Chapter 52

Double Trouble

Bella

The phone rang just as we were getting dressed.

We both looked at the display and looked into each other's eyes, grinning.

"Hi, Alice," I answered the call in my most innocent voice.

"How could you two do this to me!"

Although her mood wasn't the best at the moment, I had to grin.

"Al, you're calling late."

If she had a vision of all this, she could have warned us earlier.

"Last night, you changed your minds about what you wanted to do about a hundred times a minute, always deciding on the fly. What was I supposed to see there, please, before you said yes to each other? And this morning, having just seen him propose to you again - although I don't know why again - I saw that if I had called right away, I probably would have disturbed you during a certain activity ... But this is not about me. Why did you do this to me? You are like a sister to me and then something like this. Don't you love me at all?"

Emmett rolled his eyes at Alice's feigned self-pity.

"Alice, of course I love you! We didn't know ourselves how all this could happen. Apparently you know better what we did yesterday than we do ourselves. From ..."

But she already interrupted me.

"What do you mean?", she asked.

Hadn't she seen that we had forgotten everything?

"Well, Emmett had the glorious idea of drinking a little bit and then probably that was a little too much. Anyway, we don't remember what happened yesterday. We didn't realize it until we saw our rings. And that's why he proposed to me again, because we didn't remember everything from last night," I said.

Alice said "Ummph" and hung up the phone.

"So, I had the glorious idea of having a drink? And who almost begged me to go buy more alcohol last night at 'Vanity'?", Emmett asked.

I stuck my tongue out at him and turned around.

The room looked really bad. The tiles in the shower were broken as well as the mirror above the sink. In the living area, one of the couches was broken and the large wooden table had deep grooves that clearly looked like scratches from a tiger, but probably came from me. At least the window front had remained whole, but outside in the pool there were again small tiles from the edge that had now sunk to the bottom of the pool. There wasn't much left of our bed either. The wood frame was splintered, and the beautiful Italian linens had cracks. The plaster was crumbling off the partition between the bedroom and the living area and I could see a few noticeable dents.

"Too bad we don't remember how we did all this," Emmett whispered in my ear from behind.

If I were still human, I probably would have been scared to death and blushing. What would the cleaning people think when they came in here?

"Probably like this," I said, grabbing his arm and flinging him across the living room, where he crashed into the wooden table, smashing it in two.

In a second he was with me again and pinned me to a wall. He stroked my thigh and to my waist with one hand and held my hands above me on the wall with the other. He kissed my neck and cleavage and I melted.

"I think more like this," he murmured in my ear, then turned away to pack his things.

How nasty, first make hot and then just let me stand!

When we were down at the front desk and Emmett was checking out, I just wanted to get out of here as quickly as possible before they went into our room and discovered what we had done.

Emmett asked them to send us a bill for the room and then came to me. His jeep had already been driven in front of the hotel and our luggage was loaded.

"Don't worry about the room. We won more than enough money yesterday to destroy and pay for ten such rooms," he said, seeing my worried expression as we drove away.

I stared over at him.

I had no idea anymore how much money we had won in the casino in the first place.

"No, I'm not worried about that. So yeah ... still ... They'll probably never let us into their hotel again. But I was just thinking about Dad and Mom and the pack and Alice and the others. I mean, how they're going to react," I said.

Emmett laughed happily at me.

"You didn't worry about it so much last night," he said, laughing again.

I rolled my eyes.

"The way the room looked; I wasn't worried about anything last night."

He laughed out loud again and you could see his beautiful dimples.

I just had to laugh along.

"So ..." he began after half an hour of driving.

"So?", I asked when he didn't speak any further.

"You know Alice," he said, looking at me in that 'that says it all' way.

But unfortunately, that didn't tell me what he meant at all.

I raised an eyebrow and looked at him a little confused.

"Alice won't give up until she gets to arrange a wedding."

"Oh no!", I said, sinking into my seat. I knew Alice parties. I didn't even want to know how pompous a wedding at her place would be.

Emmett looked at me, played hurt.

"Does that mean you don't want to marry me after all?"

His puppy dog eyes were pitiful.

"I already married you," I said in a know-it-all manner. Even though I could no longer remember it.

"That doesn't count. First of all, neither of us can remember it. And secondly ..."

He shook his head and looked straight ahead at the roadway again.

"And secondly?", I asked curiously. What else was there?

Emmett exhaled humbly and continued speaking.

"And second, I'm still married to Rose," he said.

"Oh ...", I said, not knowing what else to say.

Even though I didn't want to, I felt a twinge in my heart. Jealousy? I didn't want to dwell on the subject and came back to Alice.

"That means you want to let Alice plan our wedding?", I asked.

He smiled at me.

"I like it when you say 'our wedding'," he admitted, taking my hand in his.

That's when I noticed he was no longer wearing his ring.

"Where is your ring?", I asked.

"I put the wedding rings in the bag. But don't worry. Alice will have the wedding up and running in no time, and I'll put your ring back on your finger. And then for good."

I liked the idea of wearing his ring on my finger forever. Then another thought came to me.

"Speaking of rings," I said, and he looked back at me.

"Don't you like them?"

"Yes, they are beautiful. But I was just wondering when you bought them. If we decided as spontaneously as Alice said, then I'm guessing you bought them at the church. But they look too expensive and classic for typical 'let's get married spontaneously in Las Vegas' rings," I explained, looking over at him.

He was silent and looked at the road.

"Em?"

He still didn't answer, and I got a quiet foreboding.

"When did you buy the rings?", I urged further.

He was silent for another minute until he realized I wasn't going to give up.

"The first time you said you loved me," he admitted, and I looked at him, startled.

"And these you had with you by accident?" I didn't want to go into the fact that I had already told him months ago that I loved him.

"No, not by accident. I've always had them with me," he admitted.

I couldn't help but lean over and hug him.

"Do you know that you are just incredibly cute?", I said and gave him a kiss on the cheek.

He rolled his eyes.

"Bells, men are not cute."

I leaned back in my seat, chuckling, and punched him in the arm.

"If you say so, my Emmy Bear," I said in a sweet voice.

He rolled his eyes.

Seven hours later, we arrived at the Cullens driveway.

Alice was already standing on the porch with her arms folded and a look that could only be described as pissed off.

When we got out, she dashed toward Emmett first and slammed her little fist into his face.

It seemed to hurt more than one would expect a small petite person like Alice to feel.

"Youuu ...!", she said angrily to him and came over to me, looking at me accusingly. "And youuu ...!", she said to me.

Okay. She was angry. At least my face was spared.

"Both of you!", she said as she looked back and forth between us. Her eyes were black. "How could you do this to me? To your beloved sister?!"

Suddenly, her gaze went blank.

Of course, I knew what she saw. We had agreed that we would not make a conscious decision to let her arrange the wedding until she was right in front of us.

We both laughed at each other and then Alice's look returned to normal, and she jumped around my neck.

"Yippiie ...!", she screamed and pranced with excitement.

I rolled my eyes.

I knew exactly how the wedding would turn out if Alice organized it. But I owed it to her.

"Esmé," she called out in a sugary sweet voice, and already Esmé was standing next to her, holding her hands in hers and dancing joyfully along with her.

"Yes, I heard! Let's start right away," Esmé said enthusiastically.

Little did I know that she was as wedding-crazy as Alice.

Esmé turned to us and looked at us as if she had forgotten we were still standing here. She flew toward us and hugged Emmett and me at the same time.

"Oh ... I'm so happy you're happy!", she said and scurried back into the house with Alice after showering us both with kisses.

"Double Trouble. There's no stopping those two," Emmett said with a laugh and pulled me inside to join the others.
