First Mission

Dane sighed, taking a sip of his wine, Vanessa draining her own glass at his side. "So, back to a hundred one stars behind the Golden Dawn, huh?"

"Yup," Vanessa nodded. "Sounds like that Yuno kid with the four-leaf clover did pretty well on his first mission. I mean, it didn't sound as hard as what Asta and Noelle faced for their first mission, but still. And they got a star, too. You're actually the only person who hasn't gone on one, yet."

"That's because when they got sent on their mission, it was supposed to be a menial chore, and I was busy nursing you through your hangover," Dane said.

Vanessa grinned. "That's true. You're such a gentleman."

Dane rolled his eyes.

"So, any ladies catch your eye yet?" Vanessa asked. "Besides me, I mean."

"Presumptuous," Dane said, draining his wine glass and refilling it. "And no. No one's caught my eye."

"Shame," Vanessa said. "I can keep you company tonight, if you start to feel lonely about it."

"I'll be fine," Dane said flatly.

"There you are," Yami said, walking into the room. "Why aren't you two in the common room with the others?"

"I dislike people," Dane said.

"Well, you better get used to it," Yami said. "I just told the others, a new dungeon's popped up. You're going with Asta, Noel, and Luck."

"A dungeon, huh?" Dane asked, then sighed, draining his glass and standing. "Alright. I'll grab my Grimoire."

"Why?" Yami asked. "You don't use it."

Dane shrugged. "Better to have it and not need it, right?"

"How would you know?" Yami asked. "Luck said you've never even bothered to open it."

"First time for everything," Dane shrugged. "Probably going to be a first time for that, too, eventually."

He looked to his right just as his wolf spirit trotted into the room with his Grimoire. "Thanks Ko." He scratched the wolf's head for a moment before letting it fade. "Alright. I'm ready."

Yami huffed. "Finral."

Finral, the playboy member of the Black Bull squad, extended a hand, forming a portal for Dane, and Dane walked through calmly, finding the others waiting.

"Hey, there you are!" Luck grinned.

"Sorry I'm late," Dane apologized. "How far are we?"

"Not sure," Luck shrugged.

"We're saved," Noelle, a royal and sister of the Silver Eagles squad captain, who had almost no control over her magic, said sarcastically. "The most antisocial person on the planet has joined us."

"Hey, he may not like people, but he's crazy strong!" Asta assured her.

"Right," Noelle snorted derisively. "Let's just go."

Luck nodded, leading them toward where the dungeon was supposed to be, explaining to Dane that this particular dungeon was on the border of the Diamond Kingdom, and that of the four of them, Asta had been requested personally by the Wizard King. Dane rolled his eyes, only to stop as they climbed over a tree and saw the dungeon. It was a collapsing castle partially buried in the ground.

"Creepy, structurally questionable, liable to collapse on top of us," Dane noted. "I like it."

"Right!?" Luck grinned. "It's awesome!"

Luck charged into it like an excited child, Dane and the others walking after him at a more normal pace. However, not fifty feet into the dungeon's entrance tunnel, Noelle tripped into Asta, who she'd been clinging to, and caused him to fall and shatter their only lantern. They then spent the next few minutes bickering about it, until Luck found the entryway into the dungeon, a glowing brick in the wall. He pushed it out, and the wall collapsed, revealing a massive room with water flowing along the floor, walls, and ceiling, staircases extending at odd angles and oriented as though the person in the room would be walking on the walls and upside down, and with doorways, windows, and passages covering every surface.

"Oh for fuck's sake," Dane groaned. "It's an impossible maze? Seriously?"

"Don't forget the deadly traps!" Luck grinned just as Asta tripped, his hand activating one such trap, which caused a wave of stone spikes to burst from the ground, only for Asta to slash it.

"Good reaction time," Dane commended, only to sigh as Luck pushed Asta into another trap, forcing Asta to once again slash it with his Anti-Magic sword, negating it.

Luck then spent a few more minutes laughing and jumping around, activating a handful more traps ranging from flames, to water, to more spikes. "Oh, I could play in here forever!"

"Luck, you're a freak," Dane said, looking around. "We should split up. I'm going this way."

"No, wait!" Noelle shouted, only for Dane to ignore her, dropping into a hallway on the floor.

However, as soon as he was inside, his gravity shifted toward the floor of the hallway, and he flipped, landing on his feet and skidding a couple feet from his momentum before continuing to walk. As he did, his impulses, which had begun to roar at him to finish what he'd started with Luck, slowly quieted themselves until he could focus. And no sooner had he done that, did a trap form a huge, stone golem before him. However, he shifted his foot forward, and a section of the floor came alive, forming into a huge, stone beast and tackling the golem, smashing it against the floor and crushing its head with its jaws before crumbling. Dane walked along in silence, following a straight hallway for a ways before reaching a room identical to the last, but with the difference of lacking Asta and the others. He dropped into it from where his hallway opened into the wall, and dropped to what seemed to be the floor. And just as he did, a massive swarm of vines burst from the ground, writhing around and swiping at him, only for him to tap his heel, a stone sword sprouting from the ground to his waiting hand before he slashed, severing the vines. A huge, purple flower like a venus flytrap appeared, opening and revealing a slit at its center, like a throat, filled with a boiling, violet, acidic poison with several unfortunate victims bones floating inside of it. However, before it could attack him, Dane dropped, placing a hand to the ground and sending a dozen stone spike bursting from the ground and impaling the enormous flower, killing it instantly and allowing its acid to drain out of it.

"I love this place," Dane grinned, then frowned as something sent a chill up his spine. "Well, well. Company already. And here I was thinking I'd have some privacy."

"Sorry to disappoint you," a voice said as several men in black and white, hooded robes stepped into view. "We have orders to make sure no one leaves here alive."

"Orders, huh?" Dane asked. "So, I guess that makes you nothing but underlings. Rank-and-file fodder. How disgusting."

"Don't look down on us!" one of the men snarled. "Die!"

All of their Grimoires snapped open, but as a flurry of swords, flame, wind, and lightning blasts flashed toward him, he turned his foot sharply, forming a dome around himself to block the strikes.

"So fast!" one of them gasped as the smoke cleared, revealing the intact dome.

"No way!" another said. "We didn't even scratch it?"

"Are you kidding?" Dane asked from behind him. "With attacks that laughable? No wonder the Diamond Kingdom's never managed to take any of the Clover Kingdom's territory."

He drove a stone knife into the man's back, puncturing his heart, then shoved him into the path of a barrage of blades from one of the others. Then, he knelt, slamming his hands to the ground and sending a wave of stone spears out from the ground around him, slaughtering all of the others in an instant. He stood, looking around as the stone spears, blood, Grimoires, and corpses all sank into the floor before it solidified again.

"Pathetic," he grumbled. "Not even a warmup."

He turned, continuing into the dungeon at a walk. However, after a few minutes, he took a water slide and dropped out into the heart of the dungeon, landing in front of a massive, blue and white door. To his right, a red-haired girl from the Golden Dawn squad was lying in a sort of cage formed of vines with a bed of cherry blossom petals. To his left, Yuno and a more senior member of the Golden Dawn squad, both of whom looked to have been taking a beating were glaring at someone behind Dane. He turned, staring at the man approaching them, who wore a white uniform, a grey, fur cape, and had three crystals aligned vertically on his forehead, then at the white crystals in a trail leading from a walkway the man had formed to just shy of the girl, the crystals nearest the end bloodied. Beside him hovered a Grimoire with an orange cover that had chunks missing and replaced by the same white crystals, and above him hovered a massive, crystal sword, but it broke apart and vanished before Dane could get a good look at it.

"Oh, crystals," Dane said, feeling his impulses stir. "This should be more fun. Hey, Golden Dawn senior. Since Luck isn't here, what's the rule about killing Diamond Kingdom higher ups? Good or bad?"

"Killing?" the man scoffed. "Such arrogance! The entire Black Bull squad is nothing but arrogant fools!"

"I'm going to go ahead and take that as a yes," Dane grinned, bending his knees slightly in preparation. "I hope you give me more of a challenge than those filthy vermin that I met earlier."

"Oh, so you killed them, did you?" the man before him asked. "Allow me to repay you, then. You are merely pebbles destined to fall by the wayside."

Crystals suddenly bristled from the ground ahead of him, erupting toward the girl in the cage. However, before they could reach her, Dane slammed a hand into the ground, a wave of stone racing out to the side before flowing upward from it, paling into a shiny, silver metal in the blink of an eye. When the crystals met it, it dented, but the crystals shattered.

"Sorry, but crystals are more brittle than metal," Dane said.

"Interesting," the man mused. "I'll kill you first, then."

More crystals erupted from the ground in a trail heading for Dane, but he smirked, breaking into a charge. On his third step, a trail of enormous, dark, metal spikes burst from the ground, shattering the crystals and halting their advance before Dane laughed coldly, reaching down and brushing his hand along the ground, a massive, stone spike racing from the ground and stabbing at the man. Crystals surged from the ground, smashing the spike, only for Dane's hand to meet one of the crystals. It flowed into motion instantly, forming a spiraling drill and shot forward on an extending shaft, smashing through the crystals the man had defended himself with, only for the man to evade it, though narrowly.

"I see," the man mused. "You can control even my crystals. You're dangerous."

Dane chuckled darkly. "Oh, you're gonna be fun. You guys go ahead and grab the goods. This guy's mine."

"You're insane!" Yuno called out. "He's too strong! He held his own against us both without even using a Grimoire!"

"I know," Dane grinned horribly. "He's like me."

Yuno hesitated, then nodded, he and his superior grabbing the cage their friend was in and pulling it with them into the treasure vault. As they did, Dane kicked the ground, sending a wave of stone spikes at his opponent, only for him to block them with a wall of crystals. However, as he did, Dane charged. A wave of crystals rushed out to meet Dane, but he dropped low, swiping his hand along the ground and sending a wall of steel up to block the crystals. Then, the jumped, flipping over the top and spinning horizontally to the ground. His fingertips brushed the top of the steel wall, and it rushed to follow his command, racing over him and transforming into a massive, steel spear, which flashed down at Dane's prey, smashing through a wall of crystals, only to narrowly miss his opponent. However, just as Dane landed, crystals burst up around his hands and feet.

"Now block this!" his opponent snarled.

"Okay," Dane grinned, a steel wall once again blocking the crystals surging toward him before the crystals around Dane surged out to the sides into a flood of spears that stabbed at his opponent from the sides.

However, aside from a shallow graze on one shoulder, the strike still missed. Dane grinned wickedly as his opponent growled in frustration.

"You're a monster," his opponent snarled. "More akin to a beast than a man."

"Oh, you want to see beasts?" Dane asked. "Sure. I'll show you beasts."

He slammed his hands into the ground, and the floor around him came alive, surging forward as it rose, transforming itself into dozens of animated, stone beasts similar to that which he'd killed one of the bandits with the last time he'd met them. Dane's opponent snarled, crystals bursting from the ground rapidly, slaughtering the beasts, only for Dane to leap over him, thrusting a spear down at him. The man dodged to the side, the spear grazing his cheek, and when crystals surged up to meet Dane on his descent, Dane laughed. As he met the crystals, they flowed according to his will, swelling like a water balloon before bursting into a flood of crystal spikes and fists. For a moment, his opponent was able to dodge everything before a fist connected with his fist, hurling him. He bounced once before flipping, pushing off of the side of a spike to avoid a stab, then landed on his feet, crystals bursting up to defend him from the remainder of the attack. Dane growled excitedly, grinning widely.

"What's your name?" Dane asked.

"I am Mars," his opponent identified himself at last, glancing for a brief second at the door into the treasure vault, which had ended up to his left and Dane's right, but then returned his gaze to Dane.

"Mars," Dane drawled, his grin growing as a hungry, excited light shone from his eyes. "I like it. I've never been pushed like this in my fights, Mars. I like it." He stood, extending a hand. "Looks like I'll have to try something new to beat you."

"New?" Mars asked.

"Yeah," Dane nodded. "Do you know how my magic works? I first break things down to a molecular level, then force the molecules back together according to my will. And I can do that to anything I make physical contact with. Like the air, for example."

He flexed his hand, and a wave of invisible destruction passed between them. A strike invisible to the eye, faster than a blink, akin to the concussion of an explosion. The blast slammed into Mars before he could react, shattering his nose and sending blood spraying from his mouth as he exploded backward into the wall behind him, cratering it. However, just as he did, Dane closed his hand into a fist and ripped it backward, the air blurring as it contorted and writhed between them, the distortion racing toward Mars. On pure instinct, crystals erupted from the wall to Mars's left, both creating a shield and hurling him away from the distortion just before the vacuum Dane had created ripped the crystals and wall apart, dragging them into the distortion where they found even more vacuums, being ripped apart. However, even as they did, Dane had turned after Mars and shoved both hands forward. Just as he did, however, Mars's Grimoire snapped open again, shining with a bright, white light. In the blink of an eye, a massive construct of crystals like a, very vaguely, humanoid body formed below his shoulders, the twin blasts of ripped apart air exploding into it but doing nothing but cracking it, and the vacuum left in their wake doing even less. The cracks sealed, and Dane laughed excitedly.

"Oh, now this is fun!" Dane grinned, eyes wide with a crazed, hungry excitement.

"You can't make a mark on my Heavy Armored Titan," Mars informed him.

"We'll see," Dane grinned, readying himself. "Let's go!"

He dropped, slamming his hands into the ground, and the floor around him was ripped asunder, stitching itself back together into enormous steel spears, which shot across the gap toward Mars, slamming into him like a hard rain, rapidly cracking the construct.

"I've noticed something about your magic," Mars stated as his construct's ability to regenerate warred against Dane's onslaught. "You can freely manipulate anything you touch, but only in the quantities you already possess. In order to make spears from the ground, you have to scrape layers from the ground."

"So?" Dane asked, sending more and more spears.

"So, these are pretty large spears," Mars said as one life-size to his construct smashed through a shoulder entirely. "You're nearly out of ground."

Dane snarled in annoyance, stopping his assault and standing, watching as the construct instantly restored itself. "Good catch. So, then. Let's try something else, shall we?"

He took off at a sprint, and as he did, he began to swipe his hand through the air. Instantly, a string of concussive waves of destruction began to explode into the massive construct, Mars instantly narrowing his eyes and grunting in effort. Then, finally, his Grimoire shone and a truly enormous sword formed, the blade double-edged and with a pair of curved prongs on the end that reminded Dane of a whale's tail. The sword slashed, spreading destruction around the entire room, and exploded into Dane, sending him crashing into the wall and forming a deep crater. After a moment, however, Dane laughed, pushing himself up as his skin's diamond reinforcements sparkled in the light.

"Not bad," Dane grinned. "Let's try that again, shall we?"

Then, he was off, stone flowing before him with every step, forming him a pathway to run on as he rapidly ripped the air apart over and over, sending a constant stream of destructive blasts into Mars. Finally, the construct protecting Mars exploded just as Mars' sword swung again. Once again, Dane formed his flesh into diamond to protect himself, withstanding the blow, but this time, as he emerged from the hole he'd formed, there was a small army of crystal clones charging him along an intricate maze of crystal pathways Mars had formed. Dane laughed, charging into the battle and sending crystal spikes at the clones from any pathways he could make contact with. Except, the clones were stronger and denser. The crystal spears all shattered on contact with them, the clones being thrown but not damaged. Dane narrowed his eyes, focusing and stopping, placing his hands on two crystal pathways to either side of him. Instantly, dozens of crystal spears burst from the pathways, eating away at them entirely as they shifted from Mars' crystals into diamond, only to once again fail to damage the clones, though this time they didn't break.

"Enough," Mars said, suddenly behind Dane.

Dane began to spin, only for the end of Mars' sword to explode into him directly as it formed in the air before Mars. Dane exploded into the wall hard, groaning, then began to push himself up. He let out a tired chuckle, but as his murderous instincts roared in rage at being denied, at being beaten, the laugh rapidly grew more and more unhinged. Dane staggered out of the crater he'd formed just as his Grimoire floated up beside him, shimmering excitedly with a golden light.

"First time for everything, right Captain?" Dane asked as the Grimoire fell open.

Instantly, a sea of bloodlust and danger crashed down on Mars, who instantly sent his sword streaking toward Dane. However, before it could reach him, Dane laughed, his right arm brushing the wall and coming away with a massive, gleaming, pure-white, metal sword with a handle long enough for both hands but a fairly basic yet very wide blade. Then, the sword connected with the side of Mars's gigantic sword and deflected it to the side.

"What!?" Mars seethed. "Impossible!"

Suddenly, Yuno and his superior reappeared, only to watch as Dane swung his sword, the blade suddenly transforming into a massive string of blades attached to a set of cords. The whip sword's blade tore across the opposite wall of the room, narrowly missing Mars, then retracted to its original shape. Then, Dane swung his free hand forward and the air before him contorted. All of the crystal clones swarmed into the space between Dane and Mars, only for a bolt of lightning to flash from his hand and past all of the clones before striking Mars directly. Mars exploded into the wall behind him, but as the smoke cleared, he wore a breastplate, pauldrons, gauntlets, and grieves made of his crystals. He had been burned by the blast, but survived. However, Dane ignored that. Instead, he laughed cruelly, snapping his fingers. A thin stream of flames raced from his fingers to the center of the clones where it erupted into a massive explosion, obliterating the clones.

He cackled as he snapped his fingers over and over, Mars fleeing from a trail of massive explosions, using his arms to shield his head from the debris turned shrapnel the explosions were scattering through the air. His sword tore free of the wall, slashing at Dane, but Dane pivoted, ripping his sword free of the ground and slashed upward with all his might, deflecting the sword over himself again before using a pillar of the ground to launch himself away from the crater just as a second sword, this one smaller and with a curved, scimitar blade, exploded into the wall. A second and third both flashed toward Dane, but he slashed them both aside, snapping his fingers and sending another trail of flames at Mars, who evaded the explosion by inches. Dane dropped, slamming his hand into the ground, and a massive flood of gleaming white fist erupted from the ground around him, racing across the room at Mars.

Mars roared in effort, reforming his Heavy Armored Titan, only for the fists to explode directly through it, one of the fists slamming into Mars directly and sending him exploding into the wall.

"How!?" Mars demanded.

"I compressed diamond into a metal," Dane answered simply. "It's no longer as brittle as diamond and is even harder now, making it virtually indestructible."

He slammed his palm into the wall behind him, and a trio of gleaming, white dragons burst from the wall, two coiling around the sword as the other opened its mouth, then snapped it closed, a cloud of sparks bursting from its jaws before each spark became a trail of flames, blanketing the side of the room Mars occupied in explosions. This time, Mars was protected by a massive formation of crystals by way of quantity just as his sword crumbled, a new one forming. Then, as Mars' massive sword swept around again, Asta arrived, slashing the sword and severing the blade, which exploded into the wall off to the side, the remaining half finishing its slash harmlessly.

"Wow, Dane!" Asta breathed. "You're so strong!"

"Thank you," Dane smiled. "Now get out of my way."

"What?" Asta asked.

"He's mine!" Dane snarled, charging past Asta.

However, just as he did, Mars lost patience. Three swords formed, sweeping around at Dane from each side, forcing him to form a cocoon of his newly created diamond metal around himself, only to be sent exploding into the wall again. He shifted the metal into a suit of armor, not unlike Mars's own, but before he could do anything else, Luck exploded into him, slamming a kick into his gut and sending him exploding into the wall.

"Control yourself, Dane," Luck ordered. "You're slipping."

Dane narrowed his eyes, then took a long, slow breath, forcing his impulses under control as his Grimoire closed and floated back to the pouch he carried it in. He nodded once, lifting his sword from where it had landed beside him. Just as he did, a clone charged at the Golden Dawn senior, only for Luck to explode across the room, slamming a kick into it and smashing its neck, the clone's head bouncing away. The Golden Dawn senior clutched at his head, seeming to be having a mental breakdown.

"What's wrong, Golden Dawn?" Dane asked. "Not happy about being rescued by the Black Bulls?"

"Everything about this is wrong!" the senior shouted.

"Klaus," Yuno said. "They may be Black Bulls, but Asta and Dane are among the strongest fighters I know. And I'm sure their senior is no different."

"He's not," Noelle said, just as she formed a massive dome of water around the girl in the cage, using a wand to help control her magic. "Luck is a freak of nature. He's the strongest one here."

"Arguable," Dane said. "But as I said, Mars is mine."

"Don't be so stubborn!" Asta snapped. "We'll fight him together! We'll fight to see who takes him down!"

"Idiot," Dane said. "You don't understand the situation. I've got him on the run." He snapped his fingers, sending a trail of flames at Mars, who swore, diving aside from the explosion.

"How!?" Mars demanded. "Your Grimoire's not even open!"

"So?" Dane asked. "Grimoires are just books of spells. If I know how the spell works, why should I need it? Sure, it makes the spells stronger, and I can't compress diamond into metal without it, but there's nothing that I need in it to beat you. Most of what I found in it was just a list of techniques."

Mars narrowed his eyes just as Asta charged. A small army of clones appeared, but just as they did, Asta slashed through one as Mars leapt into the air. He reformed his sword, slashing down at Asta, only for Asta to leap into the air, slashing through it.

"The battlefield is a place of power!" Mars snarled. "The weak exist only to be destroyed!"

"Go on, then!" Asta shouted as he charged along the back end of the massive sword. "Destroy me!"

"I fully intend to!" Mars shouted, forming crystals around Asta's feet.

Asta drove his sword down into them, freeing himself just as Dane reached the clones with Luck. Luck smashed several of them as Dane charged through the rest, brushing them all with his hands and collecting them before transforming them into an equal number of spears that hurtled up at Mars. Mars cursed, forming another sword to block them, only for the last to smash a hole in the sword. Then, Asta stepped off of the edge of the hole, reaching Mars and smashing his oversized sword into Mars, sending him exploding into the roof of the cavern. A split-second later, a dozen enormous, stone spears stabbed up into the cloud of dust at Mars, only to shatter a moment later. Mars flew at Asta, forming crystals into a clawed gauntlet, but Asta met his hand with his own sword, smashing it and Mars's armor and sending him bouncing across the room at Dane.

Dane smirked, lunging and slashing his own sword with both hands, smashing the intact back of Mars's armor, though failing to actually injure him, but hurling him at Yuno. Yuno swung a hand forward instantly, a massive blast of wind exploding into Mars before he could defend himself again, hurling him at Luck, who met him with a kick, sending him exploding into the wall. Then, just as Mars stood, a massive, diamond fist exploded into his side, sending him crashing along the wall and down into the water filling the floor of the room. The few remaining clones charged at them all, but Luck began to cackle excitedly, streaking around the room and smashing them all.

"Would you stop looking so horrified and accept it already?" Noelle snapped at Klaus. "Asta's strong in his own way. He has the ability to nullify magic."

"Nullify it?" Klaus gaped. "Truly? But a commoner like him is beneath a power like that. Perhaps he was just lucky to be endowed with such a skill."

"Yuno's a commoner, and yet he has a four-leaf clover Grimoire," Dane said.

"Yes, well..." Klaus trailed off.

"Was it luck or something else?" Noelle asked. "You can tell just by watching him."

"Well?" Asta shouted out at the water where Mars's Grimoire was hovering above the surface. "Come on! What, are you done already?"

A page turned in the Grimoire, and the ground began to shake, crystals growing from the water rapidly. Then, the water exploded, crystals surging toward Asta, only for him to slash them. Except, they began to regrow instantly. The crystals exploded into Asta, tearing at his flesh and hurling him backward. Behind the crystals, Mars rose from the water, once again in his Heavy Armored Titan.

"Asta!" Yuno shouted.

"Tell me, boy," Mars snarled. "What are you!?"

"Sure, I'll tell you," Asta said, beginning to push himself up. "I'm just a boy who was born without a single drop of magic power."

"What!?" Klaus gaped. "He has no magic at all? Then it was just luck that he's so-"

"And I'm still gonna be the Wizard King!" Asta snarled, raising his sword. "I'll fight and bleed all I have to, but I'll prove that I can do it!"

"This again?" Dane muttered, surveying the larger, spikier crystal formation. "Stronger this time, huh?" He glanced at his own sword, then sighed. "I'll have to break my own rule again, it seems. Fine, then. Ko."

Brilliant, teal flames danced along his sword instantly, and Dane shot forward. Mars Snarled in annoyance, swiping at him with the Titan's arm, only for the flames along Dane's sword to extend out, forming a much, much longer blade before he slashed. The arm shattered, crashing down off to the side, only to instantly regrow as the other swung around at Dane. He leapt backward, avoiding it, and slashed toward Mars. The Titan's arms cross, both shattering, but deflected the blade away from Mars.

"You annoying little pest!" Mars snarled, then gained a faraway look for a moment. "I...I live only to destroy!"

"That's why you live?" Asta snarled. "To destroy? Well the Wizard King lives to protect his kingdom and his people! I will never lose! Not to somebody like you!"

"You're in my way!" Mars snarled, raising the Titan's arm. "Begone, pebble!"

"Sure, I might be a pebble, but if so, I'm going to be the pebble that shatters the diamond!" Asta declared, launching himself forward.

Dane huffed, then shook his head charging behind Asta. Mars swung, but it was entirely too slow. Before he could reach Asta, Asta's sword smashed through the Titan and slammed into Mars's torso, launching him away. As Mars crashed to the ground, Dane stopped, setting a hand on the ground. A massive, serpentine, stone dragon shot forward, snatching Mars's Grimoire in its jaws and returning to Dane, delivering the book before retracting into the ground as Asta let out a yell of victory.
