Chapter 43: Soccer Bomb

It was a calm day at school as Sam was sitting in class writing an assignment occasionally stealing glances at Marinette who was talking to Alya.
'Man all this time Marinette has been fighting by my side. It's incredible how different she is as Ladybug.' Sam thought when the bell rang.
"Alright class, please hand in your papers and have a great weekend." Ms. Bustier said.
"So Max, you gonna watch the game this weekend?" Kim asks.
"And which game would that be?" Max asks.
"Duh, it's the World Cup. France is facing Italy in the finals!" Kim said excitedly.
"Sounds like you're a fan." Sam said walking over.
"Sure I am France's Virgil Walker is the guy to beat. Best kicker on the team." Kim said.
As Sam walked out he saw Adrien on his phone.
"What? But Natalie you said Father would come with me." Adrien said before sighing. "I understand."
"Dad bail on you again?" Sam asks walking over to him.
"Yep, we were gonna go to the World Cup together." Adrien said.
"Sorry Adrien." Sam said.
"Thanks, but what am I gonna do with 3 extra tickets?" Adrien asks before looking over. "Hey Sam would you like to come with me?"
"Sure can I invite two others?" Sam asks.
"Just tell me who and we'll pick them up." Adrien said as Sam took out his phone.
"Hey Alya, quick question." Sam said.
On Saturday, Alya and Marinette were waiting outside Marinette's bakery and boy was Marinette excited.
"I can't believe Adrien is really picking me up." Marinette said.
"Yeah because we're all going to the same place together." Alya said.
"I know it's amazing." Marinette said as Adrien's car pulled up in front of them.
The window rolled down to reveal Sam and Adrien sitting inside.
"Ladies, your ride awaits." Sam smiles.
"Wow Adrien, talk about style." Alya said.
"Well I figured with all the fans going you guys could use a lift. Get in." Adrien said as Alya and Marinette climbed inside.
"World cup here we come!" Sam said as they all cheered in agreement.
At the stadium, the stands were filling with people excited to see their team win.
In the France team locker room, a man with a shaved head wearing a red and blue uniform was lacing up.
"Hey Virgil you ready for this?" A few teammates ask walking over.
"I'll admit I have a few butterflies, but honestly I'm excited." Virgil smiles.
"We're counting on you and power kick of yours." A teammate said patting him on the back.
"I won't let you guys down." Virgil nods.
Up above in the stands, Sam and Marinette were getting snacks.
"So Sam, is this your first time seeing the world cup?" Marinette asks.
"Basically. In America, the big sport was Football uh not this kind of Football the more violent kind." Sam said.
"Oh that version." Marinette cringed knowing what he meant. "Well I bet your glad to be here."
"Yeah it's fun hanging out with you guys." Sam said handing Marinette two bags of popcorn and he grabbed 4 sodas.
As they walked back Sam looked to the small bag attached to Marinette. 'She never goes anywhere without that bag. I bet that's where she keeps her kwami.' Sam thought as they sat down with Alya and Adrien.
"Did we miss anything?" Marinette asks handing out the snacks.
"Nope got here just in time." Adrien said as they sat down.
"Alright folks! It's time for the World Cup!" The announcer said as the audience cheered loudly when both teams ran out onto the field.
"Whoo go France!"
"Viva Italia!"
"Oh man this is so exciting." Adrien said.
"Yeah it is." Alya smiles as the game started and Italy made the first move.
The Italian team got the ball and raced across the field when Virgil got the ball from them and dribbled the ball towards the goal before kicking to his teammate who ran forward before kicking it back to Virgil who kicks the ball sending it flying into the goal.
"GOAL!" The announcer said as the crowd cheered wildly.
"First minutes in and we're already in the lead." Adrien cheers.
"This is amazing!" Marinette cheers.
As everyone got back in position the Italian team went in and when one got the ball Virgil slid in and kicked the ball out of the way but also ended up kicking the other player causing him to fall to the ground causing the ref to blow the whistle.
"That's foul on France!" The ref said.
"What's going on?" Sam asks.
"The refs think that Virgil landed a dirty blow in that last move." Alya said as the ref examined the Italian player and noticed the bruise on his leg.
"Virgil, for injuring a player on the other team you are pulled from the first half of the game." The ref announced.
"What? I barely even touched him!" Virgil snaps.
"Do you want to be pulled from the entire game?" The ref asks.
Growling in anger Virgil walks off the field and into the locker rooms.
"Oh man, he doesn't look happy." Marinette said.
"This might be the biggest game of his life. I don't blame him." Adrien said.
At his base, Hawk Moth saw the whole thing.
"Ah the World Cup, one of the biggest sporting events in the world and a star player becoming a benchwarmer. The perfect victim for my little akuma." Hawk Moth said turning a butterfly into an akuma. "Fly away my little akuma and evilise him."
In the locker rooms, Virgil was growing in anger as he kicks a soccer ball making it knock over a trashcan before it rolled back to him and he rests his foot on it.
Suddenly the akuma flies in from the window and enters the ball.
"Soccer Bomb, I am Hawk Moth. An MVP like you doesn't deserve to be pulled from the biggest game of the year. I am giving you the power to blow everyone away with your amazing skills, but in return, I want something from you, not the trophy but the Miraculous of Ladybug, Cat Noir and Silver Claw." Hawk Moth said telepathically.
"Consider it down Hawk Moth." Virgil said as akuma transformed him.
Outside, as the first half of the game was coming to an end Italy led the score with 5 to 2.
"Man who knew losing one guy could lead to such a gap." Sam cringed.
"I really hope they pick things up in the next half." Adrien said when suddenly a black ball flew out and an explosion went off startling everyone.
From the cloud of smoke, a black soccer ball raced back towards a man with blue skin, spiky gray hair and a black and red soccer uniform with skull and crossbones on his back where his number was.
"Sorry for the delay folks but Soccer Bomb is on the field!" Soccer Bomb declared as he kicked the ball sending it flying towards the team from Italy.
Acting quickly they jumped out of the way as the ball flew into the goal and exploded destroying that part of the field before the ball raced back to him.
"Is this the halftime show?" Sam asks.
"That's only in American Football, Sam." Alya said.
"What do they do during the halftime here?" Sam asks.
"Definitely not this!" Marinette said as Soccer Bomb kicked his ball towards them.
"Incoming!" Adrien said pulling Marinette to safety as the ball explodes beneath them.
Screaming in fear everyone in the audience ran out as fast as they could trying to escape.
"What's a matter? The game is just beginning." Soccer Bomb declared.
On the ground, Marinette looks to see Adrien holding her close. "Uh Adrien." Marinette blushed softly.
"Oh uh sorry. Are you okay?" Marinette asks.
"I think so but we better get out of here. Sam you and Alya go that way. I'll take Marinette and go this way." Adrien said as they got up.
"Be careful." Sam said as he and Alya ran inside.
"You sure those two will be okay?" Alya asks as they ran behind the snack stand and ducked.
'Well Marinette will definitely be okay.' Sam thought. "I'm sure but I really wish we had gotten Trixx today."
"You can handle him, I'm sure Ladybug and Cat Noir will be here soon." Alya said as Faang flew out.
"Well Sam, looks like Soccer Bomb is about to have a real opponent." Faang said.
"Kiss for luck?" Sam asks as Alya pecks him on the cheek.
"Go get him." Alya said.
"Faang, Teeth Out!" Sam said as his bracelet glowed and he transformed into Silver Claw.
Down the hall, Adrien led Marinette to an emergency exit. "Go down this way and don't stop until you reach the bottom."
"But what about you?" Marinette asks.
"Don't worry about me. I'll be fine knowing you're safe." Adrien said closing the door before running towards the staircase.
As Marinette closes the door, Tikki flew out.
"Wow Adrien really cares about you." Tikki said.
"I know, first he hugged me and now this. If I could get a kiss this would be the best day of my life." Marinette sighs.
"Marinette focus." Tikki said.
"Right, sorry. Tikki, Spots On!" Marinette said as her earrings glowed and she transformed into Ladybug.
Adrien ran down a level before letting Plagg out.
"Wow Adrien who knew you were so smooth." Plagg said.
"Come on Plagg, not the best time." Adrien said.
"Why not? Come on Romeo." Plagg teases.
"Plagg, Claws Out!" Adrien said as his ring glowed and he transformed into Cat Noir.
As Soccer Bomb dribbled the ball across the field he kicked it and blew a giant hole in the arena.
"Goal!" Soccer Bomb grinned.
"You know playing a game is more fun when you have someone to play with." Soccer Bomb turned and saw Silver Claw looking down at him from the stands.
"You dare challenge me?" Soccer Bomb asks as Silver Claw drew his sword.
"Let's see how tough you are when you have a real opponent." Silver Claw said.
Soccer Bomb kicks the ball which flew towards Silver Claw but he jumped down dodging the explosion and charged towards Soccer Bomb, but before he could reach him the ball flew back towards him and Soccer Bomb kicks the ball again making it explode upon impact knocking Silver Claw to ground.
"Wow that ball is strong." Silver Claw winces.
"Here have another look!" Soccer Bomb kicks the ball when Ladybug's yoyo flew in and yanked Silver Claw out of the way as it exploded before going back to him.
"That has got to be a foul." Ladybug said helping him up. "You okay Silver Claw?"
"Yeah thanks Ma—Man. Thanks Ladybug, you the man." Silver Claw quickly recovers.
"Still better than Bugaboo." Ladybug shrugs.
"What? Bugaboo is a million times better than that." Cat Noir said jumping down.
"And the Guest team has finally arrived." Soccer Bomb said looking at the three heroes.
"Soccer Bomb, the only thing standing in your way is them. Take them down and you win." Hawk Moth said telepathically.
"Time for the final half!" Soccer Bomb said kicking the ball towards them.
"Don't let it hit you!" Silver Claw said as three of them jumped out of the dodging the explosion.
"We got to get in close!" Ladybug said.
"I'm on it!" Cat Noir draws his staff and extends it making him pole vault over Soccer Bomb and land behind him.
"Oh no you don't!" Soccer Bomb kicks his ball towards Cat Noir but he dodges.
Coming in from the other side Ladybug and Silver Claw charge in, but Soccer Bomb kicks the ball up and gives it a header before rolling out of the way making it explode right on top of the three heroes sending them flying into the wall.
"Wow, those were some fancy moves." Cat Noir groans.
"We gotta get off this field and think of a plan." Ladybug said getting up.
"You're not going anywhere!" Soccer Bomb said kicking the ball towards them.
"Moon Call!" Silver Claw's bracelet glows as he took a deep breath and released a sonic howl sending the ball flying back and smashing into Soccer Bomb causing an explosion.
Jumping up in the stands the three heroes ran behind some stands to catch their breath.
"That probably bought us a little time." Silver Claw said.
"That akuma has to be in that ball." Ladybug said.
"But how are we supposed to get it? It explodes once it hits something." Cat Noir asks.
"Not to mention it always goes right back to Soccer Bomb." Silver Claw said.
"You'd have to be the ultimate goalie to catch that ball." Cat Noir said when Silver Claw's bracelet started to beep.
"Well we better think of something fast. I'm running out of time here." Silver Claw said when the ball flew past them and destroyed a pretzel cart.
"Guess Soccer Bomb's also a health freak." Cat Noir winces as the ball flew back towards Soccer Bomb who was standing across from them.
"You can't leave before the game is over, that's a foul." Soccer Bomb said.
Picking themselves up the three heroes drew their weapons.
"Don't you know you can't play ball inside?" Cat Noir asks.
"Clearly you've never seen me play." Soccer Bomb kicks the ball and it bounces off the wall and ricochets off all the surfaces setting off a chain of explosions all around the three heroes as they bobbed and weaved turning this soccer match into a game of dodgeball.
Silver Claw swings his sword and charges in but Soccer Bomb does a feint and dribbles past him before kicking his ball knocking Silver Claw to the ground.
"Silver Claw is down. Soccer Bomb take his Miraculous! His bracelet!" Hawk Moth orders.
"The first award for my amazing game." Soccer Bomb said reaching for it when Cat Noir extends his staff knocking Soccer Bomb into the popcorn machine.
"You okay?" Cat Noir asks helping him up.
"Thanks." Silver Claw said standing up. "We need to get back on the field. He's using this small space to thrash us."
"We need a little time." Ladybug said when she noticed a cotton candy cart.
As Soccer Bomb picked himself up Ladybug throws her yoyo around the cart.
"Hey Soccer Bomb, have a snack!" Ladybug said throwing it at him.
Soccer Bomb kicks his ball at it and the machine explodes but when it does cotton candy completely covers him giving the three heroes the opening they needed.
"That won't hold him for long." Cat Noir said as they jumped down back onto the field.
"We need to stop him here and now." Silver Claw said as Soccer Bomb came dribbling towards them.
"Lucky charm!" Ladybug throws her yoyo into the air and from it a pair of oven mitts appeared. "Oven mitts?"
"Hmm maybe you're supposed to bake the athlete a tasty snack." Cat Noir said as Ladybug looked around and got an idea. "Cat Noir time to mess up the field. Silver Claw you're with me."
Nodding all of them ran into action.
"Cataclysm!" Cat Noir's ring glowed as dark energy surrounded his hand before slamming it down on the field causing it to crack and break off trapping Soccer Bomb.
"Hey Soccer Bomb!" Ladybug said getting his attention.
Turning around he saw Ladybug and Silver Claw in front of the goal as Ladybug put the oven mitts on.
"Try and get a goal past me." Ladybug taunts.
"With pleasure." Soccer Bomb grins dribbling towards her.
"You ready Silver Claw?" Ladybug asks.
"I just hope it works." Silver Claw said getting behind her.
Soccer Bomb kicks the ball towards them and Ladybug uses the oven mitts to catch the ball, but when the force of the explosion pushes her back Silver Claw catches her and pushes back to keep her standing.
When the smoke cleared Soccer Bomb gasps to see Ladybug holding the ball.
"No!" Soccer Bomb gasps seeing his ball can't come back to him since Ladybug was holding it.
"Sorry but you lose." Ladybug said as Silver poked a hole in the ball releasing the akuma. "No more evil doing for you little akuma. Time to de-evilise!" Ladybug spins her yoyo capturing the akuma and turning it back into a butterfly. "Gotcha, bye-bye little butterfly. Miraculous Ladybug!" Throwing the oven mitts into the air all the damages went away, the soccer field returned to normal and Soccer Bomb turned back into Virgil.
"Ugh what happened?" Virgil groans.
"Pound it." The three heroes said fist bumping.
As Silver Claw looks over he saw Alya up above filming all of them and waves causing him to smile.
Back at his base, Hawk Moth was not happy.
"Curse you Ladybug, you may have won this game, but sooner or later I'll be the MVP." Hawk Moth vows.
As the fans gathered back in the stadium, Sam walked in with Alya.
"Man that was an explosive soccer game." Alya said.
"I don't think this qualifies as a game." Sam said when Marinette ran over.
"Marinette, good to see you made it out okay." Alya said.
"Yeah I was lucky." Marinette said.
"It was pretty crazy. Lucky Ladybug was there." Sam said.
"Yeah it was." Marinette said when Adrien came over.
"Oh thank goodness you're all safe." Adrien said.
"Hey Adrien where were you?" Sam asks.
"Hiding didn't want to get hit by that explosive soccer ball." Adrien said.
"Yeah I don't blame you." Sam said.
As they walked back out, they saw Virgil sitting down when his team walked over.
"Well it's the second half, which means you can come back in if you want." A teammate said.
"Really? You guys still want me?" Virgil asks.
"Of course, you deserve to be on that field just as much as we do." Another said.
Smiling Virgil came out for the second half of the game.
As all of them got back to their seats they cheered as the teams went back onto the field.
"The game may not be over, but Ladybug, Silver Claw and Cat Noir were the real MVPs." Alya said as they enjoyed the rest of the game.
