang said.
"Faang, Teeth Out!" Sam said as his bracelet glowed and he transformed into Silver Claw.
Climbing out the window, Silver Claw escaped before the theater was flooded.
At Adrien's house, Plagg was flying around with a sock on his head trying to keep out Adrien's cheese bribes when suddenly water flooded his room.
"Looks like your whole cheese strategy will have to tread water." Plagg said.
"Don't worry, this isn't over. Plagg, Claws out!" Adrien said as his ring glowed and he transformed into Cat Noir.
At the movie theater, Marinette runs onto the roof to see Paris buried underwater.
"My circuits are sensitive to water." Markov said as Kim jumps into the water.
"Come on guys. I can teach you to swim in two seconds flat." Kim explains when suddenly they noticed something swimming towards Kim.
Jumping out of the water, everyone gasps to see Syren pull him underwater.
"Kim!" Max screams as Silver Claw jumped down.
"What happened?" Silver Claw asks.
"Silver Claw something just dragged my friend Kim underwater!" Max said.
"You all stay up here. I'm going in." Silver Claw said diving underwater.
"Can anyone see them?" Alya asks as they looked around to see Marinette in a recycle bin paddling away. "Marinette? What are you doing?"
"I'm uh going to get help!" Marinette said.
"So uh does this mean we're safe?" Alix asks not sure as Marinette paddled around a building.
"Okay, we're alone. Tikki, Spots on!" Marinette's earrings glowed as she transformed into Ladybug.
Underwater, Syren hugged Kim.
"Kim I've found you." She said but Kim was having trouble breathing. Blowing a bubble of air she put it around his head so he could breathe.
As Silver Claw was swimming through the water he was surprised to see it already filled with sea life.
Turning a corner, he saw Ladybug nearby. Ladybug points to the surface and they both swim up and gasp for air.
"This is gonna be a challenge." Silver Claw said.
"Tell me about. Don't suppose you know what happened?" Ladybug asks.
"I saw some fish thing grab a boy named Kim and pull him underwater." Silver Claw said.
"We better hurry, who knows what could be happening." Ladybug said as they both dove underwater and saw Kim with Syren.
"Amazing, I can breathe underwater. Like a fish." Kim said.
"I knew you'd love it and I've got other surprises for you too." Syren said when Ladybug throws her yoyo around Kim's leg and pulls him away. "My prince!"
Syren swam to get him but Silver Claw dove down with his sword and tried to slash her but the water made it difficult for him to swing allowing Syren to swim past him.
"Moon C—" Silver Claw chokes trying to do the deep breath required for the attack but couldn't.
Syren grabs Kim and tries to pull him away but Ladybug holds on.
"With every new environment comes a new set of rules. Ladybugs and wolves can't breathe underwater. Syren are you gonna let them take your prince away?" Hawk Moth asks telepathically.
"Never." Syren growls.
Up on the surface, Cat Noir was looking around for any sign of them when Ladybug and Silver Claw screamed as they were thrown out of the water and landed next to him.
"Why didn't you both tell me you were going for a swim?" Cat Noir asks helping them up.
"I wasn't planning on it. Ladybug's aren't cut out for deep-sea diving." Ladybug said as Silver Claw coughs.
"And the doggy paddle only gets you so far." Silver Claw said catching his breath. "Not to mention my sword isn't a very good weapon for underwater combat."
"Cats aren't crazy about water either. Don't suppose you can get us a submarine?" Cat Noir asks.
"Possibly Kitty. Lucky Charm!" Ladybug throws her yoyo into the air and from it a pot appears.
"Uh what are we supposed to do with this?" Silver Claw asks.
"I guess we could always use it to scoop up the water. It'll just take a long time." Cat Noir said when Ladybug realized something.
"I'll be right back." Ladybug said as Cat Noir grabbed her arm.
"Wait are you going?" Cat Noir asks.
"I'm sorry I can't…"
"Say anything." Cat Noir lets go. "We are a team you know, it seems like you two know more than me."
"It's not easy keeping secrets." Ladybug said as she ran off.
Cat Noir looks to Silver Claw and both of them sigh and sit down.
Running across the rooftops, Ladybug transforms back into Marinette when she reaches the roof of Master Fu's place.
"Master Fu?"
"This way." Marinette walks over to see Master Fu had set up a workshop on the roof and had a depressed look on his face.
"Cat Noir, Silver Claw and I can't defeat the mermaid underwater." Marinette said.
"I know and I haven't figured out the correct blend to help you all. I've failed." Fu sighs.
"No way we are gonna find that last ingredient." Marinette said as Tikki and Wayzz covered their ears and turned around.
"The Tear of Joy? I've tried everything: water from the laughing fountain, melted snow from the mountain of jubilation, drops of pure chocolate extract." Fu lists.
"But have you tried a real tear of joy?" Marinette asks.
"What?" Fu asks.
"Tell me a really funny joke." Marinette said.
"Is this really the time?" Fu asks.
"Okay uhm why do you go to bed at night?" Marinette asks.
"I don't know." Fu said.
"Because your bed won't come to you." Marinette said causing Fu to laugh. "What goes up but stands still? Stairs. What does a snail say on a turtle's back? Whooo!" When Marinette sees a tear come from Fu's eye she drops it in the pot and causes it to glow.
"I think you just found the magic ingredient." Fu smiles feeding a spoonful to Tikki.
"Tikki, power on!" Marinette said as Tikki glowed to change shape resembling a fish.
"Aqua Tikki!" She smiles.
"Aqua Tikki, Spots on!" Marinette said as she transformed getting white and black fish scale patterns and fins.
Ladybug marvels at her new form and turns to Master Fu. "Master, I think it's time to put those noodles in the water."
"I'll take care of everything." Fu smiles as Ladybug dives in.
With Cat Noir and Silver Claw, they were still sitting on the roof waiting for Ladybug.
"Why does this happen?" Cat Noir asks.
"What do you mean?" Silver Claw asks.
"You get a new partner, Ladybug knows someone but nothing happens to me. Maybe I should quit." Cat Noir said.
"What? No, we need you." Silver Claw said.
"Can't you get Rena Rouge to pick up the slack for me?" Cat Noir asks.
"Cat Noir, Rena Rouge is my partner and I need her to help out, but Ladybug and I need you even more. I was confused as you were but it wasn't until I was ready that I was able to learn new things. You will too. Just trust us." Silver Claw said causing Cat Noir to smile.
"Thanks buddy." Cat Noir said when Silver Claw noticed Fu on the other side of the roof.
"I'm gonna try calling Ladybug. Use this chance to sort things out." Silver Claw said hopping to the other side of the roof and turning back into Faang and Sam as Fu walks up to them.
"That was very good of you to help Cat Noir like that." Fu said.
"Thanks but I have a feeling you didn't show up to say that." Sam said as Fu took out a green vial.
"Drink this and you will be able to fight underwater." Fu said.
"Sweet, but uh I'm not sure my sword is the best weapon for water combat." Sam said.
"Taken care of it. Hope you can handle this forms new weapon." Fu smiles.
On the other side Cat Noir turned back into Adrien and Plagg.
"You're not gonna try bribing me with more cheese are you?" Plagg asks.
"No Plagg, but what are we gonna do? Those two are taking too long." Adrien asks.
"Hello Cat Noir." Adrien turns to see Master Fu standing behind him.
"Huh?" Adrien looks at him and gasps remembering he saw him on the first day of school. "You! You're the man who—"
Before Adrien could finish Fu took out a green vial. "I'll explain everything later. I promise. I've just given one to Silver Claw. You must go help Ladybug." Fu said.
"Oh man, I hate transforming." Plagg said.
At the public pool, Kim was sitting on a throne made from the lifeguard station in a giant air bubble.
"I love what you've done with the pool. It's awesome." Kim said.
"This is the pool where the old me tried to pour her heart out to you so many times." Syren said.
"But uh I've never seen a siren at the pool." Kim said as she lifted her bracelet up causing him to gasp. "Ondine?"
"I'm your Syren now and you can be my merman. It only needs a kiss." Syren said.
"Wait you mean I can swim as fast as you?" Kim asks.
"Yes Kim, you'll be my prince." Syren smiles about to kiss him.
"Wait does this mean I'll never get to see Mecha Monkey vs Cyber Shark 3?" Kim asks.
"What?" Syren asks confused.
"Oh yes you will." Turning around Ladybug was behind them.
"In fact you might even make it to the next show." Swimming in Silver Claw had webbed hands, black scales, fins and in his hand was a silver trident.
"The four of us can go together. I'll even share my popcorn." Cat Noir said swimming in with green fins.
"I knew those Miraculous had hidden powers. Syren there's too many fish in the sea. Take their Miraculous before they take your Prince." Hawk Moth orders as Syren attacks.
Swinging his trident Silver Claw whacks Syren away with ease.
"Whoa this a lot easier than a sword when you're underwater." Silver Claw said liking his new weapon.
Ladybug throws her yoyo at Syren's tail but she swims around quickly trying to shake her off.
Letting go Ladybug stops in front of Kim.
Swimming around Syren was taking on both Cat Noir and Silver Claw.
"We could use something to slow her down." Cat Noir said.
"Let's try this again. Aqua Moon Call!" Silver Claw takes a deep breath and releases a howl creating sonic rings of water that smash into Syren knocking her into the wall.
"Cool." Cat Noir grins.
"Agreed." Silver Claw said.
"Your outfits are so cool." Kim said.
"Thanks but tell me what happened to your friend to get her so worked up?" Ladybug asks.
"We were playing a game of Secrets and I think she was trying to tell me I'm the boy she likes but I was a doofus and didn't notice." Kim admits.
"Secrets?" Ladybug asks.
"It's a game Ondine invented. You write a secret in the capsule on her bracelet." Kim explains as Ladybug notices the bracelet.
"That must be where the akuma is. Aqua Lucky Charm!" Ladybug threw her yoyo up and a pair of car keys appeared. "Guess it's time to hit the road. Here you can breathe through this." Ladybug said handing him her yoyo which thanks to the aqua form was like a mini oxygen tank.
Silver Claw swings his trident keeping Syren at bay when Cat Noir swings his staff knocking her back.
Syren growls shaking it off when she noticed Kim and Ladybug escaping. "Kim!"
"Hey we're not done!" Cat Noir said as they swam after her.
Syren searched the streets and found Ladybug all by herself.
"Ladybug! What have you done with my prince?!" Syren asks not realizing Kim was hiding on the rooftops out of the water.
"I think he took someone else to the ball." Ladybug said.
"I won't let you steal him from me! Kim is mine!" Syren snaps chasing after Ladybug.
"Cat Noir, Silver Claw, are you alright?" Ladybug asks.
"Oh yeah." Silver Claw said swimming up.
"Like a fish in water." Cat Noir said.
"Then be ready to strike." Ladybug said swimming to an open car. "Silver Claw!"
Throwing his trident, it stabs the car causing the airbags to slam into Syren as Ladybug and Cat Noir close the doors and using her keys she locks the car.
Wrapping her yoyo around the trident they swim up onto the roofs and tie the other end to Cat Noir's staff to mimic a fishing rod.
"Looks like I got a nibble!" Pulling with all his might the car crashes onto the roof.
"Nice catch." Silver Claw said as Ladybug opened the car and crushes the bracelet.
"No more evil doing for you little akuma. Time to de-evilise!" Throwing her yoyo she catches the akuma and turns it into a butterfly. "Bye-bye little butterfly, Miraculous Ladybug!" Throwing the keys into the air they got rid of all the water and turned Ondine to normal.
"Thanks for everything guys." Cat Noir said.
"It's what teammates do." Ladybug said.
"Pound it." The three heroes fist bump.
At Master Fu's house, Master Fu handed Marinette some vials. "Each blend corresponds to a new power."
"Wow that's a lot." Marinette said.
"You must keep the vials on you at all times." Fu said.
"That's not really practical." Marinette said looking at the vials.
"Only the ingredients matter. They can be contained in anything." Fu said.
"In that case." Marinette took her vials and used them to make mini macaroons.
Leaving his house, Master Fu and Sam met up at Sam's place as Sam was in the kitchen.
Fu and Faang watched as he poured each vile in a pot and dumped Beef jerky in each one.
"Voila. Magical Marinated Beef Jerky." Sam said holding them up.
"Very creative." Fu said impressed.
"Just think of all we can do with this, Sam." Faang said.
"Will Alya be able to use these too?" Sam asks.
"Only for emergencies. Until the time is right best keep them for yourself." Fu warns.
"Okay." Sam nods as Fu left.
Placing the different jerky in a special Tupperware Sam puts them away.
"Imagine how much help having these will be." Faang said.
At the public pool, Ondine was swimming laps when Kim stopped at the edge holding out her bracelet.
"Wanna play a game?" Kim asks as she opens the letter.
"Will you go to the movies with me?" Ondine asks as she looks up to see Kim holding his hands together saying please.
At Adrien's house, Gabriel was at work when the doorbell rang.
"Who is it?" Gabriel asks as he looks to see Fu at the door.
"Hello I'm Mr. Chen. Adrien's Chinese tutor could not come in today so I'll be replacing him." Fu said causing Gabriel's eyes to narrow.
"What time is it?" Adrien recites in Chinese.
"The answer is the right time." Fu said walking in surprising him.
"Adrien, this is Mr. Chan he'll be your substitute today." Natalie said walking out.
"Hello Adrien, I think you and I should have a little talk." Fu said as Plagg flew out.
"Adrien this is Master Fu the last Guardian of the Miraculous." Plagg said.
In Hawk Moth's base, Gabriel was talking to Nooroo.
"Nooroo, how can I obtain more power?" Gabriel asks.
"What do you mean, Master?" Nooroo asks.
"Don't play foolish with me. Ladybug, Cat Noir and Silver Claw all managed to unlock new powers imagine what would happen if Rena Rouge could to." Gabriel said.
"We kwamis do not know the recipe." Nooroo said.
"It's in this book isn't it?" Gabriel asks holding up the grimoire.
"Only guardians can read the text. I swear." Nooroo said.
"Well then I'll have to find this Guardian of the Miracuous. Wherever he is." Gabriel said.
In Adrien's room, Fu handed him a case of camembert mixed with the vials.
"Oh man. I hate transforming." Plagg groans.
