(AN: Gonna try a little perspective change this chapter)

*Jaune PoV*

Jaune was worried right now. Actually he was always somewhat worried between having to care for his younger sisters and trying to avoid being caught by his elder sisters who would ask him to do their chores, but this time it was for a completely different reason. His mother was late, very late.

She was never this late.

She had gone into town to get a few things for dinner that night, she was making Arc style meatballs, his favorite. The ingredients should not have taken that long to gather and even if she was held up by something it should not have taken hours for her to get back. It was already turning late and the sky was going from orange to dark.

Normally he wouldn't care, he knew she used to be a capable huntress, and even if she was retired she could more than take care of herself, but he couldn't help it today. Ever since early in the day he had a bad feeling. He tried to ignore it at first, but throughout the day it just got worse. It was as if his instincts were telling him to be ready, to brace himself. Almost like how people reflexively tense when they stumble, a subconscious preparation to hit the ground.

Being tense all day hadn't done him any wonders, and it may just be his paranoia building up, so to calm himself he tried texting her scroll... no response. Well maybe she was in the middle of something so he'd call her instead in a few minutes, and so he waited.

After what felt like an eternity, the reality being 5 minutes, Jaune he picked up his scroll and dialed his mom.

'She's going to pick up and everything is going to be alright' Jaune thought to himself anxiously.

riiiing* riiiing* riiiing*

As it took longer and longer for her to pick up Jaune's nerves got worse and worse.

'What if this bad feeling was a warning? What if he didn't listen to it and now his mom is in trouble? What if she hurt right now all because he decided to ignore this feeling which only got stronger?!' Jaune thought spiraling into deeper and darker thoughts. Until finally he heard a robotic voice answer.

"*We're sorry the person you dialed could not be reached, please leave a mess-" *beep*

Jaune didn't even bother listening to the rest of the message, quickly hanging up and deciding to head into town himself. Getting ready as quickly as he could, he took one last look in the mirror in his room to see if he had missed anything.

Same as always he saw a tall teen with fair skin, blonde hair and dark blue eyes staring at him. Not seeing anything out place he stepped out of his room, ran through the house, and dashed out the door towards the city.

Had Jaune's ability to think not been compromised by the worry and his building paranoia that something was wrong, he would have realized that he could have just told his elder siblings to go check on her, or have tried calling his mom's friends before setting upon his quest.

Alas his thinking was infact compromised and Jaune dashed into town. He first searched the closest grocery market, and upon not finding her there he crossed the town and searched the other ones further away.

Nothing.

As Jaune ran himself ragged running through the town, he had many thoughts on his mind.

'What happened to her?' Was the most prevalent one.

'Will I even be able to help her?' Was the insidious one.

'It doesn't matter, and maybe when I help her I can finally convince her to let me become a huntsman' Was the hopeful one.

Jaune's mom had never let him even train to become a huntsman, he knew why, how could he not. Where before she used to tell him stories of his dad's bravery and his father's tales of the villages he had saved and battles he had fought, now there was only silence. Once they lost him that everything changed. He had asked only once, once before he knew the answer wouldn't change, probably ever.

She had said no. She didn't raise her voice, but the look in her eyes, that look. The way her face lost all its mirth, and her eyes felt both as if they were stabbing through him, and fragile enough that, should he breathe wrong they would shatter. Her voice had actually been soft, softer than he had ever heard her before, yet they cut through any arguments he wanted to make, like a hot knife through butter. He had been cowed.

Yet still he held hope. Hope that he will be able to save people some day, just like his father. Hope that something somewhere would change, and he'd be allowed to live his dream. That was for later though, right now he needed to find his mom.

As he continued running through the town for a while eventually he heard someone call his name from somewhere behind him.

"Heeyyyy Jauuuuneee!!" shouted someone.

Turning to look he saw it was Ilos, one of his moms friends. She was waving him over from across the street in front of her store. Maybe she knew what had happened to his mom.

As he jogged over to he realized he was out of breath, dead tired actually. Once he stopped in front of her he put his hands on his knees and he slouched while attempting to catch his breath, his attempt was short jagged breaths.

"Woah, you're not looking too good there Jaunny boy. Are you alright?" Said Ilos giving him a concerned stare.

"ye- Yes" He said. That's it, that's what he could manage while still trying to catch his breath.

Ilos gave him a look with a raised brow that said she clearly doubted so.

Ilos carried on regardless, "Anyways Jaune, I just wanted to let you know your mom's sleeping in the back. I've let her rest for a while but I'm going to close up shop soon, so let's go wake her up so she can get goin. Follow me" She said leaving Jaune stumped there for a bit.

Quickly shaking off his confusion he followed her inside and as they walked through the shop he asked worriedly, "What happened to her, is she alright?!", had he been right? was that ominous feeling a warning for him that he had chosen to ignore?

Ilos looked over at him and said, "She's fine Jaunny , she was just a bit tuckered out so I decided to let her crash here while your gramps watched over her" she said in an amused tone.

"Oh that's good the- wa- wait! gramps??" Jaune asked with his face twisted by confusion. It was a funny sight. His confusion was not unfounded, because as far he knew he didn't have any grandparents, neither mom or dad had ever talked about their parents.

Ilos confirmed the face he made was in fact hilarious as she let out a melodious laugh, before answering him.

"Yeah well, what can I tell you, your mom decided to go out shopping and brought back an old man!" she said in an amused tone.

Jaune understood that Ilos was finding the whole situation very funny, he also understood that he didn't have even a faint idea about where the joke was, maybe it was the grandpa thing.

Eventually they reached the back and Ilos said to him, "She's right through here just wake her and get going, I'll be getting ready to close up shop."

Jaune gave her a quick thanks as she turned away, and entered the room. It was homely, not too spacious, but definitely had everything it needed. As he looked around he spotted his mom, laying down on the mattress, sleeping.

Walking towards her Jaune began to move to shake her awake once he was at her side. Suddenly, without warning or cause, the heckles he'd been having all day returned with full force. His mom was fine though right? So why was he still feeling this need to either brace himself like never before or run and never look back. He froze no longer trying to shake his mother awake, but rather trying to mimic a statue in the now oppressive silence of this room.

"Boy"

A single word cuts through the silence. As he turned to look at the speaker they continued to talk.

"What do you think you're doing?" Asked the person who he could now see.

In the corner of the room was a finely dressed old man. He had a massive scar on his forehead, and was holding onto a long wooden cane, though it didn't look like he was leaning on it for support. He noticed that one of the sleeves on his suit was empty, but most importantly.

Jaune was in awe, never had he seen a beard and eyebrows so long. 'This guy must be absolutely ancient!' Jaune thought to himself

Jaune didn't know just how right he was at that moment.

As Jaune continued to stare looking over this new person they repeated themselves.

"I asked, what do you think you're doing?" The old man said in a firm voice. His face matched his tone as he looked at him.

Almost automatically Jaune felt his back straighten up at the tone as if to pay full attention and full respect to the man before him.

"I'm trying to wake up my mom s- sir" Jaune said, with his face starting to flush as his stutter repeats itself in his mind.

With his response given the tense atmosphere disappears and Jaune relaxes and releases a breath he didn't know he had been holding, although something in the back of his mind is still weary.

"Hmm" responded the old man, and with a nod towards him the old man receded into the corner where Jaune now realizing he had been leaning in.

'Well that's kinda... weird?' Jaune thought to himself as he decided to ignore his curiosity and moved back towards his mom to wake her up

"Mom, mom, mom, mooooomm, moooommm wake up" said Jaune while gently shaking her and spamming that one word in the same way a toxic teammate would spam 'gg ez'.

*Violet PoV*

"-oomm"

"mooommm"

Violet woke up, the ceiling was unfamiliar and her instincts and training as a huntress started to bleed into her as she started tensing, this was in the seconds before she started to scan the room and the first thing that greeted her was the sight of her son.

"Jaune?" she questioned a little bit disoriented after waking up, but the tension was already bleeding off her. She began to sit up.

"Yes mom?" answered Jaune dutifully.

"What are you doing here honey? Actually where are we right now?" she asked him, confusion painted on her face.

"I was looking for you after you didn't come back, I tried calling but you weren't answering. We're over at Ilos, but I'm not sure why you were here or asleep.", responded Jaune shrugging his shoulders as he ended the sentence.

'my scroll was called?Ilos place? that's where I went to with... Yamamoto' , her train of thought trailed off as the memories of how she broke down came rushing back.

Violet wanted to violently cringe and then crawl into a hole as she remembered how she had acted, but she couldn't and she also needed to thank him as she remembered how he held her while she cried.

'Then again maybe I won't have to, maybe he's gone, I mean who would stick around after something like tha-' unfortunately her inner monologue was quickly struck down.

"I'm glad to see you're awake and healthy Miss Arc"

"Eep!" Violet let out a squeak, as the very person she was just thinking about was still right there.

"Mom who is this guy?" asked her son as he stared towards him with curiosity.

"He's...-" what did she say? 'He's a person who reminded me of your dad so much I broke down crying in front of him? no. A friend? much too old. an old teacher?' As Violet tried to think of what to say, her thoughts were quickly halted by one question from her son.

"Is he my grandpa?" Jaune asked innocently.

"h- huh?" was all she could manage, followed up by, "Honey where did you get that idea?"

"Ilos told me" he answered.

'Damnit Ilos!' Violet could already imagine her having a big howl once this blows over.

'Ugh what do I do in this situation' thought Violet, 'Maybe I'll just go along with what Ilos said, may as well since I already have no excuse ready'

'Actually, I never talked to Jaune or any of his siblings about my parents, maybe this might work' and with that a cunning plan came together to keep the truth of what had happened from Jaune and the siblings.

"Yes" She answered. Shocking Jaune for he had thought Ilos was joking.

Yamamoto still standing there raised an impressive looking eyebrow towards her, in response all Violet could do was give him a pleading look as if to go along. Yamamoto after a silent and almost imperceptible sigh gave her a nod.

Jaune after getting over his shock, looked back with a bright but questioning smile and said, "Wow are you really my grandfather?"

"Yes" answered Yamamoto

"... how come mom never talked about you? Like where have you been?" Jaune asked and quickly regretted it as his mom spoke.

"Jaune!" she said in a strict tone, "That is a very rude question young man, and your grandpa just got here after a long journey so he's very tired."

"But-" Jaune tried to argue

"No buts young man, I want you to leave the questions for tomorrow after he's rested well ok?" she said giving herself and Yamamoto time to come up with some kind of cover story.

"Ok" answered the young man cowed for now.

"Good, now head on home I'll meet you there, I have to talk to Ilos first."

"Fine" as he went to the door he turned to look at Yamamoto and said, "Sorry about the questions... gramps" and then he left.

Violet sighed in relief, at least until Yamamoto turned to look at her with a raised eyebrow once again.

"I can explain"

*Yamamoto PoV*

"Well? I'm waiting" I said as I looked towards her.

"Haha... well you see... I didn't want Jaune to know why I ended up here." she said a little bit more quietly.

"I see, but that doesn't explain why I am suddenly a grandfather" Yamamoto said fishing for more info.

"I want to repay you" she said, "For helping me when I was at a very... vulnerable time."

"All I did was merely hold you, child, it's not something that needs to be repaid"

"No, it does need to be repaid." she quickly replied, "that is a wound I've carried with me for years, and today for the first time in a long time I feel lighter, you did more than just hold me you helped me heal."

"Even then I would not ask for payment" he countered

"and yet I would still seek to repay you, because as my husband used to say an Arc never forgets those who helped them" she said firmly with a hidden steel behind her eyes.

'Shes not going to budge on this' Yamamoto silently noted in his mind

With a sigh he asked, "very well, but how I must ask does being named grandfather to the young Arc repay me"

"You're going to live with us!" she said with a bright smile as if nothing was wrong with that statement.

'Huh? is- is she serious??' Yamamoto thought to himself, as he could not comprehend how much a naive sprout had made it even this far in life.

"No" he answered firmly.

"Yes" She answered petulantly crossing her arms.

"No, this is a terrible idea" Yamamoto negated once more.

"Actually it's a great idea, I know you don't live anywhere seeing as you said you're a wanderer, but you don't have even a single lien to your name or even a scroll." she said, "So by being the grandfather I can host you at our house without too many of my kids asking too many questions"

Yamamoto sighed as he mulled over things, he didn't know what lien was and he's pretty sure the scrolls he knows are different from what shes speaking of, but most importantly.

He looked at the blue box that had been invading his line of sight the whole time that boy was in the room

[Objective Located]

That boy was who he was looking for. Honestly that just made things much more complicated, he had honestly been planning to grab this Jaune Arc and disappear for a few years to train him. Eventually he would return him from his... surprise apprenticeship and be on his way to the next world. He hadn't thought Jaune Arc to be a literal seedling, actually younger than that Kurosaki brat. Needless to say that plan was scrapped.

This offer Violet was giving could solve his issues. Something about the timing of everything seemed off to him and his wisdom and experience told him this situation had gone too smoothly. Was this an orchestrated encounter? Did his system have that much influence over the world he was in? was it Yhwach? or was it all mere coincidence? Yamamoto did not know and that made him alert.

He would never find out that it was bad planning and poor writing that led him here.

"Yamamoto."

Violet calling his name broke him from his thoughts, "please, at least stay a few nights before setting off again" she said pleadingly

"...very well" He said, all while thinking, 'I've truly grown soft to let myself be swayed by these sprouts'

"Yes!" said Violet in a cheerful tone.

She got up from the bed she was sitting upon and started to make her way towards the door.

"Wait, we still have not come up with a singular story to tell" Yamamoto halted her

"Oh that's easy, we'll just say that when I was younger my village was attacked by grimm. You went to defend the village and didn't come back, eventually grim breached the village and we all had to evacuate to different places. You're going to say you came back to a destroyed village and assumed the worst not having heard the news of survivors and then spent years wandering the lands." she said nonchalantly

"and of your mother?" Yamamoto asked with a brow raised in disbelief at the story

"died while giving birth to me" she answered uncaring of how callous the words sounded.

"... my condolences" he responded

"huh? ohhh no no no, don't worry about it. I'm actually an orphan. I was dropped off at the orphanage as a baby so never met my parents" she waved him off

Yamamoto didn't know how to respond, so he just asked, "Do your children not know you were raised in the orphanage?"

"They do, but they don't have an exact age, so I could add that I went to the orphanage after my village was destroyed"

"Will they not ask why you hadn't told them before?" Yamamoto asked sensing another hole in the story

"I'll just tell them I didn't think they were mature enough to learn, and am only telling them now because you're back" she answered

"... alright" Yamamoto relented.

"Nice, now let's go, I'm already late and those Arc style meatballs aren't going to make themselves." and this she stepped out of the room.

Yamamoto followed.

As they made their way through the shop they encountered Ilos who was cleaning around.

"Finally awake? Thought I'd have to carry you to your house!" Joked Ilos

"Sorry, your shop is just so droll I simply fell asleep!" Violet sent a barb back

gasp* "How dare you, you take that back right now!" Ilos said in faux anger

"Never!" Violet shouted

"Well I guess you don't want these back then" Ilos said as she walked over to her counter and pulled out a shopping bag and a weird metal looking device.

"My scroll! That's why I didn't hear it ring! Give it back." demands Violet

"No, apologize to my clothing first."

"ugh, fine" Violet turned towards a bulk of clothes and said "I'm sorry I called you droll"

"Nice, here ya go!" Ilos said as she tossed over the metal item and the bag.

And once again they were on their way out. Yamamoto noticed how they avoided talking about the incident earlier that day. Maybe they trusted each other well enough that they knew if something needed to be said it, would be said at some point, even if it wasn't on the same day.

Right before they exited the shop, Violet stopped and looked at Ilos and said in a subdued tone, "Ilos, thank you."

In a similar manner Ilos responded almost equally as gently, "Anytime, just make sure you remember, I'm here anytime"

With a nod Violet was on her way, and Yamamoto trailed right behind.

He wasn't looking forward to meeting his 7 grandkids

After a while they made it to her home. It was one outside the walls of the small town and on top of a hill, Yamamoto is pretty sure he saw it back when he was scouting the town.

As Violet walked up to the house, the front door opened. 7 Curious faces looked upon her and Yamamoto. Some weary, some happy, some trying to hide.

"Hey darlings, I have someone I want to introduce you to" spoke Violet in a happy tone

"This" as she pointed towards him, "Is your grandfather!"

Disbelief spread through all their faces, and only Jaune looked smug as he gave them a quiet "I told you"

"Now I'm sure you have a lot of questions, but it's already getting really late and I haven't even made dinner yet." she said as she walked forward herding everyone away from the door.

"Also your grandpa is very tired, so today we'll eat, sleep and get up bright and early for questions." she finished with a smile, "Okay?"

"Kay" x7

Yamamoto stepped in after her.

The house was pretty large, he guessed it would have to be with 9 people living in it. The living room was very spacious and had different sofas facing different screens. The door to the kitchen was on his right and straight in front of where he came in from was a dining room, the dining room led to a backyard from what he could see. On his left attached to the wall were some stairs leading up and he could see many rooms.

"You can sit right here for now while I prepare the food." she said as she led him to a couch. "I'll call everyone over once it's ready."

As Yamamoto sat down, he stared at the screen that already had a few images playing on it. This one was for entertainment and not data, a television or TV if Yamamoto recalled correctly. He wasn't up to date with the technology of the human world, but he also wasn't completely ignorant of it. He just hadn't had a point to look into their new technology advances, nothing that they did could truly affect how things worked in the soul society. Actually it was somewhat curious that he's completely in a different world and yet the humans still found a way to make TV's how curious.

"So you're our grandpa?" a voice asked from his left breaking him out of his musings

He looked towards the person sitting on a different couch, it was a girl seemingly older than the rest of her siblings, and she was looking upon him with caution possibly even suspicion.

'smart' he thought, before deciding to answer, "Yes, it appears to be so"

"I see" she said, she may have been expecting him to answer more, but Yamamoto felt no need, and so he turned his attention back to the TV even as she continued staring at him. He knew that even as the siblings meandered about either doing their own thing or playing with one another, their eyes were on him. Had he not been who he was and instead some other random person found themselves in his position they may have felt awkward, or even intimidated, but it was Yamamoto and he did not care. In fact he almost found it amusing how these seedlings were trying to, even if not on purpose, intimidate him.

Regardless he focuses back on the TV, while it mostly had useless information it did allow him to gleam some very much needed information. For example he realized the gleaming metal objects were much like the phones of the humans in his world, albeit much more advanced. He also learned that something called dust is sold, and saw many ads for either dust itself or dust related products, this meant that this 'dust' was some type of power source of some kind. Finally the most important piece of information he learned is about hunters, some type of propaganda popped up making them look like shining beacons to the people, fighting off what he now knows are Grimm. He was still lacking in information, but what he had already gleaned was extremely valuable to him.

"Dinners ready!" shouted a voice from the kitchen. "It's Arc style meatballs tonight!"

As if a bomb had gone off all 7 siblings sprinted towards the dining room. Yamamoto got up calmly and made his way over to the kitchen. Pushing the door open he saw Violet there and asked.

"Do you require assistance?" while he couldn't help with the cooking, setting up and carrying things was absolutely within his power.

"Oh sure, just grab that big pot and set it down on the table" Violet said as she pointed at a massive pot on the counter before turning back to the stove, not realizing the man she gave the task was missing an arm. Luckily for her that man was Yamamoto.

"Very well" Yamamoto acquiesced, and so he grabbed the edge of the pot and lifted, the material was sturdy so Yamamoto didn't have to worry about it tearing as he held the pot with two fingers on the edge.

With the pot secured he began to make his way over to the dining room, and as he entered it he saw all 7 siblings looking excited, before they looked at him and that changed from excitement to awe as they saw him put the big pot of food in the middle of the table with only two fingers.

"How are you doing that?" asked Jaune

'damn, was that really a feat much too far above human capabilities?' Yamamoto questioned himself, he did not know. He wasn't anywhere near familiar with how much weight regular humans could lift and so he tried a surefire method of getting away with things.

He stayed silent.

'These seedlings have potential, to know such a powerful political move at such an early age' thought Yamamoto, he had used it many times against nobles and central 46, he was very fond of it.

'why is he silent? This is so awkward' and similar thoughts were the only things passing through the siblings minds.

The silence was quickly broken by Violet as she entered the dining room with side dishes.

"I hope you're hungry, because dinner is served!" she said with a smile not realizing the mood of the room before she entered.

With a flurry of activity all 7 siblings reached towards the pot, and Yamamoto felt that he'd seen battlefields less bloody than this. Siblings they were no longer, now only warriors stood trying to push one another out the way, the young were the first to fall not having the strength to push back against the others. The middle children were putting up a formidable fight against the two eldest, trying to overwhelm them with their numbers. In the background of all this the youngest two who had been the first to fall, were actually sneaking off with servings on their plates as the middle and eldest children fought.

'what cunning' thought Yamamoto, 'and fierceness' he added in as he side stepped one of the middle children being thrown through the air by the two eldest.

"hey" and suddenly everyone froze, as they turned to look upon Violet who had a smile that was a tad too sweet to mean anything good for them.

"I certainly hope you're not being rude in front of our guest. I would certainly hate it if I had to punish you for that, right darlings?" said Violet with that sickly sweet smile still on her face

The siblings paled and scrambled to get back to their seats, they were very quick about it too. In less than a minute it had gone from a complete frenzy to perfectly seated and organized children.

"Good" said Violet dropping that sinister smile, and then she began to serve the food before sitting down.

Violet looked towards him and said, "Yamamoto I have an extra chair for you here between Jaune and myself, your plate is ready too".

With a nod Yamamoto went to sit down. He wondered if all humans were so lively. He did hear from his captains that they heard from the Kurosaki brat that he always had to dodge his father's attacks. Maybe this was normal for humans.

After he was seated Violet said "Alright everyone let's dig in" and dig in they did, acting as though they hadn't eaten in months.

As Yamamoto ate a scoop of his food he realized why the siblings had acted in such a way. The food was positively delicious, if he were of lesser control he would agree that it was worth fighting over and teach the brats that the world just isn't fair, but 3,000 years of life gave him the temperance he needed to stay his hand. Thus dinner passed with everyone enjoying their food, and quickly they were all off to bed.

Violet showed Yamamoto to the guest room in the house, and as Yamamoto lay down upon the comfort of his room he felt like it had been too long of a day. He hadn't had time to think deeply over everything that happened.

'I hope Shunsui and Ukitake are doing well' He thought of his two students. He would never admit it, but they were like his family.

As weariness of the mind closed in on him, he closed his eyes and let himself rest. For tomorrow he had to begin the training of the young Arc.

(AN: Broski, I am not building 6 other unique and specific characters, there will be 2 younger siblings , 3 middle children, and 2 elder sisters. I'm not confident in writing such a character dynamic with them having to constantly interact with our main characters, so they will be banished to the background. Not worse than what RWBY did by basically un-existing them, but they shall remain that way until I have need for them. Jaune is 15 currently.)

(AN2:Btw leave me some constructive criticism fr fr, like I don't know what I'm doing lmao)
